I spoke with Julie and she hanged up on me. I used to work with a company that purchase steel and wire from Central Steel & Wire for 12 years and they had great customer service. However I called up to ask a question and Julie hanged up on me.

Can be slow, appointments do not seem to mean anything. The folks there will explain my load to me, loaded it in sequence for delivery. Crane operator was very observant and anticipated my movement around my truck.

Had us waiting for quite a while then had us go into the office and told us where to pull in to unload and right as we pulled in they all went on break for 40 minutes and still took another hour and a half to unload. Be prepared to spend quute a while here.

Please never deliver here! The broker will set an appointment for you but this place doesn’t care about any appointments. They deserve the rating that they got. A lot to be improved.

When we first started as metal fabricator we used to use Central Steel & Wire as our sole steel supplier and over the past year Im so glad we no longer do. Their customer service and delivery expectations are horrible and they have so much turnover within their sales department I dont even know who to contact. If youre looking to source sheet metal I would highly recommend going elsewhere.

Horrible company to deal with. Placed orders in 3rd quarter of 2020, and couldnt get the product out of their warehouse. Fast forward to April 2020, they rejected those orders and wanted us to reorder them under the new cost figures. Youve got to be kidding. I will do what I can to stay away from this company.

Making delivery was not bad, they unload me before timing, they were to polite . You can overnight parking/shower/clean restroom.My appointment was at 10:00 am they start unloading 9:50 and at 11:00 I was out

Dont bother coming here youll end up waiting till your clock runs out then they have the audacity to tell you to leave and come back the next day just to have you wait 5 more hours for a dock

They work by appt but, youll wait 4-5 hours after your appt,they dont give a f... about your time, check your cdl before you come here might expire till you are done.

I used central steel for the past 10 years for my company and were great, ever since they changed ownership to ryerson they are the absolute worst steel supplier to deal with!!!

Great place to deliver to. Everyone was friendly and honored my delivery appointment time. Got right in at my scheduled time and didn’t rush me out of the building after they got there product off and as I was putting my equipment away. Have spots to park overnight.

There should be an option for negative stars. Appointment @ 11am, arrived @10:31 am, and still sitting in the parking lot loaded waiting to unloaded @ 1:38 pm. All of the 5 star reviews are complete BS. Ive been here MANY times and its the same thing every time! Will not haul for them or to them ever again.

After reading the reviews about this place, I was thinking the worst. But all in all for my first time coming here it wasnt really bad at all. My appointment was for 1pm. I arrived at 1030am and they came to get me at 130pm. For all those who complain about waiting, that is because of the other trucks inside getting loaded or unloaded. I got in and as soon as I was untarped and unstrapped they unloaded me right away. No issues at all. In and out pretty much.

I come to this place regularly to pick up steel. Every experience seems to be getting worse. I’m actually writing this review as I’m waiting. I came here yesterday to pick up an order that was place 3 days ago which is plenty of time to fill it. Yesterday they told me it would be ready for pick up by 11:30am and I get here only to find out it’s not and I would have to wait. I waited 2 hours for them to tell me to just come back tomorrow. Well, I’m here now and they’re telling me after 3 hours of waiting that the order is done, they just don’t have any workers to load my truck. They have cranes and machine loaders but they can’t toss 475 pounds of steel in the back of my truck? This place is ridiculous and I will for sure be taking my business elsewhere.

Checked in 16:30. At 21:00 they knock on my door. I tell them its no longer time for loading, its now time for sleep. I went with the guy anyway. At 02:30 I sent my loaded call. I will never come here again, and you shouldnt either.

They dont honor the appointments they make. We have to make an appointment for delivery but you wont get in for 3 or 4 hours past your appointment. Will NEVER come back here again. Go pick up your own stuff

Havent delivered here and havent picked up here so I cant say for that part. You do have a driver that knows nothing about Chicago area. I was looking for somewhere to turn around and I asked the check in guy if it was ok for me to turn around since Im lost and need a truck stop. He told me I could either go turn around in the parking lot or feel free to stay all night. I told him Im not picking up or dropping off. He said he didnt mind he knows how it is in Chicago for drivers and this would be easier for me. I thanked him and ended up staying the night. I appreciate it you guys I was almost out of hours

This place is the most unprofessional place I have had to go to. Its dirty, unsafe, and they think its one big game, to mess with people. They dont know how to load. They take customer orders, fill them but, want you to load them. Show me your endorsement, for loading trucks. Along with my day driver, we are sending informative memos out to the customer. So they know, who is responsible for the messed up loads.

I wish for all workers here to wait somewer like i’am waiting already 10 h and all the worst thing in the world for this faking company, shame for you

What is that loud repeated sound that hasnt stopped since Monday? It sounds like sweeping sound I cant really describe. Point is: it hasnt stopped for days and its coming from this company. How inconsiderate is this? As a neighbor it is very annoying and my son has autism in which I am forced to play music semi loudly so that he doesnt focus on it too much.This sound has become a huge nuisance. Please someone make it stop.

I was picking up steel 2days ago at this place around 5 am, it was taking more time than usual to get my truck loaded that’s when I asked the Forman with the “white shirt” about my load, his answer was to get the F*** out of his face that if I want to leave to go ahead and leave. This was so outrageous and so unprofessional for a Forman, this place has very poor management. I found out later on that this guy was drunk. Very very poor management....Central Steel Chicago has a very POOR management in their warehouse. The warehouse facilities are trashy and dirty,. Employers are very sloppy packing and loading the materials. They dont care to send rusty or damaged material to the customers. The Central Steel triple check quality is a joke, warehouse management have poor judgment and no experience in quality control. VERY POOR MANAGEMENT.People working overtime chat to each other more than work. They have groups of eight workers just to bundle one skid. Orders are never filled on time. Always have to wait two to three hours for a skid to finish loading my truck. The so called supervisors just walk around chatting with people and doing nothing, the other supervisors just sit inside the office watching and chatting, specially on the third shift, they dont care about production, they just care about the easy money theyre making at Central Steel.

Dont bother calling their inside sales group is not friendly or very helpful. I actually tried to send them a picture and was told they could not help I had to have the exact thickness of the metal i was working for and the actual application in which it was being used. before I was able to go any further and explain that the picture had the actual use and that the thickness on the wire management, was dismissed. I dont belive they are interested in selling their supllies. Go somewhere else!

Worst company I was, 1st time I had a pick up, 2nd was a delivery . checked in at 7:30pm with only 2 trucks in front of me at the same bay, left at 6:45am next day(11h), they dont care about drivers, waste of time. Avoid this place please.

If you’re have pick up load from here, you lose!!! Spend here half of the day to get load! After check in, drivers have to wait on parking lot for fee hours till someone get you inside, than when you’re inside they have something like 30 minutes break every hour, or so..
