So yeah, this place is good. I just finished eating these (830 pm) and they were pretty good. I had a chocolate glazed and you could tell they were old. The chocolate glaze itself was still excellent, its the donut batter that was a bit stale at this point in the evening. I can imagine what this would taste like if it was Friday though. It was also nice to grab an espresso with my order.Everyone else also enjoyed their donut selection. If i had these fresh, i can easily imagine giving them 5*.
Great donuts the drink I had wasnt good though. I had the charcoal latte. Just tasted like warm milk, but the donuts were great they had a lot of unique options. Its a very small shop and when I went there was a line only one person was working so youll need to be patient, but the donuts were worth the wait.
We were recommended by friends to go to Firecakes instead of Stan’s donuts in our visit to Chicago. And Omg!!! This place does not disappoint. Delicious selection of donuts, ice cream and coffee. The staff was super friendly and helped us select the most popular donuts that people tend to buy at this place. Highly recommend for folks that live local or out of town to experience this place.
5/5 stars all the way! Waited in line 30 minutes, but honestly it was worth it.. freshest and most delicious donut I’ve ever had! The Tahitian vanilla is their best seller, and omg it was great! Staff were friendly & helpful. I was surprised there was only 2 people working behind the counter on a Saturday morning, made coffee orders a little slower.
What a fantastic bakery! The flavor and variety of their donuts is incredible. Although the price of their donuts is a bit on the higher side, I promise that they are worth it. They are filling and decently sized- making it worth the pretty penny. A great place to stop by for something quick on the way to work- their service is quite fast with orders! A downtown must try if you are in the area!
Best donuts I’ve ever had! If you walk down the street holding a box, someone might shout “Firecakes!” At you because these are also a local fave. The hot-chocolate and mochas use real, thick, rich chocolate, so don’t sleep on ordering one. The store only allows for 5 people, or one small group at a time so you might encounter a line. We seemed to get lucky and come just before the line started. It seemed easiest to get a half dozen donuts, so we went with the Pistachio Old-Fashioned, Volrhana Chocolate, Cheese Danish, Mini Espresso (filled), Mini Peanut Butter Cup (filled), and Blueberry. All were great and miles beyond most of the donuts I’ve eaten elsewhere, you really can’t go wrong here. Dare I say these are also way better than Voodoo Donut? I believe so. 15/10 recommend. Tip: no seating inside, but there’s a couple small parks in front of buildings nearby to enjoy your donuts and drinks. Just walk a couple blocks in either direction.
I love this place!! Their donuts are definitely the best that I’ve ever tried!! Today I tried the peanut butter and jelly donut for the first time and it was delicious!! Just the right balance of sweetness with the jelly in the center. My partner loves the pistachio donut! If you haven’t tried this place, you are missing out!!
Donut crawl stop #3. These donuts are sooo sweet, maybe even a little too sweet. Favorite item was the much subtler apple fritter.
A woman at out hotel was carrying a box of Firecakes Donuts in the elevator and we stopped her to ask about them. She told us there was a new location near the river that was not too far to Navy Pier so we decided to check them out.We went after dinner and there was a line out the door. Due to Covid, they are only allowing one group inside at a time. GET THERE EARLY. By the time we arrived, they only had one Churro donut left for an ice cream sandwich. We bought a few Old Fashioned donuts (which are my favorite anyway) and saved them to eat with our room service the following morning. I will definitely visit again if I am in the area!
Store was next to our hotel and we love to visit local shops instead of chains when out of town. Place had amazing donuts. There was always a line so went early one morning. Donuts did not disappoint!! Very good!! Cant wait to try the donut ice cream sandwiches next time!
Great late night stop - donuts were great and the server was so nice!
Seems like this franchise has really expanded in the greater Chicago area. Never seen this before for all of my life and I grew up in the NW suburbs all my life.Got here on Sunday morning before heading back to the city that I currently work at and wanted to give it a shot.Cute interior, one group of customers inside at a time, and delicious food. Coffee was good, nothing crazy, but does the job.
It was a cold night, and we were walking! Coffee could have been our shelter and Firecake became the provider.I absolutely loved the Americano. My friend had a cappuccino. We also tasted Buttermilk Donut and it was tasty (although I am not a big fan of donuts, but I can eat that again at this cafe).
Really loved Firecakes take on donuts! Nice that they have old fashioned/classic versions for those folks interested, but I like their craft donuts even better. The Tahitian Vanilla iced was absolutely scrumptious.
The staff aren’t particularly quick at serving. Due to the 1 group restriction you can easily be waiting 10 / 15 minutes to get a donut. I would love to put 1 star but the donuts are actually really good, so they will get a 3.
I never understood donuts before I tried Firecakes. I mean, theyre usually not that tasty and at the same time all that sugar fried in grease feels like youre doing a lot of damage to your body. Well, Firecakes are different. Buttermilk old fashioned is delectable, worth anything – and they apparently change the oil pretty often as theres little to no greasy aftertaste. Works on everyone, too. Ive never seen my brother finish a filled donut and he had two here. My vegan friend is conflicted every time, she says glazed buttermilk is good enough for her to forget about being vegan; luckily theres a proper option.Having visited for 2021 Chicago Marathon, I thought Id probably never come to Illinois again in my lifetime, but they didnt have chocolate glazed old fashioned this October. So Id have to visit again...
Heavenly donuts! The mini chocolate iced espresso were out of the world. It was a chocolate blast in my mouth. I was lost in it! Coffee was good too.I will definitely visit again and try the other menu items.
Love the quirky location and the take-out window. The concept is great. Execution was average - its a pretty regular donut cut in half with regular ice cream spread in it, nothing that would blow your mind. Still, after dinner this place really hit the spot and glad we came across it.
Donuts with ice cream were super good.& tasty! The lady who attended us was super nice and sweet. Loved the design and the location. Great prices as well! Definitely a spot to come to for a bite of some quick sweets!
Glazed donut cut in half with Vanilla ice cream and Caramel sauce inside. Yummy
My favorite donut shop in Chicago. Best in class! Try the charcoal latte to detox or the espresso creme mini donut for a treat. Family owned and operated. Best local business you can find. Love this place.
So delicious and fresh. We got a gluten free/vegan chocolate, lavender glazed and a cinnamon roll and they were perfect! Not too sweet and perfect consistency. The customer service is so lovely here.
Donuts amazing, ice cream ok, but I usually dont like donuts but these are so delicious. Staff was super friendly and helpful.
Their donuts that are cake based are good but the regular donuts were dry. Hot chocolate was good maybe next time we’ll try their ice cream donut sandwiches give it another try.
Amazing donuts. We got 4 donuts for 3 people and all 3 of us agreed that these were some of the best donuts we had ever tasted. The coffee was good, not great. It can get super busy and the area inside is only big enough for one group to order at a time, so be patient.
Undoubtedly one of the best donuts for their taste, quality and variety in the area and probably in Chicago! Their Hot Chocolate is amazing as well.
This was our first visit, and we had high expectations. The place was very small and clean. Due to covid they were letting in one customer at a time. There was only one server. We arrived late, it was around 8:30pm. We had two churro donut ice-cream sandwiches and one glazed ice-cream sandwich. All three with different ice-cream flavors. The ice-cream and the glazed donut sandwich was delicious but unfortunately the churro donut seemed a bit stale so that was disappointing. We think it was due to them closing at 10pm not sure. We also wanted some coffee but the server said it would take a while so, since there was a line behind us we decided not to get any. We are going to try them again earlier. If youve never had a donut ice-cream sandwiches I say definitely give them a try!
Staff is super friendly, coffee is great and relatively affordable, donuts are good, but not amazing
Great for a late night donut, but they were out of the honey glaze! The traditional style was fantastic. Want to go back and try the honey glaze.
Pistachio, lemon blueberry, wildflower honey glazed, chocolate iced, and peanut butter cup are the flavors we got. Amazing and friendly service!
Great tasting donuts. All the options I enjoyed. I like the fact you can make a donut into a ice cream sandwich.
This is an ok place. We went late, around 11pm, and they didnt do shakes anymore and had limited selection of donuts. The donut we bought was good, not great. Same thing with the hot chocolate. The vegan raspberry coconut ice cream was really good. The service was ok. I felt a bit rushed out of there.
Small line outside (limited entry to 1 party) but went quickly. Great donuts and helpful staff.
I watched a Food Insider review video about the best donuts in every state. Firecakes was rated the best donuts in Illinois. I Googled the address, but didnt read any reviews before visiting because I didnt want to influence my opinion about the donuts, until I personally tried them. I had showed my husband the large and varied menu of donuts; we had high expectations. My husband and I visited this small, sort of fancy shop for the first time on January 1st 2021, at about 10:00 am. Only 1 to 2 people are allowed inside at a time. You can only order and go. There was actually a limited amount of donut options (about 15), compared to the menu on the website. I felt VERY disappointed! We ordered a dozen: Wildflower Honey Glazed, Valrhona Chocolate Iced, Tahitian Vanilla Iced, Jelly Bismark, Coconut Cream, Cinnamon Roll, Red Velvet Cake, Orange Poppy Seed, Valrhona Chocolate Espresso, Pinapple Coconut Fritter, and I think a Triple Rich Chocolate Cake. We tried them all, each one of them was soft, DELICIOUS, and with great texture. However, I felt that they were a bit expensive (I am NOT a cheap person). Firecake donuts are delicious, no doubt, but not incredibly different from Stans donuts. My daughter loved Firecake donuts, she thinks that they are THE BEST. We all loved the cinnamon roll! My husband, my son and I think that theyre great but a bit pricey, and its not worth it to go all the way there for just a cinnamon roll. We may stop by to get some donuts, IF we happen to be around the area, but we could get Stans donuts for the same great taste, about the same price, and closer to home. For a simple donut craving, Id settle for Dunkin Donuts.Firecakes has a decent amount of coffee choices, but again, I think they are too pricey; thats why I didnt want to get any.The shop looked clean. The cashier was pacient and nice enough.Wishing you a safe, healthy and succesful 2021!
Firecakes makes donuts that are creative yet classic. This location in particular is one of the best donut shops in Chicago.
Tasted bad, definitely not worth the money. Donuts were also at least a couple of days old and we even got there for opening. Horrible experience
So, so good. Def pricey (with delivery charge, taxes and tip, we got two cold brews and 11 donuts for just under $70) but it was worthwhile indulgence. These are not your corner store bakery donuts, they are a taste experience! The wildflower honey glazed were my fave, my daughter loved the Tahitian Vanilla.
Nice quaint donut store. The service was very warm and welcoming. The prices are on the higher end so this is a speciality donut shop. The donuts were quite good. The donut ice sandwich was a novelty and thoroughly enjoyed by us.
Pretty good donuts, slightly more expensive then other donuts in the area. A TINY shop, and in Covid times only one costumer at a time. It’s pretty popular so if you are short on time this might not be your dream destination. The plain glaze is really good and I use that as my test donut.
Small shop but delicious looking desserts. I enjoyed a peaches ice cream with peanuts covered glazed donuts. I also got a pistachio old fashioned donut which I didnt like because it tasted like a crumble coffee cake but my sister Loved it because it reminded her of a powdered donut. I also got a peach fritter which had a nice hint of Cinnamon sugar like a Cinnabon. The server was very friendly and helpful. He recommended the red velvet as a crowd favorite but someone bought the last 2 before I could try it. It was only 3pm so I assumed he had more but apparently he was out.
Firecakes always has amazing detailed craft focused donuts. This location is super easy to get in and out of. I prefer it over the Lincoln Park one simply because its is smaller quantier if that is a word. with Covid part deuce they are limiting one party in the store at a time (which I love). But they also have a little walk up window in the alley. So you dont have to go in, you can just walk through the walk through window. Ps I wonder if you can buy the big jars of Skippy peanut butter they have displayed on the shelves.Anyways get in and get you some coffee and fire donuts. 🔥🔥
Quality donut with nice selection. Good coffee, convenient location.
If youre feeling guilty about the calories, dont worry. The second you get in the door, the smell of the donuts will override your rational decision-making capacity. Go with it. This isnt really a proper review, because I did not get the birthday cake donut nor the ice cream donut sandwiches, the existence of which is really all you need to know when you can stop reading now. But the pistachio old-fashioned was fantastic as was the wildflower honey glazed. The latter was like a bagel made of the most delicious fresh fluffy sweet challah you have ever had glazed in delicate honey sweetness. An unexpectedly Jewey experience for a honey-glazed donut.
Specialty donut place that is good. Small little shop so be prepared to wait a bit as the entry area is tight. Go back a few times and try until you like. Lots of options...
Firecakes Donuts certainly lives up to its name. The donuts here are straight fire. My first bite of my vanilla frosted doughnut with the beads on top blew me away. The churro, old fashioned glazed, and others were phenomenal as well. On top of this, you can also get ice cream sandwiches made with them. Seriously a must try.
I stand by this statement: Firecakes is the best donut shop in Chicago. The buttermilk old fashioned is so perfectly balanced. Other shops are good (mostly, except Stans), but none of them have your trust of choosing any donut on display and knowing that itll be great.
Great Donuts. I had the salted caramel and the chocolate peanut butter..very sweet as Donuts often are.I am swapping to Keto and its my last bit of sugary carbs 😂😅😂 Very nice selection though. 🤗
Came here for dessert forMy 30 bday 😌im into cinnamon rolls and theirs was fresh and dense. I was expecting more of a donut but it really is a mini cake lol. My husband chose a pecan pie and it was great the next day too. Opt to get the ice cream w the pastry! They only let a few people in the bakery at once so be patient. We went at night and everyone was following the rules 👌 Very refreshing and delicious
This is such a cute and fun place. The donuts are really good and I love the minis for the times you want a little sweet treat. They have several cafe drinks available and a good variety of donuts. The staff is really friendly and helpful. Its definitely for carryout as there are no tables and no room to stand around, so you grab your donuts and go. Im happy I tried this place, it was a big win for me.
It feels like a home made donuts, fresh!!
I was there today, unfortunately I had to deal with toxic customer service. The person literally was yelling with attitude when I asked him about an item. Hate was so clear, he couldn’t control it or hide it. One of my guesses is because I am Muslim scarfed woman !!!
So tasty and so soft. A little sweeter than I expected but ate the while box
Fun experience cool vibe good food
Donuts are different and they are GOOD. Unfortunately, staff members need to be more polite and should know what customer service means. We changed our order and person at the counter simply frowned on us. What a shame! Please work on your hospitality, otherwise no complaint from donuts perspective except ice cream donut is overhyped.
Pretty outstanding donuts. When I went there, they werent set up for donut ice cream sandwiches, so the kids were slightly disappointed. Theres quite a line in the mornings, but its worth the wait.
This pistachio donut is the true.. Wow delicious
So this place was interesting. I was walking around and found them in Yelp while in Chicago. I decided to order one of their ice cream doughnut signature sandwich and it wasn’t that bad. I was pleasantly surprised. Some bit of a wait though. But as you know a bit of a wait means they are popular. The only bad thing is they don’t recycle. :/
Amazing selection of homemade Donuts! Try the Donut ice cream sandwich. Youll thank me.
Donuts delicious! The staff it is a little slow and that results in a very long line so be prepared
Excellent donuts with a variety of donuts ranging from classic to more interesting and unique flavors! The Maple Bacon was my personal favorite and I loved the cream filling it had!
Awesome donuts, go hungry, you wont be disappointed
