Love this place! Came in today looking for some vintage 1960s Beatle-esque boots. The owner helped me find a pair almost instantly and he offered an amazing price that I couldnt pass up. He even polished them up for me before I left! Will definitely be back!
I have seen your store in google map. I was very nice and products are very beautifulCan I get Your e-mail or facebook id???
Does anyone have any details about this place moving to another location?!would really help looking forward to shop here again
The owner is very rude!!!! Highly recommend steering away from this store. this is a kind of store that should go out of business during Covid not our favorite stores and restaurants.
Unfortunately this place is not exist anymore(( I came for a few times in winter and spring they are still closed. In the beginning it was written reconstruction but now seems like they are closed forever
Shocked by the poor reviews? I had a blast here it was a real experience. I guess I’m just excited by all the pointy toe boots at good prices. The guy asked me like 30 times what size I wore😝😂😮😁🤣99999999999999
Been in here multiple times and had great experiences. Not sure why the owner gets a bad rep, he clearly genuinely cares about the clothes and the history of the clothes. I think he just cares how they will be cared for after purchase and where they are going, and rightfully so after currating such a beautiful collection over the last several decades. Nearly everything in this store is from before the 80s with many pieces being great pieces of history from Louis, Gucci, Levi etc from as early as the 50s. Owner spends lots of time talking, friendly and engaging and will negotiate prices also.
I was a regular here and honestly I truly enjoyed visiting this chic and tasteful boutique; but I will no longer visit here again based on the abuse I received from the owner here today. About two weeks ago I found a beautiful pair of fur boots and tried it on in this store. I wasnt rushed so I had to decide between a black pair of boots or the brown fur boots for winter. I decided upon the brown boots and the brand is Tecnica, a fashion boot brand from Italy. There wasnt any price listed (as per the norm here) so Dominic told me it would be $80. He bragged that I was getting a huge deal especially because they looked great and he said he could have easily gotten $250 for it but he was giving me a deal for being a good customer. After wearing these boots just three separate times, both of the soles ripped away from the boots while I was walking home late at night. I consulted a shoe repair shop the next morning and asked for a quote on the repair of these boots I barely used. I was quoted anywhere from $30 to $50 and was told the soles were dry rotted out because of their age. I brought the shoes back to Dominic and in a calm tone of voice asked what could be done. He offered me a full refund on the spot or a new pair of boots but I simply requested he have the boots repaired and he agreed to help me . He told me to leave the boots at his shop and they would be restored in a week. I asked for a store receipt to present to him upon pick up. There was a customer present as we chatted and I was respectful but I wanted written proof that I could pick up my boot by a specific date as a written reminder. He refused to issue me a receipt and I came by this late afternoon only to be scolded and reprimanded by Dominic that I was a terrible person for asking for a receipt and embarrassing him in front of his customer last week. I was then chided and informed that he spent $25 repairing the boot for me and that he had originally offered to refund me $80 last week but that instead I cost him money because he paid a lot of money for the boots and gave it to me for $80 then paid $25 of his own money to fix it for me. He called me a bad person so I decided that from this point on its in my best interest not to shop here again. My feelings were very hurt today especially because I was very polite to him last week when I simply asked him to take care of the repair for me. Id been a loyal customer here for years and his behavior towards me was thoughtless and ill mannered. Its more professional to be issued a legitimate receipt for any purchased item you leave behind a store for repair work. Its also shady not to list prices for items you are selling in your store; yet he never lists any prices for any items here. You literally have to bring the item to him and he makes up a price in his head and quotes you his price. I was originally going to write him a five star review today in gratitude for repairing the boots this week; but he surprised me by scolding me and humiliating me this afternoon calling me a bad person. I didnt break the boots; they were dry rotted and he should have been apologetic to me for accidentally selling me defective boots. I truly think the shoes and clothing here are high quality and quite beautiful but his mean spirited treatment of me this afternoon really put me in a bad mood so I just dont feel inclined to return for more potential misdirected anger from the owner. If you dont mind not knowing an exact price for any item you fancy then by all means definitely come in here and take a chance. I dont like being mistreated by anyone Ive brought business to especially after I had recommended people shop here in the past. Today Dominic had absolutely no right to mistreat me. I should have been issued an apology for having to take a special trip out here twice just to get new vintage shoes repaired!
I had been looking for a pair of ankle high lace up boots for a while. I randomly decided to check out this shop and found the exact boots of my dreams. The show owner was nice enough to offer them half off, which was an extremely fair price for full leather boots. This visit made my day!Check it out if you’re in the market for vintage items. Lots of Levi men’s and women’s jeans, outerwear, many many boots and more....
Owner Dominic is a true gem of a man and sweet. The owner is great and despite what others have said in previous reviews my experience with him was awesome. Customers need to understand this is his business that he has had for over 30 years, its his passion and really what he loves. In my observation in the hour I spent with him in his store he is more receptive to those that say hello and engage but that are genuine in their engagement. Whether that is right or wrong when you are in retail, it’s right for him.His collection of designer vintage impressed me but what really excited me was his extensive knowledge on every piece he has from clothing (don’t even remind me of that 1920’s dress that caught my eye) to handbags (vintage Gucci) to shoes ( why didn’t those Manalo’s fit me!). He knows exactly what year, what style, what designer just by looking. I had a blast with him and bought a couple of items. Now here is what I want to share so that your expectations are set. This is not a touch and feel store. Most of his more high end vintage gems require him to get it for you as they are hung above close to the ceiling of the store. His bags are also displayed above reach or behind a locked display case. But as he gets to know you and what you are looking for he is willing to show it all to you until you find what you are looking for. This is not a high end consignment shop, so if you are a true vintage hunter, the age of vintage through smell will be familiar and you know this comes with the search.I’d revisit the next time I’m in Chicago….simply just to say hello.
Been shopping for western boots for awhile for my 19 year old daughter. We looked at boots ranging from $250 - $550. Being from the south...recently moved to the city, found this place and walked in. My daughter found a pair of vintage Tonly Lama boots for only $80. There is a huge benefit to wearing boots that are already worn in. We had tried other Western Stores in the suburbs and this guy had the best! Not only was the owner super helpful..but he was extremely friendly.
My favorite vintage store in Chicago! Selection is genuinely one of a kind! French owner is very friendly and has a story for every article of clothing, he will discuss prices! The one employee is extremely helpful but a little too talkative. Dont be surprised when you see the very large old dog.
Love love love ❤️ this shop! My 12 y/o son always bugs me to go also. Partially because he enjoys browsing around but mostly because of the gregarious, charismatic owner Dominic. He always greets me with a “Hello beautiful”, who in the heck wouldn’t like that?!I can’t for the life of me understand people criticizing him. All I can think is they are competitors?? IDK really strange. Every time we walk into the place I come out with something(boots usually). I usually pay at or under 100$ for Frye boots which are my favorites. These boots are in near perfect condition& retail for 300-350$ so nooooo - to those reviewers that say you can buy cheaper elsewhere, another non-truth!You won’t be sorry going into this place, but beware - you will more than likely come out with something fabulous!
Dominc was awesome. Great service - the guy really knows his stuff. Highly recommend.
An amazing selection of vintage shoes and clothing! I have to make a trip every time Im in town and I always find something unique and high quality. A treasure trove of western shirts and cowboy boots too, if thats your thing.
Very impolite. We didn’t even enter the store before we were shooed away by the owner, quite unkindly. I was looking for a pair of cowboy boots for my bluegrass performances, but I guess I will take my business elsewhere. It seemed like he saw us and immediately decided he didn’t want anything to do with people like me. I don’t think it was closing time because, well, it was 2 p.m. I guess my feelings can’t be too hurt, because it sounds like this is a theme at this business.
LOVED THIS SHOP AND THE OWNER...Spent almost two hours and still didnt get to check out everything..found some amazing pieces...the owner was as kind and helpful as they come a true soul...cant wait to go back and take more friends with me..thank you thank you!!!
The owner (or whomever was manning the counter) was incredibly rude and unwelcoming. Incredible aesthetic and great selection, but the store is poorly merchandised and many of the items weren’t priced, and I wasn’t about to ask the guy working there anything. Go to Knee Deep instead!
Owner has great taste, and is a warm and welcome guy. Love coming here.
Worst shopping experience ever had in chicago. one white male customer walking around the shop trying on shoes while holding his coffee and things were fine for him, two asian women walked in w their coffee but got stopped by the owner (?) v impolitely, and were required to put the cups on the counter
The owner of the store is a very polite gentleman. Very a eclectic collection of vintage leather articles, purses, Boots & More. Pricing is very reasonable and hes willing to negotiate! I wish I could have purchased everything!
Awesome shop. The owner has great taste. Timeless clothing
Absolutely DISGUSTING store and owner! The man who owns this store is appalling. He racially targets customers and is disrespectful to all who walk in this store. It is unacceptable. To make matters worse, the clothes are vintage but poorly kept, soiled and as unclean as the rest of the store. There is nothing number one about this place. No one should visit this dirty storefront or have to deal with its racist owner. Go to other locations on Milwaukee as there are plenty with respectful customer service and higher quality clothing.
I had the pleasure of speaking to the owner and asking to take a photo/ video, he thought about it and was kind enough to give me permission to do so when he did not even have to. Further, I do see what kfhers have said about him but one must realize... this store was unique. This store is his baby and pride and Joy is what it came off as. I ho early believe if you come in there with respect for his hard work and collection he has collected to sell, and you talk to him or show him and his store respect yoh will get the same in return. He did come off as a tough guy at first but as my friend tried on jackets he knew the exact year of the hackers off the top of his head and he provides a great price to his clothing he is selling. And please don’t get me started on the boot collection he has a available ... I love this store. I wish I could buy a lot more than what we walked out with. And sadly, his beautiful dog passed away recently.
Tried to shelter in the cold during a snowy day in Chicago and the gentleman working the counter, rudely taps on the window and shoes me away. Im not sure if the quality of clothing at this store is good, it very well might be but the lack of neighborly behavior is as sad as it is unbecoming of a Chicago Business. If youre looking for cowboy boots, try Alcalas in Chicago Ave. its very close and the staff there is very friendly!
Best true vintage shop in Chicago. The prices are not crazy overpriced but not cheap.
He has all name brand vintage bags..Gucci,coach,Louis Vuitton and much more...the owner is very nice.
I had an amazing time at US #1 Vintage Clothing. The owner was friendly, extremely knowledgable, and reasonable. His stock was immense and varied, and the stores atmosphere was second-to-none. Love the shops dog too!
I love this place and have for 10+ years. When ever I get to go home to Chicago, it is one of the first places I go. Needless to say, I have a jacket fetish ;). Its too bad I live in a warm climate now and have to limit my collection.
As many others here have experienced, owner was rude and nasty to my friend and I. He also keeps his dog out on the shop floor even when the dog is clearly overstimulated and wants to be left alone. Having lived with a dog trainer before, I learned that you need to provide a safe, quiet place for your dog when it gets over stimulated; even the friendliest of dogs can get overwhelmed and need a place to go.
I’ve NEVER experienced worse service in my entire life. Old man working refused to help us with anything and started yelling at us after we started looking through the jackets. Don’t give this place your money.
The owner is racist bigot, he screamed at my beautiful daughter. .She purchased clothing last year. She saw a dress wanted to purchased it he told her to get the Hell out of his storeHe is horrible, cantankerous evil man.Dont bother
Looked like a great selection. Shame the (owner?) is so rude.
My review doesnt pertain to the quality of products - but I think the dressing room setup is either intentionally or inadvertantly extremely violative/inappropriate. Its a normal door (reaching down to ones calves/shins and up to the chin or so), however there is a floor-length mirror thats slanted upward from the ground... so if you are outside of the dressing room, you can very likely see the person undressing given the angle of reflection... to top it off, one of the workers climbed up a ladder while I was undressing, so clearly you could see in from above. Again, this may have been unintentional, but as a costumer I felt very uncomfortable -- and would never try anything on there again as a result.
Great selection of vintage hats, and a professional owner with competitive prices. and a nice german shepard for a pet.
Dominic thank you for your great customer service! I LOVE your store!!
The owner is really impolite & rude. Also, he is literally a racist and doesnt respect customers at all.Ill never come back again.
Came to complain about the horrible person running this shop to find so many other people with similar experiences. The owner is incredibly rude. Take your business elsewhere.
Love this Vintage Store Good Quality of Western Boots and Coats
Too high priced for the clothing you can save when you go somewhere else for the same clothing .
Racist, discriminatory, obnoxious owner. DO NOT SHOP HERE
Havent seen the prices but who else stocks luxury handbags?!
Just like goodwill
