I pass through this location often but I never thought of checking it out. My thought was a market for Thai and China people.Today a friend said she needed a particular type of fish, we came here, got the fish and met a lot of people who are not even Asian. The manager was splendid. He is active, smart and professional. If you too want to try something different, check out this place, you will not be disappointed.
Quite well stocked for a small grocery. What stands out the most is not only that they carry a full array of Asian items, but that they carry multiple different brands of the same items. I especially noticed this in the canned and sauce sections. For each type of sauce or canned item, there was usually more than one brand to choose from, and often from a variety of brands, not only sticking to one or two throughout the store. They are located within a small parking lot which makes it easy to park and buy groceries without a long walk to carry them. The vegetables were fresh and in good condition, all prepackaged in plastic with the price preprinted. The locally made Vietnamese desserts that I purchased were fresh and tasty, each one was $2.50, a fair price. One had rice, peanuts and coconut, with sugar to sweeten, and the other one was a yellow and green striped jelly cut into squares. Delicious!
Well stocked Asian grocery store. Prices are good, quality seems to be fine. Its a little run down and could use a major cleaning/overhaul.
Have been shopping here for more than 10 years. Great price. Fresh food. Perfect for asian food lover.
To a non Asian like me its an interesting store. As there are many items frankly I have no idea what they are. But if you love Asian foods, its worth a browse as you never know what you might find, and later love.
This market and parking lot are always busy. The market has really fresh herbs and vegetables. Good place for Asian dey and canned goods.
This Asian food market in Argyle is a little cut above the rest with varieties of spices, sauces, oils etc. neatly stocked and labeled clearly. You can also find the usual Noodle brands - Ramen, Soba, Cantonese Noodles etc,The seafood section is a little messy but decent options in terms of live as well as dried fish.
Oriental fresh and/or dry grocery goods you look for, hardly you miss it there. You want your fresh meat sliced or fish clean & sliced, Tai Nam will do it for you.
Youll find just about everything here. It could be a little more clean and organized though.
I love my experience there. It has lots of vegetables, almost all the kinds of sea food, tapioca seeds, coconut milk and cream, so many fruits like, jack fruit, guava, passion fruit, Grated sweetend and unsweetened coconut etc... Lots of Asian stuff
Like most Asian markets this place doesnt have the most pleasant smell because they still keep their fish out in bins with shaved ice on them. Not the most sanitary, and may need to upgrade. Have gotten several things that have either expired or went sour because their inventory management is also lacking.
Its pretty good when you get the food thats the food I gave when I got to go to work in my factory.
This place has been my go to asian shop. Reasonable pricing all the time and they usually always have what Im looking for in stock. The new lighting threw me off for a second but its nice and bright. The new coolers where all the frozen seafood is nice and organized now as well. The staff has always been polite.
Excellent grocery . have all kinds of supply and with reasonable prices.
Hate the distance to Argyle, so far from the motorway and so many traffic lights. But why you gotta have the best Vietnamese food and Tai Nam!? Cant a guy just eat and shop where its 5 minutes even 10 away?I give up. Im hooked. I keep coming back for more! Great Asian food, groceries, bread, produce and snacks at great prices.Tip. The giant Milo tins are $10 cheaper than Chinatown!
Great Asian foods, very fresh seafood, huge tea selection. They carry a locally made tofu.
A great place with good prices. A large selection of noodles. Vietnamese and other Asian food can be found here. A small yet well stocked store.
Authentic Asian grocery store. Lots of choices.
Good $ shrimps head_on. Rice vinegar is available& Jasmine tea & blk tea.
The prices where quite fair and the selection was good. Gave me the feel of being back in small town asia. Friendly enough staff, and well maintained. Will be coming back, especially if my attempts to get my wife to cook phố are successful.
The best shop for all of the exotic and practical asian foods, snacks, beverages, fresh meats and veggies, dinnerware and cutlery, and so much more. A simple, no frills one-stop-shop for all things freshly and uniquely asian.
Great selection of fresh veg, frozen vegan meats, canned vegan meats, and fresh tofu & noodles. Great bulk dry goods including spices and rice as well. My go-to asian grocery on Argyle!
A lot of vietnamese food and fresh veggie
Bad customer services. Everything is pricey!
Surprisingly giant. Great for meet, veggies ... And everything else
Good place to pick up seaweed and fresh lobsters.
They place is newly renovated and it is really nice now.
I think the space is newly renovated. I had a better experience than the last time I was there.
Great one stop shop for pan Asian ingredients, more inclined for Thai & Vietnamese cuisines but also has decent variety of other Asian ingredients in the little Saigon area in Uptown, Chicago and just off the Argyle red line stop.
Best Asian/VN market in Chicago. Has everything youll need for VN cooking.
Its very good food.
Nice place to get rare fruits and other.
Good southeast asian selection from Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia included!
We have been visiting this place for the last 2-3 years. Close to the all the vietnamese food restuarants and station. A lot of the vegetable and fishes that we dont get near our neighbourhood can be found here. A nice mix of Asian- Thai, Vietnamese, chinese snacks and dishes. Would be nice if they cut the whjole duck to your liking.
Great viet grocery store that has everything you need and more. Free parking can be hard to come by when it’s really busy. I like the prepared snacks and foods they have at the front of the store.
Tai Nam caters to most of your Southeast Asian food needs. The prices are great the selection of products is pretty big. They have aisles for sauces, teas, snacks, ramen, and plenty of other things. The only downside is that the parking lot can get very congested and crowded. If you come early in the morning you may see a line of cars trying to get in to the plaza parking lot. I suggest going in late afternoon to avoid this.
Huge selections on Asian rice noodles, vegetarian meat made by tofu and fresh Vietnamese and Thai herbs. If youre looking for unique gluten free rice noodles and pastas, this is the market you want to go. The place is very clean and cashiers are quick. Weekdays will be better time to go to avoid heavy traffic in their parking lot. 😂
No parking and they should fix the parking too. So many pot holes.
The sure destination for anything grocery! Always busy with people looking for discounts.
Theres always something I need to get here lol all the Asian snacks
First time there, great asian selection.
Thai-Nam short for Taiwan and Vietnam grocery store. I go there for the ginger candy and other special items that I cant find anywhere else.
Love this place. Youll find most of the cheapest Asian goods in here compared to the other grocers nearby. Its always congested inside though.
If you are not from the area... this is the best place to get your typical Vietnamese items: tropical fruits, rice, ramen, variety of ingredients, lottery tickets, traditional Asian kitchen items, etc.. They have the largest selections of common Vietnamese veggies and herbs (rau). Seafood and Poultry are available and okay, the sanitation is questionable here. I would recommend getting these items at another location. They have delicious pre-made baked goods, desserts, and food trays, I recommend going early when they are freshly stocked in the morning. I come here about 1-2 twice a week. If you do come go early or late in evening, the parking can be a nightmare especially on the weekends.
They have a wide variety of ingredients, spices, favorite Chinese food products, etc.I have a hard time finding some 四川 ingredients at other places, but they had them here. Also, prices are extremely reasonable for ethnic food. Authentic Vietnamese/Chinese grocery store!
Best oil tug ever for cheap... happy endingz
It was nice to shopping in that place nicely people👍👍😃😃
Great supermarket for SE Asian food. Great prices & selection of Vietnamese herbs, ready to eat desserts, baked goods, noodles & vegan faux Verisoy meats, including vegan shrimp (konjac). Always well-staffed and employees are helpful.
This is Vietnamese market so a lot of Asia food
Satisfied everybody courteous, prices some bit expensive love it, since I arrived in Chicago 21 years ago.
We come every month from an hour away, gotta come here for the fresh veggies and fruits, love pickbout snack from here for our kids
A great place and find for your Asian ingredients. Its a long trip by transit from the Southside of Chicago, but its worth it... if you have a long grocery list. Will come back soon
I definitely was a kid in a candy store coming here. As a non-Vietnamese Southeast Asian, I still found Dai Nam an ingredient paradise. They have literally everything I wanted and didn’t know I wanted. They have Indonesian sale pisang (plaintain fritter), various kinds of jarred sambal, gula aren (Indonesian black palm sugar, gula Malacca in Malaysia) and emping melinjo! Beyond the basic essentials like bird’s eye chilies, fish and cheap meat, they also have banana leaves (frozen), galangal, candlenut, culantro, Vietnamese mint, cassava root, and other things that go into a southeast Asian kitchen. More commonly known Asian stuffy like sushi rice or sriracha are here too, and I saw lots of non-Asians come just to grab these.
A busy hub where hard to find goods for Asian cuisine sits. Few can compare to its vast variety, quality, and price.
Tai Nam has a sizable variety of Asian food ingredients as a grocery store. I usually get my Asian teas here. Customer service is good and people respectful.
Love the people, love the place. Great prices and sufficient inventory. Many hard to find Asian products.
Coming from a more populated Asian community, Tai Nam has a fairly decent selection of groceries (produce, meats, seafood, regular groceries) that one would need for Asian cooking. I can buy everything for homemade pho there without having to go to another store. The prices, selection, and variety may not be like other places like SoCal and Houston, but it’s a whole lot better than out in the sticks.
Came here because its close to my dorm and the food is soot good! The service was great and they have a good amount of vegetarian options. I had the red than curry and coconut rice and I loved it. Would definitely recommend & come again! :)
Not feel comfortable.
Has a good variety of items. May be why theyre always busy.
Love this place!
Great service and honest
I can find ingredients here that I cannot anywhere else. My favorite place to shop.
Excellent selection of Asian groceries, including both pantry staples and a wide variety of fresh, hard-to-find produce items such as Thai basil and assorted choy.
This place is my new go-to market for anything thai only gripe is the cashiers make you feel like your not welcome there
They have plenty of snacks from Asia. Fresh meat and seafood. Fresh Asian vegetables and fruits! Ive been coming here for years and they havent disappointed me yet!
Lots of stuff. Couldnt find char sui auce otherwise very good for Asian. As in Chinese products. Not much for central asian
They need more room, too crownded
Thankyou tai nam
What an amazing place. Best market of the 4 we visited. Very fresh products. Be ready to wait in line. Every register in the place had a line. Amazing products and amazing service.
The rice are chiper and they have rice made in luissiana name jazzmen( jasmine)
Good variety of asian food, it is big, the place is as clean as a chinese store could be, so you can imagine the food. I always recomend to look for a korean market instead, almost sane food, good price and much more quality and cleanliness.I love these places though, the mess of food and live animals is unique
Certainly cheaper than a plane ride to Asia. Kind of a throwback, but great products and fair prices.
Parking is a bit of a pain here. Usually on weekends it will be difficult to find parking in their lot. It is a pretty small store so if you dont like crowds I would avoid coming on the weekends. Compared to stores on the West Coast they have a very limited selection of products and knowledge of their products. Their fresh baked goods and desserts are mediocre.
Prices are so competitive and reasonable. The place has a very attentive customer service. Will go back and be my regular grocery store.
A great grocery store with a variety of items from South East Asia, especially from Vietnam. But service was not the best.
The place where you can get almost all the Vietnamese stuff ❤
I always find what I need here.
I have been to this store a few times and have NEVER had a good experience but yesterday was the final straw. I came in for two items- tea and bread. I went to the register to pay. There was a couple finishing up and preparing to pay. The cashier saw me place my items on the belt. Another customer comes up behind ready to pay after me. The cashier says something to him and he says something back and he then comes and stands in front of me. I look from him to the cashier and ask if he is with the couple currently paying and he rudely says no. I then realize he just cut in front of me and neither he nor the cashier make a big deal or feel ashamed about it. Instead of making a scene, I put my items down and walked out. The amount of disrespect was outlandish. I dont want to state the obvious but it was clear what this was. I will take my business elsewhere.
I love this store. They have the most amazing selection Asian grocery items around Chicago even better than stores in Chinatown.I come here about once a month and get tons of stuffs. And most of the staffs are friendly and helpful. But not today. This pink lady, in the photo, was in bad mood or something. I asked her a question and she ignored me. She kept scanning my items and stacked everything at the back counter. And she made me pack everything myself. When I ask her to help me put something in the cart, she put one item in the cart and go back and stand in front of the cashier. Not very nice.I do not know what happened to this lady. But she is going to ruin Tai Nam’s friendly reputation soon or later.
They have all the Asian groceries I could think of getting. Worth the 30-min drive up north every time. Free parking in the lot, lots of friendly cashiers, and awesome variety in every little category I can think of getting here. Buying in bulk cases can save you a few dollahs here and there, which is awesome!
Good place to find asian products but dont expect great customer service. Most of the employees dont speak the general spoken language, dont expect a refund. And its also hard to tell who are employees and staff members due to the lack of uniform policy. Overall though, my mom comes here to shop only because they have grocerys that are rare to find. This store can be definitely improved upon skilled management and clean maintenance.
Great place to,shop!
A great little grocer, with a selection from all over Asia. Worth going out of my way for.
Where are now the ABC, Ibu Jari, and Belibis hot sauces from Indonesia located?
I really loved the selection of this store before they remodeled, now things that loved buying every month are gone :(
Best place for affordable Asian food, cooking materials, and snacks. I love coming here to get everything that I cant at most any typical grocery store. And even if another store has something Tai Nam has, it is always cheaper at Tai Nam.
Since I recently (a few months ago) returned from studying abroad in Vietnam, I have been looking for Vietnamese products and stores. This market has many Vietnamese and other Asian products. (Thai, Chinese, Indonesian, Filipino, Japanese, etc) and the stuff is good and affordable
I have visited the Store and had a good experience Until I went to the cashier. I had been to the store with my friend and Family and The cashier had been Very Kind but The person who had been in charge of bagging Was really creepy. He had said “ You want a bag?” Like in a Tone which was like If you had been a baby. He had asked questions towards me and My friend, I was really disgusted with him cause He asked what her name had been and I was to the point I had been creeped out. The cashier Seemed like she didn’t like him cause she snapped at him saying “YES Only One bag”. I recommend not coming if you want to be harassed and called “Baby”. Overall Experience had been decent but That problem made me not Wanna go anymore.
I like to come here for Asian stuffs because they have many things I like and the good prices too. But in the last fews week ago I brought ground pork from here and directed home to cook. And find out that ground pork is not fresh. It’s smelly. I put in the cooler and the temperature outside is very cold too. I stop buy meat from them.
Great place to shove and push through a crowd to get some vegetables but the food quality is amazing!
Has so many options, great market for Asian groceries. Could be cleaner and the workers could be nicer, but Im not complaining.
Nice place for Asian food.
