A good place to buy halal meat, Iranian and Arabic beans, pickles, jams, Iranian spices and Indian and Pakistani rice

We travel 30 minutes from downtown to get our stuff from here. Everywhere else just doesnt compare. Many good Middle Eastern restaurants in the neighborhood if you want to make an outing out of it. So glad we found this gem.

I’ve been there only once or twice and I can 100% confirm that the owner is an ugly creature from inside and out. I heard horror stories about how the owner treats his workers and abuse them verbally and not sure if he does anything physically but be safe and avoid this place as a PLAGUE! Will never waste my money in such a filthy place like that...

The owner of this store is extremely rude and ignorant. The owner and staff dont care about customer satisfaction. They are spoiled because of the high customer traffic,they like in the mood of buy it or leave the store. Staff and owners gestures are so irritating when you ask them a few questions about the products. They talk behind you. There are plenty of other options around this location, avoid this rude and disrespectful owner.

Great price for meat and everything else. You can find any Persian/Iranian ingredients there. They bake Barbary bread everyday! You can get fresh bread from them!

What I like most here is to have halal meat. There are very nice lamb still meats. What I saw in our markets in Turkey have similar parts. Some of the handmade lavas are especially beautiful. and here you find products like chicken livers and spleen that you cannot find elsewhere. But still, check it out. Very decent environment. The employees are very friendly and friendly. I love this grocery store! They carry every sort of ingredient you may need for cooking Persian/Iranian food (or any Middle Eastern food really). Its a bit far from me but always worth the trip. Its been a silver lining during the pandemic to have a place to get all the ingredients I need to make the food that gives me comfort. The kashk selection is incredible, to say nothing of the breads, rice, etc. Was there last week but Im sure Ill be back before long.

This store has absolutely anything you can think of. Very friendly staff, wide variety of meats, extremely sanitary. There is a lady constantly cleaning the floors, windows, shelves, you can tell that the owner takes pride in his business.

Just discovered this place which carries so many of the hard to find Persian herbs, spices, snacks and more. It was like a treasure hunt walking through the isles and finding things I hadnt seen in a long time. Will definitely go back again and again....

The store sells Halal meat and Turkish, Middle Eastern and some Indian food and products. Prices are good. The workers are energetic and taking good care of the store.

The parking can be tough but its worth it. The store tries to keep updated on current items and is truly an international market. From various choices of uncommon meat selections to the herbs and butters, theres plenty to choose from. However, we were looking for a tagine, in which we found and have created many delicious meals. So if youve been curious about using one, this is the place where you can get one.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Cashiers are not friendly at all. Some items are overpriced. But still has a great variety of turkish products.Today sept 22, I had a very rude cashier. Please avoid this ppace at all costs bringing my review down from 5 to 1. Whenever I am at the counter cashiers make me feel like I owe them for the service and for the groceries extra money. Owner is cheap, doesnt care about the customer service. Hires cheap labor

Great selection of middle eastern food. The place is well organized and the service is quick. This supermarket been there for years and its been one my go to for middle eastern food. The only issue I have is with pricing. The prices seems to be higher than similar places in the area!

Great little Persian/Turkish market. Must try the Sammon Iraqi made fresh in house. Addictive!

Very good selection of products. I have been to other middle eastern stores but Sahar beats them in product selection and prices also. I love this place! Staff are amazing and helpful.

Worst service in the whole Chicago. The owner is so arrogant, the cashier is looking at us like we bother him. Asked him for help he refused and said it does not matter if you don’t come that often.In a word stay away from it

They carry my favorite brand of flavored mineral water, called Uludag Frutti. Only 5 packs left on the shelf they come in 6 bottles per pack. I bought 2 sets of WATERMELON-STRAWBERRY. My older sister was looking for this flavor seen on their website. I came by for a peek, they had Peach & Pomegranate flavors also. YAY!! Doing my happy dance to the car.Update: WATERMELON-STRAWBERRY flavor is unique not my favourite. Lemon, Peach,Pomegranate, Strawberry I like to drink with my food like pop. They have a Green Apple that is a sweet like Jolly Ranchers candy.

One of the best Arab grocery store that I shopped in. The owner is a bro in business. He knows what to buy and he do his best to be different from other competitors. The prices are right, the quality is top and have so many things that is odd and makes you want to buy it on the spot. Great staff and fantastic customer service, fresh bread from Tanour, shark, Iraqi samoon up to ordinary pita bread.The father ( previous owner ) was a great man and he was supporting all the charity organizations may Allah bless his soul.I highly recommend them

The prices are abusively high if compared with other stores that sell the same items. The meat quality is far more than it normaly has to be, i would suggest they change the supplier maybe. The customer service is a con as well in this store as the owner treats his customers with a dry still face as if a sergeant talking to his soldiers, appears to be stressed and anxious but as a customer i an supposed to be treated with respect and he has to be helpful. Not recommended.

I love this grocery. They have every ingredient you can imagine -- dairy, dry goods. I purchased preserved lemons from Morocco and they tasted exactly like those I had in Marrakesh. They also have an old-fashioned butcher shop. I bought ground meat made from lamb shoulder - - to make kefta - - fabulous taste. And lamb chops. Tasted like the meat from my childhood. I cannot recommend this grocery enough.

Sahar International Market is the best. The owner and all the workers are very helpful, extremely patient and respectful. I tell everyone to come here. The owner is also very supportive of the community and more than generous with those in need. This store carries the best meat. Their products in general are always fresh, reasonably priced and you always find good deals. This is definitely a business you want to support.

We havent been there since this COVID 19 outbreak but our last visit was worth our travels from Appleton WI. They have an excellent selection of products, very pleasant young man at cash register, bulk tea is fantastic, and service is amazing. We loved this store.

The owner of the shop has kept prices low and had items in stock when every one else was sold out or price gouging over CoVid19. I was able to go to work and feel safe because Sahar had the items I needed to feel comfortable. I found Detol Soap, face masks, lemon colonge, and gloves, in addition to my regular weekly bread, cheeses, olives, and tea. Its a nice place to shop in and know you can find everything you need here.

Very nice international supermarket,it specializes in arabic,middle eastern, turkish and eastern europe food. it has fresh meat and chicken department.you can find all you need for your kitchen in one place.Employees and the owner are nice they can help you find any item you want.parking is a plus.

The selection of Arab ingredients if very good. Not so keen on the produce and their meat while it is Halal, is not the tastiest Ive tried. But oh my goodness, if you want any exotic grain, seed, nut or spice its probable youll find it there. And, it will be fresh because they turnover these items regularly.

Stay Away very bad business practice!!!!! Today I experienced the worst customer service ever. A young hispanic guy who pretended to be the manager refused to take two items back ($2.99 each) which were unopened & unused and also refused to charge me for new items totaling over $70. He was super rude, he claimed there’d be a sign somewhere in the store that says no returns and he wasted my time going over signs and that sign never to be found. Whoever is the owner of this place, I guarantee will lose a lot of business because of this guy, no more Sahar Market after Kebob for me and all friends in town!!!!!!!

This is a really nice store. You can find many different grains (I like their variety and prices),nuts, spices, yogurt, milk, meat products, Mediterranean products of course (pita bread, tahini, sweet, etc). The employees are very kind and helpful.

Very convenient location and stuff is good and fresh. We buy meat often and it is good.

I enjoy the variety of lamb and other meats they have. I also like knowing there is a place in the neighborhood where I can get some special items depending on the recipes i am cooking that night. I really like the lamb steaks I get from there. The people who work there are nice and helpful. I have not finished exploring the store, but from what I see this is going to be a place I will frequent often.

I came to Chicago 2 months ago from NYC for an event. And I came here for middle eastern goods. Because I was missing home cooked meals at home. I went their and the experience was great! They had everything and the workers their were great.

I have been shopping at Sahars stores for over 30 years. The current store is second to none when it comes to ethnic foods and spices. I love the fact that the store caters to the many nationalities that make up the Arab nation.

One of the smaller Nijiya markets so it can get packed during peak hours. They have meat day once a month and meats are offered at 20% off. Parking can be a bit hectic as it is located in a small plaza with thriving businesses. Dont forget a bag cos they charge 10c per!

I set out via the CTA today (11/28/18) from work in Evanston to Sahar Grocery in Albany Park for Persian ingredients and went out of my way hoping to get everything at one store because I couldn’t afford the time to go to both Devon Avenue for produce and a Persian dry goods market for the shelf stable stuff. Long story short, I was able to get many excellent Persian dry goods i was looking for in one fell swoop - dried limes, sour grapes, food grade roses, different syrups and flavored waters you can’t get in other places - but they didn’t have the produce I was looking for (fresh fenugreek... produce section is quite small). I was thrilled that so many products were kosher too! (Because I keep kosher.)I was surprised, after lots of careful looking, that I couldn’t find regular saffron, only saffron syrup. I also couldn’t find nigella seeds. Full disclosure though, I didn’t ask. Probably my fault. Great tea selection and frozen section was out of sight! The man who helped me at checkout was really great and friendly and fast.Only downside: I was awkwardly followed, closely, around the store by 2 women and a man and it was very uncomfortable. Sorry I was giving off thief vibes... I only wanted the store to take my money because DRIED LIMES. ❤️ If I hadn’t been given such attention, I could have stayed and shopped for hours, but instead cut my visit short.Go there, support a local business, spend money, hopefully you won’t get followed around the store. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Next time I’ll ask about saffron and nigella, and I hope the store will be able to sell more produce soon because there will be more demand.

The parking is small, but the store is fairly adequate for a weekly or even monthly shopping (item wise).

It was really difficult to find specific Turkish stuff in Chicago area. That market has a lot of them. Pricing, quality, serving and others very good.

It is a great store. Iranian friends can find many interesting stuff there, including Gaz, Kolooche Naderi, Lavashak, Halva ardeh, Sarshir ...The staff are polite and nice. Prices are good.

It was my first time in this store, so I am not sure about quality of service and products. But I know one thing: when you park in the parking area and go for shopping dont just look at the receipt you get, add another $140 for the parking guy who is waiting to hunt newcomers.It was Sunday afternoon (the day before memorial day 2017) and frankly speaking if I had just parked in the street in front of park-o-meter it would have been free that time of the week.I went for shopping, I get out, I put my receipt on the window so whoever who needs to know, can see that I was shopping there. I left for 20 mins and when I get back I have a lock on my tire and the guy is standing there saying that I am lucky to get there before the towing car arriving.He basically was stalking there waiting for me to get out. I mean he does not bother to tell you that you are not supposed to leave the car there, instead he is more interested to wait for the moment that a person put one step out of parking area to start his business.Dont go there, it does not worth it.
