I brought my 2016 yamaha r3 for the first time at Acme cycle after an accident, i also did an oil change a month after that. My bike is now as smooth as the day i bought it ( bought brand new)Without a second thought, I will keep on bringing my motorcycle to these guys for all my future needs ( service, repairs & parts installation)Theyre professional, honest and fair. They do the work quickly and perfectly. What more could you ask for ?

I’m a brand new rider with an older bike that needs some love. I tried to fix a few things and it wasn’t running healthy. I needed new tires and an overall inspection. I was expecting a long list of repairs “needed”. Scott recommended only what needed to be done. I was treated fairly and respectfully. I recommend Acme.

I was getting ready for a last-minute 2K mile bike trip and realized the rear tire was not going to make it. I normally do my own work but did not have the time. I called around and looked online and no one could take care of me right away or did not have a tire I could use, except for Acme Cycle Chicago. I talked to the owner Scott Lunt and we discussed the tire options he had in stock and that if I wanted I could come over and they would take care of me right away. I got there and Scott had what we discussed on the phone and took my bike in right away. A nice waiting room, nice selection of old, new, and unique bikes around the shop. Scott was very professional, we talked about his getting into the bike shop business, riding, etc. The price was a little more than I would pay online but less than most of the other shops around. He had it in stock and on my bike the same day. Win-win. I will be going back if I need any other service I cannot take on or have time for.Background. I am an ASE Master Tech and the bike is a 2008 Kawasaki C14 with 50K miles on it and it still looks new.I had zero bike issues on my vacation. Thanks, Scott.

I brought the first bike I ever bought here to make sure it was safe. Scott got my Kawasaki CSR-650 sorted out for me as best he could. He called to let me know that fixing my high idle issue would require opening up the engine. Advised me that the work would cost more than the bike was worth, that bought my trust. I did the same with my 1400 Intruder that had its front wheel hub cracked. I brought them a new wheel to replace it and I was on my way. I brought the intruder back in for a few issues and asked them to take a look at everything else to make sure I was good. They sent me a diagnostic with estimate before they did the work. Havent had a bad experience yet.

I have only one word to say about their customer service... Condescending.Prices are a little on the high side, but if you could do the work yourself, you probably wouldnt be taking your bike here. I can honestly say that the work I asked them to do was done well and quickly. So there are no complaints there. It would be a much better customer experience if the guy behind the counter could learn how to treat customers with respect. I might even feel good about paying their high prices. I asked pricing and was given a flat value. No hourly rate or estimated time. I very clearly stated I wanted to drop it off and pick it up by the end of the same day. I was told to bring it in Tuesday anytime, no other drop-off instructions. Front garage door was shut, so I went to park in the back instead of on the sidewalk. Found some people and started talking, another man interjected telling me to step back lol. Okay. Show him my bike and explain what it needs. Asks me to bring it to the front. Okay, ill park it on the sidewalk. Fill out the info they need inside. Double check I will be able to pick it up by the end of today (I need transportation to work tomorrow). Tells me no, it will take a few days. Now he, Scott, explains its normally $95 per hour and $135 per hour same day service. He acted ignorant about me clearly asking if this could be done the same day. Why would I surrender my bike for multiple days for a few hours of work? Ill just save my money and do the damn thing myself. Typical sneaky repair shop. Read the email yourself and ask if it was or was not clear. (Tuesday April 2, 2019)Update: I was absolutely polite the entire time even when I left and immediately did all I was asked. I asked when I could bring it in and get it back the same day, you said Tuesday. These guys think we are idiots and treat their customers as such. Could have been straight with me from the beginning. I doubt you can be until the end either. And here you are being dishonest about my review to dismiss it. Shameful.

They said about two weeks to get clutch cable and total price with his parts will be around $200.I called next day and i asked for price if i bring my clutch cable in 2-3 days and they said $225 with my parts and they can change same day when i bring parts. They changed same day with my parts, and i think its overpriced for no more then one hour labor. So only for labor and clutch cable replacement price of $225 is too high. I called others shop and they said 70-80 bucks for labor...

I suggested a bigger wrench and possibly impact but he scoffed and assured me the threads were garbage or someone had epoxied it closed even though I am pretty confident that is not the case. When I said that he staunchly reminded me Sir, I am a motorcycle mechanic.... then proceeded to tell me he didnt want to touch it because he knew if he broke the motor i would write him a bad review (wuuutttt?). Not very courteous on the phone but not important, I am a big boy I can get past that---He did suggest suction cup alternative way of changing the oil on my own which was nice. Fear-based selling of their services with sexist tendencies. My little sister just got the family hand-me-down Suzuki 250. The bike is used and beat up, but it runs and has been a daily rider for several people this summer. I told her to take it to a shop to get a tune-up and she picked Acme Cycle. An hour into the service, they had run up a $240 charge already and still didnt tune it up. When she asked to get her bike back and leave, they tried to SCARE her by saying the motorcycle was unsafe, because of a sticky choke-cable. They wouldnt release the bike and held it hostage. My sister had to call me, which I immediately went the shop. After I got there, they released her bike. This is absolutely insane, the mechanic that worked on her bike was a complete sexist who tried to take advantage of a little girl and her new motorcycle. What if she didnt have me to call?? She would have been forced to pay their up-selling which they tried to justify as a safety concern. Just seems funny that they gave up all that scare tactic nonsense as soon as I got there.Im sure they do good work, just be weary if you are new to riding, or a girl.***update: 7/7/18. The owner of the shop doesn’t care about customer safety. Its a business and such he only cared about a liability waiver getting signed. He wouldn’t even turn around and talk to us when I got there and made one of his employees talk to us. Proof that he felt more secure about talking down to a young girl than me.

I have previously written to laud the wonderful folks at Acme Cycle. In my several years of bringing 4 different kinds of bikes (ranging in age from 47 years old to brand new) to Acme, they have always acted with honesty and integrity. They totally stand behind their work. I am writing now because Scott Lunt, the owner of Acme, once again came to my rescue in a way that is way above and beyond. I was riding my 77 Harley Tuesday, on I 90, (I know, anyone who rides in 8 degree weather probably should anticipate trouble) when the bike stopped running and wouldnt start. A call to Acme brought Scott with his tools. While I unfroze in his car, Scott diagnosed an ignition switch problem. He was able to hot-wire the bike and I got home without further drama. Good luck finding another shop, or staff, that will do this!! Thanks, Scott!!

UPDATE: It was glorious riding season in the City, not going out until next Spring, thank goodness for global warming.Haven’t been back since they couldn’t get their act together. Haven’t seen the new place. Got my ride back in March/April from their “Winter Storage” and my ride stop going ... crickets ... make it go? Maybe?Went to the other place in Northwest Side of the City. Got my ride running again, rode all summer long, up and down LSD.Down grade in stars, putting on my tires on the spot = priceless, taking care of your customer’s ride like it’s yours = 2 cents.——Bicycle and motorcycle shops are notorious for having a bad ass attitude and little customer service, perhaps because of the aggressive nature of the people involved in both sports. Everyone is a racer, track king in their own mind, and the mechanics and sales people carry this attitude over. However, this shop is one of a handful that has staff who dont talk down to you, nor act arrogant and superior at your simple questions.Got my tires changed while I waited, they use an internal fluid to balance your wheels which work as your tires wear down and acts against flats. Theyll comb through your vintage machine and tell you what needs to be done right away, and what can be put off for the winter months.

Avoid this place. Im a new rider and I brought in a bike I picked up from craigslist to get inspected. Quoted $200 for repairs, and they asked if I wanted them to try to un-bend the rear brake lever (it was bent). I said no thank you. I come back to pick up my bike, and the total is $350. When I asked why it was $150 than what they quoted me, they said it was because I had asked them to add some coolant after the quote. Fine, they gouged me, at least my bike is solid now. I go to my bike and find that the rear brake lever has been SNAPPED OFF. When I go inside and mention this, the mechanic comes out, apologizes and says well, go buy a new rearset and bring it over so we can put it on. He refused to do the labor for free, no money off the $350 bill I just paid, no nothing. He just wanted me to bring him more business. No thanks, plenty of other shops in Chicago that wont break my stuff. They get two stars instead of one because they were good about returning my calls/communication leading up to the inspection.
