I loved the place. The people working there are really friendly. The person I dealt with was more than willing to help me find what I was looking for. I look forward to doing business with them quite often. I hoping to find A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley the next time I go there.I was asked if I disagree with 4.9 stars. I do disagree. They definitely 5 stars. *****
My husband and I love books and thought this would be an interesting place to visit while we were in town. We were not disappointed. We had no idea it was on so many levels. We spent over an hour there just investigating the shelves and admiring the old building. It was so fun to open the door and look into darkness then for the lights to come on and see all the shelves. It was paradise for us!
I feel like I was not the niche audience for this shop. The majority of books were published probably 1990s or earlier. They did had a lot of interesting older history books but very few current authors or books by women. If you like antiquarian stuff stop in, but if youre looking for recent reading material or authors currently popular probably not the shop for you.
Wife and I were staying downtown and hit up Ohio Book Store on a rainy Tuesday afternoon. It didn’t disappoint! Beyond blown away by the amount of books. We loved exploring the basement (staircase for this is located in the middle of the ground floor going down a metal staircase) behind some bookshelves and then exploring the much larger second and third floors (the door to these are on the “ smaller first floor” up the stairs that are on the ground floor back right… the door for the stairs to the second/third floors is located to the back left of the first floor. It is closed but not locked (don’t worry it’s the way you go and each floors lights are motion activated and will turn on once you enter). The sci-fi section was wonderful! Tons of old classics. Staff was wonderful. Can’t wait to come back!
I love Ohio Book Store. They have a fantastic collection of rare books that will blow your mind. Ohio book store is a gem located in Downtown Cincinnati. Do yourself a solid and check them out. If youre a book lover like me then you will get stars in your eyes when you walk in.
Absolutely loved the selection and location! The staff was helpful and the books were reasonably priced! I stopped in by chance while visiting the city and will definitely have to come back just for this bookstore!
They do an outstanding job restoring old books. Theyre reasonably priced and very professional.
Nostalgic. By far this is one of the Best Locally owned bookstores in Cincinnati. Inside there are Multiple floors with a mountain of books to choose from. This place is for Book lovers and the likes. Its wonderful seeing a bookstore of this caliber functioning fully, serving the community, preserving books, and history. The experience was lovely -loved it. Paid parking nearby. Parking rates begin around $5.
I had my regularly used(well worn) 10 year old Bible rebound here in genuine sheepskin. Could not be happier with the job they did!! Incredible quality and workmanship. Very friendly staff that were extremely helpful in making my choices on how I wanted my Bible rebound. Would highly recommend their work!!
If you love books youll love this bookstore. Row after row and floor after floor of books! Great prices and an endless variety of subjects.
Awesome 4 levels of books. Decently priced. Heaven.
Wish I had never walked in here... Cause now I am going to drain every penny I earn here.Staff was great, took the time to walk me around and answer questions on books in 3 different locations. Made me feel welcome and appreciated, which is a lost art these days.Last but not least, the most amazingly giant selection of books Ive ever seen. With 3 floors (and a balcony section) everything is laid out in a way that makes finding a particular interest easy. I could have spent hours on the 2nd floor in the history section.Ive found my new home for book buying...
One of my favorites hobbies is looking at old used books, especially ones about history and politics. I can hardly resist buying them when I go out. The Ohio Bookstore makes it impossible to step out empty handed. They have so many books to choose from on such a variety of topics. Their prices are comparable to other similar bookstores, some even being a little cheaper than average. I can easily spend a few hours browsing the aisles here. The men who run the place are also extremely friendly and I can tell they have a passion for what they do. If you love books like me, you should definitely go to the Ohio Bookstore.
Would love to see more comic books! Good selection of nice War books, Sci fi and Fantasy books here. Vintage atmosphere.
I love everything about this bookstore. The atmosphere is so nice I could stay for hours. Selection of books is great. I can find even the most esoteric book here.
I finally had the time to visit this bookstore and it did not disappoint! From the moment I walked in, I fell in love. From iconic classics to hidden gems, there is something for every book lover. One day was just not enough and I cannot wait to fill another day gazing at the all the amazing literature this place has to offer! Also, I must add how amazing the service was. They seen what types of books and authors I was reading and introduced me to others like it. If you haven’t been here, it’s a must visit!
Im retired recently, but worked close enough to spend entire lunch breaks in the store. The place is like a vacation to me. There are vintage books ànd periodicals of all types. I like to study the various prints hanging throughout.
An old-fashioned, fun environment to spend you day at. Has a very large selection of books of all kinds. Staff is helpful and friendly.
I could spend all day here and still not lool at everything 🥰definitely will bring my kids next time
So. Many. Books. Theres a basement, the main level and the second/third floor, all jam-packed with books and magazines of a variety of topics and genres and ages. If youre a bibliophile, plan to spend quite some time perusing the sections and shelves. They also offer bookbinding services, which are based in the basement.
Love this place! Always a great experience!
An incredible treasure hoard of knowledge with widely studied owners
Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff! Jim in the repair shop explained everything and gave me lots of options for rebinding a book.
The atmosphere is soothing and its quiet went in and got a $26.95 hardback book called medicine: A treasure of art and literature.
I could spend all day in this store. Its absolutely one of my new favorite bookstores of all time. Its well organized with a wide selection and great prices.
One of the BEST reasons to go downtown!!! I have shopped there since 1988 and I can always find a reason to go back!!!! Jim and his sons are always willing to be helpful. The building is cared for well and so are the books!!Shop soon!!!!
HUGE amount of books but its quantity over quality here.
The Ohio Bookstore is a must visit for Bibliophiles!
Books forever!!! This place has a little bit of everything! I spent an hour just in the basement looking at nature books. If i lived here Id visit weekly to see what i missed or what came in new. Love it!!
Such a great bookstore with an amazing selection. I could spend hours here browsing!
A wonderful treasure in downtown Cincinnati. A great selection and 3 floors of books.
Coolest bookstore Ive ever been in. The upper floors are a bibliophiles dream. Felt like another world.
A few months ago, I was looking for a bookstore or company that could bind my husbands masters thesis, and the Ohio Book Store knocked it out of the park! Their employees were extremely helpful over the phone, and when I brought in the thesis, they made the process of picking out the cover material and type font/color very easy! They were incredibly considerate when informing me about the overall price of things and how expensive certain things would be; while expense was not an issue for us since my husband and I both have good full-time jobs, I thought it was a very kind thing for the Ohio Book Store employees to do, as most people looking to get theses bound are newly graduated and often do not have a steady source of income yet. Overall, my husband and I were extremely pleased with the thesis binding and we would recommend the Ohio Book Store to anyone looking for thesis binding services!
Awesome store, helpful, great binding service.
This is one of the best bookstores you will visit. Ohio Book Store is a friendly family owned bookshop with affordable reads and a nice selection of neat antiquarian books, maps, and ephemera. Great selection of art books and regional history. You will learn something - and hopefully buy something! - when you visit this charming shop.
My one-star review was a mistake. I meant to favorite your store. I visited the Ohio Book Store and it did not disappoint. I only wish I had more time to wander through the stacks. I would highly recommend the store to book lovers.
I stopped in here while downtown. I love books, especially vintage sci-fi or fantasy paperbacks.Theres a basement area once you walk past the center, and down theres so much treasure its unbelievable. I had to stop myself from buying an entire shelf.
This store has an amazing selection of books and their bookbinding services are wonderful. Additionally, the customer service cannot be beat! A true treasure for Cincinnati and book lovers.
A great place to stop in and peruse the books and magazines. They have a large selection of Life magazines back to the 1930s. Ive bought several as gifts purchasing the appropriate magazine for the recipients date of birth. Ive also purchased several maps from an 1880s atlas and had them framed. Friendly service and fair prices. I always stop in when Im in town. Highly recommended.
A wonderful book shop! I found some treasures in that! It is all about searching and finding; because they have a huge collection and the chances of you finding the expected and unexpected is very high! Mike was super kind and helpful...
What a selection of books! Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Cant wait to return.
Got lost in the stacks for over two hours and never wanted to come out. They have so many books, its like going on an adventure. True book lovers will be in heaven. My suggestion? Leave others at home and spend some quality time exploring through this maze of knowledge.
Great selection of books. So many categories that theres something for everyone. Each of the four floors is packed with books and they have many bargains ($1 tables, $2 paperbacks). One could spend hours in here!
They did an outstanding job rebinding my favorite NKJV Bible.
The Ohio Book Store is a great asset to the City of Cincinnati. In addition to thousands of books, many of which are rare and collectible, they have a first rate bindery and repair service. The owners are knowledgable and very helpful. This is a bibliophiles paradise.
I visited the store for the first time yesterday-a friend recommended I stop by-and am so glad that I did. I love reading and I could have spent the entire day there. I definitely intend to go back-as there are five floors full of wonderful Gems.....
Not just a used bookstore, but a treasure chest of rare, old and unique books and magazines at decent prices. Be sure to explore the second and third floors for even greater bargains including a $1 table of books. Great selection of coffee table books for gifts, too.
An awesome experience for any book lover. Beautiful layout with impressive display cases for their rarest books. Owner was extremely helpful and exemplified the kindness I experienced while visiting Cincinnati
Fantastic bookstore with great character. 4 floors of books, many old and unique selections. The stores specialty is bookbinding. If youre looking to get lost in stacks of books this is your place.
My favorite bookstore. Honest bookseller. Incredible selection.
A great collection of books -- for bibliphiles. This bookshop is tucked away and doesnt seem to get much traffic which is a pity as it has 5 floors (from floor to ceiling) of books, books on every topic. You can spend hours here. Its far better than any other Cincinnati attraction
Amazing bookstore with a great selection including older antique books. You can easily spend hours in here perusing through all the historic material.
An interesting and analog option in an increasingly digital age. Make sure you head up to the second and third floors to see an increasingly eclectic collection.
The epitome of a vintage used bookstore! We spend hours there each time we go and find treasures every time! Thank you, Mike and Jim!
Interesting place to look around. Many books I would like to buy
I always walk pass, and look in the window, today I stopped in. I know I will be back. So many books. I only made it to the comics
Probably one of the greatest places on Earth! Run by a great staff!
Great place. Best book binding in town.
Wonderful family business with an excellent bookbinding service. Truly a gem in downtown Cincinnati.
Fantastic old school bookstore. Fabulous collection of Ohio and Cincinnati history.
Great bookstore - bring some time to dive into it! Loved the selection of old management books :)
A huge bookshop that requires quite a bit of time to properly explore, but for booklovers visiting Cincy this is a destination spot that must be seen!
Lovely bookstore, much larger than it seems from the outside, with a nice collection of books. Seems mainly Christian though as the religious section is 90% Christian related
Easy to get lost in here. So much to browse through.
Cool place to spend a lunch hour or two.
A wonderful place with rare finds!
Amazing, 3 story + wonderland of used books and friendly staff
Book fell on my foot and broke my toe. Might want to wear PPE gear when going here.
Floors of Old Books. Loosely organized at best, but thats part of the thrill of the treasure hunting.
Great store, great service.
Excellent store. Curdious staff.
