For our Cambridge to Maryland move, I first went to the different vanlines and felt like they were under-quoting to reel me in and provided inconvenient moving times (two week windows when your belongings would arrive at the destination). It sounded like there was a lot of risk in furniture getting mixed up and damaged with our furniture being moved between different trucks and different movers for pick up and drop off. Smart Penny was very straightforward on all of these issues: they gave a very fair quote with a fixed rate and scheduled convenient pick up and drop off times that I requested. It was the same in-house movers with the same truck for our stuff. It felt very personalized and reasonable. I called for a quote and Oleg came out that same day. Michael was super accommodating and available for questions at all stages of the move. The movers were absolutely excellent. They picked-up/unloaded our belongings efficiently in about two hours. They were careful and professional. To our surprise, there are really no damages to our furniture to speak of – impressive for a 7-8 hour drive through several major cities. A friend of mine referred me to Smart Penny Moving, having used them for four moves of his own (apartment to apartment, to finally a house), so I decided to quote and ultimately schedule them.My husband and I used them for a move from an apartment to new house, and given our timeline, we decided to request their services for packing as well as transport (but not unpacking).The initial quote was pretty conservative (they estimated about 11-12 hours of work), and the movers absolutely knocked it out of the park.They showed up at the very beginning of the window of time they had estimated for their arrival, and started in earnest. They were completely prepared -- they had boxes, packing material, tape, blankets for wrapping sensitive and fragile things, and carts for moving boxes from A to B.It was a little nerve-wracking to watch people youd met only fifteen minutes ago begin dismantling your home, but honestly it took them about a fifth of the time it wouldve taken us, and when we started unpacking things in our new house, my husband and I saw that everything had been fantastically well packed -- all of the plates, bowls, mugs, and glasses had been individually wrapped; the boxes themselves had been labeled with their provenance (i.e., kitchen, hall closet, bedroom); sensitive items of clothing were left on hangers that hung on racks in large wardrobe boxes so they wouldnt wrinkle. The only thing that didnt survive the move was a $50 Ikea BILLY bookcase, which had already been through one move and was probably on its last legs, anyway.The best part is, it took them about half the time that was quoted to us.I highly recommend Smart Penny Moving -- the crew was professional, diligent, and honest. Highly recommend Smart Penny! The Move Coordinator who arranges the move is very professional, very helpful and everything is automated from signing the contract to online payment. The movers are also very professional, very efficient and careful with your belongings. In addition, for our move, they had to stack a lot into our basement. They did a great job carefully stacking to minimize space used while being careful that nothing will be damaged.

Good value - the price $ was best that I could find in the area. The guys were able to pack up our furniture from our old place and moved it to where it needed to go in our new place in a timely and professional manner.You only pay for travel time, moving time, and any supplies used (though that is not a substantial cost), so we packed/moved as much as we could ourselves so the overall cost came out lower than the estimate.

We used Smart Penny for a local move. As someone who has moved every 2 to 3 years for the last 12 years and has hired a lot of movers, I was not overly impressed. After we had an in person quote for 8 to 9 hours, my husband and I had moved at least 20% of our belongings and expected it to take less. However, for 3 men (mind you Ive only ever had 2 movers at a time), this was the slowest move weve ever had. First off, somehow travel time was billed as 1 hour from North Reading to Salem (a 25 to 30 min drive), then once we left the apartment for our new house a 12 to 15 min drive away, leaving at the same time as they did, they didnt arrive for another 30 minutes!At one point we asked them how much longer they estimated it would take to finish loading the truck (so that we knew when to order pizza for them at the new house), and the dead giveaway that they were just milking it was that he LOOKED AT THE TIME to tell me one more hour. They did an average job with the move besides that, attention to detail overall could have been better (like passing on address/access instructions to the movers after their guy came for the quote). ln summary, I definitely wouldnt use Smart Penny again.

Hard working team that hustled to move all of our stuff. The crew was 3 guys, including the crew chief. They had it easy moving us out of our old apartment with the help of an elevator but had their work cut out getting our stuff into the new place on the third floor of a 3 floor walk-up. Only constructive criticism is that for a one bedroom apartment, although 2 movers suffice, I think 3 should be the minimum when several large and heavy pieces of furniture have to be disassembled and put together again. I would rather pay more per hour for 3 movers and save on the time instead.

I hired this company to finalize a move that was not finished by the previous company I hired... They were open 2 hours longer than the previous guys and other competitors, so I could reach them on one day at 5:10 pm, and Michael organized a crew of two people for the very next day, less than 24 hours anticipation. The movers were kind, hard working, friendly and effective. They came with a huge truck so we had no space limitation. They hurried when we needed, and slowed down when I needed to make sure we were not forgetting anything important. They were on the same boat with me, really making the effort to complete the job for me. The pricing was very reasonable, lower than others. It did take a bit longer than we had estimated previously, but not much longer, and actually that has happened to me with previous moves as well, and the job was done carefully so I have no complains.
