It was a decent experience, they work on a tab system and you get a card that you use to self pour beer (pay by the ounce), and order food from a kiosk style system. They also look to have an extensive bar you can order from.My pager didnt go off when my food was done, I had to ask someone about it. The food did taste alright and the beer was ok, though Im not really big on the taste of beer. The staff was really nice and will teach you their system if youve never been there before.
Nice atmosphere for a brewery. Dogs allowed and food is served. The self-pour setup is interesting and when I am literally watch my tab rise as I pour, I had much less desire to have more.I had a salad and my friend had a pizza, both were delicious. They have a full bar, sodas, beer, wine, sodas, and dog treats; what more do you need?!There was plenty of parking and the staff was very friendly. I plan to go back for sure.
If you haven’t tried Big Ash Brewing on the east side I’d highly recommend it. I’ve been there a couple times now and have always had great experiences. The food is solid, a lot of good options. Everything is fresh and flavorful. Their pizzas are personal flatbread types and a really tasty. They have several crust options. Lots of good bar food type offerings. Even good salads. It’s a brewery so there is beer! They have some solid offerings. And best of all is the pour system. You get a card and then pour your own beer. You’re charged by the oz, so if you want to try all of them you can do small glasses.
Nice brewery with a large outdoor patio area with a stage. They have a beer tap wall where you pour your own beers and are charged per ounce. Its nice because you can get small samplings to find what you like without paying a lot to do it. They also have food available for a reasonable price. Large parking lot with lots of free parking.
Big Ash is different from any other brewery I’ve been to. When you walk in, you have a staff member swipe your card which they attach to their own Big Ash gift card. All of their taps reside in the center of the building, and you pour your own beer after swiping your gift card which keeps a running total on how many pints you pour for yourself. Once you are ready to leave, you hand your gift card to the staff member at the front and they charge your credit card the amount you have consumed. The place is clean, and provides a free Coke fountain too.Check this place out!
This place is okay. I probably won’t go back. The food and drinks are decent but very expensive — especially considering the money they save by not having traditional servers. I would have gotten a lot more for my money elsewhere. It feels cool because of the novelty, and it’s the same idea as “serve yourself” frozen yogurt shops that popped up in the early 2010s. You’re paying more to serve yourself a glass of beer. The atmosphere is fun, so if you have a big group then maybe it’s worth it for the experience. The real reason I wouldn’t rate Big Ash better is that I live close by and I can hear their live music every single day of the week from my apartment. The idea is nice but it greatly disturbs the surrounding neighborhoods. It’s like having to listen to a concert in my living room every night. The band sounds fine but I hope to god that they’ll only play inside when summer is over.
Great place! Good food and a nice atmosphere. Dogs are allowed in outdoor seating places (huge outdoor seating area). Staff was unbelievably helpful and friendly! They even offered to help me get my food since I had my dig and she was not allowed to go inside with me to pick it up!!! Beer was good and the tap system was really cool to use!!
Self serve stations for beer dispensing that allows for you to combine various beers. Restrooms were clean and customer service to help you learn the process was great. Friendly staff! Nice outside seating with an area to support for live music. I cant comment on food because I didnt have it. Although, great selection of beers for any taste range. The New England IPA was great and better than average for our area. Ill try the food next time and update my review.
Stopped by in my travels. Interesting to have a pour your own beer by the ounce. We were able to sample quite a few beers that way. The coffee blonde is my absolute favorite. Got the flat bread pizza supreme and it was… supreme. Great way to drink beer, eat, and listen to music. Fun time
This is a COVID era review. Customers are required to wear masks, and staff is masked. Sanitation procedures are in place for pint glasses. Tables sanitized between customers. Dining area tables had partitions.Big Ash Brewing is a fantastic way to experience a variety of craft beers. There is is a huge parking area designated for outdoor dining, and a patio as well. When you enter, you give a credit/debit card and are issued a little plastic customer card. This card is then used to order your beer and food with. There is a wall of taps that are all self serve. There is a wide variety of beers, including stouts, ales, and IPAs. The alcohol content and bitterness levels for each are posted. Just insert your customer card and draw the amount you want into your pint glass. You are only charged for the amount you draw. This allows you to sample several beers if you like, or just draw the amount you want to drink. This is ingenious. You can take your customer card to the other side of the wall and place it on a pad with a display of menu items, choose the one you want, and take a pager. When the pager goes off, you get your food.Self. Serve. Heaven. There are plenty of people that are happy to offer help and answer questions. When you finish your quaff you return your glass, sanitize your hands, get a new glass, and reenter the wonderful world of craft beer. Its empowering, really, to control the type and amount of beer you want. The beers I sampled were quite good. The Barrel Aged Rileys Whistle was a dry Irish stout, my favorite. It was full bodied with notes of coffee and a strong, tangy finish. The Dreaming Cows Milk Stout, by comparison, was flatter and a tad sweet, but maybe thats just the difference in the kinds of stout. There is a bar that serves cocktails and a few bourbons. They had Jameson Triple Distilled Irish whiskey, but they were only leftovers from St. Patricks Day. I asked about scotches, and the bartender said there were none, but they were just getting the bar started and getting things sorted out. My companions enjoyed Irish Mules and Margaritas to rave reviews.I ordered Roasted Chicken Bites with a chili lime sauce to eat. The chicken bites were dry and chewy, and actually seemed old and made with a lot of dark meat. The lime chili sauce added no flavor at all. There is a surcharge for extra sauce, and it only comes with one tiny container, which was not really enough. The soft pretzel was large and came with a side container each of cheese and mustard. The pretzel managed to have a good boy of salt on it without an oil or grease to adhere it to the bread.Flatbread pizzas had a thin, chewy crust and generous toppings, heavy on the parmesan. The pepperoni was crispy and salty. There was low, pop radio music for a soundtrack, and for once lately it was not loud enough to intrude on the dinner conversation.I cant wait to share this place with my grown children, who are more enthusiastic and experienced partakers of craft beer. Theres classy looking tshirts and pint glasses for sale, so future birthday presents will be added to their respective collections.Go try Big Ash Brewing. Its wonderful.
The young girl at front desk trying walk me to the beer board then explained to me how the card work and then show us how to orders food...expitinal and beyond customer service ....thiswas the first time been here great food and great place. thank you!!(:
My husband and I ate at Big Ash last weekend. Will not go back. I would suggest they establish a dining area for parents with children. There were 11 very unruly children when we were there, yelling and running around. Yes it should have been the parents responsibility to control them, but they didnt. They had a car show and accessibility show that day, so there were people there with walkers and wheelchairs. Luckily no one was knocked over. We had a hard time to each other and the couple next to us. Our gadget to tell us our food was ready didnt work.
Awesome beer selection!! Great bands!!Check their website for details.Beers that are draft you pour yourself from a selection of taps...just buy a prepaid card for any dollar amount you want. You can also grab a bottled beer for cash.Check it out.Food is good also!!
What a great local place to support!! 👏 They have such a variety to match any taste, meal, or mood you might be experiencing. Now theyve added canned options in addition to the Growlers & Howlers. And cocktails to go! They provided fast & friendly curbside service: if you have health concerns, or if you are just exhausted at the end of a long day of work is and prefer to drink in your PJs. Its a win any way you slice it! My favorite pick is Dreaming Cows. 💚💚💚. Seriously. Try it!
Really cool self serve beers, ciders and wine. Didnt get to see any bands but great location . Will be back.
Nice outdoor seating options, tasty foods, pay-by-pour beer. Sometimes theres live music. Its a nice spot to relax with friends or socialize with strangers.
Big Ash is a great place. You pour your own drinks, so no worries about having to down 16 ounces of a beer you are skeptical of.they do a lot of community events, fundraisers, and give local bands a place to play. Also, they have a large projector with all the games on. Their pizza kitchen is awesome as well, and has some great specialty pizzas.
It is a really cool place, and to experience how they streamlined beer, liquor, and food sales is really interesting. All the food we had was phenomenal, fresh veggies and crunchy salads. Their cheese dip for the pretzels is bomb. Live music is always a Plus
Very cool. Friendly, clean, and great selection of unique brews to help yourself with. Delicious food, as well. Amazing pizzas and salads. Highly recommend.
The beer is fine, but the joint has been OVERTAKEN BY YELLOWJACKETS !!! Everywhere you turn, the YELLOWJACKETS are there! Last time I was there, the yellowjackets swallowed the management whole! BEWARE! turn around yElLoWjAcKeTs!¡!¡
Awesome beer, awesome staff. Didnt know it existed until recently, but was approached by multiple staff asking if I needed help. I came here to work a bit after hours- clearly a great spot!
Great place, loved the self fill pints and ordering system. Would highly recommend!
Great food! Tons of seats! Great beer, wine, and cider!
Good beers and ability to pour your own (and order/serve your own food). Plenty going on here with bands and trivia. Pizzas are on the smaller side, I easily ate one on my own.
Nice and clean cool live edge furniture interesting pour your own concept and live music.
Like how you can pour a small amount, the young lady at cashier was very nice and showed us how it worked
One of my new favorite places. Excellent selection of beers, with frequent live music. Self serve beer and order then pickup food, but the staff is incredibly helpful. And as far as covid protocols go, they dont get better than this. Indoor tables with dividers and an expansive outdoor beer garden. Strict mask policy and frequent hand sanitizer stations. Ive been to many a brewery but this was such a great and unique experience. Cant wait to come back.
Pizza very good! Loved being able to sample different beers without having to buy a whole glass.
The tap experience alone is worth 5 stars. I did not have the opportunity to try any of their food, but that tap set up is beautiful. Poor your own beers, get charged by the ounce. Drink a whole pint, or just sample a little of everything. I can not recommend this brewery enough.
Fun pay as you go set up and a great way to try new beers as they charged by the oz. Great beers and live music to experience!
Really liked the concept of getting a card and then being able to go up and pour your own drinks and try different beers at your leisure. Great atmosphere. Was there to see Tom and the Torpedoes and it is a great place to watch live music.
Big Ash Brewery provides a unique self service model to the brewing industry! When entering the location, you are prompted to check in and provide your payment option to the employee. They link your credit card to a card you will use for beer, drinks, and food at the facility. The spot provides an outdoor patio, bar section, and an open cafeteria style seating space. There is plenty of space to hold meetings, events, etc with WiFi available. There is a large projection screen and multiple TVs for sports. The seats are a little tough being that they are blocks of wood and not very comfortable but doesn’t hurt the experience. After checking in, you use your card to order. There are two self servicing food stations where you order food. Great concept but these tended to get very crowded upon observation. I would recommend getting more devices (not as practical) or spreading them a little apart. It appeared groups would stand together and decide what to eat so it became overcrowded. For the ones not drinking, they have soda options. The designated driver (DD) option have drinks for free which is a cool concept! It is very kid friendly but there are limited juice options visibly available. If there are options maybe put them on a sign to ask the bar. In addition, there were a lot of people confused on how to use the devices. Maybe put simple instructions to help guide the customers. We ordered two pizzas. We had the Vampire slayer on cauliflower crust and the Za-Preme pizza. The Cauliflower crust was amazing and a great gluten free option. The mix of garlic with cheese provides a palate pleaser. The Za-Preme pizza combo provided a good mix. The crust was doughy and tasty. Can’t wait to try more food there!Tons of beer options! All the beers I had were excellent. Pour as much as you want! You pay for it by the ounce! It gives you the option to try a variety of beers.Overall, it’s a great concept! The atmosphere was awesome. The food was delicious! Every Big Ash beer I had I loved! Check this place out!
To give 5 stars is a weak score. 10 star is more like it. Everyone part of the staff was very kind and helpful. My wife and I asked if they did tours and the manager personally gave us a tour throughout the brewery. His name is Doug and was very knowledgeable from every aspect of the brewing process. The food was also great. Great selection of craft beer, look forward to my next visit.
We loved every detail of this place! The food was hot, fresh & fast...and the beer selection was amazing! The manager of the night treated our group well & even gave us a little tour of the brewery & showed us how the brew wall functions.Highly recommend you check this place out!
I am not a beer connoisseur, I unapologetically like Bud Light. But this place has beer that even drinkers like me enjoy. I asked the bartender for something that tastes like Bud Light she was more than gracious. She recommended a beer that was close to Bud Light and even let me try it before I bought it. Ive been to other breweries that were not as accommodating of my request for a beer that tastes like Bud Light. Their buffalo chicken pizza was very good, I dont like spicy good but I really enjoyed it. Very flavorful. They had hot dogs, brats and metts outside. Those were also pretty good from what I could see. They do a card system for running a tab. It delt like the way a cruise ship works, you order a beer or food and just plop the card down and add it to your tab, I found it very convenient. They had a live band that was very good. I was impressed with all of the social distancing, everyone had a mask on and the tables were spread out accordingly.
Great beer and food. Very cool pour your own tap wall so you can try different beers. Very good live music and events as well.
The beer was good. Atmosphere was just like most other breweries. However, I hope thus kind of place does not become the norm. I enjoy interaction with the bar backs and staff while being served. I like knowing the back stories on some of the beers like other breweries and you get that with interaction of the bartenders. My most critical hit comes from the self serve attitude. This idea, I hope, doesnt take hold because of the reasons listed above. And, not sure how the State of Ohio regulates self-serve alcohol. Seems risky.
I had my bachelor party here last night. All I can say is WOW. Not only were the food and drinks amazing, but the space itself was awesome. Plenty of room to walk around and hang with friends. They had an excellent selection of drinks- more than you would find at most local brew houses. The staff was extremely kind and helpful (especially Jody). He and the team at Big Ash made my night better than I could have imagined.
Beers are great! Great acoustic guy! Hip on new technology for ordering and getting your drinks (Self-Tap)! Staff very friendly! Pizza was very good, but a little too heavy on the garlic. Overall a fantastic night out!
Such a variety to match any taste, meal, or mood you might be experiencing. Now theyve added canned options in addition to the Growlers & Howlers. And cocktails to go! They provided fast & friendly curbside service: if you have health concerns, or if you are just exhausted at the end of a long day of work is and prefer to drink in your PJs. Its a win
Great beer selection and friendly staff!
I had my food delivered from DoorDash, I opened the box and a couple ants were inside crawling all over my bread sticks. The veggies also taste very rotten. I’m disgusted
Really amazing space! COVID-friendly with required masks and paper barriers for tap pours- Jessica walked us through beer-pouring, food ordering & bar service.Amazing concept- will be back with friends.
Tried the Mulligan beer, really enjoyed it. Would choose it over my regulars.
This place has proudly plopped a “concert venue” right in the middle of an empty parking lot in a residential area. They love to blast 80s cover bands so loud that it’s uncomfortable to listen to in-person, and the noise is a serious nuisance to many neighbors. I sent them a Facebook message about the noise on a night I could hear the music indoors with my windows closed, and they blocked me. They haven’t made any effort to dampen the noise, and they’re getting away with it since Anderson doesn’t have a noise ordinance that applies to businesses. Stay away from this place and patronize another local brewery with outdoor seating, such as Deadlow Brewing, Streetside Brewery, or Karrikin Spirits.
My buddy & I decided to try this spot out last evening & it was a pleasant surprise as it was Music Trivia Night. The service & the food was great. We had the Meathead & a soft pretzel. The beer was cold & the workers even helped us pour our drafts. Plenty of room & clean space for you & your family to enjoy. This place is definitely a great addition to the East Side.
A friend and I went to the pop up market. 8 vendors. Every 3rd Saturday. The concept for how to order, buy and get food is intriguing. We will be going there sometime in the near future.
Had fun... Many different beers
Great tasting beer and even better service
I love this place. Cant wait to go back
If the kitchen is closed you shouldnt accept takeout orders, it that hard 🤷♂️
Very disappointed food blew having to poor your own beer blew band sucked one and done for me
Exceptional selection of beer (thankfully theyre not *all* IPAs!), and their pizzas are not too bad. I was amused during my last visit to see a tip jar at the cashier desk, given that it is self-serve.
With covid restrictions this place is excellent! Plenty of room to sit outside, friendly workers, beer is cold, fresh and good. Serves plenty of different beer drinkers as there are plenty of type of beers! Would highly recommend. Live music is always good.
Fantastic people here. The service is next level and they have a beer for everyone here. This place gets packed so get their early or be prepared to sit outside.
I just watched multiple people walk up to the taps, pour a taste and put that same cup right back up to the tap. Staff just stands and watches like we aren’t in a pandemic. Pretty disgusting.
There electronic tap system was really cool and easy to use.
Excellent covid location! Great beer choices for all types of beer (and non-beer) lovers. Technology there is awesome and efficient
Very unique pour your own brewery. Great pizza and super friendly staff.
Only good thing was the pizza. We had never been here, and tried to figure out the beer taps for a good 10 minutes before a super rude employee came over and was very condescending and not helpful.Strangest brewery I’ve ever been too, and we’ve been lots in the tri state.
Terrible set up in my opinion. They explained the draft system but not how to order food or pay out. It may just be me not knowing the system but we left after 1 beer and would not return.
Very large open outdoor beer garden, kind staff and good beer. Lots of parking, too
This brewery had a rocky start in terms of Beer and timing with regards to COVID. That being said beer is now fantastic and the way the handled COVID has been incredible from start to present.Favorite beers include - Backbeat (coffee blonde) and Dreaming Cows (milk stout)
Fun tap house with a variety of seating options, beer, and pizza.
I was waiting for COVID to settle down before giving it a try. But after living next to it for months, Ill never go. This used to be the quietest, peaceful living area before Big Ash opened. Now, they blast their loud music constantly, whether its 11pm or 4:30pm. All the music they play sounds the same to me at this point honestly. This isnt OTR and its deadass the only restaurant in their area. JUST LOWER THE VOLUME. How people dont complain is beyond me. I dont know about their food/service, but living next to them is 0/10 would not recommend.
Had a great time and like the way the self serve works. I was there for a event and helped out the parking lot fun. Was leaving and met the most horrid employee I have met in a long time. SUPER RUDE and terrible interaction with me. I was just trying to pay my bill after 2 or 3 hours of volunteering. She needs fired.
Always a great time - and we love the great programs they run to support the local community. Beer selection is impressive and food selection is decent (I enjoyed a large chicken Caesar salad and my wife loves the tree hugger pizza). Lots of friendly staff and signage to help you navigate their covid friendly setup.
Always a great time! Great music, great beer, and great food! The staff does everything possible to make you feel comfortable. The staff also are wearing masks and I see them continually reminding guests to do the same. Definitely one of my neighborhood favorites!
The Peach Mango Ale is amazing!
Very cool concept serving yourself by the ounce! However, as a server/ bartender myself, I STRONGLY strongly disagree with the pressure to (or requirement if youre part of a party) to tip at this brewery. Customers serve themselves, bus themselves and grab their own food. Tips are meant to be for excellent service. There is no service here. This would be like tipping fast food employees. Pay your staff a living wage and do not pressure customers into tipping for a service that does not exist
Good food. Great beer selection.
Wow! Grade A curbside service from this convenient location between Mt. Lookout and Anderson. I ordered a couple of pizzas, a large salad, and some growlers for my family after weeks of cooking at home. The pizzas were piping hot, the salad was fresh, and the beer ice cold - cannot recommend this place more. Additionally, curbside service was seamless and friendly with no contact and no wait at 7pm on a Friday. I will for sure be a return customer!!!
Spacious inside and out with great self-service options
Good beer and atmosphere with an interesting concept. But please get new stools, they are so small and uncomfortable.
Great beer selection. The blonde coffee beer is very unique and delicious.Food....ok but not the reason Id go back.
I wont be going back here. I was screamed at by Nicki, the manager, while i was masked up with my 2 year old son to stop dancing and get away from the stage. We were the only people up there. I am happy to comply with all COVID related policies, but when I asked her why there was no sign or ropes to tell customers about this policy, she continued screaming at me. When I asked her if, I was to come back next week, will there be signs to avoid this situation, she kept yelling that she wouldnt repeat herself. Every time I go for live music we get a table and drop $140+. Manager was clearly drunk and agitated. I will not be returning, which is a shame since I live nearby.
This is basically the coolest place ever. Virtually every beer was excellent and even better, since you can pour as much or as little as you want, I could try almost all. Surprisingly my favorite was a beer I never would have tried if I had to order a whole pint. I highly recommend this place. Theres something for everyone!
Great beer selection, live music (hard rock, if youre into that), and the pizza was really good. Ask for Ryan if youre there, hes awesome.
Great all around experience! Pizza is delicious and the beer is fresh and tasty. Id love to come back when Im in town for a live music concert.
If you want service don’t go here!Once you enter the doors you are basically on your own-your food will be plopped down on your table with no plates to eat your food off of-and you will never see any wait staff. Oh! I take that back you will see them when they follow you out the door telling you why you should tip them. This place has no atmosphere and is in need of new managers. Never again!
Lots of helpful staff looking to make your experience great.
GREAT PLACE, GREAT FOOD!!!
The immortal words of Homer Simpson, beer good!Good local brewery with every beer selection except for wheat.
Such a great band but no social distancing or mask wearing ...we obeyed, wore our masks .. stayed in our seats ... but had to leave when rules weren’t enforced 😞Talked with the manager and he said he would take care of it but he did not ! The dance floor was filled with people not wearing masks as well as walking around with no masks !So disappointed because we really like BIG ASH ... but feel like we can’t go back !
Wow, what a great place to grab some pizza and beer during the pandemic. Practically everything is contactless and there is some great beer and pizza here. I am really impressed- what a great alternative when other places are barely trying
Great beer and food served by fun friendly people. I really like the pay per ounce self service model and that they carry some beers and ciders from other local brewers. The environment is casual and clean. The pretzels, pizza, and salads are all foodie quality. The selection and quality of beers they brewed themselves covers all the basics with a few surprises mixed in to keep things interesting.
Needs more flavor
Love this place! It’s nice pouring small tasting beers on my own & they only charge by the ounce. The selection is great & the pizzas are too! The atmosphere with all the handmade ash tables & chairs is beautiful!
