I was recommended A Better Wrench by a friend who owns a Mercedes. My car needed repairs, and I had just moved to Chapel Hill, NC for work, and I had no idea about the new area. Once I contacted them, they were polite, calm, respectful, and extremely accommodating by explaining what was happening with my automobile. Unfortunately, there was a list of issues, but we tackled one thing at a time, and eventually got all of the “Musts” taken care of. The kicker is that my car is 20 years old with over 250K Miles. It’s amazing how well it rides since connecting with A Better Wrench. Try them, you won’t be disappointed.

Last night, we were leaving Chapel Hill to return to Greensboro. Our battery light had come on, but we were hoping to make it home before we had to deal with it. No such luck -- we were on the road, driving, when all of our battery-operated stuff started fading and failing. We knew we needed to get off the road quick, and I pulled up auto repair shops on my phone -- what luck! There was one about a mile ahead.We pulled into A Better Wrench, and my heart fell a little when I saw they were a Mercedes-Benz and BMW place, because we were driving a Chevy Cavalier. We knew we couldnt go any further, though, so we walked in.They were the nicest people! It was about an hour before they closed, and it was raining and nasty. They still rushed to help us -- with one of them even driving to the parts store to get us a new alternator because they wouldnt deliver that late in the day. Less than two hours later, we had a new alternator, even though they had to stay some past closing to get it done. They would have been justified in charging us a rush fee, but they didnt -- it was extremely reasonable, on par with what I paid 10 years ago the last time I needed an alternator on this car.We were so lucky to be near them when our emergency struck!

They do a good job servicing imports, probably equal to or better than the dealerships. I say this because a friend brought in his Mercedes suv, and they discovered that the dealership had actually damaged his oil drain plug but using the wrong plug, which lead to a slow oil leak.

Always so reasonably priced compared to dealer pricing

I drive a 15-year old BMW, and I needed an honest mechanic to help me through all the problems that come up with 15-year old BMWs. A friend recommended A Better Wrench, and Im glad he did. In the past two years, ABW has been my go-to mechanic for everything from annual emissions inspections, through oil changes, to misfiring cylinders. Their prices arent bargain bin, as they are a specialty shop, but they are very fair in their pricing and in their excellent service. I have two particular experiences where ABW went well above what I expected. The first was when I got rear-ended, and a body shop quoted the repairs at about $2500. The guys at ABW said oh we can just pop that bumper back in place with our hands, and they did. And they didnt charge anything for that. The second is when my engine was running poorly, and ABW first fixed a cracked... something. Cylinder wasnt holding vacuum, basically. But that didnt fix it. So they replaced the ignition coil. And that didnt fix it. And then they said, okay, were done charging you - were going to fix this and youre not paying anything beyond those first two bills. So they ordered some more expensive ignition coils on the house, got those set up (on the house), and now my baby is back to purring her way down neighborhood streets at 6000 rpm. Wonderful place, highly recommend for anyone with a BMW or Mercedes thats used or otherwise out of dealer warranty.

Lets be honest. Getting your car repaired is generally not at the top of the list of enjoyable things to do. However, I have been taking my cars to Max Scroggs and A Better Wrench for almost 30 years and have ALWAYS had a great experience. I challenge anyone to come up with a more knowledgeable, professional and friendly group of people for Mercedes sales, service and repair. I have been driving pre-owned Mercedes for most of my life but there is no way I could afford these cars if it was not for buying them from Ruth at ABW Imports and having Max and his team at A Better Wrench handle the service. We are incredibly fortunate to have them in this area. If you havent worked with them before then give them a try. You will be glad you did!
