Horrible. They have no problem selling spoiled food both meat and processed items on multiple occasions. Selection is limited. Prices are based on whims and high. Food stays on shelf forever. I do not recommend shopping here for anything other than a snack. Go to jewel osco, Aldi, they have an appreciation for their customers that this place lacks severely.
This is a five star, first rate, Hispanic grocery store. With the best selection and friendliest people Ive met in the US.
Looks small on the outside but carries a lot of products! Very clean with decent prices and lots of sales going on all the time. The produce is extremely fresh, I love going there for groceries ♥️
The best little Mexican store Ive ever been to.. amazing selections, basically anything you need is here. Prices are very fair and lower than most other places Ive been to, deli selections are so various as well as cleaning products.
My favorite grocery store in Chicago. Used to live across the street but now I trek 20 minutes to shop here. So easy to navigate, very friendly. Love their produce and spice collection. Also tons of speciality products that you could never find at jewelosco. Make sure to checkout the discount produce rack it always comes in clutch
A hidden gem! My family has been shopping at La Casa del Pueblo for decades. Prices are reasonable, but their sales items are great. The store is well maintained, well stocked, and clean. The meat counter revivals that of the big chain stores, but at better prices. The staff is always courteous and helpful.
I really like their daily sales. Not all their sales are posted on windows so you do have to browse around.
Great neighborhood grocery store, has everything including vegan and vegetarian specialty items. Beautiful produce, highly recommended.
I used to buy my lunch here everyday, but the food doesnt have the same taste, they dont cook with love anymore theres always homeless people outside the restaurant asking to buy them food or asking for money and if you dont buy them food or give them change they will get mad at you and tell you thingsThe cashier young guy charged my card twice two times and my money was never returned to my account I had to call my bank and dispute the charge! DEFINITELY NEVER GOING BACK!!💯🙅♀️
Prices are high for some items but overall its stocked for your desire
First time visiting this location and definitely coming back everyone was so nice !! Al my question got answer one of the workers even let us know of a better deal, super clean.
*THE BEST* grocery store. Everything is always in stock. Cozy mom and pop shop feel. Helpful and available staff. I drive out of the way to come here!!
Always a great experience. The food there is delicious and no wait. They are charging 0.75 for debit or credit card transactions. They also charge 0.50 extra for the pico de Gallo or the salsa asada. Good selection or coke or Pepsi products.
Its got everything that you would need for a picnic
Chile relleno taco with meat ground beef carrots and potatoes, also had a barbacoa taco is always tender and tasty we had a salsa Verde chicharron had chucks of meat and chicharron very spicy
I was here yesterday and today. I had coffee and two tacos. One was barbaquoa and one papa and egg. They were delicious in flour tortillas freshly made or homemade style.
Too crowded and too much stuff in the aisles to shop. Too small
Affordable and great neighborhood grocery store
A well stocked little grocery store that I frequently visit. Im skeptical of their meat and the produce is kind of limited, so I only go there for small grocery hauls.
Local grocery store. They have a nice selection given their size. Just no alcohol 🙃
The food here is excellent, just like what my mother used to make. Tables are spaced apart and mask are required when not eating.
Great groceries with fair prices
Really nice neighborhood grocery store. For a small place theyre really well stocked. As the neighborhood is changing, the selection here has changed and its really a weird sensation to see traditional Mexican grocery items side by side with more eclectic things like vegan food and Indian, Asian and other ethnic food. For something not very big, they do a really good job on stocking, especially since this is a standalone and not part of a chain.
Loved this grocery store. I tried to go to their taqueria but it was close during covid so I went to the store to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised that it had so many products, was very neat & organized & had the best Barbacoa that reminds me of Texas style Barbacoa. I’ll definitely be back for the Barbacoa, produce & kitchenware.
Looks pretty plain and unassuming on the outside, but interior is well-stocked, clean, and surprisingly large. Prices are very reasonable.
Great food love this place.
They sometimes have good deals, but there is nothing particularly exciting in shopping here.
Consistently had good produce, butcher shop is always good too. They also always have sanitizing products available to clean your shopping cart or basket.
This is my childhood grocery store! It’s still the best and fun place to shop for groceries.
Food delicious, service is very good and establishment very clean.
The best in town
I thought this place was ok. I only had one dish. Thier beans were homeade with chorizo which i liked. They do have alot of other things i wanna try. I did see they had tamales ready to go sweet one too. One thing that really sucked was it was hot as heck, there was no a.c no fans nothing i really couldnt enjoy my expierience cause it was so hot. I would go back to try the other things they had.
Great food and service
Best chiles rellenos period. Rick Bayless has nothing on these ladies cooking.
I did not go to la casa del pueblo. I havent been there in a long time. The food is not that good. I prefer other food around there, better. Go to milagro.
Perfect little store in the heart of Pilsen.
The tamales are very yummy and most.
Great food and good costmer service
Great food & service
Very good food. The staff is very friendly. Some of the waitresses do not speak English but they try. Hard to place a catering order since the oder form is only in Spanish. The manager is nice and helpful but the owner and his mother are not. They are extremely rude and constantly yell at their staff. He is always in a bad mood. No one wants to be there when hes there...including the customers! If you need assistance ask for the manager. If the owner shows up...run!!!
Great local tacos.
Been going there for over 20 yrs and always consistently great food.
This store has everything. Also things you can not find anywhere. Sales people are great and polite.
Great service, great food original machacado.keep up the good work.have a great day .
Great grocery, and keeps getting better. Vegetable section is awesome, hot bar with excellent food, sushi, basics. Thumbs up!!
Excellent tamales. Loves this place all kinds of great old school food. I always buy a ton of stuff.
Best small grocery store in chicago!
There is inadequate signage or descriptions for the hot dishes sold and for 18 years its been impossible to get any real info on what these dishes are, whats included in them, etc. Maybe because I dont speak Spanish. Its not only a language problem. Its an I dont care/I cant be bothered/ you dont matter attitude thats very clearly expressed. Even the few English speaking staff, like the managers dont help. Youre on your own and thats why IveIIvethatsTheyre very happy to take my money, however. The prices have gotten outrageous for what you get. Tamales were good, if you like finding long hairs in your food.
A true neighborhood grocery store, but with all the things you really need. As it is in Pilsen, it has an extensive Mexican slant, but thats the beauty of it - needed dried Mexican oregano today, which is oddly hard to find, and it was $1.50 for a container the size groceries use for a pound of deli salads. More than ample street parking on Blue Island and two smallish parking lots. Am definitely going back when I have more time to browse the aisles for Mexican items I havent seen anywhere else. They have a limited selection of cooked foods to get a plate lunch (the beans looked delicious), what appeared to be a full service butcher and deli and a standard seafood selection.
Very Good food
I love the prices. And the people are very nice and polite.
Great selection of Mexican ingredients. The produce section has everything you can imagine, and the prices are reasonable. This is my go-to place for fresh produce. I also like that they have a wide selection of boxed items. All and all, I definitely recommend. Plus you can visit the restaurant next door and grab a paleta from across the street.
Mmm
This market has a great selection of produce, canned goods, dairy/non-dairy options and even cookware and cleaning supplies. The staff here are very helpful and knowledgeable about the store layout and have helped me locate a number of things very quickly. If you’re from Latin America/the Caribbean and looking for the ingredients to make something that will remind you of home, this is almost certainly the place.
Ive been going to Casa Del Pueblo since I was a little girl. I would give them more than five stars if I could. They have a surprisingly large selection of vegan-friendly goods and they take a lot of care towards reducing the amount of plastic that they use. For example if you forget to bring your bag you can take one of the boxes that they reuse for grocery packing. Their variety is incredible and the music is always jamming
Havent been here in years and it is just how I remember it. I might come here more often because it brings back so many memories.
Went here over the weekend with my family to celebrate my Dads byday - unfortunately the experience was horrible. First, several of the ladies serving the food were all extremely rude and seemed to be annoyed that my daughter and I did not speak to them in Spanish. They repeatedly ignored us and skipped over us on at least three occasions. I was shocked because they waited on the two people standing behind me but refused to wait on us....the only reason they finally took our order is because my mom approached and asked them (in Spanish) to please take our order. Let me add that I am Hispanic however I really dont know Spanish that well at all. This is why I addressed the counter help in English. It is my belief that as long as I am polite and courteous (which I was) it should not have mattered if I spoke English or Spanish (my money is still green). The staff here actually seemed offended. I will add the food is good however I will not be going back here...prejudice in any form is not acceptable.
Great selection, kind employees! I love doing my shopping here. They have all the produce, grains, meat, frozen goods, etc. Also gluten free and vegetarian friendly options.
Nick was a great help.
Great selection, good produce
Love their lengua. 😛
Very vast selection of things for grocery, personal care, etc. Meat is always fresh in the meat market. Been shopping with La Casa for years will continue to shop there. One down side is how tight the isles are. Thats the only complaint. They even have a place to cash checks. Very nice indeed.
Its ok
Inside dining. Great tacos!
As always, Delicious. I could tell the items on the menu were hot and freshly made. The staff bend backward to accommodate your every whim. Great place for typical mexicanI food.
Great place for groceries. Customer service is fantastic. They also have a wide variety of stuff to choose from ranging from deli meats to the most basic items you can think of. If you live in Pilsen use this for your daily needs.
Best Littlest supermarket in the city. Produce, meats are fresh, inventory moves quickly & always a sale on something you need. Service, especially checkout is super friendly & twice as fast. Who needs the big supermarkets?
Rude cashiers. Try to embarrass people by saying so lousy “YOUR CARD WAS DECLINED DO YOU NEED TO TAKE AN ITEM OFF” when it was an error message and the transaction successfully went through after a second attempt. Don’t try to embarrass people especially when they have the money to pay for their items. Will not be returning solely because of the childish check out and bag girl
A clean, well lit grocery store with wide variety of fresh and preserved foods.
Hands down my favorite Mexican food in the city. I consider myself the expert of all Mexican food. There arent too many places I havent been!Casa is grand above all!Where else can you stand to order kitchen style then minutes late the ladys come to youre table with delicious authentic Mexican?Do not pass go.
OMG, had a friend pick up some breakfast for us everything a la carte. A pint of eggs and potatoes was $8, very good but one avocado sliced was $6.50. Highway Robbery when one is .99 cent at their store right next doorPlus it was hard not all the way ripe
Ive been shopping for La Casa for years 54 to be exact my father used to deliver chickens back in the day try to 60s its a beautiful place to shop and they have all the name brands employees are very friendly and very helpful a good place to shop for all your needs for your family in your business also
I enjoy the variety of food here, especially organic. I love the variety of different teas offered, vegetarian, vegan, and more. Everyone has been polite any time Ive visited.
My childhood grocery store, very nostalgic
Its my neighborhood grocery store. Love it and their restaurant has the best tamales.
One of my favorite groceries store in the whole city! They are friendly and they have tons of organic foods! Go check them out, you will love them
Unique selection. Many sale items.
Ok food!!!! bad service. the staff is very rude!! Poor customer service skills. Will not be going back And Very Over Priced!!!
Great place! Homemade delicious food. Not complaints on my end.
Very clean, friendly, great prices. Highly recommend this place.
My favorite smaller grocer in Pilsen. Produce is always fresh. The healthy alternative options they have is admirable.
Food was good but the mandatory 15% gratuity added to the check when there is really no service provided is really extreme I would avoid this place.
Sometimes the produce isnt great, but the staff is super friendly, they have good prices, and lots of healthy/organic/ethically produced options. Im here once a week now. Its a total gem! (And their neighboring Taco Stand isnt bad either.)
Very clean and organized...first time there
Excellent Mexican produce variety. Staff is as friendly as a real Mexico typically is !!! I sadly dont live close so my commute to this place takes me long, I was sad to get in and find out that the item I was looking for was out... I called a week later to confirm first, I left my phone number and they called me back !!!! I was happily surprised to see how amazing the customer service is!!!
Good prices, and sometimes surprising selections. Especially good to pick up Mexican specialties. And Rick Bayless mentions em all the time! Dont miss the cafe across the parking lot.
Good service and food
A little pricey with cereal but store has good groceries and meat selections. Sweet!!!
They ALMOST always have what Im looking for.
This is my go to grocery store. I love this place.
Great place to eat.
