I loved this place! If youre a guitar player you have to check it out. They also have basses, some ukes and mandolins, a ton of amps, some vintage keyboards and synths and a good amount of pro audio gear (eqs, compressors, preamps). The prices are great and theres a good mix of used gear at different price points

Their gear and prices are good. I saw a few used Les Pauls going for good prices. I also saw a Rockerverb and a Dual Rectifier. However, their store needs to be renovated and their website needs more detail. There is barely anything on their web site. It is time to upgrade. I could have saved a trip, if it had its inventoey online. I would give it five stars, if it was renovated and had a more detailed web site.

This has been one of Chicagos finest outlets for used instruments for years. Ive happily recommended it to many other musicians and never heard of anyone having a negative experience. The proprietor, Wayne, is committed to selling collector-quality gear at player-friendly prices. Thus, while collectors sometimes go to other boutique-oriented stores, working players go to Midwest. Ive bought gear there and recommend it highly.

A good mix of odd used guitars / gear and bizarre service. The prices are better than average. Although they know what they have and what its worth, the gear isnt generally in pristine condition. This may keep the prices and negotiations simpler. Far enough away from the Guitar Center experience to really make it worth the drive from central Chicago.

Great guys running a Legitimate guitar shop. Let me wonder around with my neck cranked back to take in all the guitars and basses that are hanging all around the building. so many great vintage tube amps, you could spend days playing though all the amps to find your hidden gem. I eventually settled on a Epiphone Sheraton after playing around with a Gretsch and a telecaster. Never felt pressured or rushed and, they threw in a soft case and strap, even knocked a little off the price. Ill be back, would rather spend my money here, beats the hell out of guitar center

Best mid-sized guitar store in chicago. and ive been to a lot of them in 20 yrs of playing.ive bought mostly intermediate and entry level gear here and the prices are always fair. selection is OUTSTANDING for the size of the place.they do have an outstanding selection of high end vintage instruments and tube amps as others have said. great place for strats, les pauls, and rickenbackers. they also usually have a few less known classics like hagstroms, danelectro/silvertones, etc.also they always have funky vintage mics--PA mics, old army mics, that kind of thing. super fun stuff to experiment with.

This used to be my favorite spot. I bought a Riviera there a few months ago, a G&L ASAT about a year before that and a 70s Twin Reverb there a couple years ago. Loved the place, cool down to earth rock and roller types who dont mind stopping in back for a smoke. They actually MOVE gear too, it wont be the same pieces every time you drop in! Now, Im the type of guy who almost has his mind made up before stepping in the door so I just stop by for a few minutes specifically to buy something with cash in hand, not a tire kickin small talker, perfect customer, right?Well, not anymore, not after what happened today.I went in two days ago and found a synthesizer (cz3000) and made up my mind to buy it. But, I figured Id see what theyd give me on a trade in for a nice keyboard I dont use (Roland D50) and asked. One of the fellas said yeah, we used to sell those used for 4 to six hundred but you have to come back Monday when the owner is hereCool, so I extend my rental car one more day, grab a few hundred bucks out of the ATM so I can buy the Casio even if they dont want the D50, and make the trek up from West Town. I walk in, the same fella points me towards the owner. He says are you looking to sell? I dont really do these keyboards anymore ...even though theres about 10 in the store. I say well maybe a trade in or cash He instructs me to put the keyboard on an amp to show him then says, naturally, How much you looking for ...well, its 2015 and the only way to gauge market value of synths is eBay so I casually said um, they go for 4 to 600 on eBay expecting to reply with the standard I can only sell it for such and such low ball offer, which would have been okay with me cause I liked the place. His response: I dont want to even look at it, get it out of here walks away and yells I wont give you ten ****ing dollars then continues Im ****ing sick of this eBay ****.I didnt ask for that, didnt even commit to selling, I really just wanted the Casio at the slightly high price they had on it so I wouldnt have to risk craigslist or shipping damages from buying online. So I just picked up my heavy D50 and walked out without playing his juvenile whos the bigger man type of game. Im upset I always recommended this place all my musician buddies but oh well, it is what it is.
