Ive lived in Charleston for 20 yrs and this is the ONLY place that hasnt lied in my face about this or that to get extra bucks. Sad, but true. Ive had 3 or 4 interactions which were all positive and wanted to leave a good review before, been impressed. Today I need to make it a point to do so because when a repair didnt feel repaired after I left, they made it right above and beyond my expectations. Hands down the only place I will take my car! When we first moved to Charleston I tried a few other places, but I didnt really like the inconsistent service we received from them. A friend of ours recommend Charleston Auto Repair, and we have been taking our car here for close to 3 years. Recently, due to a busy schedule on my part and lack of preparation before a trip I took my car elsewhere again and it was a disaster- a piece was broken in my engine and I can safely say we will never compromise and go anywhere else while we live in Charleston! They take care of you and your car, and dont nickle and dime you-I highly recommend them!

Sean is the office manager (mechanical experience galore) and Ashley mans the phone, writing service tickets and keeping you informed on the phone. Prices are slightly higher than average but well, well worth the price for peace of mind.

Good place for women! I drove into the shop as a walk-in because my steering locked up which freaked me out. I tried to self-diagnose but I didn’t have the right tools. The mechanic walked me through the process and diagnosed my issue, gave advice on where to get parts for the best quality/price, and did not once talk down to me for being a girl with no mechanical experience. I will definitely take my car here with any future issues. Quick, easy, and pleasant experience.

Took my car in for a quote to repair a window regulator and motor. I was quoted $120+ what I was quoted at Richards Automotive. I knew they were over charging the part and possibly labor. Receipts from both shops showed Charleston Auto Repair was including the quote costs as well as the repair. If thats their policy, unlike other shops, then good for consumers to know up front. Ill be sticking with Richards.

Found this place by accident when some random metal piece started dragging the ground on my 2016 Rogue last year. Pulled in to the first place I saw and these guys looked it over, assessed that it was a pointless piece of metal (probably some type of guard or just aesthetic), removed it and checked everything over in that area and had me on my way free of charge in 10 minutes or so. I decided then to give them my business the next time I needed work done. Cut to a year later, and it’s time for new brakes. Called them on Thurs afternoon for an appointment, was in the shop Friday at 10 am and out with new brakes by 3pm. The price was fair and the work and guarantee are top notch. I asked them about a brake fluid exchange (which the Nissan dealership had been telling me I needed for the last 2 years) and they very honestly told me I did not need that as my fluid was well within their guidelines for correct operation. I will definitely be back here the next time I have any car issue and highly recommend you give them a shot!

I posted this on Yelp and want to share on here as well to share my experience. I have a Volkswagen Passat and just moved to Charleston. I always look for an auto shop with good reviews from women and found this one. This time did not disappoint. The shop was extremely easy to make an appointment with, and they were very honest and upfront about the issue and how to fix it. Price was extremely reasonable and less than anticipated.They are on your side as a customer, and I would recommend them to anyone. My issue was related to a headlight issue after having it serviced at a Volkswagen dealership in another city.

I have taken several of my vehicles to Charleston Auto Repair and every time I have been very pleased with the service and price. They are quick to get you taken care of and very upfront with whats needed and what the cost will be. The staff has always been quick to respond to any questions and have made each experience as easy as possible.

I am new to the area and encountered a serious problem Which thought may be my radiator. I called them right at opening time and was helped immediately. Extremely nice, helpful staff and thorough. Had my car repaired and up and running in 1 day. Was very pleased with the service and full explanations on the problems. First time I have ever been that comfortable with the honesty and professional service that I was given from beginning to end. They will definitely be my “Go to Guys” for all my car care.

I asked for a diagnosis of my 2009 HHR. They were interested in serving my needs and not trying to figure out how much they could make off their evaluation. They were extremely courteous, took time to explain thoroughly each issue and the price associated with it. They scheduled a time to repair and completed it expediently and efficiently. They know their stuff and obviously practice the concept of customer for life. I know it is the only place I will have my car serviced and repaired.

I had taken my 06 Subaru to Triple AAA the previous morning for an estimate for an axle replacement and AC repair, also for a noise I couldn’t identify, I didn’t feel too confident in their estimate that they understood the problem, their answer was they went by the code they pulled from the diagnostics, which is definitely a good place to start BUT it’s an old car so you may have to stop and look a bit deeper, I left and got on the phone, after calling several places for estimates and then checking reviews, I decide to take it to Charleston Auto Repair, the estimated work turned out to be less expensive AND they found the noise problem AND it was finished by the end of that business day, so will I return ? I had been staying in my camper while receiving treatment at MUSC. I was not able to drive my truck and tow my camper back home in Columbia. I had asked a friend to come and help me out. He was due to arrive in two days. My truck would not start.I called Charleston Auto Repair and explained the urgency. They said they would get right on it. They arranged to have my truck towed in to be repaired, they found the problem, they ordered the parts, they worked out the details with my insurance company and had it all done in time so I could return home as planned. They are good and reliable people to work with.

Today my car unexpectedly died and I had it towed here. I called ahead and they took my info and let me know theyd keep an eye out for my car to arrive. Within an hour of the tow truck leaving my home with my car, Shawn called me to let me know theyd looked at it and what was wrong with it. He was extremely reasonable with the price and even helped me out with it a bit. This was around 1 pm, and my car was fixed and ready to go shortly after 4. Shawn even waited for me while I got an Uber to the shop right at closing time. Its never fun when your car breaks down, but Shawn made what could have been a very stressful experience into a smooth, stress free process.

Charleston Auto Repair makes MASSIVE MISTAKES. They did not replace the part or do the labor that we were charged and paid for. They did not take any responsibility for or offer to fix it. We also found numerous little things that were left sloppy and not brought to our attention about the engine. The owner then said we do not bring every little thing up to customers if its not a major issue. WOW. Had we not known what to look for under the hood, we never would have caught their sloppy and dishonest work. DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE.

Fast and friendly service

Usually an okay experience, but the last experience was frustrating. Took my BMW for a list of 3 issues, printed it out on paper to give to them. When we picked it up they’d charged us $1000, but then I got in the car and noticed it still had the issue where it took a long time for the engine to turn over—the main issue I brought it in for. When I asked them about it, the answer was pretty much just “sorry, we didn’t fix that”—no offer to try to fix it. Driving away, another issue listed on the paper they’d supposedly fixed popped back up, so I’m not really sure what we paid $1,000 for. I really don’t have the money to be paying someone to keep my car for almost a whole week and then not fix the main issues I brought it in for. We won’t be going back.

Boy, did not know places still exists like that...away from main streets but full time service and customer care....we had a sort of emergency and they helped, answered and repaired on the spot!The owner got as an Uber ride, made sure its safe and waited till our ride arrives....wow!!We also checked later what the repair would have costed in other places...he beat everybody!! HORRIBLE BUSINESS!!!!! If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The OWNER was working on my car and broke a piece off and refuses to fix it. They charged me full price and will not give me any sort of refund for the part they broke. No one would call me back to explain to me as to why the piece broke or why they would not fix it. The owner is extremely rude and the staff as well is very rude. Please do NOT ever take any vehicle here ever!!!!

With just moving to the area, I wasnt sure where to bring my vehicle for service. Charleston Auto was recommended to me by a co-worker. I am glad I chose them. They did my oil change, and will be doing a couple of other maintenance items. They have been accommodating with me leaving my vehicle there, helping answer any questions I had.They have communicated on every detail, especially when my tires were delayed due to the flooding.I hope to use them for future repairs.

Went to them on a recommendation..nice but slow..not as high tech and efficient as I dealership but it was nice when 1st went there..car really old so had problems for days...but read my review..avoid this place: they took parts off the car to diagnose. They told me the timing belt needed to be changed so I said ok. I just paid them for the timing belt that doesnt work..then found out that I need a new engine instead..so the timing belt was not neccessary.... and now want me to pay to put all the parts back on that they took off and placed in a box in the trunk??? WTH..

************************ QUALITY = SUCKS ************************The black guy that works there is very rude,so i over looked him and went inside and talked to the lady about my cars.iam new to the area and was looking for a shop to service my cars,and put a timing belt on my daughters honda, i had my daughters car towed there(Bad Mistake)!!! so thay stripped my daughter engine and broke twobolts in the engine block .thay insist it wasnt there fault,, so thay charged me 3 extra hrs,that said they tapped and die the broken bolts,and asked them to save them i wanted to see them, i never seen them, so the cars back together and runs terriable,i paid 586 dollars for a timing belt that was fine, i hope people read these reviewsbefore thay go there, thay will rip you off from the word GO!!!!!!!so i took my car toMcCaskills auto repair further down 61 and thay said the timning was off,it was two teeth off on the timing belt, the timing was advanced,thay charged me 236.00 to set the timing belt right and now my car is running right,charleston auto repair is a legalscam, thay will telll u what u want to hear then when thay get your car in the bay, your at their mercy, thay are no good and need to be shut down, i dont know how the owner sleeps at night,
