Many years ago, I had a bad experience with the Firestone in town and called Gary for a second opinion and have been with him ever since. Specifically, my husband took his old, rusty pick up truck to the Firestone for the annual inspection. They took the sticker off and called us and told us the truck needed thousands in repairs. The truck had been running fine, so I was hesitant to pay thousands in repairs, so I told them I would pick up the truck and take it someplace else for a second opinion. They said, “Well, you’ll be driving around without the sticker,” and I said, “Fine.”I called Gary, whose shop is just down the road, and told him what they said. I also told him that if the truck needed repairs, I’d pay, but I wanted a second opinion. I picked up the truck from Firestone and immediately drove it to Gary who inspected it the same day. He said the truck was fine, gave us our sticker, and we drove that truck for many more years without issues until we decided to sell it.Since that day, I’ve also taken my 2 autos to Gary for regular servicing. Gary is honest, fair, hard working, kind, and professional. Between buying a very reliable brand and Gary’s regular servicing, I’ve never had to pay for a major vehicle repair in over a decade, and my last vehicle had over 250k miles on it when I bought the one I currently have, which is now over 8 years old with over 120k miles on it. I truly believe he is the best and most honest auto mechanic in Charleston, and I would never take my vehicle any place else. I would recommend him to anyone without hesitation.

Our car had been acting up for months. We took it to them they fixed it the same day within a few hours. We were very pleased with the work, speediness, and service. However not so much with the price. But we were satisfied with their work. We would recommend them to anyone and would return.

I took my Jeep there for what I thought was routine brake service. Turns out, I needed a fairly expensive brake system overhaul. I never doubted the integrity of the mechanic of his assessment of the repairs required. I sensed the honesty in the owners assessment of the situation. It had been a while since Id had any brake work done, so it was certainly-overdue. Yes, it was an expensive fix but I felt the price was fair, given the extensive amount of work needing done. The work the mechanic did was outstanding. I called the shop the next day because the brakes were squealing and catching, they immediately had me bring it in for a quick test drive and assessment. Turns out, the brakes needed bedding in, commonly known as breaking in, and it was normal. In fact, the screeching had stopped by the time I got the Jeep to the shop. The mechanic still took a ride in it to hear for himself. Anyway, the prompt response I got to my call...and the willingness to make it right--right away (even though nothing was technically wrong) impressed me A LOT. Ive only been in Charleston a year now. Originally, I took my Jeep there on a whim (mostly because it was close to my apartment). The whim paid off and now I have my go-to auto repair shop in the city. Thanks!!!

I asked for a pricing and for a repair and was told I needed to come in for a quote. I already know whats wrong with my vehicle. Id fix it myself if I had time. All I want is a price.

Brought my car in for a brake job. They said it would be a couple of days before they got to it. No problem I thought... A couple days later I called about the status and they said they hadnt got to it yet. I was leaving for Florida the next day, so I thought, oh well, Im sure theyll have it done by the time I get back. A week later, I go down to pick up the car and pay the bill, thinking surely its done. Its a simple brake job and theyve had the car 10 days. When I arrive, the car is in the same spot I left it. I thought well they probably just put it back in the same spot. So I go in and ask, and sure enough... Still havent done the work. I asked for my keys, got in my car and left. Went to Advance, and did the brakes myself. Cant say anything about the quality of their repair work. I wouldnt know. But Im not going back to a place that takes over 10 days to do a brake job.

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. My Toyota Camry started to leak underneath it and smell like antifreeze. Gary, the owner, told me it was the radiator, and had Sparky install a new radiator in my Toyota Camry (which was outrageously overpriced and the only reasons I agreed to pay for it was because I was nowhere near my home and I was in a jam). The next day I smelled antifreeze and noticed a leak from underneath the engine again. I returned my Camry to Village Auto and Gary informed me that the leak was actually due to a leaking water pump. This raised speculation that the original leak was from the water pump all along. I decided to go to a different service center. They informed me that it was indeed the water pump leaking, and that that was probably the issue all along. They also drew my attention to the fact that I was charged three times over cost for the radiator. If I could go back in time, I would push my Camry by myself down the road to the next shop I could find.

Took my Audi A4 here for some mechanical fixes, paid them $2,000 only to find out they switched my battery and messed with something that messed up my oil pressure up. (Assuming because I’m a women, they thought I’d bring it back for excess work) a few weeks later my cars alternator blew up from excessive power coming from the battery (which was a large battery for a Diesel sized truck). Confronted them the day I got the car from them about my battery not being the same one I came in with and a smell of oil and a rough idle, they had no explanation...... 100% do not recommend and 100% would have taken legal action if I had more proof of their’ wrong doings.

They have kept my car for three months without fixing it. Never call with updates, rarely answer the phone when I call to find out about the status of my car, never have the car ready when they say they will. Supposed to go to the beach today, but cant because they have my car, wont answer the phone, and the car isnt even at the shop. Will have to call the better business bureau at this point.
