They could not fix what was wrong with my computer, and I could not get my laptop back. One of the guys there, Fahey, told me my computer was in storage and to give him a week to retrieve it. He said that he would call me and I could come and get it. I never heard back from him. I have been calling repeatedly for months and months to speak with this guy, and he doesnt return my calls. I still dont have it.An update to my first post in response to the owner/mgr. : I never said that I was not sure if I dropped my computer off at their store. I definitely dropped it off there in 2020. And Fahey was the name that he said to call him, even if I have the spelling wrong. After leaving my computer and not hearing back, I called after waiting for weeks, and this particular consultant Fahey said that my computer could not be fixed and that it would take a few days to locate my PC since there were so many in the store. He said that he would notify me when he found it, and then I could return to get it. He never called me back as promised, and ever since then, whoever answers the phone tells me that Fahey is gone for the moment. They tell me to leave a message for him, which I do of course, and then no one calls me back. The store obviously lost my computer which is unacceptable. Go to this computer repair store at your own risk!

This place is very cool and friendly. They have great services and would give out the best recommendations for your tech needs. Im a female and they did not try to over price me for my computer repairs and services. I highly recommend this place. Great job!!!!

Tech Shield SAVED MY LIFE! Im a graphic designer and had six DEADLINE projects in the works when my Mac Mini completely crapped out on me. I was in a MASSIVE PANIC. With no time to spare I took my computer into Tech Shield. I was told my hard drive was taking its last breath and I needed a new one. My Tech Shield GENIUS calmed my nerves and assured me it could be done in a day. Throughout the day, my genius communicated with me several times to assure me that everything was proceeding well (he was SO responsive he completely kept me calm). Needed a new battery for my iPhone 7. Battery Health 83%. Tech Shield charged me $99 for a new battery. But put the old battery back instead. And charged me $99. Had to go to a different repair place to get a real new battery. And asked the credit card company to reverse the $99 charge for the fake battery replacement. I waited for 4 days. They never called me back. I was never told specifically what the problem was with my laptop. As a result, it wasnt fixed and I got it back with one 4GB RAM memory stick missing.

Not one to write reviews but these guys deserve it. They dug it out to recover the files on my locked out laptop. Spent probably 4x the hours they expected but stuck to their initial (and very reasonable) pricing and got it turned around next day. Will be going back here for any future needs.

I wish I could give Tech Shield more than 5 stars! They did such an amazing job, and I couldnt be happier with the results. My 2012 Mac wasnt turning on (it was totally unresponsive) and I initially took it to Lapin Systems. Lapin told me the logic board needed replaced, and in addition to the $49 diagnostic fee, gave me a quote of $600 to repair the logic board. I found this completely overpriced, and decided to call around for more quotes. One of these was Tech Shield, who gave me a quote of $370, including labor, with no diagnostic fee. I was blown away by the difference, and took my laptop in for the repair right away. My computer was fixed within a day, and once they called to let me know, I asked if it would be possible to clear up some space on my hard drive, as it was almost completely full and I couldnt figure out why. They were able to clear up 45GB of space for me, and showed me how to easily check to see what exactly is taking up so much storage. This was a huge help, and they didnt even charge for helping me clear up the space. In total, Tech Shield was almost $300 cheaper than Lapin Systems, and their customer service was 1000x better, not to mention stellar results (they migrated all of my data, and I didnt lose any files). I cant recommend Tech Shield enough, definitely the premier computer repair shop in Chicago in my opinion!!

This is my first ever Google review. Had to write one because Im so extremely grateful to Lotfy and his team for their professionalism, honesty and efficiency. I spilled a hot sweet drink all over my keyboard one night (sigh). They only charged me a quarter of what some other shops quoted, gave me a student discount, and took only half a day (when some other shops needed 3 or 4 days). They even fixed an additional audio issue of their own accord without charging me any extra. Bonus: they have a 60 days warranty period after the repairs are complete. Thank you for saving my laptop and more importantly for making this such a breeze! You guys are seriously awesome.

I attempted to build a custom PC and had issues getting it to POST. They knew exactly how to identify the issues and were able to get it running correctly the very next day (faulty motherboard plus extra plug-ins needed for video card). I will definitely go to them in the future for all PC needs

I doofed and managed to get a major virus on my laptop. These guys fixed it in an hour! Not only that but they gave me excellent advice on how to get a suitable software update for my outdated laptop that wouldnt slow it down. Very disappointed in this place. I was hoping they would be able to help us fix our laptop. Instead, we waited 2 weeks for them to simply inspect and failed to mention to us that our wifi was not working properly. They claimed at first they received a broken part that would have been used for our computer and now they are still waiting on the part. We took our laptop back and took it somewhere else to get repaired.

We had a very simple issue which needed attention. A screw had fallen from the laptop and the cover hinge wouldnt close correctly. The technician assisted us immediately. Such a nice person and though he is extremely busy, he immediately helped us. We will definitely use their services in the future.

This is the worst experience I have ever had with a business of any kind. A few days ago, I left a review outlining the horrible customer service I had experienced over the past two months here (the original text of the review is in a photo below because its too long altogether), and shortly thereafter received a call from the store. I ignored it as the last several phone calls with them had been completely unproductive and I wanted the next discussion to be in person so I could pick up my computer and deal with them once and for all. The manager then contacted me from a personal phone number which I only answered because I mistook it for a call from my doctors office I was expecting. He was very nice at that time, told me that he only has two staff members right now and that one of them is soon to be fired, and promised I would get the 50% refund. He then asked me to take down my review. I said that I would update my review upon receiving my refund but would not remove it because other customers deserve to be informed. He said that I needed to remove it because its really hurting [his] business. I said that I was sorry but that I work from home and not having a computer for two months really hurt my business, and that asking me to remove the review violates the Yelp (etc) terms of service. I said I did not want to continue the conversation said that I would be coming in the next day (today) to get my money and computer.This is where it gets TRULY WILD. Midday today I got an email that someone had logged into MY YELP ACCOUNT using my computer but with an unrecognized IP address in zip code 60657 (I have a different Chicago zip and was not using Yelp on any devices). I changed my password, and then got emails that someone ELSE had changed my password and that someone was attempting to access MY PERSONAL GMAIL ACCOUNT as well. I checked my yelp and the review was deleted.I called the store to ask if they were in my yelp account and was told maam, you dont understand, we really needed to delete that review (ie YES). I went to the store to get my computer and DEMAND a full refund and was told that I was acting crazy and clearly have issues despite not yelling, screaming, crying, or personally attacking any employees. Another customer in the store even came over without prompting and insisted that I was behaving appropriately and that the employee shouldnt talk to me like that. To make a long story short, it was one of the worst experiences of my life and while I did get my computer back I was left with NO REFUND WHATSOEVER after the company failed to perform the repair, failed to communicate on the status of my computer over the course of TWO MONTHS, repeatedly lied to me and changed their stories, and then violated my personal privacy by accessing my personal yelp and email accounts and making unauthorized changes.

Just had my PC in for some repair. I was experiencing some issues with it starting up. Took a little over a week before I got a call back that they had resolved my issue. It was concluded that the GPU and RAM were causing the problem and cost $139.99 for the repairs. They are busy so do not worry if you dont hear back from them in a few days. The staff is very friendly and I would highly recommend Tech Shields services.

I would never leave a bad review as I understand the impact that can have in ones business, however, this place won one. I brought my laptop to fix something with the software ($75) but when I returned home the WiFi wasn’t working. When I called back i spoke to the manager who told me there was no service provided to me registered in their system. Well.. the employe who was there asked me if I could pay in cash because the machine was having problems and so manager called me multiple times to ask me questions like what time I went there and why did I pay with cash.. which was very uncomfortable.So I brought it back but this time I spoke with the manager. He fixed my laptop screen 2 years ago, he check the laptop WiFi and said whoever open that computer last time left a mess of screws inside, which I told them no one else have ever work on that computer but themselves, so he basically call me a liar.He told me it would be $250 to get it fixed and when I said I would get a second opinion they called me back to say they could do it for $50 (LOL). Then when I went a week later when it was finally fixed, they charged me $75 instead of the $50 we initially spoke without explanation, which I didn’t dispute because honestly I didn’t have the energy to have that conversation with the manager after all this mess. At the end they really didn’t fixed the WiFi they just placed an external USB WIFI which I could have bought myself on amazon for $10.Very unprofessional and poor business ethics.

These guys are great, been going to them for 3+ years. my mac had a blinking folder and i was too busy to diagnose it myself this time. the problem persisted even after they initially repaired it, and they took it back each time to further diagnose what was wrong. it took a while, but the quality of their work and sticking to their word was worth it, and now my macbook (2011) runs even better than when i bought it.

I dropped off my cracked MBA at 12:15 today and had a call at 2:00pm that it was ready to be picked up. Kind of amazing. Price was reasonable and the service was pleasant -- I dont know what else I could ask for. Great local business, glad to have them in the neighborhood.

Came home from vacation to find my PC wouldnt boot. I feared the main drive had died, so I called Stan to check when was good to bring the machine in to the shop. Instead of simply having me come in he offered advice first and walked me through some steps to try just in case the issue was something else.

11/9/2018: My husband and I both took our laptops in three weeks ago to be repaired. Despite both of our computers having different problems they said to fix them both hard drives needed to be replaced. We took them home, and 2 weeks later my husbands computer started acting up in the same way it had before. He took his laptop back and told them he had made no changes to settings or downloaded any files to the internet, and they said they would take care of it immediately. He called them Tuesday, and they completely lost his computer and still dont know what is wrong with it. Now I am nervous about my own laptop because it said it didnt have enough hard drive space for me to literally scroll down a page of an existing document. This is NOT OKAY.11/14/2018: In response to Tech Shields commentary below: I only ever put 5 word documents back on my laptop after their repair because they were projects I am working on actively right now. This device should be relatively empty, but I am still receiving messages that the disc is full. My husband did receive his laptop back in working condition, but it required 5 phone calls an took 3 days later than was promised.11/21/2018: Today my husband discovered that Tech Shield did not put the screws back in the bottom of his laptop after they finished repairing it. More updates about how they handle it to come.

I am amazed at the truly exceptional value of the service that this shop charges almost nothing for! He completely replaced my logic board and erased my drive (@ my request) for $200! A logic board is $700 typically. Which is what stupid Apple would have charged. Extremely skilled and wonderfully friendly.

Have used these guys twice and had a great experience both times. The owner is a super nice and genuine guy who gave me a number of options both times for my desktop problems. You can tell he is not trying to sell you something you dont need and didnt automatically push his most expensive products on me. Both times my PC was back up and running on the same day I dropped it off and actually cost me less than I thought it would.I will definitely be back.

My work computers hard drive crashed randomly. Dropped my computer off at 4pm and they were able to save all my work data and files over night and installed a brand new HD to make my computer run new again in under 24hrs! Very knowledgeable, professional, and most importantly, fast. I had a problem with my Mac, and the Apple store had a three hour wait just to talk to me about it. Best Buy couldnt figure it out, and said it would take two weeks to send out and fix. I went to Tech Shield, was immediately met by a personable and knowledgeable computer technician, and knew right away that they had an idea of what the problem was. I left my computer with them, got a phone call confirming the diagnoses an hour later, and an hour after the confirmed diagnosis went to pick up my perfectly fixed computer for a very fair price. Great professional service! I had an old laptop repaired that I almost trashed because it was horribly slow and kept shutting down. It now works like I just bought it off the shelf brand new! Im not someone who writes reviews. I usually go about my day and keep my head down, however for Tech Shield I had to make the exception.These guys were absolutely phenomenal.I had brought my ailing 2013 MacBook Pro in for help after being hit by some water damage. I couldnt care less about the laptop it self, however I had priceless data on my laptop and I needed it recovered by any means necessary. I explained this to them and I told them, I understand if you cant save the laptop or if the data is corrupt just please try your best. Ive been in PC repair over 10 years so I know a lot of clients can be very demanding and think we can move heaven and earth when we cant...Suffice to say Tech Shield went above and beyond my expectations. My motherboard was fried, but the hard drive was intact. Upon hearing this I was both saddened and relieved, so I started asking about what type of external storage I would need to have to get for the data recovery etc because I assumed that was the next step (its what I would have done)To my surprise they replaced the entire motherboard for me at cost without labor. I was dumbfounded! Kindness really does go a long way. Their shop may appear messy, but its organized chaos. These guys know what theyre doing and Tech Shield will always have my business.

The battery on my Dell laptop expanded, causing my keyboard and touchpad to warp. I called Dell about this, and they said that batteries and any damage to the computer because of defective batteries were not covered under their warranty. I then took my laptop to Tech Shield, and they were able to assist me. They took out the defective battery and gave me back my laptop to use (plugged in) while the new battery shipped. I could not be more pleased with my experience. They were kind, thoughtful, and very professional. While I hope I never need computer repair again, if I do, I will be sure to go to Tech Shield.

I brought in my old HP computer for repair hoping not to have to buy a new one for school, it was very slow and kept restarting with a blue screen or nothing at all. Superlative service!! I brought my old Vista PC in for a diagnosis. Had to reboot 3-4 times just to get it operating. Dropped it at Tech late Monday afternoon. By the next afternoon, was ready for pickup. They cleaned it up, saved the data, removed Vista and installed Windows 7, and added virus protection software. Works like a charm. I’ve purchased new and refurbished computers from Tech Shield. Always kick ass service and equipment from this place! He custom made a desktop for my mom (who always downloads viruses) that we never have to worry about. We have another hard drive that we can reinstall a new OS from. So when these viruses occur; we just wipe the entire drive and install a new OS on it. (She saves the files that matter to her onto a thumb drive) We don’t pay for antivirus at all. Scorched earth policy can never be overcome by these hackers...

I have been going to Tech Shield for all my computer needs for about 15 years. Starting with Daniel, then with Brock, and now with Lotfy, I get unfailingly competent and gracious service. And they are fast. Recently I lost the password to my email account. Lotfy helped me retrieve it in about 10 minutes. Very satisfied.

Worst service Ive ever received from a business...EVER. I brought my laptop in to have the charging port fixed. They never called to update me once. Five weeks and several phone calls from me to them later, I decided to just pick my computer up and take it somewhere else. When I went in to pick it up, they had lost the battery; lost the charger; and when I got home, I realized all the internal screws were missing as well. Parts were just rattling around inside the hard drive. How these people are still in business is beyond me. They have to be selling drugs or their pasty bodies down there to pay rent, because I guarantee their computer fixing abilities are not getting the bills paid. Anyone thinking about taking their computer into this store to be fixed should, instead, consider pouring a full bottle of habenero Tobasco onto their bare genitals. It may not get your computer fixed, but I guarantee it would be a far more pleasurable experience than dealing with this company.

Brought my laptop here twice for repairs. Second time took a bit longer, as a new part needed to be ordered - which got delayed. When all was said and done, they returned it to me free of charge!Good service, great place to bring your laptop.

Missing parts from desktopDesktop was returned to me with missing DVD drive, memory ram, cpu fan, wireless network card, and power supply. I wish I was joking but this was my bad experience, and many phone calls and revisit to the shop.Two things I noticed when I originally dropped it off is that I didnt get a receipt nor my power supply wasnt labeled (which was lost), even upon pickup later the manager was looking around saying Is this the power supply? Very unorganized.The most frustrating thing I experienced is when I asked for a replacement powersupply, the manager asked which (replacement) power supply to order, I told him 330 watts, and he replied im sure this computer doesnt take 330 watts. Yes sir, this specific gaming computer does take 330 watts (look it up for Alienware x51 r2). He ordered it anyway, so thank you (seriously).Second frustrating thing is when I pointed out to the same manager that a wireless card was missing because of the exposed antennas (see photo), his response nothing is missing, thats the antenna for the wireless....Ive been in the IT industry for x amount of years that is how it is. When I took it to another computer shop to get my computer repaired, two IT technicans looked at me and they told me, indeed the wireless card is missing because the antennas connect to it. I didnt mention Tech Shield to the other nationwide computer store, because that would be a jerk move.Though the parts were missing, the same manager did buy replacement parts for the computer and didnt charge for diagnosis fee. It was originally in for repair due to a bad motherboard, which I got it repaired by the other computer shop I mentioned.My recommendation, if youre going to get your pc fixed (laptop or desktop) at Tech Shield, get a receipt and any chargers/power supply you turned in with the computer make sure they label it. If its a desktop, take a picture of the inside of your PC. Apparently, the technician that worked on my pc is no longer with the shop. Again, thanks to the manager for ordering the replacement parts, but the frustations remained.

DONT TAKE YOUR COMPUTER HERE. I dropped of my Mac here, and was told I would get a call within 2 days, a week went by, I called, they didnt know what I was talking about, after several more calls, a week later, they told me it was being fixed now (they never contacted me) and said it would be fixed that day, or the next, and to expect a callback that day. Another week went by, no calls, I called them, same thing, they didnt know who I was, a couple days later I called, and was told that it was fixed over a week ago, and asked why havent I picked it up? I finally went to pick it up, took it home, it still didnt work. I went to another repair shop, and they said that many screws were missing, and whoever worked on it didnt put it back together properly, and whatever they did (they didnt know/couldnt tell) was not the issue. Shady place, save your money.

Im extremely happy with the service I received. They repaired my mac computer for a fraction of the price it would have taken at Apple (if Apple would have even repaired it - they probably would have had me buy a new computer). If youre worried about breaking your warranty, they are Apple Certified. The repair today took less than a few hours, so I just hung out at the coffee shop next door. They had my computer back in my hands very quickly, let me test it out to check that it was fixed, gave me a six month warranty just in case, and I didnt lose any of my data. Plus they were very friendly. No complaints - in fact, nothing but glowing praises. Check them out.

-1 stars if I could. I like supporting my small neighborhood businesses. Tech Shield is not what it was six years ago! I brought my six year old HP Desktop in with a blank screen. They never once phoned me or even texted me with an update. During a ten day period I would either phone or walk in the door inquiring about its status. I was given a different answer each time. On the ninth day, the person I believe is the owner, told me they would have answer by tomorrow at the latest. On that tenth day I was told ..No luck yet. I asked them to give me my computer back and was asked to wait 10-15 minutes for them to put it back together again. I took it back home and brought it to a different repair store in the neighborhood (on Halsted) at 4pm. At 11am the next day they phoned to tell me what the problem was. I dont know what has happened to Tech Shield. Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe the owner will see this review and fix their problems. Dont give them any support or business until the solve their issues. I wasted ten days and they lost income.

My year old Asus laptop just fell out of warranty, and the manufacturer refused to replace it. Asus quoted me $1500 for a whole new motherboard after a $40 non-refundable diagnostic fee. Tech Shield, however, gave a free diagnosis at which point gave me an extremely reasonable rate to fix the burned out components on the motherboard. It was also fixed within the day I dropped it off. I will be returning here for any and all computer repair jobs I need in the future. Incredibly friendly with incredible service!

It doesnt get any faster than this! From calling to inquire about a repair for my iMac to completed repair plus new hard drive installed it was just a few hours. Very honest service. I took in my Macbook thats a bit old. The staff I spoke with was very upfront about my options even it was not leading to $$$ for them. Im very appreciative!!

It only took a few hours waiting at nearby starbucks to find out after a free diagnostic with Tech Shield & Repair why my 2011 macbook was no longer turning on. And just a day later is was fixed and processing faster than when I first got it.The staff provided very fast service and were graciously informative regardless of how many questions I asked. I definitely feel that the money I paid for the new parts and services was well spent, and plan to go back if any other problems arise. It was a way better experience than what Ive had with Apple and their mad genius bar.

These guys ruined my computer. After my windows crashed. Nothing works on it. My volume is out, my computer is incredibly slower. They screwed me over and I paid 125 dollars to get rape. Its unbelievable. Oh and I have Tech Shield symbol on my computer, which I didnt have before I brought in. Nice.

Awful and dishonest service. Tech Shield caused further damage to my phone when I brought it in for display repair (which by the way was NOT shattered as they claim in response to my Yelp comment), and then tried to con me into funding its replacement part, which they didn’t actually have in stock.Feel free to investigate their Yelp page for similar customer service complaints. Hint: the one star reviews are found at the bottom of the page in the section labeled “reviews that are not currently recommended”. There are over 100 such reviews....I recommend taking your business far away from these liars.

Went there to get my phone screen fixed and i came out with a phone that shuts off every 3 minutes and every single time i make or answer a call. Go somewhere else, save your money. I have to buy a new phone now.
