Went in to get my Les Paul setup and when I got home to play it I never heard it sound this good. It felt like I just bought a brand new guitar. I definitely recommend this shop. I will be taking my guitar here again in the future.
Nothing but good things to say about these guys. They do excellent work and stand by it if there are any issues. Matt and Tom are good humans!
Excellent service and setup. Highly recommend.
Excellent work, Tom had work on a few of my guitars and always deliver to my Expectation. Highly recommend and not to mention Reasonable pricing.
Love this place, good prices, knowledgeable and friendly staff, did a great job fixing my amp and restringing my guitar
I’ve been taking my guitars here for a long time, and always get amazing service and prices. If I could give them 6 stars, I would!!
Please support this business. They do great work!
I first brought him my Fender Strat to do some basic maintenance, Great Job! Then I brought my Charvel for maintenance and to replace pickups even Greater Job. They both sound Great!
Purchased a second hand guitar and needed to get it set up so I figured Id try a local shop. Tom got my guitar play ready with a full set up as well as a fret crown and polish. Price was reasonable and you get exactly whats detailed in the package you choose. Even though the frets were worked on no cleaning/polishing of the fret board or body of the guitar, which is included in most other set up packages at other shops. Overall I would come back as Tom was extremely friendly set my guitar up well.
Such a great and reliable place to take your instruments and amps. I have been going here for years and have found that its always the best service, the fastest turnaround, and the most reasonable prices. Thank you so much for bringing some life back to these old guitars!
I recently got my 20 year old guitar set up for the first time since I bought it. I found ths Shake Shop in my neighborhood and spoke with Tom on the phone. He quoted me a very reasonable price, was able to take the guitar in immediately and promised a 3 day turnaround.I was thrilled to get a call from Tom 2 days later telling me it was ready. My guitar plays better than I ever remember it. He thoroughly cleaned it, including the wiring and all internals. He fixed a crazy forward bow and perfected the intonation. He was super friendly and exceeded my expectations.I cant recommend this shop enough. A much larger chain store quoted me a much higher price and a longer turnaround. Ill be taking all my guitars in to this shop in the future.
The people here are very kind, informative, and professional. They take precaution during this pandemic and that is a good sign that they really do care about their customers.
I bought a used strat that has a bridge that is lifting up. I called a few places for a quote, shake shop quote was the most reasonable in the city. I called Tom, he was very friendly and answered all my questions. Then I took my guitar to the shop and met Tom, he made me feel right at home and promised a 3 day tun around which was shorter than everybody I called. On the promised date, I recieved a call that my guitar was ready. The cleaning was neat and the set up was to my satisfaction. Planning to bring my other 2 guitars for a set up soon.
I brought my new (to me) guitar here to be set up due to some buzzing at the bridge. I couldnt be happier with the result and friendly, knowledgeable service.
Matt took great care of my vintage Marshall very thorough so yourself a favor if you have vintage equipment and you’ll be happy you left it to the pros very quick service and best quote I received in Chicago !
Tom and Matt do great work. Best repair shop in the city
Tom has been working on my Guitars for 3 years now. Tom has always kept his integrity and quality craftsmanship. You need your guitars work on give Tom the opportunity you wont be disappointed. Tom has an awesome shop that is always clean an organized.
I had a headless bass it was all beat up and he revived the guitar bass great place
I ended up going here by recommendation and so happy I did. Tom knocked it out of the park with my two beloved Gibsons. He not only listened to me with what I thought was an issue, but was also able to identify other adjustments that needed to be made. Will absolutely be back next time I need a set up or any type of repair. Shake Shop, and Tom, are the best around and you should feel 100% about any service they offer. Support this business.
Great guys! They really know their stuff and do a great job. Theres no down time. They have it ready before the due date. Very happy and will back. Prices are fair.
Tom does a great job setting up my basses. Fair price and quick turn. He also did some electrical work on my Marcus Miller active jazz bass. He took out the active and reworked the switch so I have more pick up variations. It turned out great and the bass I was about to sell is now my favorite.
Tom and his staff are very knowledgeable when it comes to instruments. They has always done quality work and always kept up with there word. Thank you guys!
Very pleased! Friendly and professional - excellent work, price, and turnaround time. Needed some fretwork done, and decided on this shop because the reviews were so stellar. There’s a reason for that. Thanks, guys!
Wonderful, laid-back experience. Tom is a gentleman, who you can definitely trust with your baby. Hes a great listener and will deliver with extremely satisfying results. My acoustic was set up directly from the manufacturer, and I kept experiencing fret buzz because the action was so out-of-whack. I called up the Shake Shop and could tell right off the bat, this guy actually cared. I had no faith taking my beloved guitar to the Guitar Center and having some know-it-all, paid-by-the-hour hack restring it and tell me everything if fine. $50 and an hour later, Tom had the bridge filed correctly, truss-rod tweaked, the nut adjusted, and restrung with the exact set of strings I had asked for. When I arrived to pick it up, he went over exactly what he had done, and other minor adjustments that I hadnt even accounted for.Overall, I honestly think Tom is one of the most experienced repairman Ive come across in my 10 years of playing. I can definitely say I will be returning to have my other guitars set up by a guy who knows what hes doing and cares as much as I do about my instruments.
I visited this shop two days in a row and both experiences were great! Tom, the gentleman who serviced two of my guitars, was as pleasant as could be and did really efficient, high quality work in very little time. Additionally, the price was more than fair.I will most definitely return here for any future guitar repairs, setups, etc. and would highly recommend it for anyone with the same needs. All around fantastic guitar repair shop!
I cant say enough great things about Shake Shop. Ive had Tom take care of everything from faulty input jacks to set-ups to installing new pick-ups and tuners.I travel quite a bit with 3 touring bands and Im frequently only in town for a day or two at a time. Tom has always been able to quickly address any technical issues Ive had with my guitars and bass (2 Reverends, a Gibson SG, and a Fender P Bass), and hes often taken time out of his schedule to work on my instruments while I waited. The prices for Shake Shops services are the most reasonable Ive seen in Chicago. Ive been extremely happy with Tom and the Shake Shop team and Im sure Ill be working with them for years to come!
Every time I take a guitar in to get it set up here, its like Im getting a brand new guitar. They do amazing set up work. Honestly the best in the city, and with a price thats pretty much unbeatable. Highly recommend them.
The shake shop is the place to go for your guitar and amplifier repair needs. Tom definitely knows what he is doing, and will get it done fast. They also sell picks, tuners, and other things like that. Overall, a great little shop.
Just had a few guitars tuned up here. Awesome service, friendly staff. Highly recommend. Will be coming back!
Great place to get your amp fixed
Reasonably priced and high-quality work. Both dudes are super friendly and Matt took the time to explain a bunch of stuff about my amp and didnt try to sell me on unnecessary work. Highest recommendation.
Really great staff. Matt fixed a couple of my pedals in no time at all. Very affordable and great expertise. Highly recommended. Do not go anywhere else!
My band and I take our instruments here. Weve brought our acoustic, electric, and bass guitars. We have also brought our pedal boards, pedals, and amps here.Every single time, weve had the best experience with Tom and the folks at Shake Shop. They are incredible people and have a realistic, and fast, turn around time.
Tom is the man. Hes very knowledgeable and a really nice guy. I bring all my guitars to him and I havent been disappointed yet. Hes also the most reasonably price person Ive found in Chicago. Hes also extremely quick.
Great place to get your amp fixed.
Tom is a super nice guy and did great set-up on my acoustic...it plays like a dream. As a Logan Square resident, this happens to be the closest repair shop to my house, but its worth a trip from farther away too. When you find a guy who repairs a guitar like its HIS guitar, you stick with him.
Tom is the best, and I will likely never trust my instruments to another person. You could not go to another place in the city that would treat you better.
Tom is awesome. Prices are fair, his work is fast and flawless.
I took my amp in to get repairs, and Matt took care of it. This is the best place to get your amp fixed without a doubt.
Tom is awesome, great work setting up my bass. And he always helps me with advice on projects I want to tackle on my own.
Super nice guys. They do good and prompt work.
Probably the friendliest, most honest and reasonable repair shop Ive ever visited. First time I went, my amp had blown a fuse. Matt replaced it right in front of me and had it ready to go in 10 minutes, but it sounded off. He replaced a nearly-burned-out tube but it still wasnt sounding right. So he kept it, got it totally fixed in a week and then spent nearly 20 minutes explaining step by step exactly what he had done, how I could do it myself, and online DIY repair resources to check out.Second time I went I brought my 69 Hofner 12 string acoustic that has intonation problems. Tom took a look at it right away, did a few tests and told me that due to the construction, the whole bridge would have to be moved and it would likely cost more to fix than the guitar was worth. Have never felt more immediately respected and taken seriously than in this shop. I can do my own basic setups and dont have too many issues with my instruments, but as far as repairs go, Ill never take my gear anywhere else as long as theyre open.
Great shop!
Probably the friendliest and most accommodating guitar shop in Chicago. Tom and this shop are a great resource for musicians in the city.
Tom is excellent— starting bringing my instruments here in 2015 and haven’t gone elsewhere since
Amazing work. Great service!!I’ll vouch for Tom any day!
Man. Back in July, I accidentally busted my peg while tuning when I first got it. the first day and I played around with the saddle and stuff to see if it was the problem(note I knew nothing and didnt know the peg broke). I eventually decided to go to a shop, and came here. I changed my strings, and asked for it to be tuned, and they gave me a very fair price like about 10-15 dollars, and then he told me my peg was busted, and he replaced it and fixed the issue and fixed my nut. They asked for me to play something and I stood there like an idiot because I was new LOL. Very reasonable people and fun people. They even gave me a new pick. Recommended!
Really nice staff and a very welcoming vibe. Good for a quick drop off and a nice chat
Tom and Matt from Shake Shop are super friendly and have the time to help you with your gear. Super fast turnarounds and the best prices in town!
They do good work I had a guitar that it was all beat up and it looks like brand new they saved it
I have Gotten a few, pickup installations, bridges put and and basses set up here. Tom does top notch work and his prices are fair.
Great shop, set up my strat at a great rate in just a few hours.
Very friendly staff, and fast, reliable tube amp repair.
Fair prices and great setup/repair for instruments.
Can’t recommend this place highly enough for maintenance and repairs.
The only place I would ever want to take my guitar or amp. Friendly, no snobbery, the best prices, honest, and fast.
Very reasonable Kind Aims to please
