Been years. Was in area, thought why not. Too crowded to shop SAFELY for me. But went for their dumplings from outside attached shack. Still AWESOME. Especially their shrimp dumplings. Ate 10 if them in 2 days. If i was feeling better i could have ate them all at once. REALLY REASONABLE PRICE.
Excellent market. Fresh produce. Good butcher too. Store gets a little crowded and aisles are tight and narrow. A decent selection of household goods too. The best place for dumplings/buns too. They are at the walk up window just off the parking lot. Parking can also be tricky as the lot is small and oddly shaped.
Fabulous Asian Market!! Superb selection of fresh, frozen, and deli-fresh food. Plenty of options Asian and other. Decent prices as well. The dumplings outside for sale are AMAZING- worth the trip alone (parking is kind of a nightmare but there are spots- not the easiest parking lot to pull in/out of). The “dumpling set” was $11 and at least 2 meals of delish dumplings!! They also have fresh seaweed salad, fresh kimchi, and sushi-grade sashimi. Can’t wait to go back— they just have such a HUGE selection of food so I can’t wait to try more of their goodies!!
I cant imagine anywhere else in Chicago serving as a greater one stop shop for such a variety of Asian foods. Korea, China, Japan, Thailand and many other Asian food cultures are represented on the shelves of Joong Boo. I went in mainly to get a good soy sauce and Soba noodles but ended up walking out with additional items just because its packed wall to wall with interesting stuff! The cashiers were very cool and friendly as well as other staff and patrons. Cant wait to go back again to try some prepared food at the cafe!
Love this spot! The sashimi is on sale every Friday. Great for a make your own sushi night.
I wasn’t able to take photos of the place since we were too busy scanning the products that we wanted to buy and try out. The place was clean, it could be crowded, but people were respectful to each other and nice. There’s a lot of variety of frozen products—we bought some fish cakes to take home and Korean ice cream that I first ate in Asia. I bought some rice cakes from the bakery part of the grocery tho and I didn’t quite liked it, but everything else is good. We bought the snacks that we always love like Choco pie, and that assorted cracker snack. We bought some food from the kitchen too, it was okay. It tasted kinda like generic Korean food—I guess we are so used to eating in Korean restaurants that specially make their foods that’s why the cooked food here was just okay. It could be better. But everything else was really awesome. We will definitely go back and I’ll seriously take more photos of the actual place next time. I hope this evolves to a Mitsuwa-like market place someday.
Awesome market! Tons of options so theyre bound to have exactly what you need. The fact that they sell dumplings outside is awesome. Definitely my favorite Asian market Ive been to in the city outside of Chinatown
Nice neighborhood Asian supermarket. Its a bit on the small side and I thought theyd have a larger selection. Overall, glad to have it as there isnt any other Asian supermarket close by as far as I am aware.
Fresh sashimi and sushi. The dumplings set outside the store is to die for at only $11.
The store can be chaotic, but the prices and selection are great! The little food cafe in the back is amazing
One of the best asian grocery stores in this part of town. Parking is a bit rough though so Id recommend biking if youre just getting a few things and are close enough.
Wish they have more raw fish items.
Need to know if they had a product in stock. I was told to drive there an check! I asked if anyone else could help me and was to No.I then asked to speak to a manager was was told he wasnt there. So sad, I loved this store. Wont go back, Ill shop at Seafood City.
Everything is so inviting and the customer service is superb!
Stopped by to pick a Ramen for my daughter and its worth the drive in products selection and price 👌
This place is firing on all cylinders. Snack corner and the Wang window are both open. Top notch spot for Asian groceries and home goods.
The soon day gook (순대국, Korean blood sausage stew) in the food court is great. The stew contains the regular blood sausage that is actually noodles in casing but also has the actual blood sausage with meat and blood inside.
Great authentic 💜 Korean food and wares. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice little eatery in back of produce section... Yum?🌻
Food is great and grocery variety is excellent.
A veritable smorgasbord of asian ingredients and options with a wonderful little authentic cafe tucked inside.
They got that sweet sweet Melon Soda.If you know you know -Pusha TAlso got other stuff. Other sodas and whatnot...but they arent as good as the melon one! They got meat. I cooked it. I liked it.Customer service was dope too.
I absolutely love, love, love, this place! It has such an authentic feel to it. The food at the tiny restaurant inside is always amazing and goes really easy on the wallet. It’s gotta be some of the best valued food near Logan Square. It’s super delicious, and it is very healthy food as well. The items in the market are also extremely reasonably priced. This is definitely my go-to Korean spot near my house. I almost always order the Bibimbop from the restaurant inside, and the huge dumplings from the stand on the outside of the market are a must try item!
So many fun foods to explore that arent at your traditional grocery store! Aisles are a bit small but they have a second larger location in Glenview as well.
What a lovely shop! Theyll have pretty much everything you require. Im really grateful to have this grocery store as a valuable resource.
Love Korean food and I dont now a better place then Joong Boo. There I find everything I am craving for unfortunately that didnt had gimbal but instead we got potdtickers from the outside to eat on the way home.
Ive been going here over 20 years. Love this place. I once met Mr Joong Boo, I felt like I was meeting a celebrity.
They have the best lunch counter and the grocery is fantastic. Coming here is a pleasure.
Came here to eat, the food station in the back of the store is very inexpensive, but great foods and flavorful. the dumplings here are fire, but dont get here right at opening. people camp out for their favorite dumplings and buy out the shop fast, come about an hour after opening. I bought one of every dumpling and found zero that I disliked. all fire af
I love this amazing place. A must for any Chicagoan who lives Asian food. Their steamed bun booth makes the best buns ever. They are huge. One of them is a meal.
Bea bim bop was good. And the miso soup is delicious.
Good, clean, well managed Asian market. Mostly Korean with Japanese and Thai. The Wang Mandoo in the food court was great. Dumplings, bao bun, pancakes, and sundae. The cafe had all of the expected Korean food menu. Very clean. Very new.
The store had everything we needed to make homemade ramen and it was good. A cashier with pink hair and colorful makeup on was very helpful. It was my 1st time there and I will go back for sure.
Got plenty of tasties, hard to finds, and sauce central. Go, go, go!
Very convenient I dont have to drive to Chinatown to buy my noodles and sauces. Love this place
Good selection of grocery items. The staff is friendly. Tasty dumplings outside. Parking lot is tight towards the front; lots of room in the back.
I used to go all the time until I found some other places. Come here for the crushed dried hot pepper. They have a little bit of everything but mostly korean ingredients. If you want more selection H-Mart, Assi Plaza, or Seafood City.Update-02-27-19Sometimes I find some great tasting potatoAnd vegetables.
This is in my opinion the best Korean grocery the Chicagoland area. Its locally owned, and not corporate which is great. Also the restaurant inside is one of the hidden gems in all of Chicago.
What an amazing store, so much to choose and great prices, definitely going back.
Sushi tray is good value for money, but cant expect too much quality wise.
This Korean market is hands down one of the best in the city. They have excellent produce, seafood and meat, as well as liquor as an extensive household accessory and culinary market. So much in a small space you wont be disappointed.
One of the best Korean markets outside of Korea
I love the food is delicious ☺️
Love to make stop for to grab quick meal from food court.
Amazing variety and good prices. I buy all ingredients for Asian cuisine here.
The (only) place I go to get my hot kimchi buns! The cilantro, vegetables I get here are so much cheaper than the regular grocery store. I also go here for the frozen kimchi dumplings which you can fry at home or put them in your soups. The black sesame oil comes in large bottles also. All authentic produce.
The best Asian market in Chicago; always something unique and top notch boa buns out front!
A well-stocked market. A little tight in the isles. But if thats the only problem, its worth taking a look around through all the fruit and meat, fish and desserts.Delicious..And what about cookware? This place has it all. A dozen rice cookers. A dozen woks.. This market is amazing.
Great prices but the space is a bit lacking when walking around.
Super cool place to visit if youre ever in Chicago/Gurnee. Beautiful chopsticks and great food! The pork dumplings are so so so good.
Awesome place good food and shopping for what you need
Good service and great food, the price is a little high but its still in a affordable price.
Fine meats and korean grocery. There is a restaurant inside, and outside as well.
Here I buy all my ingredients for sushi from sea weed to chopsticks also utencils. They have a big section of goods to make your cooking completely Asian style. here you find all kind of seafood, fresh fish everyday.
I love this place. I get my seafood grocery from here. And the dumplings they sell outside are so good👌🏻!
Great place to shop Korean groceries. There is a dumpling shop just outside, which is quite food. The Korean restaurant inside the market is OK (although the dishes were too sweet). The prepared side dishes are very good and authentic. The meat and vegetablea are fresh. The prices are more reasonable than other Korean markets.
Got the dumplings! Best Ive had in a long time! Very friendly staff
This is the 1st authentic Asian market I visited and I can honestly say, from the suburbs, the 45 minute drive is worth it. I love buying sea food from here and I always buy a few new things to try. My husband and I tried dumplings from their walk up for our 1st time and they were AMAZING. 10/10
Some of the most authentic Korean food in Chicago! It was so delicious.
Seafood is excellent at this place. Its a hidden gem on 90/94 at the kimball-Belmont exit. This store has my favorite, live blue crab on Fridays and Saturdays.
Marvelous grocer with fresh produce, kimchi bar, packaged goods. Make sure to buy some baos in the parking lot on your way out!
I don’t know of any Korean Supermarket in the city that can compete with this one. Despite how it looks on the outside, it is quite large and extends towards the back. You’ll find your staple asian produce, seafood items and big frozen selections. They also have very good sushi and sashimi platters for deals! And a small cafe offering ramens and typical korean fare. The back of the store has other goods from housewares, clothing including varied tea selections. Fun trip ;)
First time going there and I love it. They have so many different things I never seen before. I went to buy boba to boil make at home🧋 and came out with many different things.
My favorite Asian supermarket in Chicago! Also, very good meat and fresh fish, which is why I am a regular there!
If you are into Asian cuisine, this is the place to go! The Bao buns for sale on the way out are a GREAT reward!
Good size store for every Korean thing you need
Nice, knowledgeable staff. If its your first time I and dont know what to get I definitely recommend a liter of peach makgiolli, a matcha or hazelnut pastry, Pokari sweat(if youve worked up a sweat) and a spicy steamed pork but from the vendor right outside. They also sell entire liters of yacool! The super tiny yogurt drinks you get for your kids.Oh, and dont forget boba! :)
If you are Korean and live in Chicago you’ve know. About Joong Boo for many years. For a small store it literally has every you need. Their cooked foods are amazing and the sashimi platter is a fantastic deal. Besides the staple products of kimchee, meats and veggies I get their prepared soups. Delicious and very affordable.
Great food and so much stuff I wanted to buy!
Customer service + plus on shell was experied food, Nobody checked!!
Best place for korean groceries nearby! Great selection of snacks and fresh produce. Awesome sashimi sale every Wednesday
A great little market with all the essentials that youll need. Theyve also got a great little stand in the front where you can get some amazing Mandu. The prices are reasonable as well so highly recommend.
Same as always, fair priced, good selection of Asian (primarily Korean) foods and house supplies. Been going there over 30 years now.
Good source of Asian food
I enjoyed shopping in this establishment. I found everything that I needed people they were very friendly and the food is fresh and the vegetables is fresh.
Nice pickled radishes that they package up themselves. Plus they sell awesome red bean buns outside.
I saw them on tik tok and I just had to go see it for myself and I love it they was so welcoming and nice 🥺 I’ll be definitely coming back every chance i get I’ll take that hour drive
I can’t believe it took me so long to find this place. They have a ton of produce, meat and grocery items. They have a mix of Korean, Japanese, Chinese and south east Asia items. Their marinated meats are great and I always get it. Love their snack corner where they cook dishes to go, always have a hard time picking what I want.
Lots of interesting groceries and a fantastic (whole) frozen fish section.store is cramped though... at times difficult to navigate, especially if youre pushing a cart 🛒the kimchi bar is amazing as is the tiny ramen restaurant in the back. make sure you have a place to sit before you order!easy to get to off the blue line stop @belmont...
Very reasonable price and seems all fresh
When I visited Chicago Joongboo market very first time in 1994, when I was traveling Chicago, I felt its very humble. When I visited here Chicago again n 1997, I stopped at Joongboo market again and I expected it to improve their interior. When I visited Chicago the 3rd time in Chicago, in 2001, after living in Europe for 3.5 years, I felt very Homey at Joongboo market ! ^ ^ Living in the World where is so organized, modernized, I found the value of here !Its been already 20 years living in SW suburb of Chicago, maybe Id visited about 80 % of Korean restaurants in Chicagoland, and found that Joongboo market kitchens foods are authentic and the best ! Menu selections and the taste are very satisfying except the apace is small. But I feel like I am at the outdoor market in Korea and thats another pleasure shopping here !Since I eat their 고기왕만두, pork Wang mandoo from 2012,I say that this is my Soul food !!!Whenever I shop here, I buy the Mandoo = Korean dumplings whether I eat at the site or bring them home and freeze them in a freezer, I feel happy and think its Worthy to deive for 66 miles to go and come !!!
I was told not to go on a weekend, because things can get cray, so we went Wednesday evening. You can get dumplings for $2.50 at the stand right outside, or head in the back towards their snack corner. The aisles are chock full of assorted goodies, which is great if you know what you want. We opted for the sashimi platter and all the fixins needed to make poke bowls for dinner. Will definitely be back when our supplies run low!
It is a small cozy Korean market, you can get most of the Korean grocery items. I regularly get sashimi tray from the market, and you will only pay $25 for a huge tray on Wednesday and Friday. Also, there is a bun/Bao stand in the entrance which is super good. Indeed, there is a Korean restaurant inside of the market. It is super good and price is affordable. Probably one of the favorite Korean spot.
I’ve been here twice so far the first time I came it wasn’t busy at all it was a great market to go to. The second time I came it was very very busy and tough to move around the market and try and social distance. But the selection is wonderful and the staff are really nice and super helpful.
