1.50 dollar for a decent medium sized coffe..can’t say no to that

Review №2

Amazing value and drinks

Only the best: the coffee, the root beer, and the friendliness of the staff. Since the cafe is located in the school of divinity, it is no wonder that food tastes divine there. Ideal location for anyone who seeks a quick out-of-body spiritual experience in the 15 min break within lectures.

One of good-coffee cafes in the University of Chicago. Located in the basement of Divinity School, which you can access through Main Quadrangle UChicago. They serve coffee, snacks, warm foods, cold drinks, sometimes slice of pizza too! Bring cash with you since they only receive payment in cash.

Best coffee on campus? Cheapest coffee on campus? Tastiest lunch on campus? (sourced from local Hyde Park restaurants?) Cheapest lunch on campus? Punniest name in campus? The answer to these questions is all the same, and it’s grounds of being. I don’t care if y’all are cash only, eating here is just too good.

Review №6

Hidden gem in the basement of the Divinity school. $1 coffee refills (any size). Very nice baked goods are delivered around 9am, and inexpensive lunch entrees are kept in a hot display starting around 10:30, these are usually cheaper and comparable in quality to the nearby food trucks. Seating is limited. Days of operation depend heavily on the undergrad schedule (eg not open during winter holiday period).

Great place.

Review №8

Very interesting place and the name is a smart play of words considering it is located at the Divinity School. Such a classic University of Chicago thing to do. Besides the clear elitaire naming of this basement coffee shop, Grounds of Being is proof that sophisticated coffee culture is still alive in Starbucks-ridden North America.

This is fantastic. I love the botanical craft sodas they sell in bottles. Havent had anything they make in shop yet, but Im looking forward to it.

Review №10

A decent (small) cup of coffee for $1, what more could you want.Update: I just bought the stalest bagel ever. Inedible. Yuck.

Review №11

A great student-run local coffee shop! They have an array of food, but the selection has been the same for many years, would be nice to change it up a bit. Payment is cash-only, which I can totally understand, but sometimes it does mean I have to make a different decision. The coffee is great! Lastly, its often quite crowded so tough to get a spot to sit

Review №12

Its fun that its in the basement. Dont know how people get work done there as the seating area is small but they have a good variety of coffee. They have people bring in really good packaged lunches. Its cash only though so remember to stop by an atm

Review №13

Best coffee on UChicago campus. Its also student run, and the prices are great. Keep in mind they only accept cash.

Review №14

Definitely the best coffee place on campus. And if you bring your own mug, they let you refill for a dollar. Also, they have food from a variety of restaurants around Hydepark. The price is pretty reasonable compared to other places around campus. They only take cash though which is inconvenient sometimes.

Review №15

Coffee and atmosphere is wonderful. At any given point they have 4 different drip coffees available all of which are great quality. Their Yerba mate was also very smooth, flavorful and not bitter whatsoever.

Review №16

Nice place with a great vibe. Well hidden in the basement of the divinity school.I mainly go here for the $1 coffee and the occasional quick lunch.

Review №17

I feel so comfortable here! Coffee is super affordable and people are friendly. I like spending time here between classes.

Review №18

A place to snack and get coffee in the University of Chicago divinity school. Convenient snack place for University of Chicago students. Open from 8am-4pm

Review №19

I often feel like it is difficult to explain an idea or a feeling about a place using only language...but you can talk to people about such thoughts over coffee here. They used to sell double espressos for $1.Bring cash. The physical kind.God drinks coffee here. 5 stars isn’t enough.

Review №20

Really like this place. We have a coffee machine and we still go their sometimes

Review №21

If you ever wondered what a dive bar would look like as a coffeeshop, this is it.Great coffee and great vibe. Cash only and watch the stairs.

Review №22

Good place for coffee and meals from local restaurants. Cash only which is a bit of a bummer, but not a deal breaker.

Review №23

My daily break from work. Great music, friendly vibe, amazing coffee. Good stuff all around.

Review №24

Great place for good food and coffee while you study. It is a cash only place though, so be prepared.

Review №25

Nice selection of food, very good coffee, but cash only policy a little disappointing.

Review №26

A refreshing break from cookie-cutter coffee shops on the Uchicago campus. Highly recommended.

Review №27

Flavorable and warm Siam peanut tofu and basmati rice and dark roast coffee. But, no easy accessible wifi for non U of C customers.

Review №28

Definitely the best coffee in the campus and that too at a reasonable rate!

Review №29

The best place to get coffee on campus hands down. cash only

Review №30

If you are on the University of Chicago campus and looking for something caffeinated or something to eat you cant really go wrong here. They have typical coffee drinks and carry a selection of lunches brought in from restaurants around the area.

Review №31

This is UChicagos coffee shop. Dont be offended by their cash-only requirement, because the coffee and the ambiance and the friendly service is worth the slight inconvenience. If youre looking for a long-term study location, drop in early in the morning and grab one of the corner seats. Then relax and lean in to all the diverse beats and phenomenal music selection (the baristas have exceptional taste), and get to your work.Better yet, enjoy the best cup of normal joe (Colectivo beats Metropolis by far) for just $1. That is incomparable.

Review №32

Easily the best coffee shop in hyde park.

Review №33

Great spot to get a drink and some food on campus

Review №34

Somewhere between the ontic and the ontological there is a place where hermeneutics are no longer suspicious. When youre there, youre there-being ;)

Review №35

Its great, fantastic coffee, good vibes

Review №36

Best coffee and food selection on campus. Watch out for spaced out undergrads who like to stand in the middle of the room.

Review №37

The products here are all cheaper and tax free compared other places of UChicago campus. But you need cash to purchase from here. No card.

Review №38

The best coffee on campus, no cap

Review №39

Arguably the best coffee shop in Hyde Park
