Great neighborhood hardware store! So happy they are here. Owner is helpful & knowledgeable & luckily had the old tub fittings I needed to complete my project. Saved me a trip to the dreaded Home Depot on North Ave where you can say goodbye to half of your day! Support local shops!

Ace is the place, for all your hard to find items, material.. When you rehab and maintain multiple units and the boss likes to keep everything old school, this is the place you want to go to get a part no one else has. Owner operated, always the same smiling faces, of course their covered by masks these days but same friendly faces any time you go there.

Theres a reason big box home improvement stores havent pushed out places like Gillman Ace Hardware. Al knows exactly what you need. From graphite spray for a sticky lock, terra cotta pots, swivel plant hooks, the BEST precision key cutting, paint, hardware, they have it all. So if you want to feel like youve just spoken to a kindly father figure who knows about every product they have, come here. Picture are from my haul from today. :)

You know those shops that feel like home? That feel like a shred of the America we all need and treasure? That is this Ace Hardware. Need to know the type of screw to hold your barely hanging on by a thread ikea dresser together? They will advise you. Need paint? Batteries? Dish soap? Buying a new toilet? Fixing an old toilet? They have you covered and will guide you with enthusiasm and honesty. I will do everything in my being to keep this store in business.

Fantastic place to have to pickup anything you don’t need to go to a big box store for. Need a weird screw? Ask the opener at the desk and he’ll walk you to it, you’ll be out in two minutes. Perfect hardware store.

This is such a great neighborhood store. It has most of what you need for living in the city. The staff is very friendly and incredibly helpful.

I love this place. Though Ace Hardware itself is technically a chain, the store is definitely more local/family-owned and I prefer to come here over bigger box stores. The owner is really helpful and knowledgeable, knows exactly where everything is, and wont upsell you - hell show you your options and let you know when the more affordable option works just as well for your needs.

If you like a store that has clerks who will go out of their way to help you find the most obscure hardware item you may need (I needed a very small screw) Hillman Ace Hardware is your spot. The friendly guy who helped me really made my day! I felt like he deserved a tip because of his genial service.

Big box chains might have an infitine selection, but youll most likely find what you need here. Had a small project that I asked about supplies for and ended up getting advice on a smarter way to tackle the problem. Pretty much the ideal small business experience! They dont have 800 different brands of screwdrivers, and some things may very well be slightly more expensive, but sometimes its worth paying just a little bit extra for the expertise, the friendliness, and the confidence in knowing that youre keeping your money local.Places like these are still carrying around that spirit of an older Chicago, back when every bar was a neighborhood dive, parking lots werent really all that common, and people didnt have to go out of their way to avoid a national chain. If price is the biggest and only factor you care about, maybe youre someone that would prefer going to a chain store that looks indistinguishable from every other store in every other city. If you care about more than that, if you want to keep it local, if you prefer your Chicago to still show some character and uniqueness, then I would recommend this place.

Great little hardware store. Always friendly and knowledgeable. Its terrible that the City of Chicago eliminated car parking in front of these businesss in exchange for a bike path. Car parking and previous bike path coexisted just fine before. I hope the city at least gave them a business tax break. HAAAA

AL is of good sound mind but even more so, a great spirit. MOM and POP stores are the BEST.

Al and his team at Ace Hardware were great. I was coming off of a bad experience at Home Depot with a custom lock order first needing 3 weeks to ship and then ultimately being cancelled by Home Depot without notifying me until 3 days later that it was cancelled. I called Al at Ace and he was immediately helpful over the phone letting me know of a quick solution. I went in to the store where he was able to fulfill my order in 48 hours. I would highly recommend Al and this Ace Hardware!!

This family relic is a piece of hardware history. The staff are so friendly and the store has everything youd need in Chicago. Plus, you can order what they dont have for pickup or delivery.

Female employee was rude to me when I asked to pick-up order - the store was really disorganized as well. This is a dinosaur of a store that will be put out of business shortly. Man in store was nice though.

Despite what Google and their own website say, this store does not do blade sharpening. Guy at front desk couldn’t have been less helpful and treated me like I was crazy for coming in and requesting a service LISTED ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE. Showed no interest in remedying that.

Quaint little mom and pop type place in or near Logan Park. Have a good selection but your not going to find everything here, especially higher ticket items. Good for running in to find a nail, screw, or mounting bracket you forgot. Friendly staff.

Told me to come to come to the store so he could see the product I was trying to fix. Once I get there, he doesnt need to see the product but tells me to go into to an aisle and chose a replacement part. He was absolutely no help but baited me in to coming to the store.

Love businesses like these. Locally-owned. Met the owners son. Had a nice chat. Got my materials, no fuss, no muss, and on my way. Its a smaller storefront compared to the big chains, obviously, but you can get the same stuff and you feel good about supporting local chicago businesses. Will always come back here...

The staff there is wonderful!! I broke my car key that had a chip in and they were able to have me driving within an hour! The car dealer wanted $120 and with Ace I paid a little more than half..I am not a maintenance man but with their help I am now!! Thank you!

Best hardware store in Logan Square / Bucktown. They have pretty much all the hardware, paint, tools, electrical, bulbs, plumbing supplies youd need, plus you get expert help - and they can do glass and screen for windows, make your keys, etc. So much easier to go here than the big box stores. Chicago needs more businesses like Gilmans.

I got my keys cut here, and they worked great on the first try, which is more than I can say for the nightmare that is Home Depots key cutting service. It was also less expensive to boot, and the service was great.

This local hardware store is just so conveniently located (right by Bike Lane/ The Congress Theater) and awesome. Logan Sq might not have the best supermarkets, but at least we have a well stocked hardware store! Mr. Gillman (I guess thats his name?) is always in the store and always willing to help me find the right size screw or bolt. Hes also helped me brainstorm on home involvements for my many apartment projects and best of all, he cuts keys (which is always when youre in a pinch/ have guests in town). Not to mention, hes also a great conversationalist and (I think) has nice relationships with a lot of his regulars. Home Depot is fine for bigger trips involving a car, but Gillmans is ideal for stopping by on your bike to pick up one or two items that you totally need but always forget when you do the big HD trip. Thanks Mr. Gillman, youre the coolest!!

LOVE this ace! I dont know what a hardware store in small town USA in the 50s was like but, my BF is 69 ands says gillmans ace is just that. Amazing customer service. They remember our names and parts and products we bought. They ask after my family and if they dont have something I need, he will order it ie tell nw where to get it. If something you buy from him breaks unreasonably fast he will refund it. Gillmans ace is like a cousin or family friend owns a hardware store! One of the very few businesses that have been in the neighborhood for decades ands still remain. I cant say enough good things about Gillman.
