I had a very good experience. My car needed a simple fix, and the sound it was making didnt sound like a simple fix. The guys at Baldwins got my car back to perfect (in a matter of hours) and didnt gouge me. they charged appropriately for their time and I was so happy. Finally, an honest shop that wont try to take advantage just because you are a female.

Fantastic service. Super upfront about everything that needed to be done and also the price. We were hundreds of miles from home on a roadtrip and this really saved us. He was super friendly and more than reasonable.

Baldwin is the place to go to for any repair on your car- but they are particularly good with Subarus! Jim is patient, friendly, quick and efficient. His prices are more than fair. And most importantly to me, he doesn’t talk down to me about my car/repairs because I’m female. (It has happened to me more than you’d think.) He explains repairs and does what is most beneficial for the customer, always. I’d trust Jim with any of my cars. I highly recommend this place!

I have had work done ranging from small problems to rebuilds done at Baldwin and have been happy every time. Jim is phenomenal with the amount of knowledge he has and is the most honest mechanic I’ve ever encountered. The prices are always fair and they really care about getting you back on the road without breaking the bank. I have taken all our vehicles here for years with no complaints. I wouldn’t waste my time or money on any other shop.

Jim is a great guy running his family business. He analyzes the situation and give you good work at good prices. Always willing to answer any questions you have about your vehicle. Great mechanic

78 dollar oil change...basically. Asked for an oil change and my car was making a funny noise. Solution: leaks. They said to watch the oil level and not to worry about it. They charge for the number of times they put your car on the rack apparently (word for word) then I was charged 18 dollars for using a debit card. Seriously?! Jim is a nice guy and said he would give a discount on the next oil change visit. But damn! 78 bucks for an oil change essentially. Bring cash!Recommendation: reward people for using cash (5% discount) dont punish them for using a debit card. Crazy.

I’ve had excellent service from Jim on multiple issues on my vehicles over several years. He’s diagnosed and fixed problems that dealers and chain repair shops couldn’t even properly identify - and at a fraction if their prices. Baldwin has limited resources and they only work 5 days a week but I thoroughly recommend them to anyone not in a big rush to get their car back.

Also known as Baldwin Automotive. I took my Subaru Forester to this shop in the winter of 2012 because it was smoking and burning oil. The owner, Jim, said that he thought it needed new valve guide seals, possibly new valve guides, and I agreed to let him fix it for me. After four weeks of never calling me once with updates and continually pushing back my pick-up date I finally got my car back. It ran fine for less than 3 weeks before I started noticing the problems returning. I brought it back to him and he said that the machine shop he had do the valve job must have not done it correctly and that he would have them fix it. Well, after another 4 weeks I had to call again to find out when my car would be ready. When I got there Jim told me that he had installed parts I never authorized which I refused to pay for. Not only that but the car is still smoking and as far as I know nothing was repaired at all. $1700+ and a total of 8 weeks out of my car and for what??? I urge you to take your vehicles ANYWHERE else. Also, when I received the car back the first time the power door locks had mysteriously stopped working and Jim refused to admit that it was something they had done. Unbelievable experience. Never again.

Jim and the folks at Baldwin have exclusively been my familys auto repair shop for nearing a decade now. Jim has fixed issues other mechanics couldnt figure out. These are good, honest people who do excellent work. I have never felt like anyone here was trying to take advantage of us, and what weve paid has always been more than fair. My first trip to this shop at eighteen, Jim fixed my broken door lock free of charge because he noticed it was broken, and felt it was a safety issue since Im a young female. Another time my check engine light wouldnt go off, and no one else had been able to figure out why since it wasnt throwing a code. Jim discovered a small piece of insulation blocking a sensor...voila! Problem solved.Cant say enough good things about Baldwin Automotive!

Jim is very helpful. He wrote down all the issues I told him about, and he addressed those issues in a timely way. I called to check up on progress and someone always answered the phone or called me right back. I have an 88 LandCruiser. They replaced all 4 brakes, the brake master cylinder, repaired the shifter, replaced the brake light switch, and fixed the windshield wipers. They had the car 3 days. I am going back next week to get a few other things fixed after the parts arrive. I will continue to use Baldwin Automotive.

Baldwin Auto has got to be about the best shop in Chattanooga. They are knowledgeable and friendly and I always have piece of mind Im taken care of. I have never felt like ive over paid for any service and if multiple issues require attention hes always honest about what is and isnt a priority. We had a decade old xterra from GA we had to get past emissions and he fixed it so well its passed every year since. Everytime we have taken one of our vehicles to Jim its fixed and i dont have to deal with that problem again. My Dad has taken his vehicle there for years and my wife doesnt want anyone else to touch her car! Jim is awesome he has a good crew and I would highly recommend them.
