Ive had, most recently, quick and excellent service for my oil change and tire rotation. Thanks Car-X. I have also had other services including brake pads and rotors replaced. They always do a consistently good job and the prices are very reasonable vs other car maintenance and repair businesses. Id recommend Car-X on Irving Park Rd in Chicago to anyone.

This is my first negative review of any business. I have been bringing my car here for oil changes and general maintenance for about 10 years. I brought the car in to get the handle repaired. It wouldnt open from the inside. They quoted me 540 (that included fixing the liftgate sensor.) Once I got there to pick it up the charge went up to $720 because they needed to buy a new handle assembly. Ok. Things happen. I got home and tried to open the door and the plate behind the handle fell off. Clearly the tabs that hold it in are broken off. It will stay on as long as you dont use the handle. They had to know that and let me drive home. I dont have the time to go back. Ill have to find a way to fix it myself. They got me on this one but lost a lifetime of oil changes and other services.
Today 10/02/21 I stopped by for an oil change, the guy working told me they were closing early at 3:00pm, I know that he ways lying. I made and appt online at 4:30pm, I called to see if I could bring my car at an earlier time, the same guy told me they closed at 4:30pm, so he was lying all this time, he was just being lazy, didn’t want to work. I ask for a manager, he said he was! Terrible!
Worst place ever. Employees are so lazy. Brought my car in in the morning and asked for it to be serviced guy said to do it myself. Brought the car back later and told the employee that the car is over heating and didn’t want to look at it said he couldn’t help me.
Huge shout out to Jessie. My catalytic converter was stolen off my prius yesterday, Jessie was so kind to me. He got me a Bottled water, kept me company showing me pictures of his adorable 3yr old son and lovely fiancee and tried his best to help me on the price to make what was a very upsetting ordeal sting a little less. I was so happy with his professionalism and sincerity I came back the very next day so he could help me with more much needed maintenance to my car. 10/10 I would visit again just from this experience.
I took my car in to get the spark plugs changed and coil for a cylinder misfire code I knew was happening per Auto Zone device (for check engine light). I asked Nelson for all of the parts before I left my car with him. When I came to pick up my car. I asked him for the parts and he only gave me the coil part. He said he doesnt know where the spark plugs are and said to come back Monday or Tuesday for them. He told me he did not charge me for the spark plugs but did not indicate the work was done on the receipt so I asked for one for Warranty purposes.The same day, my check engine light came back on so I took it to my friend to check it. He told the spark plugs were never changed. He showed me and explained to me what should have been removed etc. And nothing was touched. The dust was still on all the parts and everything looked as it was when I took it to Car-X. I called Nelson and he said to bring my car in and he would hold the person responsible. No thanks. The trust is lost at this point. Did they think because I am a woman I wouldnt know anything about cars? Take a picture of under your hood of the car and go to Auto Zone first for the diagnosis if you can. Do not trust them. Waste of money and time. 0 stars.
I needed an oil change before a road trip tomorrow. My husband is big in customer service and so am I. These guys were great. They were reassuring and professional. And, it isnt just me. They were great to a guy in distress as well. I see why my husband brings our car here for maintenance. I was low on gas. The gentleman behind the counter kindly reminded me to fill up, joking along the way. We will certainly return to them.
If time is of the essence, go somewhere else. If details are important, go somewhere else. If all you need is a plug in a tire I guess this place will work.They told me it would be 1:30 to change my tires, so I waited. It took 5.5 hours for them to change 4 tires. And they broke a valve stem. And the tires indicate 45-65 psi but car-x decided 32 psi was enough.

I am beyond upset, I have referred multiple people to this place and have been going here for years and they took more than 1 month to find 1 part- Nelson told me to bring my car back on Wednesday, it is now Friday and there still not even working on it! They arent considerate about there Customers time. Never again will I come here for any type of service, and I will make sure all of my family members who still come here, wont!! Jessie the manager Assistant was a really inconsiderate as well!

This place is fantastic. A true neighborhood, down-to-earth business. I was told by the dealership that I would need rear disk rotors as well as pads and they wanted $464 to do the work and it would take 3 hours and I should leave the car. I got a flat tire and came to Car-X to patch for $30 and I asked them to do a second look and yes I did need rotors and while I could maybe skip the rotors he explained to me why it would actually take less of my time to do it all now. gave me discounts before I asked for them and was charged $299.99 and was done in 45 minutes. I do not know much about cars but the rear disk breaks were the originals when I bought the car 6 years ago so I am just happy to have Saved $164.Carlos was the manager who helped me and he was laid back and did not push me to buy additional stuff.
My car failed the emission test and this place was recommended by the emission center. I have been coming back here for oil change, new tires, brake lines and muffler. My husband brought in his car because he thought he needed a new tire but they just fixed it and saved him money. I am very happy with their sevices and honesty. I highly recommend this place. Nelson is very helpful and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this place. Better come in early, they are very busy.
So I have a question about your company values, my daughters car broke down on Saturday and she was within walking distance to your store, she called me and I must say I live in Pennsylvania, she called me on the the fourth saying her car broke down, I said just leave it we will figure it out after the weekend so she went back to her car today and still it wouldn’t start so she started waking to your location and she called me and said I don’t feel safe walking into this auto place, I said why it and my daughter said all the workers were looking at her and it made her feel uncomfortable, I told her to turn around and walk away, so I have a question for carx is that normal employee behavior that they stop working to look at someone, for once I’m glad it was a not just a phone call but a vide call, with everything going on shame on you carx for making a young female not feel safe walking into one of your locations

I just took my car to Car-X last minute to have a new tire mounted. They squeezed me in and told me to come back in an hour. It took a little longer than expected so the manager gave me the service for free without me asking for it, or even acting frustrated. That type of customer service is hard to find anywhere. I will definitely be bringing my car here from now on.
This Car-X is a good place to go for all things mechanical work. I’ve been taking my 2010 Chevy cobalt here for the last 5-6 years and they always do a great job. Nelson, the manager, always explains what might be the problem and how long the job should take. I have had my share of bad mechanics in the past and since coming to this car-x I won’t go elsewhere. Whenever friends ask about where to take their cars I always am first to recommend the Irving location. Also, they do emissions test here.
First ones in the door on a Saturday morning. left the car parked outside. said they would call when finished. didnt hear from them all day. called at 3:30 to see if the car was finished they stated they were busy and unable to get to it. if we would havent called they would have kept the car until Monday. car was left on the street all day. thankfully no parking tickets. Nelson (manager) was the person who signed the car in. apparently people from the neighborhood not worth their time.
I went to this place in the morning because my car would not start since it was short notice i was ask to wait because they where busy which i understood. while i waited for one of the mechanics to open i asked manager nelson while i waited for a tired quote but told me the computer was slow. So then a mechanic open and was trying to jumped start my car but didnt turned on i told him the night before some one had done the same thing and said nothing he continued to do what he was doing and at the end told me my battery was no good and needed to replaced it. I go back to shop and i see him sitting down with the manager nelson and i asked him again if he had the quote for the tires and his response was if i was making good money from the beginning i had asked regarding those tires he profiled me and made it seem they where too pricey like if i could not afford it, till the end which i asked he finally quoted me. VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND BAD ANALYZED MECHANIC THAT HELP ME, to end story my car had to get picked up by a tow truck and it ended being the starter. If i could put no star i would! BEST MECHANIC R AUTO FORCE
Their customer service is above and beyond. I felt very comfortable going in and I appreciate how much they were looking out for not only my car but me. Highly recommend, this is how a auto repair shop should be .They set the example.
Went to do a quick oil change and they didn’t put all of the bolts back and the heat shell broke off. Will never be going back to this place. The manager is terrible and wasn’t understanding that I was just here the day prior and this wasn’t an issue prior. I even heard one of the mechanics ask the manager that they still have to put all of the bolts back and the manager told them to not worry about it. Unbelievable.
This Car-X has the feel of a small, family-owned business. I have been going here for 6+ years and often send friends. I am always impressed by their honesty, speed, and friendliness. Once, something on the bottom of my car was scraping the ground. A metal plate had come loose, and the crew screwed it back on for no change. This was not the first time I have been to this Car-X and left without paying anything. They are good to their loyal customers. You can always call ahead and ask how long the wait is.
DO NOT GO TO THIS CAR-X. My family has gone to this shop for years. Unfortunately it seems they are under new ownership, or simple no longer believe in customer service. Our car ran into significant issues after our last repair. After communicating with management and being assured we would be take care of they fought the warranty terms. Mistakes happen and parts break but own up to it when it happens and honor your warranties. I would highly recommend not going here they are not trustworthy.
Excellent service!Jose and Nelson are both great!Came in late afternoon for a brake job and expected it to take the rest of the day or that Id have to bring my car back another day for them to finish. Jose said he could have it done plus an oil change in 90 minutes. Whoa! Even with a part that had to be ordered my car was still ready shortly after the promised time! Awesome!Very fair prices and excellent customer service plus Jose and Nelson were a pleasure to chat with as I waited for my vehicle. 2nd time in a row, the same exact employee turned me away. He wears glasses. This is not nelson I am talking about, its some other dude who wears glasses. His attitude was lazy & standoffish. Both times his excuse was I only have 1 mechanic at the shop...what a joke. I even went early today at 3pm for a simple oil change as this place closes at 7pm tonight. He just nonchalantly turned me away with lazy attitude. I had a lot of respect for this place & used to come here often. The addition of this employee has sullied its reputation.

These guys were great - while heading back to Wisconsin one evening, we noticed one of our tires was losing air. We called and were told to come right in, even though it was a half hour before close. Initially it looked like there wasnt a problem, but upon further inspection they found a small nail in the tire. They patched it up and sent us on our way, free of charge. Very helpful, fast, courteous service!

Took the van in because of sluggish running engine and sputtering. Dropped it off and the guy called my fiance back and said it would be $1350 in repairs for all new ignition coils and spark plugs. We had just had new spark plugs put in a month ago!We told them no and got our van back. I ran some tests on the coils at home and found one bad coil. Bought the one bad coil at AutoZone and installed it myself for a whopping $44. Van runs great now!These guys are greasy and will rip you off whenever they can. Dont go here! They are your typical Chicago bogus repair shop.They even saw that we have a small child, and they still are trying to take $1000 plus from us.

Met Nelson after coming from a competitor who was unable to diagnose my cars issue, after having it for 2 weeks. Nelsons a quiet guy, but took the time to hear me out. After explaining my issue, he had me speak with Carlos, one of the technicians. Carlos listened to what i had to say and insisted that we take the car out for a test drive to try and see if we could replicate the shaking, which we did. Car was fixed and back on the road in a few days. Will definitely recommend and return to CarX!!!
So, I cant tell you how happy I am with Mr. Nelson and his team! I was referred to his shop from a friend. I went to CarX with a list of things that i needed to fix on my car from the toyota dealership. They went through my list and said that all the of the suggested work was not needed and that my car was fine. His FREE inspection saved me $3,000!! VERY REPUTABLE shop. Thanks, guys!!

The place does fine work but they will try and rip you off at any chance especially if you are a female. Twice m wife has brought her car in there for repairs and she paid it and the prices were insane. I have called back and questioned it and they have actually given money back because of how bad it looked. They also had her do repairs that werent necessary which is also infuriating. Its buyer beware so its shame on us but if we can help other people avoid this scam we would feel better. There are 5 other car repair places with a 10 block radius and i would suggest sending it to one of those places.
Work is usually done in the same day, quality stuff too. Nelson the owner is a really fair and trustworthy guy and will always give you a good price. I dont go to any other shop in Chicago and neither should you!

After my initial negative review here (and to corporate), I got a call from Jeff, a regional manager from Car-X. First, and most importantly, Jeff sincerely apologized for the way I was treated at this location.After a couple of days, we talked and set up an appointment and the initial problem was eventually fixed.The sincere apology, the phone calls and just the general concern shown to me afterwards to solve the problem, showed me that Car-X really cares about their customers. Im happy and I feel like I was treated more than fairly for what happened. I would definitely recommend Car-X in the future if you want the best customer service that goes above and beyond anything Ive seen from a car repair establishment.Thank you, Car-X!
This guys are totally useless. We have 2 cars. One of them had a noise on the suspension. They checked it, and after 1 day, they told me that they found nothing. I took the car with Auto Tech (3017 W Irving Park Rd) and Tony Mjukian, the owner, found the front struts broken, and of course he replaced them. The second car, a Mazda 2011 had a problem with the transmission. I took the car with Nelson again (Im only 50 ft away from them), they had the car for 3 days, they told me that the car was ok. I said no, the car has an issue with transmission. They had it for another 3 days, finally they told me that they found nothing. I took the car again with Auto Tech, and before I finish to explain Tony what was happening, he told me right away that it was a transmission problem. He fixed it. How this guys werent able to find 2 big issues ? They are useless. If you want a real mechanic in the area, go with Tony ( Auto Tech). He is a real mechanic, no these guys. Of course I wont back with Nelson anymore.
This place is great! We go out of our way to come here, and have for around five years. Fair prices, no surprise add-ons, and the mechanics freely offer advice even on things they are not currently working on for you. Nelson (the owner I think) gets straight to the point and doesnt try to needlessly upsell you on anything. Nobodys excited to go to the mechanic, but Im glad this place is around for when we need it.

Nelson, the Manager and all the mechanics at this location are beyond awesome and some of the best in the business. I have trusted my car to them for what seems like forever. From great service, trusted workmanship to price, this is the place to come especially if you drive for others such as Uber, Lyft or delivery such as GrubHub. They will have you in, out, back on the road with an expert and affordable repair in no time. Go nowhere else but here!
TL;DR: Do not come here for anything outside of minor routine maintenance. They tried to charge me $1150 before labor for a repair that cost me about a 1/4th of that elsewhere.Our car broke down last Saturday. Because of the massive snowstorm that hit, they were busy and understaffed. It happens. We understood.They told us they would call us. Nope. We had to keep checking in. Finally heard from them Monday evening right before they closed (we called them, of course), with the news that the part alone (a bolt inside our ignition switch) would cost $850 before labor (they claimed this was a common issue with my car and the part was backordered through Nissan). This bolt would cost more than a new transmission for my car (MSRP for a transmission for my car is $839). They also said the cost for recoding the keys for the ignition and the doors would be another $300+. Over $1100 for this. My car is a 2012 with under 70k miles on it. This was horrifying.I called the Nissan dealer they claimed to have called to try and confirm that this was an issue with my car model, assuming it was something I might be able to push as a recall issue. They had no idea what I was talking about, and said they could fix an ignition that day with no problem.I sent my husband back on Tuesday to ask for the exact part number so we could call around to other area mechanics for estimates. Not only did they refuse to give that information, they now claimed a different part of the ignition was broken (first they said it was a bolt, now it was multiple cylinders inside the switch). They claimed it wasnt something they could fix, but a locksmith could. No price estimates, no time period, nothing. My husband left flustered, and I called them while I was at work to let them know we were going to have it towed elsewhere the next morning. I told them not to not have anyone else touch the car until we towed it. The person I spoke to agreed and said it was fine to bring it somewhere else.My husband went back on Wednesday morning to get the car towed, and the people working actually tried to refuse to let us take it. We never signed our car over or anything. They legally could not hold our car.When my husband put his foot down and said we were taking the car, thats when the true colors showed. The blame game began. They claimed that someone who had been hired two weeks prior (and was still in his probationary period) had been working on the car, and it was his fault for trying to overcharge us and giving us incorrect information. If this person was on his probationary period, who and where was his supervisor? And if they knew he was giving us incorrect information or doing shoddy work, why didnt they set the record straight when we called them a ridiculous amount of times? We talked to someone new every time we called. Unless theyre ALL newly hired two weeks ago, I dont believe the story they were giving my husband for one second. When he didnt buy it and started getting more frustrated, these guys wouldnt give up and tried to barter. They offered $300. Excuse me? You go from $1150 before labor to $300 on your first offer? They knew that repair was never worth that much. They just thought we were stupid enough to fall for it. So my husband got the car and left.This has been such a horrible experience, that we wont even come back for our routine visits. I would sooner go back out to the suburbs for oil changes.

The people that are giving many stars come there for small things. I have gone to this place for many years. One time my car had big problem because it wont run. One week latter they said that it was fix but it was not. They did this to me two other time. Same thing happen when I they had to repair my trai nsmission. There is another place like this by Inverpark and pass Pulaski that they will also take your money call Midas. They wanted $2,000 for something that was only $300. So once you have one of this bad experience or they want to make you pay so much money then dont come back or go to another place. Go to a small place. They do the best work and the price is good.

My awd transmission was acting bad and after a wile I was a F.ound O.n the R.oad D.ead!!! My ford edge is fun but awd transs die when you race other cars apparently hahaha.They found a replacement one and replaced it in about 3 days even after I told them to do a tune up! Very fast! They even took me in the shop to see the repairs from the lift!Havent had any problems since the repair last year, so great job!!!We sent repairs to other shops in the area and had horrible outcomes, so we will refer and use car-x in the future!They might not be smiling all the time, but if youre not a yuppie up tight fool, this is the place to go. They answered all my qualifications and I even shook the hand of the manager and owner.Im actually amazed that it only took 3 days. AND they let me use a car to get around wile it was being serviced!It wasnt a rolls royce by any means hahaha but it drives!!!Crazy how different cars are now.Used to have microscopic mirrors and massively long front and rear end. I just hate cars. So low to the ground. Small SUVs are my thang.
