Called the shop to inquire about an engine build on my car, performed under the previous owner. I was surprised when I called because I was treated as if I had done business with them before. They took basic information and said they’d look into the build and call back with an answer. They called back promptly, explained the build and answered all questions pertaining to the build. Awesome experience with the company, especially for never dealing with them prior to this experience. Car runs great and thank you for the help.

Metric motors installed a new 2.5 Subaru engine in my 1989 Vanagon. There were some delays obtaining parts owing to the pandemic. But the end result was nothing short of miraculous. The van runs like a charm. It is now able to keep up with traffic, no longer a hazard on the highway. The engine compartment is greatly simplified. I cannot recommend Chris and his crew enough: competent, smart, and honest.

Chris and his team has earned a lifetime customer! My Subaru spun a bearing over a year ago and Ive been searching and waiting for the right shop to trust to do the work. I was looking for shop that could build up a new motor for a 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser that suffered a head gasket failure and severe overheating. One shop I called highly recommended Metric Motors for this type of job, and after working with them, I was fortunate enough to experience firsthand why. Everyone I spoke with was very professional and helpful. Since I was not local to the area, most of my communication was with Mitch via phone and email. We went over what needed to be done, that I wanted to use Toyota OEM or better components, the history of the current motor, and what happened. From there he worked up a ball park estimate and then we waited for the parts to arrive. After it was all said and done, the final price came in very near the original estimate, and anything that did come up throughout the process was communicated before proceeding with the work, along with a discussion as to why, and potential options. Communication was excellent from start to finish and you can tell he has a lot of knowledge, experience and passion for what he does. A big thank you to Mitch and everyone else at Metric Motors for all your hard work and breathing new life into an old Toyota FZJ80.

Driving into work this morning and my check engine light comes on, then my car starts to sputter and some other fun stuff..... I pull off the highway in Centerville and start googling auto mechanics. I call the closest one I can find, the man on the phone says he is slammed but he can take a quick look. He ends up changing the ignition coil, he happened to have a used part that would be good enough to get me back home safe. A million thanks to Mitch at Metric Motors in Centerville. If you need work done I have a feeling he will be very fair and honest.

After getting my car worked on in Colorado (heating issue). I came to find out that the auto place I went to put the wrong caps on my radiator and antifreeze tank. This caused the antifreeze to spray out all over my engine. While on a road trip in Utah, I was in desperate need of a mechanic. My man Mitch at Metric Motors took me in right away and cleaned my engine and ordered the correct parts for my car. The next day he replaced the parts and got my car working good as new. Really saved our trip. I would highly recommend Mitch and Metric Motors to anyone in needs of auto work.

They made us wait 3 weeks just to tell us the job they said they could do, couldn’t be done. People who came in before us got their stuff done before ours. They do not focus on first come first serve. It was a complete waste of our time, when we could have just bought a new part or went somewhere else to try and fix it. Terrible place to go. Would not recommend!

Durring this pandemic I wanted to take on a new project. I took apart my 1.8t engine on the Audi. I went in and got help. They honed my block and cleaned it. Got me on my way. Theres just only one problem. Ive never actually broken down and rebuilt an engine. The owner took time out of his schedule to help me with specs that I needed to rebuild it on my own. He also gave me advice on how to break the engine in once its in the car. Completely different that what joe mechanic said to do on the internet. They work on these type of engines day in and day out. The engine has been put back together and ready to be put back in the car. Ive always taken my engine work to them to get fixed, and they always give me more value that what I expect. Seems like somethings dont change. Excited to see the engine running in my car. Had them build me a long block for a 06 wrx. Runs great! Super smooth! No shakes at idle. Builds good power. I had a few personal problems getting the motor to run but I called them any time I had a problem or question and it got it answered. Would definitely do business with them again! They built my whole motor from start to end in about 2 weeks. Very happy with the end product.

I bought a Subaru EJ22 long block from Metric Motors - has run strong for 2+ years now. When I put it together, it wouldnt run, and they figured out why for me (was using wrong cam sprocket - not even mechanics at Subaru in American Fork could figure that out). Later, after overheating and doing a head gasket job, they successfully helped me to diagnose engine ticking noise (it was bad valve adjustment job). I thought I was in for replacing the block, but they set me right. These two times have they bailed me out of out-of-commission circumstances. They share their knowledge and answer questions unlike most mechanics. The lady answering the phone was also very helpful, kindly getting me to explain what problems I had caused myself. Without that, Chris wouldnt have been able to help me as he did. So five stars to the whole outfit.

I chose to try out Metric Motors based on a personal recommendation from a friend who has had prior experience with them, and I liked their Google reviews, also. I needed a new head gasket on my 2003 Honda Civic. I took my car in, talked with them, and they gave me an estimate, which I thought was very reasonable. They explained everything to me, and answered all of my questions. I also elected (my choice) to have the water pump and the timing belt replaced, as the miles were creeping up on my vehicle, and I wanted to have that done, while they were already into the engine.This was actually last fall when I had this work done, so I have had the test of time on the work. Everything is working fine. Metric Motors team did an excellent job, and they stayed with the quoted bid. No gimmicks, no surprises. They also took it out for a good test drive to make sure everything was working properly when I drove it out. I highly recommend this team of qualified mechanics!

Bought a used engine for my daughter’s 2003 Legacy in May 2017. These guys were great to work with. Fast forward a year and we needed a quick fix on a exhaust manifold leak. They took it right in and turned it around quickly. Worked with us on the price too even though we were beyond warranty - surprisingly inexpensive. I just couldn’t be happier with the service. I almost gave them 5 stars. They did a awesome job on my 427 engine and charged exactly what they said they would. I believe them to be both competent and fair. There was only one misunderstanding, and I think it was more on the part of the guy that brought my engine to them and most likely not their fault. They were very courteous both before and after the rebuild and took time to talk to me long after the job was done. Highly recommend!

Received a very high quote to rebuild an engine. $3000 for an engine when the vehicles only worth half that. Lol.. thats not even installed or removing the old engine. Overcharge much?

These guys are awesome. I brought my 81 motorcycle head in, and they did a complete top end rebuild. It took them about a week, no trouble. They specialize in Subaru engines, but they took my kawasaki head without hesitation. They were professional, answered all my dumb questions, and my favorite part- at the end of the day, the amount they quoted me was the amount I paid. Would definitely recommend.

Metric motors is a great shop to get work done. Chris is a very knowledgeable problem solver and can make basically anything work. Although ALL SHOPS do make some mistakes. Chris was more than willing to fix any issues i had 110%. That being said my builds were very unordinary and my issues were more like experiments. But at the end of the day i would recommend anybody to Metric motors.

In short, we got charged nearly $400 and they didnt resolve the check engine light. They charged $96 per hour. After excuses, they said theyd schedule us in when they have time... its been well over a month now. Ultimately, we decided to go elsewhere and got the issue fixed. We are adding our experience first so that others are warned. Utah and Utahans deserve better.

Great engine conversion on our VW and then absolutely outstanding followup service. After a Death Valley trip we noticed that heat from the exhaust system had damaged the timing belt cover. Although it had been two years since Metric Motors had installed a Subaru engine in our Vanagon they replaced the timing belt and cover and then installed a new heat shield all at their expense. I couldnt ask for better warranty service. Highly recommended.

About a year ago I had a motor replaced by metric motors. They did great work, even after the job was done and I had a few hickups and they were happy to help.

I had Metric Motors build my non typical hot rod engine. We ran into a few issues along the way being non typical, but the owner Chris kept me in the loop every step of the way. Once I got the engine in and running we found some special order parts that caused us some additional grief. Chris stood behind the work 100%. I would definitely recommend Metric Motors if you need heavy mechanical work done!!

I had my vehicle brought here to adjust valves. When I went to get it no one acknowledged I was there. Finally I walked behind the counter where they just stared at me. After getting one guy cornered I was told I needed a crate motor for $3500. I laughed and left. Went somewhere else where they adjusted valves & Im still driving it today. Perhaps I got no customer service because Im dark, seemed like a bunch of good old boys attitude.There is no way to reply to your questions so I will continue w/ post.Diagnostics for a 1978 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 w/ 350 sbc.About 3-4 months ago.Metric Motors in CentervilleWhat really got me was the total lack of customer service.I stood there at the counter for 15 minutes, there were at least 3-4 people behind counter. No wait a moment or we will be with you, absolutely nothing. Then when I went behind counter & told them which vehicle it just got quiet and one guy said I needed a new crate engine, no explanation or alternatives. No printout on diagnosis. I wanted more info but got none so the only reason I paid was so I could get my keys and get out. I felt belittled as if the joke was on me.Then to top it off my door handle was broken when I went to drive away. You guys came highly recommended but like I said maybe only for white folk or Mormons I dont know. There is no way to post a pick of my rig. Dont worry I WONT BE BACK!

Great place to get Japanese engines from

I have used them several times before on Subaru and Audi products, so I had them rebuild my boat engine, my parents moved so I put the engine in after the warranty expired the following summer, the pt a timing chain on that rubbed against the timing cover housing. went in replaced it, then the engine had very low vacuum after hours of diagnostics and them telling me it was a timing concern, they had put in the wrong camshaft.

Amazing Experience with Steve and crew. I was driving from Utah to Seattle and just happened by the shop while looking for an auto parts store (as if my 87 Vanagon Synchro knew where to go). I saw a half dozen vans in front of the shop and decided to stop as I had a broken hydraulic pump bracket and thought I might be able to ask for advice. Steve, the owner greeted me at the door, listened to my story, took a look at my van, had the part I needed off of an old engine, had a mechanic install the part(s) and gave me a tour of the shop. I could hardly believe my luck! Everyone in the shop was friendly and Steve charged me a fair price. I would definitely consider Metric Motors for van repair or a Subaru engine conversion in the future. Thank you Metric Motors!

Chris bent over backwards to fix my truck without even asking.

I had my engine rebuilt here and to say the least, I was very dissatisfied with their service. First, they can not keep their words in terms of time. Multiple times that I have had dealing with them, they were few days late, if not few weeks. Second, their supposed knowledge in engine is very questionable. They tried to tell me that there was a leak in my intake and thats why its having hard time ideling, when in fact another shop pin-pointed right away to the real problem which was a valve timing. Also, they told me that fixed the problem when all they did was reset my computer. This place is just going to mess up your engine for good, so STAY AWAY!Ken

I took my car to a garage and they used these guys to have work done on my engine. With in few month, my check engine light came on and seeing how it was under warrenty, I thought they would take care of it. It took 4 days and $74 to just figure out the problem. I thought warrenty would cover for the engine they worked on, but in fact, wanted to charge me another couple hundred dollars to fix it. I didnt have my car for few days and after $74, my car was not fixed. I just mentioned what car was doing to another gargage and they were able to give me a knowledgable answer. If you have a choice, do not go here.

Looked everywhere for a valve cover bolt for my 93 impreza, this was the only place within driving distance that I didnt have to order and wait for it. Drove 2 hours to get it same day rather than ordering one, get home to use the bolt and its the wrong one.
