This past weekend my partner, little brother, and I drove up to Chicago from near Fort Wayne, IN for a day trip to the city. Near the Gary area, our brake pads started going out and by the time we reached Illinois, they were grinding BAD. We called King Auto and not only did they take our car immediately, they gave us poor college kids a discount, and got everything done in just a few hours so our day trip could remain just that: one day. I am incredibly thankful and I would use their services again in a heartbeat.

My car began smoking on the Dan Ryan and caused me to have a bit of a panic. I pulled off the expressway and luckily found King Auto was only a few blocks away and open on a Saturday afternoon! Going to a mechanic alone as a woman who doesn’t know much about cars is always daunting and I was afraid of being taken advantage. However, the owner and mechanic were so kind and found the issue right away and fixed it in less than an hour (that’s with having to get a part). The price was more than reasonable and the service was excellent. I would recommend this place to anyone. I can’t thank them enough for helping me and their honesty!

If I could give zero stars, I would. I live in the SW suburbs (Frankfort) and I was headed into the city when I dropped my driveshaft on the Dan Ryan Expressway and was stuck on the side of the road. I called IDOT and they came and found me on the side of the road and he had told me that he had picked up my driveshaft a little ways back and returned it to me. He told me that there is a dent in it, but it stilo may be usable. I get my csr towed to King Auto because they had good reviews and it was less than a mile from where I was stranded. They call me the next day and tell me that I need new u joints and the yoke is slighly bent and that they could fix it. He told me $373 or $350 cash out the door. He then kept pressing the cash price and now I know why. I go there to pick up my car and paid the $373 for the credit card price. I was driving home and stuck in bumper to bumper traffic when I noticed that when I approached 25-30 MPH my Explorer would start shaking really bad and it would get worse as I tried to go faster. They were closed the next day so I called 3 times between 9am and 10am on the monday afterwards before they even answered my call. When they did answer they told me to bring it in and theyll check to see if all the clips were sitting properly. I told them I would, but as I was driving to do so I did not feel safe becsuse of the death rattle my car was making so I took it to my local shop just to see if it was safe to drive back 30 miles into thr city because I couldnt afford to pay for another tow if I got stranded again. Originally they thought it was possibly out of balance until they drove it and put it on the lift afterwards. I got a call from the place saying that theres a dent in there (which i had seen with my own eyes previous and told the mechanic at King about when I originally arrived to drop of my vehicle) and that there was no way they should have even tried to put the u joints on the original driveshaft. This trusted place that I took it to and was giving me the feedback told me that they could get me a driveshaft from the junkyard, but theyll have to get new u joints for the replaced shaft. They did all this for $200 out the door. Half the price for what King Auto charged me to put new u joints on a defective shaft. After receiving this information from my local shop, I tried calling King Auto later that same afternoon to report what I had been told. I spokenthe the manager at 4:34 pm and was told that I would get a call back from them in 20 minutes( so should have been by 5 pm) and they are open until 7 pm. They never called me back. I called tuesday morning 7/2 and they gave me the run around that I told them that I was going to bring my car back to them and since I didnt they werent going to do anything for me. When I told them it wasnt safe for me to do so because I was afraid of another breakdown, they told me basically I was S.O.L. I am now in the process of filing a civil lawsuit against these people because I paid them $373 and actually made my car worse than it ever was and ultimately costing me anothet $200 at another shop to get it fixed properly. These people knew they had me in the palm of their hand since my car was towed there and didnt have a driveshaft so it wasnt movable. Severly dissapointed to be taken advantage if this way.

This place is a total rip off, the mechanic that did the service on my car was trying to charge 2x the price on the parts and i was still having the engine light come on. I would not refer anyone to this shop.
