We got 4 and it weighed almost 5 lbs.Update: For fun we weighted our apple fritters and we are shocked, they weighted only .77 ounces, much less than a pound…WTH?The building and the interior is really old school, you could easily drive right by it if not paying attention. I suggest you come early or expect to wait in line.This is a neighborhood shop, it’s the real thing, the good, the bad and the ugly. This is authentic.

This place has definitely changed, and not for the better. Some of our donuts were overcooked & others were half cooked. I wonder if its under new ownership.

I love this place. They have great donuts. My only concern was the order takers didnt change their gloves in between customers. You pick the donuts of your choice and they place them in the box...with gloves on. They then ring up your order and while waiting I noticed many customers in front of me paid with cash. So they counting cash with the same glove they used to get the donuts off the trays. Then assist the next customer with the same gloves on.

Apple fritter as big as your face and possibly the most delicious thing I’ve eaten. Not sure how but it gets more scrumptious the more you eat. If they’re out, wait for the next batch and eat warm. It’s amazing.

Will NOT return to this location. I purchased 6 doughnuts that were all “crammed” into one bag separated by tissue paper. By the time you reach your destination, the frosting on the doughnuts are melted off and mainly attached to the bag and tissue. That’s the best part of the doughnut. The Doughnuts need to be in a box where they are not sitting on top of each other. If the owner would get smaller boxes and use them on smaller orders, that would preserve the frosting. Since he/she/they don’t want to, I’ll just go elsewhere.

This place looks dilapidated; It’s definitely in need of remodeling. And I usually could get past that but this place smells like an old factory or warehouse upon entry.It doesn’t even smell like a bakery. It just smells dusty.This ain’t it. This is not what I was expecting from a donut shop.I left promptly.

I tried the breakfast sandwiches, they were so good. In the breakfast combo, you get sandwich, coffee or juice, hash brown and a donut for a small price, compared to the food you get. The workers are always nice. I’ve been going to this place since I was a kid and visit everyone I come back to Chicago.

Its been many years since Ive been here but Im never disappointed! Customer service was delightful & the donut options were plentiful (no jelly 😔) despite it being later in the day which is a huge plus. I did notice that they have joined other businesses in charging a 4% surcharge for using a debit/credit card. With that said, if thats an issue for you, bring cash!

Wonderful Ma & Pa establishment with a large selection of donuts to choose from. I had the banana frosted rings 🍩. Very sweet with minimal banana flavor, may try the banana nut next trip. Ordered what is known as the famous Apple fritter. This is actually what I there for, therefore I wanted to ensure I enjoyed it while at home. Respectfully, it was good. However, I will share that it was not to what I prefer. I like my apple fritters with a fluffily doughy cake texture with apple. Old Fashion Donut is more like a fried apple pancake. Crispy and fun to eat.

I wish I could give them more stars. The have the best donuts and apple fritters. They are a family owned business. I almost want them to be a franchise but I know they would lose flavor if they were.

By far one of the best donut shops I have ever been to! The glazed donuts were absolutely delicious, as soon as you bite into it it just melts in your mouth. The Carmel Donuts are pretty tasty, but are very sweet as they lay tons of caramel on top of the donut. They also had pineapple coconut Donuts which were delicious as well, but taste more coconut than pineapple. Th It is about $10 and some change for a dozen donuts and if you come by 9 a.m. on the weekdays they will have certain pastries fresh I heard that is the best way to eat them. I got my mine toward the afternoon but they were still delicious. This place was packed when I got there and I am so glad that someone recommended this place to me. The service was very nice. This place could definitely use an update as far as the decor. You will not be disappointed however by the quality of the donuts that you buy. I will be back again to try other things and they also sell food.

Buritt “Mr. B” Bulloch moved to Chicago from Mississippi in the early 60s at the tail end of the Great Migration and opened Old Fashioned Donuts on Chicago’s South Michigan Avenue in 1972, where he initially marketed his glazed confections by providing passersby with samples. The building remains exactly as it was 49 years ago, complete with Mr. B—now 82 years young—in the kitchen frying up his signature glazed donuts and apple fritters. With no plans to retire, his motto is: “You keep buying, we will keep frying!”

Not a convenient location, but it has its historical charm. Im sure when this 1st opened the neighborhood was stronger. I am glad to see this place still exists. The donuts are the best Ive ever had in Chicago. If this bakery was closer to the loop the other more commercial places just wouldnt be of any comparison. When I arrived, the staff is continously making fresh batches of donuts. My personal favorites are the old fashioned butter cream, apple fritter and the blueberry - which is only served on particular days. Its so worth the trip to go, your co-workers will love yu, yur boss will promote you. Relatively a straight shot off the highway.

I heard about this place from a friend. Amazing donuts! So tasty and for a *good* price. The apple fritters are great, but my favorite is the cream-filled chocolate donut. The employees are so nice and pleasant to talk to. Highly recommend!

Good donuts consistency over the years

Best donuts in the city — drove down from Lincoln Park. The ONLY negative for us was we arrived at 9:30 AM and the apple fritters and glazed donuts were all gone but the strawberry covered, glazed croissant & cinnamon roll were awesome. (I’m writing this as my hands are still covered in donut remnants.) We will be back ASAP to try the apple fritters and glazed donuts.

OMG, WOW, IM IN LOVE!!! I came here after hearing that this place was named as the best doughnuts in the country I had to see for myself. They did not disappoint! The glazed donuts and the blueberry frosted were my personal favorites. This place is busiest on Friday and Saturday so get there early! The owner (whos in his 80s mind you) still comes in at 6:00am to make these delicious bites of Heaven!! They have a good selection of donuts and they also offer other food options like hamburgers, hotdogs, etc. Go check them out and you will not regret it!!! Oh and they also have HUGE donuts too. The pic does not do them justice, lol. The staff here is also oh so very sweet!!
