I always have a good experience when I take my car to Tuffys. They are quick to service my vehicle and are very friendly. I highly recommend this shop if you need work done on your vehicle. Lucas helped me out today with my rear turn signal and tail lights in general. I was very happy to get in and out quickly especially having my young child there. When you need it you should give them a call and schedule an appointment!

I took my 2011 GMC Acadia there back in January for an oil change. I had just bought the car and decided on the premiere oil change as I got a coupon in the mail and wanted the inspection. I was told I had a bad control arm and needed new tires. I authorize all that and picked my car up the next day. I had a check engine light on that wasnt there before and went back to have it read. Was told it was an exhaust leak to do with the cats. Now about a week ago or so I have ZERO oil! My husband and I add 3 Quarts before it will even show on the dipstick. Im not showing any leaks or leaving behind any fluids. I attempt to call and was hung up on or disconnected and called back immediately to be told that person was now busy and would call me back. We end up going in person where I was pushed out the door because they were closing up shop, which is understandable but this was urgent and they were the only ones to work on my car. I was told to bring it back Monday and this was on Saturday. I only make it a couple of blocks before my engine is squealing and my vehicle is shaking and grinding. I have it Towed home and go in to see them Monday morning. I tell them what happened on the way home and to their credit they did have it Towed back to them from my house to inspect it again. I was told that someone would call me before they came to get my car so that Id know they were on their way. No call ever came. Monday evening I get a call to talk about the inspection. Im told again that there are no leaks but that obviously Ive had oil if I was able to drive 2000 miles but they couldnt tell me where it went. Im told that this issue must be from before I bought the car and that it isnt from their end. Wednesday I talk to the owner of the dealership where I bought my car and he reached out to Mike. Thursday, I call Corporate who tells me that they will have Mike reach out to me to discuss this issue. I never heard from him. Today I called them and Jason informed me that Mike wasnt there and that he was at the office, giving me the number to call. I call them and the woman who answered informed me that Mike wasnt in the office. I feel like I am being avoided when all I want to do is figure out what went wrong and on whose end. I called to ask about details of my oil change, I was told that my oil was OK and Not Low. After being told they found no leaks on either inspection including the re inspection they did, I am now being told that they found minor leaks. They also claim that my oil is completely full even though it was bone dry and I only added 3 quarts of oil. Maybe with any luck a public review can get me some communication from Mike.I will edit this as I cant reply, I made this review BEFORE talking to you. But as was stated on the phone call, I was told different things multiple times.

Today I was in the Cedar Rapids area and my check engine light came on.. I live in central Iowa and had another 100 miles to drive so was concerned about whether I should continue. I stopped by Tuffy’s on Edgewood Rd in Cedar Rapids and they were able to put my car on their computer. The problem was a vapor issue which would not prevent me from continuing my journey home. So, I sent my 18 year old son with his car over to Tuffy having no clue how this is going to happen because I cant go to help him and I have no clue about cars. Thinking hes going to get lied to and talked into spending his entire paycheck on things that he may or may not need, imagine my surprise when he comes home with a estimate that I believe and tells me how incredible nice every single employee was. He explained how they did some type of flush and there was something that needed tweeking and explained a few things to him and sent him on his way. Not charging him anything because he just really needed the help. I cannot thank you guys enough. Something so small changed his outlook on how people treat kids. I was mind blown. And if needed in the future, I know the first place I will take my car. Thank you so much. - A mom of four and struggling.

I am amending my previous review. Not being a car guy I did not fully understand what I was being told. I was pleased that within minutes of reading my unfavorable review, Mike, the owner, contacted me to see what they could do to make it right. I think just about every automotive service place does the same work, the same way and the only difference is customer service. Mike demonstrated Tuffy cares about their customers and will do whatever is reasonable to make it right. Because of this I am likely to return to Tuffy in the future.

I needed a transmission flush and filter replaced. I had a leak that I wasnt sure what needed to be done.I got a quote with the total amount with nothing itemized. Im like who does that, show me how you charging me so I can decide what I want. Totally felt like charges were being hidden. So I had to ask. After the repairs were done, what was listed on the quote wasnt the same on the final receipt. It showed the part that was leaking listed as one thing on quote then something totally different on receipt when repairs were done. This would have altered my decision. In the end they are over priced. Ive been to other tuffys and paid with a check. Apparently they dont accept checks but couldnt verify it as being true.I wont be going here anymore. Youre not gonna gain any trust from customers playing these types of games.

I took my car in for an oil change, I normally go to the Cedar Falls location since I go to school up there but I am home on break. I was new to the location but they fit me in their schedule just fine. Towards the end of my oil change they noticed my power steering pump was leaking. This was brought to my attention back from the Cedar Falls location but after getting 5,000 more miles put on, it was time for a repair. They talked me through the costs and what was most important to fix first. After i went ahead with the repairs. The manager updated me later in the day about the status of my car and was very reassuring my car was in good hands. The next morning my car was finished and I went to pick it up, I was given the receipts and talked though my bill, we went over some stuff for future maintenance.Normally when Tuffys does an oil change they check your tires and they never marked that they did on my sheet and when I asked them about it, they had to go confirm that they did with someone else? A little suspicious? but my car seems fine.

So I knew my car had issues. Its a 2008 Pontiac G6 with 155k original miles, and almost all major parts are original. Went in to get my oil change, and waited to hear what else was bad. Evidently my inner and outer tie rods on my driver side are shot, and a ticking time bomb. I drive for Uber, and cant afford to have this blow on me.Lucas is the one that helped me out. I mean, he saved me. I wasnt going to apply for Snap financing, because I was denied last time, but decided to try anyways. He went through my profile and found out they had originally entered my info incorrectly, and once corrected, I was approved! I could cry (and did). My budget is SUPER tight right now, and am trying to make ends meet so I can get all my bills caught up, and this has saved me. Now I can get all caught up and get this taken care of so I can get back on the road and back to earning my income. Also, he drove by Kwik Star for me. Definitely recommend Tuffy, and recommend Lucas even more so!!!!!Side note, Im embarrassed at how bad I let my air filter get 😅

Really starting to believe this shop is nothing more than a money shop. Brought my wifes car in for an oil change and then....I walk out with a list of stuff that needs to be done totally over $3,000. Whats stupid about that list, most of those things on there were things we recently had done at our normal shop.We just moved to Cedar Rapids from Coralville and figured this would become our new shop. NOPE! I get that oil change done and a week later, my wifes car starts overheating. I bring into to have a coolant flush done and have that overheating checked out. I heard nothing from the shop until I got back to pick it. I was then informed they did absolutely no work to my wifes car because they found something else wrong that was gonna cost $3,400. Like WTF?!! You mean to tell me you thorough inspection you do missed that exactly one week prior? So I walked out of there with no work done and told o hey, here is another fix that cost over $3,000. Thats a joke! And he just acted like it whatever. Probably because I told him I got a Tuffy credit card so he was just seeing dollar signs. I regret getting opening a Tuffy line of credit and I will closing that right away.Ive never experienced this at any shop ever! Trying to tell I need a transmission flush when...that was just done 2 months ago. Did they really check it? No! Its a money shop. Wouldnt be surprised if they purposely mess things up to make money because as I stated, they never told me anything close to this.

Very upset. Called to make an oil change appointment but the morning of the appointment someone from the shop text me 45 minutes before the appointment and asked me to reschedule for 2 days later. They promised us a discount if we switched our appointment so we did. The day of the appointment arrived I noticed that they over charged us when my husband brought my car home. Then 5 hours after our appointment someone from the shop called to tell us that they had found our oil cap. Apparently they had forgotten to put it back. They apologized and offered us a free oil. While our car was at the shop we had them patch a tire but today the tire pressure warning was in again. The patch job they did yesterday didn’t work. I seriously don’t want them touching my car again.

I brought my car here to get the brakes done: rotors, pads, shoes, the works. After having my car for an entire Saturday afternoon, it was done. Cost me over $800, but thats beside the point. Immediately upon driving my car out of the parking lot, I found that my car now made a strange noise and vibration when I braked. I gave it a few days to rule out breaking in the new brakes, and when it didnt go away, I took the car back in. They blamed me for the noise/vibration, saying that it was because I didnt use my emergency brake enough. So they fixed the noise and told me to use my e-brake occasionally to prevent it from happening again. I got my car back and could still hear the noise faintly, but fine. Over the next week or so, I used my e-brake daily, but the noise and vibration came back and got worse than before. So I took my car back AGAIN. This time they said the maybe the drum they put in was out-of-round. Why wasnt that checked when I took it back the second time? So after a couple hours they call me in for a test drive, to make sure they got it right. After breaking a few times, it came back AGAIN, so they did even more work, and finally got it right. Its been a week and half now, and Im still noise-free. Finally. What kind of an auto repair shop doesnt test drive a vehicle after changing the brakes? If they had tested it, they would have heard the noise/vibration and should have fixed it on the spot. I wasnt charged for my subsequent visits, but this company was a HUGE waste of my time, and I have ZERO confidence in them as a business. And I feel that I was over-charged for the breaks to begin with.FIND A DIFFERENT MECHANIC.

I have mixed feeling overall about this place. I came to them initially for an oil change. Thats all I wanted and it took longer than I expected, after they were finished, they called me back to look under my truck at a broken bolt from the exhaust manifold and told me that it needed to be replaced and they needed to get a kit and grind something down. I wasnt really interested in discussing it any further at that time and asked them to give me a quote for it. I thought that was the end of it, but the guy Id been talking too at the front desk continued to press on me to make an appointment with them to get it fixed. He brought it up 3 additional times while i was at the front desk trying to pay and I actually had to interrupt him so i could pay for my oil change and be on my way. I headed out the door to get into my truck as they brought it around front and the mechanic who changed the oil even stopped me briefly and wanted to talk about the noise on my truck due to the broken bolt. To me, this was a lot of unneeded pressure to make a sale. All I ask is that you give me all the information that I need to make an informed decision. I appreciate being informed, but at the end of the day, I am the customer and I will make the decisions about my vehicle.Fast forward 3 weeks later, when I decided to have this fixed. My logic is since these guys were already aware of the problem I wouldnt have to catch anyone else up to speed and they would already know what needs done. I made an appointment online, which was nice. I specified in the comments section that I would require a ride to my home and picked up again and I also set an time frame that I needed to have my truck back. ( I was aware that this fix was not a quick process and allowed several hours to my threshold as I had other obligations that day) I left the key and one of the mechanics gave me a ride home. I did not have to wait, which I appreciated. An hour prior to my expected time I received a call that my truck was finished and ready for me. The mechanic who dropped me off came and picked me up. When we got back to Tuffys I found my truck sitting in front of the building running with the key on and unattended (ultra not happy about that). I pay for the service and at that time they mention that the other side will probably need done too...My initial thought is, why wasnt i made aware that both sides need done, instead of just one. Also note, the noise that my truck was making that clued them in that this needs done, is still making the same noise. So in summary, there were some smooth things that happened and some stuff that I just wasnt happy with at all. I dont know if Ill be back at this point, Im still kinda on the fence about it.

Eric Brecht is the best mechanic ever. I had a bad gasket in my car for YEARS, literally. And had my car looked at by another mechanic that told me it was something else and was going to cost me 450-500 dollar to fix but that it was not necessary to fix, just my car would be loud...Well after while it started to smell really really bad in my car like exhaust, and I was getting dizzy and light headed all the time, and was very worried because I had a new born baby...had Eric look at my car and come to find out it was literally JUST a bad gasket, that was VERY cheap. Now I have no more exhaust smell, my car is quiet now, and I do not get dizzy and light headed anymore. Eric has also fixed my brothers car, and my moms car for us. If you go to Tuffys, better make sure all the parts of your car are on/in your car before you leave! They didnt put the engine cover back on my car, technicians found it in the shop but never called me to let me know they had it. If someone makes an error, understandable, but not calling to rectify the error is not. They had stolen it, took it without my permission, not bothering to try to find the correct owner. How hard is it for a company to pick up a phone & call anyone who had work done on their car to see if it was theirs? How many of the same make as my car could have been there on the same day, or within a couple of days as mine? If I hadnt known it was on my car when I dropped it off & missing a week later when I looked under hood, I would never have gotten it back!

Well shortly after and i mean hours later the vehicle power shut off. Popped open the hood, and noticed the alternator connectors werent attached. Days later the timing belt pulley snapped off, this is the good part they magically had a replacement part readily available. A car which is difficult to get parts, I once replaced a radiator hose that took a couple days and a direct order from the DEALERSHIP. Now $300 later and a new pulley, I drove back to Kansas City not thinking of anything until I got to my destination and noticed not only a large oil leak but the motor was done!I wouldnt allow these individuals to change a light bulb. I am myself a young woman, looking at you previous reviewer, and in no way did they take advantage of me. I went in to get my oil changed at my regular servicer who could not locate the cause of a grinding noise located on my front drivers side, and they recommended I bring it in to Tuffy. When I arrived there was only a hour to close, and a car being repaired before mine. I explained my situation, they brought it in, and were able to locate my problem within ten minutes max. They allowed me to come into the shop, which most places won’t allow on liability counts, and walked me through what needed to be done. They then went above and beyond by checking the entire car over including taking a closer look at my windshield wiper motor which a previous mechanic claimed was broken (surprise, it wasn’t). They gave me reasonable estimates for everything, and were not pushy when I turned down services I didn’t particularly need nor wanted. They escorted me home in the Tuffy van, were able to finish the repairs well ahead when they predicted, and even were able to charge me less than the estimated cost. For a spur of the minute ordeal that could have potentially ended in worse fates had I simply ignored it I was extremely pleased with Tuffy’s service.

If you are a woman, much less a young woman then I would go elsewhere. I went in and legitimately needed 4 new tires to the tune of over $500. The manager then proceeds to tell me that he wont do the alignment because I have a bad ball joint and he had to replace the control arm in order to align the car. Now, I had the control arm replaced a year ago at my regular mechanic so I knew he was full of crap. He pulled this game of your car is unsafe and I dont want to see your new tires get shot because you wont get this done. He also offered to align my car for free if I let him do the control arm work to the tune of almost $400 extra (bringing the total to well over $1,000). I walked out of there with just 4 new tires and made an appt with my regular mechanic to do any work that actually needed done (if any, other than an alignment). This is not the first time this Tuffys location, and this manager, have pulled this kind of crap with me. They are quick which is the only reason I used them again as it was rather urgent but they will always find other things wrong with your car and pressure/bully you into having them do unnecessary work. I had my ball joints done by the one on Edgewood Rd. @3 months after I was traveling home and the ball joint snapped in HALF. My car hit the ground messing up my fender and bumper. I had it towed to the same location. They did the repair and told me that they did it at cost. After going to the auto parts store to get my defective ball joint back, I found that they had actually marked up my parts again AND that they got them for FREE as they were lifetime parts. I was told the only way a ball joint would break like it did if I wasnt off roading was if it were tightened beyond specs. Tuffys did eventually give me my money back. However, I am still stuck with a car with a messed up bumper and fender. Do not use them. They are cheats. The area manager was made aware of my situation and let the manager charge me for the parts.

Overall I was not pleased with the service I received. I scheduled a 9:00 am oil change. I get to Tuffys and am greeted nicely. Although my car sat in the parking lot for a half hour before they even pulled it into the shop. Which was not a huge deal because it looked like they where pretty busy. They finally start to work on my car around 10 am. After 45 minutes their assistant manager comes up to me and explains all of the problems with my car. He told me I needed my wheels balanced, a new cabin air filter, new front breaks and a break fluid flush. Keep in mind that all of this needed to be done immediately. I think the mechanic was trying to con more money out of me, I am a young girl who does not look like I know much about mechanical work. Which I do not, but I do know to get a second opinion. So I opted out of their services. I got a second opinion from my regular mechanic who is in Dubuque. He said their is absolutely no reason for a break fluid flush, and no reason for a tire balancing. I did need new break pads though. They quoted me 450 dollars (just for my breaks!?). I got other estimates from other local shops all ranging from 130-200 dollars. Overall I feel like they tired taking advantage of me, and Tuffys will not be receiving my business again.

Never go to Tuffys. Their practices in dealing with women and youth are bordering on predatory. I will be posting my displeasure about our experience with them on every social media outlet so I can touch the thousands of people in my network. Sent my son in to get an oil change and come out with transmission service and the oil change. $215 instead of $25.
