The gear closet is a great way to find some gently used gear and clothing. If your not if theyll have it, just stop by and you may be surprised. There is also the added benefit of supporting a local non profit when you shop here.
The staff is great and extremely personable. It can take a little digging, but I almost always find a great deal on something I need (or just want).
The Gear Closet is an excellent source for used outdoor gear and apparel. Their inventory is derived exclusively from donated and consigned items, which is great because as a non-profit this enables them to focus all of their proceeds towards benefiting clean water projects, both right here in Chattanooga as well as several ongoing projects in the Caribbean. With such a beautiful, outdoor oriented, city this establishment is ideally placed and suited. Some of their items are heavily used, but when this is the case the prices are definitively a bargain. Other items are brand new, or have hardly ever been used, which is perfect for the bargain conscious shopper. The Gear Closet comes highly recommended to anyone and everyone!
Great establishment. This local nonprofit consignment shop uses its proceeds to fund clean water projects in the Tennessee and Caribbean Sea area. Inventory can vary widely & every once in awhile youll find a great gem. Definitely a place to visit if youre traveling through or want to see a glimpse of Chattanoogas outdoor atmosphere!
Neat place. Lots if cool used outdoor stuff at reasonable prices. Some items you dont see just anywhere. Ill definitely be going back.
Well seeing as you can get better gear at goodwill I would suggest you save your time. Dirty and gross. I think goodwill would reject this stuff if someone gave it to them. Sweet girl who was working. Very nice service just a poor product product
Cool place. Lots of neat second hand outdoor stuff. Variety of items, changes often. When I was there they did have clothes, shoes, sunglasses, camping supplies, some scuba gear, bikes, and more. Building is tough to see, it sits back off the road behind another building.
Sells used outdoor gear. Trash and treasure/ diamond in the rough kinda place. Some good deals but a lot of consignment with sellers putting up some pipe dream prices on used gear. Proceeds support clean water initiatives so well worth the trip.
The Gear Closet is on the up and up. Its hit or miss, but every-now-and- then you will stumble upon a great find for cheap! Be on the lookout after large concert events. The Gear Closet helps clean up venues and collects lots of outdoor items people leave behind and resales them at the store for a bargain! After a recent visit I noticed theres been some remolding happening over the last few months to make the place more organized and inviting. 8.5/10 would go again.
A great place to pick up affordable, used outdoor gear. The people that work there are very friendly and super helpful. Will be back!
Prices high on some things and low prices on other things. Helpful staff. Quality used Outdoor gear.
Great prices! Pretty nice variety and a VERY SMALL amount of actually damaged goods (welcome to a thrift store). Though still priced reasonably!
Great places to pick up used outdoor gear at affordable prices. Money goes toward water quality education camps.
I used to love going here and finding gems in the rough, but lately their prices are so inflated on most of the small gear/ clothing that you can almost buy new for a few dollars more. I dont know what changed within the past year, but Im disappointed.
Great place find hiking, camping And all your outdoor activity needs . They are also a consignment shop . Check it out .
Showed up on tuesday at 4:00 when their big sign said they were open and they were definitely not open. If youre not going to be open during your own regular business hours, then at least post a sign. I do like that they support charity though.
Neat place to find good used gear .A true treasure hunt
I totally disagree with Clayton Skinners short sighted and harsh review of TGC. The location is excellent, the multi-bay garage where it is housed is well... a garage. It has been spruced up and is a great space for the kind and size of the gear sold. All proceeds from The Gear Closet support the local, non-profit Student Environmental Alliance, TenneSEA. Which teaches adults and children the importance of clean water, monitors local streams for cleanliness and builds wetlands to filter storm water runoff. The owner of the garage on Cherokee graciously defers much of rental costs in order to help support the critical cause that The Gear Closet supports. All the gear is donated or consigned by local citizens in a town where outdoor activities are are a huge focus. This is the only local outlet for reasonably priced, lightly used gear for the myriad of people wanting to try a new outdoor activity. I LOVE The Gear Closet and so do most of the people who frequent the establishment. I am sorry Mr. Skinner does not see the benefit of such an establishment.
Got a rain fly for my ol tent and some replacement poles for less than 12 pack! Check out their events lets make Chattanoogas water better!
It was awesome and we got a great pogo stix
Cool place. Worth a visit - especially right after bonaroo!
Great place for picking up used gear. All profits go to charity as well so its a win win situation.
The Gear Closet looks like a good place to get outdoor recreational equipment and clothing inexpensively. We went for the post-Bonnaroo sale, but didnt see anything that really interested us, but we will likely be back when we have specific needs.
A little difficult to find because it is behind the building that the GPS directs you to. Decent prices, but selection varies based on what people have brought in.
Loved it! Good selection of used gear at reasonable prices
At the right time you can find good deals!
Amazing deals on every kind of gear you can think of! And some you cant!
Good prices for used outdoor clothing.
Great place to pick up affordable used outdoor gear.
Cheap gear, good company, and occasionally free beer.
Great second hand outdoors gear shop.
Love this place! Never know what youll find.
Awesome place and fun people
Friendly staff, ever changing inventory and all for a non-profit that improves water quality locally and abroad.
Hard to see from road. Behind another building. Not a wide srlevyion. Its rather like a consignment shop.
Great selection!
Essentially a consignment shop for outdoor gear.
Great idea
Outdoor treasures abound in this little metal building off Amnicola, and you must be there to discover them. The inventory changes frequently, so each stop if a new adventure. Follow on social media for an unexpected, daily treat!
Its a cool store and idea. Not many stores like this. Hopefully it will continue to grow and get recognition. They also donate so I like helping a company that is also helping.
