My family and I have had nothing but great experiences at Grand Slam USA! We initially started attending just for the batting cages until my oldest daughter decided to step up her softball game. She took lessons with Courtney Rivera first and while she was great Coach Bos personality meshed much better with my daughters. My daughter used to be shy and lacked confidence in her skills. She performed well but did not believe in her abilities. Coach Bo has turned her into a softball machine, both in her hitting and pitching. She is not only a confident, loud softball player but she truly believes in herself because of what Coach Bo has instilled in her. Coach Bo cares about her players more then any coach I have seen not only in the gym but outside the gym as well!My son also attended pitching lessons with Coach Pete. He was beyond amazing with my son who has issues with social skills and can get frustrated when he doesnt preform well. Coach Pete took his time with him and helped him work through his motion giving him lots of techniques to practice at home. They joked and played and it was the most fun my son had doing baseball in a while. All the staff at Grand Slam have been exceptional and professional with myself and my kids. They are a loud, funny, client loving group of people who enjoy sharing their love of the game with everyone who enters their facility.
Coach Bo Rocks! Ive known Jessica Bowen for a long time, both as a player and now as a coach, and theres not a more knowledgeable and passionate softball coach around. The energy and enthusiasm she exudes has instilled a love of the game in my daughter that shes never had before. Bos coaching style is a perfect combination of fun and firmness. She has challenged my daughter to work harder than shes ever worked, yet shes having more fun playing softball than shes ever had. I also love how she constantly asks her students to reflect on what theyve done right or wrong. She teaches her students how to think about the game and how to coach themselves. Grace absolutely LOVES Bo, and her words, COACH BO IS THE BEST! SHE HAS TAUGHT ME SO MUCH ABOUT KEEPING MY WEIGHT BACK AND DRIVE THE BALL.
Words cannot express my gratitude towards the staff of Grand Slam USA in Matthews. My daughter has been taking Fast pitch hitting and batting lessons there since she was 7 with Jessica Bowen. Now at age 11 she is one of the strongest and fastest pitchers on any team she plays on. There is a major deficit of coaches in the softball word who understand how to coach young girls. What I LOVE about Jessica most is that she has taught my daughter how to be a confident female athlete who believes in herself even in the face of adversity. I truly believe Jessica has been the most important female role model in my daughters life over the last many years.
This place is the REAL DEAL.....HANDS DOWN, Coach Pete is a very patient with young players that are learning the game. My son has thrived since going to this amazing place. I highly recommend to this place to any parent getting their kids into baseball or softball. My Family Thanks coach Pete for all that he has done for our family. GUY IS AWESOME.
We have taken our kiddo to this location for a few years now, Bo, Jessica Bowen has been her hitting coach and from the first second we knew Cam would improve instantly! She is awesome! She knows her stuff and she has a way of teaching these kids to making them little pros! She is a local celeb around here;) if you are in the softball world and you dont know Bo, you need to!!
Jessica Bowen, Coach Bo is the best! My daughter, Avery, has taken both hitting and pitching lessons with her for several years. Avery has always been a power hitter, and I know Coach Bo helped develop what she has today. Coach Bo is very energetic and keeps lessons on task, but has fun doing it. The owners of Grandslam always remember their usual customers and will take time to ask about our day and how softball is going. They may not have top of the line batting cages, but they make up for it with the people and knowledge they offer.
My 4 kids have been coached by Jessica Bowen at Grand Slam for 4 years. She has improved the skills of the two older two children tremendously and they are playing on two very elite travel teams. As well, she is currently working with the younger two (8 and 5) and I can see the same results. She is an amazing hitting, pitching and fielding coach and if you and your kids are serious about attaining the next level (i.e. college softball) she is the go to person. We couldnt have done it without Jessica. Plus she is a heck of a lot of fun and the kids love going to lessons.
Jessica Bowen has worked with my son as well as some of his teammates. Always helpful, always insightful. Maybe even more important..she made it fun
Havent been in a long time but was in the parking lot talking on the phone and there was no one else in the parking lot.a woman came up and was very rude in telling me that it was a private parking lot and that target was a good place.i hope she treats customers with a little more respect.in response to your replie, whatever makes you feel better.i didnt know that i looked like a criminal, only moved about 20ft and sat in the rd right in front of your parking lot.me and my family have been there many times before but will not be back.
Coach Pete is awesome and my son, Ryan, absolutely loves going up there to train with him. My sons batting has drastically improved since he started getting lessons. We cannot get enough of this place!
Agreed on comments about Anger Management. There were three guys working. One guy up front working the desk and the shop, and two guys each doing lessons. The problem was there was no one to man the cages when balls would get hung up, which seemed to happened quite often. So I took it upon myself to tap on the ball carrier and cleaned out the clog. The guy finally came over yelling in front of everyone. I told him we had needed some help and he talked about liability, blah blah blah and didnt really hear our complaint. Our other concern was that the last cage on the end where we were hitting had a hole in the side of it and several balls were knocked out and could have easily hit someone. The door also would not stay closed and would creak open while my son was hitting. Again, a concern. There was also a father and son throwing the ball back and forth between cages where customers were sitting on benches. Quite unsettling to say the least.Anyway. Unsure if well be back.
$25 for 15 sessions (16 balls per session). Had batting cages for softball and baseball. Different speeds available. has a side area to practice pitching. Has a shop that sells baseball/softball equipment and clothing.
If you want to go practice hitting they have a wide variety of cages and even pitching lessons. I definitely recommend it.
Jessica Bowen has been my daughters hitting coach for over a year and I cannot praise her enough. She has not only improved my daughters batting, she has come along side and mentored her during the college recruiting process. Jess takes a personal interest in her players and has been known to show up at practices, games and tournaments unannounced to evaluate her players and identify things she can take back to her lessons.
We purchased a bat last year for my son and it was perfect for him. The knowledge demonstrated by the team at GSUSA was tremendous! This season we went back looking for a big barrel bat expecting to pay $200-$300. The young man helping us steered us toward the bat he used during his youth- The Assault. Again the bat is perfect for my son and better yet the cost was only $125 since it was the last one. Thanks GSUSA- see you next time we need a bat!
This place is CLOSED. This business failed to update the location was closed for ‘repairs’. Would have been nice to know since I just drove my kids 25 minutes to hit, and now we are having to turn around and find somewhere else.
Jessica is amazing! Brynn has excelled with her hitting with Jessicas lessons! We love her.
Just like the batting cages you remember when you were a kid. Coin operated. Can get hot inside as there is no AC.
To let the owner (I assume) or anyone else know, I had pulled in to the totally empty parking lot for a matter of three minutes just to write a text so as not to text while driving. Nobody was there and as soon as this person came flying up to me demanding what I was doing there, he started being very rude. I said ok, I will go across the street, no big deal, I left. After, I kept feeling this man was so wrong for no reason. If its a private property, I understand, ok, I left, I was just trying to be safe. I went on his website later and saw other reviews of the same type of complaints. I hardly ever bother taking the time to type out reviews, but when someone is so rude for so reason after I was already leaving has ticked me off all day.
Please clarify the previous review.... is the owner of this establishment making excuses to justify bullying young children by shouting at and frightening them for unknowingly setting off the alarm? I appreciate the review - I believe I will find more family friendly places to visit on our vacation!
Weve been seeing Coach Bo (Jessica Bowen) for several months now and couldnt be happier with the results. Jessica is as good as it gets when it comes to getting the best out of your player.
Wish the camps were here and not outdoors at a local field, but the facility and indoor batting cages are sufficient for most ages and skill level.
Practice rain or shine! Nice indoor batting cages
Friendly staff made us feel welcome on our first trip!
Only been one time; but love this for our grandkids!
It sounds like ms maraja has some bad little kids... What I got out of the story was that she was in the car digging her nose like a space cadet while her little brats rattled the door continuously causing the alarm to go off.If there was a big sign on the door that said CLOSED and the first tug at the door revealed that it was locked, then the booger eating kids should have sat in the car with their booger eating mom til the joint opened.Poor miss maraja and her spoiled little monkeys didnt understand that they werent in the suburbs anymore and the rest of the world doesnt like booger eaters.
Fun place to go with friends or great for practicing. Very friendly staff.
Not sure what happened to my review, so Im reposting it. The Grand Slam Manager / Owner brought my kids and their two friends to tears. He never once apologized to me or reached out to the little boys family.Heres the low down... My two 10 year old kids, my daughters girlfriend and her younger brother who just turned 8 years old were waiting for Grand Slam Baseball Batting in Matthews, NC to open up. We were all so excited!Like a normal kid, the little second grade boy I was babysitting said he thinks the lights inside the facility are on so he tried to open the front door. It was locked with a sign that read Closed. What kid doesnt try to open a door even if its closed.Guess it set off the alarms. None of us knew the alarms went off because he tried to open a locked glass door. A few minutes later, he mentioned to me that the alarm was going off. I told him that one of the employees probably forgot the alarm password when they entered. Never did I think he set off the alarms by pulling on a locked door. The alarms kept sounding, which then got all the kids worried that maybe burglar was trying to break in.Within minutes the owner came in, yelling in front of everyone. He shouted, Which one of you goofballs set off the alarm? He continued to shout, Who set off the alarms? Which one of you set off the alarms? No one knew what he was talking about, not even my kids or the the kids I was watching! So none of the kids answered him.He made his way down towards my kids and the two kids that came with us, looked at them and yelled, No one is going to man-up and confess! They were in tears, because a strange man was yelling at them. He scared them with his tone and accusations.Thats when I turned around (not knowing who this strange man was), noticed he was heading towards my kids, so I shouted (because he was far away), how inappropriate it was for him to yell at them in front of everyone. I also stated that they are kids and didnt even know that they actually set off the alarms. He turned to me and first said that he was just joking. Even if he was, he should have never addressed any issue with them directly. They are kids. He is a stranger.Adults that treat their customers and kids like this and make them cry is not acceptable customer service. All he needed to do was come up to me and ask to talk to me in private. But he didnt. He went and addressed the issue with kids who didnt even know who he was or what they actually did. He over stepped his managerial responsibilities and appeared to be an adult bully.
Reasonably priced, good place to take the kids.
The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. My kids have benefitted from every minute we have spent there. Softball instruction is A+.
Management needs Anger Management and to learn how to treat these kids that want to come and play!! Did they not expect children to come there?? Get a grip on reality!!And having your alarm set to go off when a locked door is pulled on is totally ignorant! Alarms should be set to go off if the door is actually opened when locked. Call your alarm company....its their fault, not the kids!!
Great fun place for a day of practice
