Maybe he thought I was stealing since I look disheveled. **Oddest customer service I’ve ever experienced. Not the worst, just the oddest. There’s a dude sitting on feed bags who will stare at you as you search for what you need… Literally just stare. I thought I was either about to be hit on or being sized up by a crazy customer until I realized he worked there.

Great place have 99% of what you need. You might have to spend $0.25 more. However it will cost more in time and gas to go to the big box store..

My daughter was having trouble with a commercial-style door knob with a lock at her Clothes Mentor Edina retail store. Some of the original keys we had worked, but one was very “sticky” and one no longer worked at all. I was able to remove the knob and lock from the door and brought it and the keys with me to Merlin’s. Dennis completely took the lock portion apart and was able to realign or replace the tumblers to make it work like new! No new keys were needed. This service cost me $10 and saved me hundreds of dollars it would have cost me to call a locksmith. These local guys really know their stuff! Thank you, Merlin’s Ace Hardware!

I generally shop at the Ace Hardware stores in Minneapolis where excellent customer has always been the rule, not the exception. But Merlin’s Ace Hardware has to be one of the worst customer service experiences I have had in recent memory. I stopped in for some stain and brushes on a Sunday afternoon. The three sales associates hanging out by the front register all worked very hard to avoid eye contact when I entered. No offers to help as I walked in. When I approached one of them to ask if they carry a particular brand of stain, I wasn’t sure if he even worked there so I asked him if he did. His response was:”sometimes” followed by silence as he avoided eye contact. I then asked if they carried the brand I was looking for and he said “yes”. But again, that was it! No offer to show me where it was, no offer to help - he just stood there. Then I asked him is he could show me where it was and he grudgingly walk off without a word. I wasn’t sure if he was going to show me the stain or if he was just walking away. I followed him and he took me to the stain.Super rude, unwelcoming and unhelpful staff.If I lived in Chanhassen, I would avoid that hardware store like the plague…who needs to put up with that kind of grief when there are plenty of other options available?

A tall gray haired man helped me the other day. A self driving screw fixed my closet pole. Thanks for helping me find an easy and effective fix!

I bought a gas grill from Merlins Ace Hardware, and wow, what nice people! They know their stuff and even delivered the grill/showed me how to use it. I highly recommend this wonderful retailer!

Not all Ace Hardware stores are similar. Merlins is truly ACE and has been for decades, with extremely knowledge customer service oriented staff always clearly communicating at the level of each customer on seemingly all types of enquiries! Today, for instance, I decided to buy a small shovel which doubles for garden work and the experienced employee suggested on shaving down the blade so as a chisel and shovel to chip and shovel ice at the edge of my garage -- and I did just that this afternoon! On all occasions I have requested clarification be it on projects or the huge number of products from any staff, each conveys thoughtful and clear understanding and communication I understand! All customers I chat to agree Merlins is fully reliable and each have their own experiences they quickly relate to me!

I can usually find what I need but a lot of things are only one or two on the hook.There is way too much directional signage on the front doors. Its really just hand written clutter at this point.

I always get great service when I come here. I asked Chris to help me out with a project at our shop. He got me exactly what I needed. No extra parts and wasnt short anything I needed either. It was a huge help in completing the project in a timely manner. Thanks to the team at Merlins for getting us up and running.

Went there tonight after spending an hour at Home Depot and the helpful guy figured out my plumbing connection issue in 2 mins. Ill be back for sure. Thank you.

Spent hundreds of dollars there before and the one time i didn’t some guy came outside and took pictures of my license plate and said it looked like it was stealing. Only reason i didn’t give them one star is because i’ve had many positive interactions there and the staff is usually very helpful but assuming someone is stealing because of their age and appearance is unprofessional and i expected more from these guys.

They are the only ones who have my bird food...Audubon Songbird Selections Multi Bird blend...The chickadees, blue jays, cardinals, nut hatches, juncos, and house sparrows all love it...plus even more birds and critters (like the squirrels and the little chickmunk)! The staff here are nice too. Its a nice small town atmosphere.All the cashiers are nice. Ashley crazy cat lady is the coolest! Her and I bonded over animals and tie dye pants. : P She really is a neat person though.

Had a 220 volt female plug, which isnt a real high demand product, so, yes, this place was awesome!

I can always find what I need here, the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. While I can usually find a slightly better price online or at a big box store I feel they are still very reasonable. I recently tried to repair my late father-in-laws old Stihl blower myself and was stumped, so gave up to let Dennis (Grumpy) at Merlins tell me what was wrong. Despite the challenge and time required, he stayed with it and kept a memory alive. It is as good as new. Much appreciated. Wont go elsewhere.

My mom and I rented a sod cutter and the employees were very accomidating and really helped us out. I would recommend this place to anyone.

My first time in this store.Great crew. The young man up front was very polite and asked me if I needed help. Directed me exactly where the articles were located. The young woman was helping me at one point, but to ensure that I get the exact right part, she called on to her manager. The manager helped me decide between three different makes/models. He knew which product would be best...better than me. Besides, they sell stuff Made in U.S.A. That was a deal-maker for me.Ive just become a repeat-customer for this fantastic store with polite and informed employees!Unlike the folks at Home Depot (Chaska) and Menards (Eden Prairie), these CSRs actually seek you out to offer help...rather than turning away from you.

Mixed bag here. Ive seen some truly overzealous rude behavior toward customers and have also been treated well so its a toss up. I dont like the outright disrespect towards anyone however so 2 stars instead of 4. Also not the cheapest place to get youre hardware/home repair items from.

ACE has always been my “go-to hardware store” and Merlin’s ACE in Chanhassen is my favorite. They’ve got a number of guys and gals who really know their stuff and are happy talk you through your project . . . and that’ll generally save you a lot of time and money.

Usually great service. Today came to check out counter, Owners son standing there on personal call, didnt even look up/acknowledge. Waited and finally another employee came to other register to assist. First guy just wandered off, still engrossed in his call. Struck me how sad when someone builds a business on service and the next generation fails to carry it on. Ive always liked supporting the local shop vs. Home Depot to reward them, but looks like loyalty may be misplaced if its rewarding poor service and second generation laziness.

Expensive vs the big box stores, but the employee who unveiled the stocked assortment of rubber gaskets (suitable for replacing a malformed Samsung washing machine filter gasket) was more than eager to help without being imposing. Unhurried, attentive listening and a genuine offer to support my shopping perogative.

Customer service was brutal, if you know what you need and don’t have any questions or inquiries it’s fine.But left feeling ashamed for even coming in.

Manager was very rude. Charged me $79 for a damaged hose when I rented a pressure washer. I paid $275 to rent the washer for 3 days and I also bought the damage insurance. He said I wrapped the hose up while it was still too hot so that is considered intentional not accidental. I spent probably $1000 in that store during our remodeling but never went back after that.
