Ordered three lights for out new construction project. A detached garage for our 1926 California Bungalow. The designs are perfect and I like the oil rubbed bronze finish. Small detail, the screws did not come with a matching finish as expected, but they did work with me and mailed me matching screws. So I am happy with my lights.
Here I find myself in the rare occasion of posting a review. It either happens with business with great service or ones that are just not on the ball. This one is on the latter unfortunately as I had high hopes. I ordered my lights through a supplier that has done well by me over the years. One I still use, probably until this experience… The lights came in, I made the 108 mile round trip to get them. As I started unpacking them, five gooseneck lights with all the same necks and presumably same bases, one of the bases was different than the others. In my profession I take pride in the finished product and wanted to keep consistency of finished touches. Thought no biggie as the supplier and manufacture will take care of this little glitch as historically in the trades I have good experiences with making things right with no questions. This is where things made me feel disappointed, discouraged, perturbed and aggravated. The supplier said yes it appears you got one wrong base, we will contact the manufacture and get the right one on its it way. Well, I sent a text this morning wanting to have the base sent directly to me so I don’t yet again need to make the 108 mile round trip for something not being my mistake. She responded, “I will see if that is an option. There will be a shipping charge to get it to you.” I was dumfounded, not my screw-up here and now I either make the $62.64 trip (108 miles x IRS mileage rate for 2019) not including my time to get the right part or pay for shipping. I called hi-lite directly and they told me more or less the same thing. To say the least I’m not impressed on having to expend my time and money on something that seems to me falls squarely into the camp of a manufacture screw up.Both the supplier and manufacture said they would look into waiving the shipping charge. Its frustrating that neither accept that this is fully outside my responsibility and understand it shouldn’t cost the customer time and/or money to resolve something that should have never happened in the first place.
I requested my subcontractor purchase two ceiling lights (part number H-67134-119-OP-D) from Hi-Lite Manufacturing Company. On Hi-Lites description of the items, they described the lights as being glass. The word glass was clearly printed in the description. When the two units arrived, I found that they were not glass, but rather plastic (the company uses the term acrylic). The lights that were delivered to me look nothing like what was advertised. Both my subcontractor and myself tried for months tried to work with this company to resolve this issue with no success. The response from Hi-Lite was, We just relaunched our new website and there were a few bugs.I explained to them that their advertising was misleading and I was misled into believing that I was purchasing units with glass, not plastic.Had they clearly stated the units were plastic and not glass, I would never have purchased these lights.Because the problem was with bugs on their new website, I asked them to either A.) Give me the glass product that was advertised orB.) I return the lights and my subcontractor receives a refund. They then replied back stating that the larger fixtures are acrylic.Nowhere on their advertising did they state this. Their advertising clearly stated glass. I am now out over $2000 and had to spend another $2000 through a reputable manufacturer to get real glass pendants.
