Have gone a few times but just for breakfast. Had an excellent experience. Even when the place was crowded they served me as fast as they could. Let me just put it like this. If a group wanted a place to go for breakfast, then I would always highly recommend here instead of the other breakfast diners in the area.

Have been to the Chubbuck, ID location several times for breakfast and had good food. Thought we would try them for dinner & what a mistake! Our food came out cold and my husbands plate arrived 10mins. Behind my food. When he finally did get his food, it was cold also! Incredibly disappointed and will not be back. We have so many other great choices in town. Server did apologize for the poor service that night, but that didnt change anything. The couple beside us also had the exact same thing happen to them. Extremely disappointed.

I love they food so good I love there pies. I also love there pictures hanging around the restaurant.I absolutely love the people there they are really nice. If you are looking for a place to take your family back bear is they place they have kids Menus and adult they have a lot of food to choose from. They have a lot of drinks. GO TO BLACK BEAR TODAY

My husband and I have been regulars at Black Bear Diner now for several months since we moved to Chubbuck, ID. They have some very delicious menu items, admittedly we have only ate there for breakfast but it is delicious! Weve always had great fast service and never had to wait for a table. While we love all the waiters and waitresses that weve had, we want to give a shout out to Toni who has waited on us several times and always been fantastic!

I was there on my own for Thanksgiving. The staff were so friendly. The food was so delicious and very large plates. I brought home leftovers and shared with my husband when he got home from work. Ill be going back there.

Dining was a little slow. Most of the food was pretty good other than the pulled pork on the taco salad. It was dry. The staff was very accommodating and resolved the issue of the pulled pork on a Timely matter. Might be a little while till I return but Ill be back to give it a second go.

My sister and I meet for breakfast most Thursdays and we really enjoy eating there. Especially, when Toni is working. She is the best and we really enjoy her happy attitude and great service.

I had the Denver omelette, hash browns and huge biscuit. A ton of delicious food! The portion was so large I had to take half of it home. Service was so so, with the server even admitting she was distracted and busy doing other things. Overall, I would not hesitate to go back.

I eat here regularly sometimes several days a week. Everything on the menu is good and they will adjust any dish to my taste if I need it. Employees are experienced, professional, and friendly.

Staff was nice and food was good. However the place was about 50 degrees. We asked them to adjust the temperature but they informed us that the heat wasnt working. We where not dressed for a winter weather meal and it made for a very unpleasant experience.

We arrived at 12:05 pm Wednesday, we were seated after a few minutes. Because there was 5 of us we got a table faster seeing as they had larger tables available. Our drinks were brought out quickly, however we waited 30 minutes before we received our rolls. We could see part of our order sitting in the window from the kitchen so I had to ask for my sons lunch as it was now 12:45 and he only had an hour lunch break. . Another waitress proceeded to tell us that 2 cooks didnt show up that day because they had been working 15 hour shifts since the restaurant had opened 2 weeks before. The managers were in the kitchen helping prepare orders with the one cook that was there. I wanted to order the Catfish because it had the least amount of carbs and sodium but was told the only thing that came with it was fresh spinach, no other sides. This is after the waitress said she had never taken a dinner order. At 12:50 pm our order finally arrived. I ordered the taco salad that had purple cabbage in it. My daughter had to get me my sour cream and salsa because the waitress was no where to be seen. The (not our waitress) returned to our table several times at which point we just wanted her to go away. It turns out she crashed my daughters wedding last summer and was removed after trying to steal decorations. Now Im really not impressed. My husband and father-in-law and son liked the burgers, however we will go to Freddys next door from now on. I gave it 2 stars because the burgers were good and the price wasnt awful for the 5 of us @ $61

Very friendly and attentive wait staff. We had breakfast @ 7:00 PM. Not only was the portions large, it was cooked to perfection and priced fairly. Highly recommend!

Strange, Im finding 2 Black Bear locations when I thought theyre was only 1... But anyways, good food with great service! I especially like the bear claw back scratcher a family member purchased for me!

The food is always great here. Our service was not it was Black Friday so maybe that was why. We didnt have a specific server and had to flag someone down every time we needed help. There were other things that we told them about when we paid for our food and they were very apologetic and took $ off our ticket.

Id love to review the food, but after waiting at our table for over 15 minutes without even being talked to by any of the waitstaff, other than the surly hostess that grumbled something unintelligible as she sat us, we gave up and left. As we walked back through the restaurant to leave, we could see little clusters of employees standing around doing nothing, and none of them acted like we existed. If you dont want my money, plenty of other places in town will gladly accept it.

Well, after posting my review and my complaint they fixed it. Which I am appreciative of . I left the tip part blank .my significant other said I should of drawn a line through it.Which i didnt . Anyways when me and my significant other goes out one pays for dinner and the other leaves a tip.She left 20 percent on the table in cash. It may not be a good system now in the days of debit cards I dunno.

Food tasted good despite being way undercooked. I probably shouldnt have eaten it and I dont believe in sending it back to the kitchen, I just wont go back again. I felt bad for the servers. They appeared to be quite overwhelmed. Another server dropped our food off after a wait that seemed to be forever, and said heres your food but I have to hurry to my table. Not sure if they had to go kill another cow out back or if the kitchen staff was short handed as well.

Took forever to get our food. When it finally came it was cold. Send it back twice. Im sure all they did was reheat it both times. Salad didnt show up till meal came. I would have thought they may at least discounted the meal but they didnt. I dont believe this was the waitresses fault. It had to be in the kitchen.I have never given anyone a review before,but just had to this time.😠 I wouldnt have given one star but thats the only was this would go through.

Fun times! We were seated quickly. There was some confusion as for the wait staff as to who had our table. But after about 10 minutes a manager stopped by took our drink orders and got things straightened out. Considering it was only the second day they were open and that was the only problem we had that shows a very well trained staff! Went in just for dessert. Two people at our table split the lava cake and it was steamy when they cut into it. Awesome! I and another friend had the coconut cream pie. And it was wonderful! Portions are large and splitting a pie will be the way to go next time. Food came out quickly. Only other complaint, and again small, is the trim board on wall is very rough, like snag sweaters rough. So if your in a booth dont lean against the wall. All in all it was great and were already planning on going back for another friends birthday later this month.

My wife grew up near Mt. Shasta where this was started so she was really excited to see one of these in Idaho. We were seated and waited twenty minutes and no one ever came to offer us drinks or take our order. We walked out and ate at Freddys. Super disappointed.

We liked this place when they first opened, but they have gone down hill fast. Portions are large, we usually split something. The food is now only so so, menu is limited, not many gluten free or low carb options. They are over priced for what they offer. The staff seems to not be interested in customer. The food was not cooked as we asked (way over done when requested medium rare and eggs were hard.) We have had long waits sitting at the table without even being offered water to drink then to only be told they were out of what we ordered, or were short handed and would get to us as soon as possible.

The service was good, the food was not. Didnt this place close without telling its employees right before Christmas?!! Thats really messed up!!!

Food was cold by the time they brought everything out. The chicken fried steak tasted like flour. Hash browns were still hard like they werent cooked. When spoke to managment they just said did you let your server know when it was the server that brought the food out in portion so why would I tell them something they already knew. I will never go back to this place.

11-27-2017. Arrived about 4:00p.m. there was hardly anyone in the resturant. We waited 20 minutes for a waiter to take our order. It was a good 45 minutes before our order came. I had the pot roast with veggies. It was good but it would have been better if the veggies were served in a separate bowl they were all mixed in with the gravey. Another in our party ordered a turkey sandwich, the toast on it was burnt to the point she didnt eat the bread. Our waiter did offer to redo the sandwich but we were running behind schedule due to the length of time to get our meal. Waiter said they had New cook and was they only one.

Twice my family and I have been to Black Bear Diner, and twice we have been ignored. On both occasions we have been passed over for other families that entered the restaurant after us. Both those times the diner was not busy, the second time we were the only ones in the entire waiting area. Both times the staff gave us the poor excuse of Sorry, we didnt see you. After reading the other reviews we were probably ignored due to laziness, poor training, and even worse service. First incident I will accept as a mistake, a second time I will not ignore poor service. Second time my wife asked to speak to a manager, and was given another excuse that one wasnt available. We finally just left. I will never patronize the business again. I have never written a review, but I couldnt let this pass.I have read the other reviews for the business, and a majority of them are one star, I would give zero stars if I could. A constant theme in almost all the reviews is lazy staff, and poor service. All I can say is I hope the manager sees this review, and addresses the issue, because they are losing a lot of money due to poor service, and lazy staff. However, I doubt anything will change as it seems they have had plenty of time to address these issues, but the poor reviews keep coming.

I have visited many Black Bear Diners, living in Oregon, they are in an abundance, I was quite disappointed with this visit, service was great! But the chicken pot pie had a TERRIBLE crust! Nothing light or flakey about it, the crust was so hard that I could not even bite it.no discount...Great people though!

Food was ok, but the service was horrible, took a half hour before some one took our order, then after our food was served we never seen a server, not once did we even get our drinks serviced, the second time we visited it was the same service!!! Horrible place! We will never go back

Awful service. There werr a ton of people ahead of us waiting to be seated, however there were multiple tables ( at least enough for 40 people) available but they still said a 25 minute wait. As someone with many years of restaurant and serving experience, I asked why and they said they didnt have enough servers on the floor. I am disappointed that they are unable to provide enough employees to accommodate a mediocre dinner pop on a Wednesday night! Wont be returning anytime to seen to see how awful they handle a Friday or Saturday night rush.

Our experience at the black bear diner was horrible. The wait staff seemed confused and lazy. We werent greeted when we entered. When our server finally arrived she just stood near the table looking at us. We had to ask her how her night was to get things rolling. While trying to place our order she was on the verge of outright arguing with me on what was included in my meal. She finally realized i was right. Our soups, roll, and cornbread arrived quickly but no drinks. The soup was ok but the vegetables were very undercooked. The cornbread was good. The roll tasted of nothing but baking soda.As we waited we noticed 5 separate employees wandering, or patrolling, around the tables. They awkwardly asked customers if everything was alright. When there was an issue they promised to inform the assigned server. 10 to 15 minutes later a server would arrive and would take another 5 minutes to solve the issue. Usually this was something like needing a water refill.After a long wait our food arrived, and was almost served to the couple across from us.The food was horrible. The mashed potatoes were okay but nothing special. The Italian beans had more fat than anything else and were bland. The onion rings on our steak were very hot so we set them aside. The steak was cooked to the proper doneness but it was cold. Like it had been cooked and then left on the plate on a counter while they prepared everything else. It also had a ton of fat. Of the 10oz about 4.5oz was fat around the outside and a huge vein through the middle of the steak.After we started eating our server returned and asked what our drink order had been. Water. Two, waters. She finally brought them. We quickly finished what little of the meal we were going to eat and one of the many patrolling team members cleared our table. When the couple across from us left one of the patrol asked another if he should sweep. The other answered, yeah probably. There were crumbs and pieces of food all over the floor under almost every table. You would think with the bear patrol meandering around that they could at least keep the floor clean. We waited for our bill, and waited, and waited. We finally decided to go to the register to pay. One of the patrol stopped us and asked if there was an issue. We informed him we needed our bill and we hadnt seen our server in a while. He promised to inform our server. She soon arrived but had charged us for drinks we didnt order or receive. After another ten minutes of waiting she finally brought our proper check.There were 5 people behind the counter, only one was actually running a register. After waiting in line we were finally able to pay and leave. We will not be returning.

We have been here many, many times since it opened. The food is always delicious, but the wait staff is not efficient. There is a blonde waiter that we have had several times; he seems to do a good job. The staff is all friendly enough, just not great at multitasking. Just this morning the table behind us asked for boxes from another waitress because they couldnt find theirs. The table next to us waited for the entire time we were eating our food to have their order taken, and one table of two walked out because they had been seated for at least 15 minutes without being noticed by anyone working there. We had three different waitresses throughout our meal. The food was excellent as always, but the wait staff needs a kick in the pants.

Wasnt impressed, I think my server was new. She brought out my soup late....with my food. She apoligized and then tried to make up for it by bringing us an extra roll (and explaining that she gave is an extra roll, though she was only suppose to give us one). This pushed me off and I didnt touch either, but instead I smashed them, because I felt her demenor was: shed take it in the back and give it to another customer. When the check came, she stood right there and when I gave her the stare that said, why are you hovering over me while I decide your tip?.. she said, they needed the check back, though you usually pay as you leave. This made no sense to me, as I charged the bill, she brought it back so I could add the tip...I gave her one dollar less. When we left, it looked as if she was being trained, which also included showing her how to run a check...it was an odd experience.I was remind, the reason she did not bring out soup and salad was because she was doing her side work and forgot. Like someone said ealier, very unorganized. I would have loved having the cute menu that mimicked a 1969 newspaper, but she took them...oh wait, I got one when I left. I wont be going back. No need for management to respond. I had steak and when I grabbed the steak sauce....well I took a picture of the top...first time visit and last. Impression is everything.

Went in for lunch today, found a long long hair hanging out of my sandwich then they took it to make me a new one and brought me back the whole wrong sandwich. Not the sandwich I had originally had. Was not a good experience at all. Waitress was nice though thats where the second star Comes from.

So disappointed today I have been once before and it was super. I dont know what happened today I got a togo order and it was burnt, eggs overdone, burnt hash browns, and my eggs benedict covered in gravy not hollandaise worst I have had. Even had to go back for biscuits and gravy that they forgot TERRIBLE!

Probably not one of my better restaurant experiences. My daughter and son-in-law ate there last week and said they had unacceptable service and food. When they placed their orders they were told there were no hashbrowns and the soup was gone. My daughters meal came, but not her husbands. Server admitted she had neglected to turn in both orders. After waiting some time ( my daughter was already done) his meal came, and........it was cold. They both swear they wont return. So............after hearing their story I went there last night with five friends! Two meals out of five (remember there were six of us) were acceptable. Three of us received cold food. The sixth person did not receive his food. When the server went to check she came back and admitted she had neglected to turn in his order. Hum, is there perhaps a trend here? His food arrived as we were finishing. I mentioned to our server and another employee that the food was cold but I dont think the information was passed on to the proper person because no one in management came to the table. Needless to sày my friends were a little upset that I hadnt told them about my daughters experience sooner and now, this is the worst part, Ill have to hear the I told you sos !!! Come on Black Bear, you can do better, and most importantly, Pocatello deserves better!!!

Outstanding food and amazing service

So after talking with the Management last night during our stay, I hate having to leave this review however I do think this is something that is important for everyone to see. Myself, my brother, and our Roommate went to Black Bear Dinner Last night that would be Wednesday June First, this was my first time here at Black Bear I have heard the food was great and the portions were large. We were seated promptly, and our greeter/seater had got our drinks started off. In about 10-15ish minutes from sitting, the Waitress had come over to begin getting our orders, during this time I had an empty glass of Tea, it was empty when she left, five minutes later she came back to double check to see if everyone was ready to order, it was this point that one of the other Glasses was empty as well.Time began to drift as our party sat in conversation between each other, waiting for food. At first I had not noticed it had been 25 minutes since our order, than 30 minutes, than 45 minutes by this time I have more than noticed that I am hungry, that I have another empty glass of tea and that we have not heard anything at all from our waitstaff. Hearing from a different waitress telling a table near us what was going on, and I quote It was slow so we had sent half our our kitchen staff home, and now they are backed up because we got a dinner rush. We had sat for 45 minutes after ordering with no update, no eta, no apology no communication at all from our waitstaff, instead we sat alone, parched hungry and getting more and more angry over our first time experiencing Black Bear Diner a place I have heard more than great things about, falling flat.We had gotten our food at around 8:20 pm and we had all asked for boxes, after sitting in the dining room of the Diner for almost an Hour and Twenty Minutes, with no food, no updates, nothing we had decided we will just eat in our home. We also asked a different waitress to speak to the Manager, the manager was amazing, owned the issue, took care of it the best she could by reducing the cost of the meal greatly. Learning from her that the Diner has already changed management since opening, that there are changes going on, and that she had just hired 4 new cooks, makes things understandable why the visit was so horrid. Will I give Black Bear diner the opportunity to earn these other four stars back. Probably. Was my food good, the chicken fried steak was good, the problem with the rest of it was simple food was over cooked, because you could tell that different cooks handled different items, of the meal and that some items were done /way/ before other items, and thus sat under a heat lamp for far too long waiting for the rest of the meal. My order consisted of Biscuits (added gravy), Chicken Fried Steak, three eggs over easy, hash browns covered in cheese and gravy. What was brought to me personally was A chicken fried steak, Country potatoes no gravy, three eggs now over hard, and biscuits no gravy, we pointed out the issues on my plate and the fix came back, as we were talking to the manger over the issues.The meal was highly discounted, and the Manager understood our plight. However a discount, and an apology do not earn more stars. I will be giving black bear diner another chance. Eventually.
