Homey, and smells like good memories in Santa Cruz. Cant tell ya why, it just does. They have some publications by local authors, a good book selection, and real good coffee. Very happy with their open mic nights, too.

Great coffee. Lots of books. No charge for plant based milks. This place is fun and relaxing. Also the feel of the place is very Chico. Reminds me of my fave part of Chico the youthful vibe.

Im not a coffee person, but Id go to Blackbird anyway to see all the cool books, animal rights stuff, and other social justice and political messages. I tried a vegan scone there and it was great. Theres a little farmers market there on Mondays with great vegan finds.

Ive been here a few time and its mediocre at the very best. The staff always looks and behaves like theyre high, mixes orders up, forgetfulness, etc. And, now the Blackbird is actively engaging in the needle exchange program and abolish ice. This place reeks of filth and sleaze. There are many much better places in town that cater to a more savory slice of Chico.

It is a new great place with lots of interesting books, my only doubt at this point is the overall organization of space: somehow there are very few seats, considering the size of the place. The owners should move some things around and add some tables and chais for people to sit on. Right now there aren’t that many, and the organization of the space is just awkward. I feel books should be showcased in the shelves and that entrance space should be used forMore seating. Just my two cents.

I dont usually write reviews for places, but in this case I had to make an exception, as this place is truly exceptional itself -- (I even stopped writing a school essay just to write this review!) As a new Chico native, I was excited to try out some of the vegan options that this little town has to offer. When I arrived at Blackbird, I was pleasantly surprised, from the rich chai-der, to the freshly baked apple muffin (I ordered two!!), it was an enchantment of taste. (Seriously, you wont know what Im talking about until you try it- and trust me, try it!!) In addition, the place itself is charming, with an indoor bookstore, gift shop, and outdoor garden from which you may purchase herbs amongst other things. All of their pastries and drinks are freshly made each day, vegan, organic, and beyond delicious. This place is very personal, as the same person who bakes the pastries serves you at the checkout counter. This locally-owned vegan cafe is by far one of the most charming places, vegan or not, that I have ever been to. I will definitely become a regular here.

I love book stores like Blackbird and hope they can stay open with Amazon and big box. However, making this as a needle exchange location should not be on their menu if you want to keep quality clientele.

Blackbird is the local anarchist coffee shop. AK Press and Blackbird have partnered to offer a HUGE selection of zines, traditional magazines, books, and other publications. They only serve drip coffee, tea, kombucha and beer, but the drinks are excellent and the staff are extremely knowledgeable. It can get very hot on the outdoor patio, and the seating is limited, but it feels like a secret and its the best morning-meetup coffee shop in Chico.

Nice atmosphere, interesting reading materials, and good coffee. Was nice to have some vegan eats on hand (big bonus points), though some fresher pastries and such would have been nice, beyond just packaged cookies, etc. Lovely little place.

Great locally owned and managed cafe. Lots of books from AK Press to look at and purchase. Good long hours to stop in and sit down too. Good sweating and even enough for small meeting and events. Parking in back, off the street and close to down town but not too close so on street parking is free. Friendly staff and an all gender restroom makes for an inclusive and great place to be. Stop by for a chai, coffee, pastry, or even a cold nitro coffee, youll be glad you did. Check out their posters too for some great intimately attended events.

Decor and curated books very nice. Coffee, to quote Charles Barkley, was turrble. If the coffee was good, not 3 hours in the airpot, Id be inclined to return. Seems like good coffee is what would get people in there, and returning. Identity crisis!
