This place is great for lunch. A little pricey, but the selection is perfect if you want both healthy and delicious. A lot if times there will be a line, but it moves surprisingly fast. Convenient location on Damen.
Great wrap. Downside - do not take cash and expensive
I was excited to go to this place and order a carry out. I ordered the green goddess garden wrap and potato salad on the side. The person that I ordered from knew I was deaf as I asked for pen and paper. The wrap was delicious and portion size very filling, they gave me tuna salad instead of potato salad. Rice Krispy treats are good portion size. Overall it will be a place I will go back too. I’m still scratching my head about the tuna salad?
I’m in love with this place I got some awesome Fig jam from here, the brisket sandwich is delicious and the coffee is as well. Customer service is wonderful
Love their salad bar and sandwiches! Great cold brew coffee and unique grocery items.
This is a great place for cool breakfasts and lunches carry out for us. I been there scores of times through the years and its been cool looking, clean, fast enough, correct, fresh, fantastic. Every time.
Nice yummy hummus, but the other dishes have way too much salt
The food was absolutely delicious and the staff was incredibly kind. I cant wait to go back! Everything there is amazing.
Yesss the wraps are so yummy
Expensive and not tasty. Disappointing experience
Were very thankful for the delicious Thanksgiving dinner for two option from Goddess and Grocer. It gave us a yummy meal to look forward to (without the worry of *too* many leftovers) during our first holiday spent away from family due to the pandemic. Appreciate you all!
A beautiful medley of homeware & grocery necessities. Covid Safe (masked & no pets, still no indoor dining until more folks are vaccinated) The counter folk are bright & helpful, while the quality of the food/beverage is top notch. A lovely oasis for anyone needing a last minute something or a quick meal!
We ordered the Thanksgiving meal from them with extras and were not disappointed. We had a mix-up with our order but G&tG came through for us and delivered our complete order right to us. Incredible service, delicious food, and a great experience even despite a hiccup. Thanks, Goddess, you made our Thanksgiving worry-free!
Went here to grab lunch. Was a fairly odd experience. There were mag 4 customers in the store and 5 employees. Only one of the employees while the others were talking or on their phones. Orders were taking long to fill, and the people ahead of me had said it took 10 min to get a coffee (again, weird as there were limited people shopping and what seemed like a bored staff).Food was good, but the experience was extremely odd.
The way they packaged my order to be delivered was absolutely disgusting. My fries were basically spilling out of the bag onto the pavement when dropped off. They also forgot my coffee. Most places I order from even have the food sealed.
Two sandwiches in two days and both delicious! The waitness / barista customized my beverage to my requests perfectly.
Gave me the wrong order and never refunded me
I wonder if this trans has learned to use salt yet.No.One of the worst, foodie spots, ever. City residents are thankful to write you off by walking in the door, as it narrows time wasted by real people.Do yourself a favor, upgrade by going to a gas station subway... far more skilled than slizz.
One of the best of the chain at this location. Great premade selection. Just a fantastic tuna sandwich. Breakfast is great on the go too. Its like if a Panera evolved like a Pokemon into its final form. The extra seating upstairs is nice benefit too.
Pop by every now and then for a sandwich during the lunch hour. Never disappoints. Staff is friendly, but can be slow at times. Not the cheapest place, but a friendly staff will always keep me coming back.
Delivery order was wrong and they seemingly had no way of fixing it. guy was rude and unhelpful.
$15 pickup order minimum is a FAST way to choose another local spot. Thanks for making that an easy choice!
Extremely rude staff. Spent $46 on a couple of salads (overpriced) and then when I asked to use the bathroom the cashier waved me off and told me I needed to go somewhere else.
Enjoyed the rainbow cake; not too sweet and just right. Cant wait to try some more from this spot.
The food is super tasty! The cafe products are very delicious.
Clean, fast service. Good selection of prepared foods and curated groceries.
Great original sandwiches. Sat outside with the Dog
I have used their catering services and my guests rave about the food. Chili, Meat Lasagne and Thanksgiving dinner. The topic at the table is always who is this Goddess. Thank you!
Terrific fresh friendly resource in Chicago. Great wine and beverage selection along with an extensive salad bar. Plus easy take away sandwiches, soups, salads, ice cream, coffee.....everything.
Enjoyable, just wish portions were bigger.
The quality of the food and drinks here are very good.
THE urban place for snack, dessert, lunch, donut, dinner, or other whole meal take out. THEY EVEN HAVE TAKE OUT COCKTAILS!
Fabulous selection of foods to go
Great store with tons of food options! The prices are a little high but worth it. The Carrot Cake was so fresh and tasty!
Not gonna lie, the thanksgiving dinner in a thick cardboard box was a first. The meal was tiny and not fresh. Overpriced and would not come here again.
Delicious food. Theyve got fresh sandwiches and food that is cooked and cooled. They can heat it up for you or you can take it home cold. Theyve also got a nice dining area upstairs. Highly recommend the spinach lasagna and the maple bacon breakfast sandwich.
Food was great, but some of the service could have been better
I was looking for a good study spot and found the place. Plenty of space, fast WiFi, amazing food and coffee. It has become my go to spot.
Edit: In the time since writing this review, Goddess and Grocer’s really stepped up their variety and quality of specials! While they still have a wait problem depending on when you go and how busy they are, they’ve certainly focused on improving the quality of their food and inventiveness of menu selections.Food used to be less consistent—a standard menu sandwich you get one day may have be radically different the next, depending on who was making the food. Now? Far more consistent.Staff’s improved, too, but there’s still significant variability in quality of service.———Original review:Average food sold for well above-average prices. If you’re in a rush, don’t get something that requires them to make or prepare it—something as simple as a toasted bagel make take anywhere from ten to twenty-five minutes depending on the staff working.Service varies wildly based on who is working. In my five years in the neighborhood, I’ve noticed an extremely high staff turnover rate.
Great store with tons of food options! The prices are a little high but worth it. The Carrot Cake was so fresh and tasty!
The location is super convenient from where we live, which is why Im a frequent customer there. There are lots of good snakes and options for lunch, but the service is not excellent.
I absolutely love Goddess and Grocer! The food is delicious and the customer service is always super friendly. I have a problem though because all I ever order is the matzo ball soup. I have tried other things from friends plates (sorry guys), but I cant go here and NOT order the soup! Its probably the best matzo Ive ever had! Definitely recommend this to anyone that wants a quick, cheap, and delicious meal.
Great food and ambient. If you are not in a rush, take advantage of the seating on the second floor ! I also love the fact that I am able to order ahead on Ritual and have the food ready when I am in a rush/stopping for a lunch break. Highly recommend if in area.
The chicken tortilla soup is amazing. Its only served one day a week. When they run out, they are out for the day. Ive been known to taken an extra soup home.Youll like the sandwiches and deli items also.If you are dining in they have a great beer selection. During the summer there is a great outdoor patio upstairs.Great place for a quick bite.
I really love the Goddess and Grocer. I was impressed even before they moved to their new location across the street from their last one. Now with a rooftop deck!! All the food is super good and the beer selection isnt too bad, but watch out for those prices. Lunch at the Goddess and Grocer will be super tasty, but it will add up quickly if you have some beers along with your sandwiches. Overall, a great place!
Such a diversity in products. Matching bodega vibes
Check out system was more complicated than it needed to be
Great food here. Right up along Damen ave not far from Damen Blue line, its very accessible. Patio up front is great when the temperature cooperates. Staff is really friendly. Its a tad pricey, but the quality is there. Sort of like a little market, too, if youre nearby and want to fill up the fridge.
Great store with tons of food options! The prices are a little high but worth it. The Carrot Cake was so fresh and tasty!
Good place to pick up a sandwich or light bite and a coffee as you stroll along Damen. Im not sure if the staff are used to customers being polite to them! I was commended on trying to queue and also saying please and thanks very much.
Great concept. I can get a hot bowl of soup, a deli sandwich, premade pastas/grains/salads/proteins (chilled or hot), any specialty coffee or tea, beer/wine, a package of gourmet cheese/salumi/prosciutto, juice, energy drinks, Jennys ice cream, etc., etc. Order at the counter, go upstairs with your number and wait for them to drop it off. There isnt table service, so its very informal. There is both inside and outside space to sit. Their patio is one of my favorites. Between 4-7 in the summer months, the sun is going down and shines right on your face since youre on the second floor. That is exactly my lunch time, so Ive enjoyed many meals up there. They have 2 of my favorite sandwiches in the city as well. The chicken sandwich and the veggie wrap are killer.
I was looking for a good study spot and found the place. Plenty of space, fast wifi, amazing food and coffee. It has become my go to spot.
Goddess and Grocer is part-deli, part upstairs coffee shop, part takeout food spot. They have fridges with ready-to-go meals, alcohol, and non-alcoholic drinks. They have some classic deli foods like matzo ball soups and sandwiches that they can prepare for you.Sometimes Ill pop in and grab a sandwich and soup, and sometimes Ill buy a coffee and work upstairs for a couple hours. Theres something for everyone here.
Pretty busy most of the day. The salad bar is great and the desserts are awesome. The set up in there is awful when its time to checkout. No real way to stand in line and huge strollers everywhere. The space isnt wide enough or needs a different set up.
I wasn’t happy with the service I received today the one that says I’m not worthy of eating here. I placed my order at 1:50 pm and waited until 1:15 25min wait still no Grilled Chicken Club for me while all along people came in left bad service after one employee gave another guest their order and telling me mines would be out shortly ridiculous still didnt come. I could say so much more butI know my worth so refund me my money and keep yall sandwich and chip#blacklivesdontmatter 😂
Grocery, coffee shop, and a restaurant in one, this is where you go to buy (expensive) specialty items, such as teas, chocolates, or spices. The restaurant offering is standard lunch fare consisting of sandwiches and salads. The veggie panini and pulled pork sandwiches were both tasty.Typical for this area, prices are higher than expected. However, on a nice sunny day, grab a sandwich and make your way upstairs and sit outside and enjoy people watching. Location is excellent.
Turkey pot pie was excellent and everything else looked fresh and well made. Seemed to have a nice selection of upscale items from beer to cheese flights to cold brew. Hard to beat this stretch of Damen for great eating
I was really excited to come here as I wanted to try the incredible rainbow cake, but when I got there, they do not have the rainbow cake. We ordered 2 sandwiches to go which are literally sandwiches alone with no sides for $9-11 (overpriced) and FOUND A BIG LONG HAIR IN THE BRISKET SANDWICH!!!!!!! Wont be coming back.
I absolutely love this place! So much space to work and you can basically find anything in your budget here. Also friendly and helpful staff!
Cool, cozy place to pop open your laptop and get some work done when you need to get out of the office or the house, along with a nice roof deck to take advantage of when weather is nice. They dont serve alcohol as part of their menu, but you can buy a 6 pack or a bottle of wine from the cooler and enjoy it on premise if youve got the itch. Only dig on this place is that service can be a bit slow, even outside of lunch and dinner rush periods
The owner of this chain is anti-LGBT, specifically anti-transgender, so boycott it please. Also, the food they cook is made with cheap ingredients. I can make food just as good or better on my own. They overcharge for everything the sell too. Seriously, you can do better. Go somewhere else and get a better deal.
The new store is wonderful! Clean, bright, well-staffed! I attended a luncheon here recently with lots of people and we could not have been happier with the service or the quality of the food and cleanliness of the place. The upstairs dining area is a nice treat, especially if you sit outdoors on a sunny day!
The upstairs patio is beautiful! Casual place for brunch everyday! Bring your mom or best friend or coworker or kids or nieces or anyone who loves a good salad.
I was looking for a good study spot and found the place. Plenty of space, fast wifi, amazing food and coffee. It has become my go to spot.
Light and contemporary decor with quality goods. Good for grab-n-go or a quick sit-down meal. Very underwhelmed by the quantity of key ingredients on their sandwiches.
I had an absolutely amazing iced coffee there this morning. Lots of vegan options, with 3 different types of non-dairy milk! The food looked awesome, and the selection of juices was really great. I loved it!
The Goddess and Grocer never fails to provide yummy, mouth-watering sandwiches for a reasonable price. Although their vegetarian selection is limited, especially in the sandwich department, I feel as though each creation is unique and inspired by fresh foods. In addition, the staff has always been attentive and welcoming despite the small size of the store and eating area.
One of our most favorite places to go in the Chicago area. Their deli is so eclectic and good.
Good location. Great fresh foods. Friendly service. What more you want?It is conveniently located close to everything in the neighborhood so after shopping stop by at this cafe for lunch or light food during evening.Lots of vegetarian options. Includes organic ice cream and other products sold there.
March 10, 2020...I erased todays review. I am angry at being abandoned by my server to help a customer behind me. I was angry for having my feet swept, my cake slices cut by the dirty handed sweeper, and the audacity of being (asked then not believed) accused of not paying, even though my recopy was right on his side of the register. I felt the negativity of racism slapping me in the face. Terrible experience today. The dessert is still great (I buy a slice every week), though todays cake slices...$adly, went to the trash.Jan 2020-The service was meh...though the chicken and tuna salads were both good. The $7 cake slices were beautiful and filled that fat lady desire for a decadent de$$ert. My toddlers loved the rainbow cake, though the post poop-apocalypse was more interesting than that crayon fiasco. I digress...GO...you wont be disappointed.
Best grocery store! Try the shops inside.Bakery is wonderful and customer service is the best.
A good spot for fresh, healthy salads and sandwiches and good in a pinch for a bottle of chilled wine or hostess gift. Yes, its a bit pricey but the store across the street sells $100 yoga pants so what did you expect? The seating area is small and communal so Id recommend getting it to go.
Good spot to grab a quick lunch if youre out running errands near Wicker Park. Solid, tasty options although you might struggle a bit to weave your way around the strollers and Saturday lunch crowd. Decent wine selection if youre in a pinch and need to pick something up, but the markup is steeper than other places around the city.
Upscale. Very good high quality. Please like this rating of you agree.
Love the market feel of this place. They have a great lunch selection and you can even pick up a bottle of wine for later. The Buffalo Chicken wrap is the best thing on the menu!
The salad bar here is my go to. Soups are good as well. And the bakery items to dieeee for!!
Its pretty good. I like the balcony dining area upstairs. There are no outlets for phone chargers downstairs
This place has special that change every week. They have a neat selection of beer, cheese, and ice cream. They also have a rainbow cake that I always want to try. Do get the smoked brisket or the buffalo chicken wrap. Delicious.
I dont think the food here is good, and the way it is run feels disorganized. However, they sell beer and it is a great place to have a drink if you dont want to be in a crowded, loud bar, or if youd like to use your laptop (the free with-fi is fast).
Clean place with decent food. I think it is pretty pricey for what youre getting as counter service. Staff is great, and usually accurate in the kitchen.
Killer sandwhices. They now have a very nice seating area that I dont remember being there. Also great in the summer time when they have their outdoor seating available. Excellent corner to people watch sipping intelligentsia coffee.
Friendly staff, great food, and really nice selection! I never fail to recommend.
Low key lunch spot. Roof top seating
Love this place. Tasty food, pretty quick.
Im a frequent visitor to Chicago from St. Louis, and it seems like every visit includes a trip to Goddess! My grandchildren & their parents used to live in the Bucktown neighborhood, and even when they moved to Roscoe Village, Goddess is still their go-to shop for snacks, take-home meals AND eat-in meals! I was a visitor to their old shop, and as much as I loved that, the new shop and its upstairs eating area are fantastic !
Disclaimer- all I had were the mini cupcakes. But they were so good they prompted me to write a review :)So I had the red velvet and the chocolate. Being a being of a small appetite, the mini cupcakes were large enough for me, and I must say the red velvet cupcake has a new fan. It is super delish. The chocolate cupcake is more for chocolate addicts - heavy and decadent.I also like the location of this place- close to the damen blue line with a bunch of cute boutique stores around.
Maple bacon breakfast sandwich was to die for! Love the outdoor seating balcony upstairs. Huge indoor seating up there too if the weathers not cooperating.
Excellent food, especially the egg salad sandwich. Though the prices are high, I usually stop in about once every month or every other month because the food tastes really good. They also carry Boylans red birch beer which is one of my favorites :)
