This has been the place for eye care for our whole family for many years, and we have always had excellent, very professional service from everyone here. My only minor critiques are that the prices are often a bit above our insurance coverages, and the selection of frames in the lower price range is limited. They do have some, though, and I suppose they have to stock more of what sells. That being said, they have never tried to upsell or push us to choose a more expensive option and have given the same, careful attention no matter the price point. Dr. Hillsgrove is a gem.
Im sure for some people this place is just like any other myeyedr and things go relatively smoothly but for me this place was a nightmare and despite moving to a completely different vision practice this location continues to harass me with phone calls.I went into this location to renew my contacts prescription. The contacts they sent to me were wrong and my vision was worse than before. They then required me to physically return them to the store and pick up the correct prescription there? So somehow their mistake became my inconvenience.Ive since moved on from this location and yet continue to receive calls every month. Stay away from this myeyedr everyone.
This was my first visit here. I was very pleased. The staff was so nice and knowledgeable and the doctor was great. This will definitely be my place to go for eye exams and glasses.
Very good experience. Staff was courteous and efficient. Good covid19 infection control measures. Doctor was really knowledgeable and experienced. Overall as good as an eye exam can go.
I was surprised to see negative reviews as I have been satisfied with this practice for many years. I was seen this month (6/2020) during COVID and provided with an appropriate mask and social distancing. The staff were professional and my exam was well done and thorough.Last year I needed new glasses. My insurance (Davis Vision) provides low-cost frames and an amount toward the lenses. The Davis frames I got were substandard (one lens kept falling out). The MyEyeDr Practice let me chose from their assortment of frames. I love my frames so much that I wasnt tempted to change them this year! Luckily my prescription hadnt changed enough to need new lenses.
You deserve no stars. The only reason I’m giving 2 is because my Doctor was great. Went in and ordered glasses on 10/7, was told 10 days. Well past 10 days I had to call the store and and ask for an update because other wise who knows. They gave me a new date, the 21st. 10/21 comes and AGAIN I have to call the store for an update. Now it’s the 25th .Today AGAIN I have to call the store. Now they will be ready Monday? No more. Cancelled the order. Manager comes on the line, not rude at all, but clearly is missing the customer service aspect here. Through all these transactions I was never offered a simple apology, and no attempt made to salvage the sale or at least not walk away assuming this is how things are done here. Just “we will send you a check for your refund”.Word of advice - At least TRY.
Well, dont be 12 minutes late like I was. Knocked on the door, was trying to get someone on the phone. Woman didnt even look up when she answered the phone. Said Id have to reschedule in the most detached voice Ive heard on a receptionist.Didnt offer to check with the optometrist or anything. Sounded like she didnt want to be there.
I officially came to this office for assistance in repairing a Silhouette frame. The staff that assisted me was professional and prompt.I recently returned to this location to order a new pair of glasses. I mentioned the general style of frame I wanted and was immediately directed to the two brands at that location that carried that style. One I decided on my frame and lens shape, the ordering process was put in seamlessly by the staff assisting me. I was told the glasses would be ready in 2-3 weeks, but I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to pick them up in about a week.
The owner is disrespectful to females, with insulting words and behaviors! Stay away from this place!
Avoid During Covid - At my teenage daughters appt, they tried to exclude my wife from entering the building. They questioned if their real N95 masks were home made. The eye dr touching multiple surfaces (remote control, laptop touch screen, drawer handle, her own eyeglasses, etc.), then touched my daughters EYELIDS. [COVID can be transmitted via the eye.] When her Mother suggested that the eye dr should have washed her hands right before touching someones eyes, the eye dr said nothing. When asked about possible COVID contamination from the puffer machine that measures eye pressure, she just said no. We sent comments to the Patient Relations office about our contamination concerns and it has been 4 business days with no response. Turns out the Kittner Eye Center of Chapel Hill doesnt use the puffer, but instead uses a handheld device with a fresh disposable tip for each patient. Plus, their total charge for eye exam, contacts exam, and refraction is $95 LESS than Mr Eye Dr.Update: I DID send my concern to Patient Relations on Jun 12 and recd an auto-reply confirming receipt. Now Jun 23 and no response (email nor cell phone). The response from owner was just smoke and mirrors so other readers THINK they were concerned enough to reach out to us. They did not.
I have always had great service here! I have been a patient of Dr. Hillsgrove for almost 10 years now and she has always been professional, thorough, and quick. She has a wonderful personality and I enjoy my visits with her. Her staff always help me find the best pairs of eyeglasses! I still get compliments every week.
2nd time lens order is not correct. Ive been without proper glasses for 2+ weeks and my lenses were due today. I had to call and track them down.I was told that they lenses did come in and were not correct and had to be sent back. The folks at the store are not sure when the correct lenses will come in. In the meantime, I cannot see! Ive had this problem with this same store every time Ive ordered new glasses. I think Im done with MyEyeDr in Chapel Hill. Not just with the long wait for new lenses (2 weeks+) but also that the order comes in wrong and needs to be corrected EVERY TIME which extends the wait time. Not cool.
So in my opinion these people are amazing and went above and beyond for my husband in icu burn unit at unc chapel hill. He got electrocuted and will be loosing both hands well every time he had a surgery they had to take his contacts out and would trash them so in a week he went through 3 pairs so we gave them a call for glasses for him but they didn’t have a pupil measurement for him so he would have to come in to get glasses made well he asked if their was any way they could come to him so he could see and they put him on hold then told him yes we will come to you and damn if they didn’t. Their service was amazing, she was very respectful and did everything he needed. I was very impressed
Have been going there for years. Have always had a great experience. The receptionists are very pleasant and knowledgeable. When needed, they will always find a way to squeeze in an appointment. Dr. Hillsgrove listens first then provides the proper care. She even offers choices for prescriptions so I feel comfortable with my selections. When we get new glasses or a years supply of contacts they give us a free pair of sunglasses. My entire family goes here and will continue to do so in the future.
I have no complaints about the staff. They all were professional and efficient: receptionist/sales, technician, and doctor. While the exam seemed to be done accurately and professionally at a reasonable price, I felt as if it was a means to get me into the eyeglass sales area to make a medium-pressure sale. I got the information I was seeking: my eyes are healthy. And Ill stick with my OTC reading glasses for now.
I have been here to see Dr. Hillsgrove a few times now. She has always been attentive, helpful, and patient. I have had difficulty in finding contact lenses that dont cause me discomfort, and she has continued to assist in finding a solution. She always has concise, useful answers to my questions and never seems to be in any rush. Its been a pleasure to see her every time.The rest of the staff have also been great. The receptionists and the techs who do my pre-exam have been welcoming and professional. The salespeople who I have spoken with have not tried to pressure me in any way.Im at a loss as to why others have given this office poor reviews; I have had nothing but great experiences here. I switched from another local optometry office to this place and it has been better in every way.
I like the doctors here. Scheduling is easy. The appointments are prompt.
Super happy with this place. Did not try to up-sale me or coerce me in to getting contacts or new frames. Were OK with me getting new lenses for my glasses only. And the technician even fixed (i.e., re-sized) my prescription sunglasses from another place for me, no charge.And the doctor...she told me I didnt need progressive lenses, which my previous doctor seemed to think was a given. I hated the progressives, but fought through it because I thought I had to. Today Im wearing my new glasses and have no eye pain or headache for first time in MONTHS!!! Super stoked!!
Still waiting for someone to ring me back about my glasses I ordered? I ordered frames from this shop and was told 2 weeks to have the lenses put in. It came up to 3 weeks so I decided to phone the shop to inquire what was happening . I rang at 10am and the staff member said she would be ringing the lab to find out and would ring me straight back. 3pm arrives and still no call back so yet again I ring the shop to try and find out what’s happening with my glasses ? Turns out they can’t get the frames and don’t know how long it will take to get them in? Wasn’t told a thing and would of known unless I followed this up myself.If you want to be ringing to find out when and where your glasses will be made and Terrible customer service this is DEFINITELY the shop for you.
I felt accommodated when I needed an appointment promptly. When I got there, I barely had to wait. They saw me right away. I was treated exceptionally nicely by everyone. The doctors were well equipped, and knew their stuff.
I love Dr Hilsgrove. She takes good care of me.
Walked in and there was only one other customer/patient who was already being helped. Literally just went in to get the nose pieces on my glasses replaced and was told at the front desk it would only be a couple minutes (note: this woman was not very welcoming at all). I waited almost 40 mins. No one said anything to me, no one else came in, and only one other employee (that I could see) was there. I walked out without being helped. I dont know what they do at this place, but I wont be returning.
I wish I could give this group ZERO stars. Their service is very disappointing. They gave my husbands appointment away ON THE DAY OF HIS APPOINTMENT because he didnt confirm his appointment soon enough. What a crock.I am so sorry I ever went to this store. Am going back to UNC, much better, more professional organization.
They clearly dont have any regard for your time here, the woman who had the appointment after me was taken back before me despite the fact that I was here early for my appointment and ready to go.
Once the initial part of my exam was completed I waited another 35 minutes for the actual eye doctor at least. Then she went in and out of the room multiple times for long periods of time. On top of this, when I went to pick up my glasses the person was completely rude and when I was having trouble seeing through them she walked away without telling me why and I had to wait then she came back and walked away again without telling me why and I had to go look for her to figure out why she kept walking away without telling me why. I ended up leaving frustrated and coming back a different day. Then they decided that they needed to switch my type of lens and told me that the price was the same. I called in annomonously to compare the price and actually should’ve been getting a $55 refund because they were moving me into a cheaper lens. I had an all around terrible experience and still don’t have glasses that work.

They changed my prescription from - to + and messed up the lenses twice. The frame was scratched. We were waiting for about 3 months for this new glasses and in the end we returned it. This is the worst store on our shopping experiences. Never being there again!
The whole staff was very friendly from the receptionist to the doctor. I also barely waited at any point and was in and out with new contacts in under an hour.
Wont be back. Overcharged, talked into getting a pricier contact lense, and then provided poor customer service.
They made me feel uncomfortable and pressured me into buying things I did not need.
Unfriendly, bad follow up and overall hard to work with.
They charged me $40 to take a picture of my eye which insurance didnt cover and charged me $60 just to wear a pair of contacts to last me til my glasses game in. Crooks and thieves.
