I just started to teach myself how to sew and this was the first fabric store I have ever visited. The owner was so so so kind to me! The selection of fabrics was great, the store is located conveniently in the loop so there is easy access, and prices were very reasonable for someone who is just starting out. This is a fabric store for those who know what they are doing. BUT beginner mask makers are totally welcome and the owner is really helpful in helping you pick materials you’ll need. He’s also nice to talk to!If you’re looking for wide open aisles and brisk air conditioning in the summer, this is not your place. However, I think it adds to the magic of finding that perfect material for your next project. There is a plethora of cool fabric here. He also has superior elastic for masks too. I’ve been hard pressed to find elastic as good as that, and in black anywhere else. SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES. this fabric shop will help you take your mask and clothing making to the NEXT LEVEL.

Ive always found some great fabric gems in this place (today it was some TMNT fabric for masks)! They are open during quarantine, but there should really only be one person allowed in at a time as there is quite literally no way to be more than about 2 feet apart from someone else in this place when he lets each customer out after they make their purchase. I would urge caution if youre going there during quarantine because it feels a little unsafe being so close to so many people at this time (even where everyone is doing their best to try to get out of the way of others) because there is no place to go.

Lots of fabric, but very difficult to shop. Disorganized, fabric piled all over the place. Nice owner. HE knows where everything is. I wasnt able to browse because it was too messy. Ill go back! 🦋

Buddie has a great sense of humor, knows the merchandise very well, and was very helpful. I purchased very nice kente cloth at a reasonable price. If I am in Chicago again, I would definitely return.

I first called and spoke to Todd before I headed out to downtown, as I am from out of town. Todd was extremely helpful on the phone with regards to my concerns on a fabric. He is knowledge and has a lot of experience. Congrats on such great customer service..

I love this store. I wish we had more of stores like this in Chicago. The owner is nice and I love his sense of humor. Id rather go through these piles of fabric, than pay extra for a more neat display.

Buddie is a legend. I dont know how he remembers where everything is but he always finds what I need and makes sure to check if Im forgetting anything. Ive been shopping with him since my first project in high school and Ill happily continue.

The owner was helpful, honest, and knowledgable. He recommended a cheaper item than the one I’d set out to buy, because the cheaper one was more suited to my project, which I appreciated. He had quite a selection of fabric in the small space and easily navigated the space to find what I needed.

Reading all the reviews, I am surprised to learn that Chicago Fabric Yarn & Button Sales is among the best local fabric stores in the East Bay and even Bay Area. What I can say from my own direct experience is that the customer service here is awesome.

I love coming to this store. The people are very nice and I always find something new I had not seen here before.

This place was a total mess but he seems to know where everything is. He convinced me to buy this very thick thread because I apparently needed it to be heavy duty. Its too thick for my fabric (or machine, Im not entire sure. All I know is it started making very loud punching noises). I have to buy new thread. Although he was very nice, and the place would probably be fine for a more experienced person, I wont be shopping here again.

Huge selection. Fabrics I hadnt seen anywhere else, but very crowded. You are tripping over things or bumping into things consistently. The humor of the shop attendant did a lot to distract you from your surroundings though.

Love this place you can find real treasures there, and the man in the desk is such a classy but with the best sense of humor

Guy seemed nice but Shorted me, on my order and would not even work with me to fix the issue. Bad business owner!!! Nice guy but a horrible person. If you must use this guy make him measure twice. I will never recommend or use this business again!

This tiny storefront is stuffed to the ceiling with a variety of fabrics. Reasonable prices and the proprietor was patient with questions and small quantity purchase. It can be a bit hard to navigate, especially if there are other customers trying to squeeze down the narrow aisles at the same time.

Charming store, great service, some digging required, but I don’t believe that’s a bad thing at all. Congrats on 90 years!

Unearned boasting and very pretentious. Had a poor selection of what I was looking for and when asked if he had recommendations for where to goin the area, he claimed to have the largest selection in the nation of that particular kind of fabric (Fabric Factory Outlet has more, went there this morning).

Great selection, knowledgeable help and found some wonderful things that I just had to have. Fabric stores like this are not around where I live so this was a great find.

Found just what I needed and there was plenty of selection for my purposes! Convenient having a spot like this close to work. Customer service was extremely helpful, I will be back!

I got a living social deal for this place and while sometime people treat coupon customers like an underclass citizen, Chicago Fabric Yarn & Button Sales treated me like a normal customer with respect and appreciation. I have been back 2 times since using the deal and I am never disappointed.

This place is full of fabric. Literally filled. Prices were reasonable and the clerk was very helpful.

Why is this shop never open at normal times? I planned a visit and arrived 10 minutes before opening, but I was dark again.

Store was a complete mess, the man at the front desk was incredibly rude and said he could offer me no help because I didnt have the original package for the thread I was looking for and made a joke(?) about me being intoxicated so early in the day when I accidentally knocked over a spool of thread that was sitting on top of a pile of miscellaneous fabrics/zippers/yarn.

Never saw such a crowded store and what a mess. Wont ever refer that store to anyone. Also notice on trim bolts and ribbons that prices were marked up and old price still on bolt. Not a shopable store.
