The not-so-secret secret about Wicker Park’s Secret Agent Supply Co. store is that it’s really a front for the non-profit org 826 Chicago. The store has fun knick knacks, gifts, books, stationary and some spy-themed toys and gadgets but ALSO they sell the collected writing works of the students their organization supports. 826CHI is a non-profit creative writing, tutoring, and publishing center dedicated to amplifying the voices of Chicago youth- through after-school tutoring, field trips, and writing workshops for Chicago students 6-18 years old. All the proceeds from the Secret Agent Supply Co. store support/fund those programs- and 826CHI’s publishing arm also uplifts student writers from these programs by making them published writers. Check out the store & support Chicago’s young writers at the same time- it’s a win-win. The org & store also have a lot of volunteers helping, and it’s always a friendly place to check out.
This was a Chicago vacation high point for my family. It has so many unique finds and great stuff to inspire imagination. Everyone found something that they loved. Even better was the knowledge that our purchases were supporting education. I shared pictures of us with our silly purchases.
This is a non-profit literary organization that has a great little store front with lots of neat stuff for sale to support their programs.
Their mission is awesome and we love to support, theres books written by the youngsters in their program! All the awesomeness aside, this always a fun spot to visit and get cool gifts or just explore the imagination.
They have some cool art prints and programs to support local literacy. Thats why they get three stars. Other than that, the selection is the same as any novelty gift store youve ever been in. If you are in the area, stop inside but I wouldnt ever go out of my way to go there.
I have only good things to say about this place. The store itself is adorkable, and their 826CHI program was an enormous part of my child to teenhood. Its such a gem, and so are the people who work there. Long live the spy store and 826CHI!
Absolutely hilarious! This store has plenty of nice trinkets and the books that they sell are absolutely hilarious. Must visit and youll have fun even if you dont purchase anything.
The boring store is awesome. McSweeneys is awesome. This project serves a really great purpose empowering young people through writing. And the store in front is a really creative and fun idea! I definitely recommend it.
Love this little place! Unique items, my favorite is a little secret agent onesie we got for our grandson! Proceeds go to help Chicago school kids. Its worth going out of your way for.
A great place with quirky toys/books. All proceeds go to its writing program for youth.
Excellent customer service. Not as helpful as the hotel in John Wick for some more lethal secret agent needs. Literacy programming for kids is a nice sideline.
So many cool books, teaching ideas, and things for kids as well. Not to mention the fact that the mission behind the story is so doggone cool.
Website says they are open, door was open, shopped for 30 minutes only for someone to finally come up front and tell us they were closed and the door shouldn’t have been open. Said they didn’t even know how to run the cash register and sent my daughter and I away with her cry. Perfect end of our Chicago trip, my daughter in tears hating Chicago. I was about to spend over $100, yet was ushered out without so much as a “sorry”.
This place has new and cool products whenever I visit, and supports 826Chi, a wonderful education not for profit whos programming I can personally recommend. I became a volunteer here essentially so I could keep being a part of all the fun!
Bought all my holiday gifts here. Always something new when I visit this store which is great!
Cute gift shop with books, art prints, and knick knacks. Theres a few spy toys but it definitely isnt a thematic store.
Kind staff and all purchases go towards a good cause!
Awesome little kitschy spot with youth classes. Love it.
Fun store! This place always reminds me of Boris and Natasha. One could find anything there.
Tiny and cute. Mostly kid oriented or for gag gifts.
The Boring Store is a great place to check out if you are in the Wicker Park area. You could find Any random thing in this store that you might want to give as a gag or keep as a toy.
