Pagu is probably one of the best restaurants in Cambridge for quality of food, service, and ambiance. I have eaten here 3 times now and have tried about half of the menu - the cheesy wafflato, the mushroom pan de cristal, roasted brussel sprouts, duck confit, and soft serves are must-get. The unagi bao buns were on the drier/chewier side; the ramen wasnt too special; and the veggie paella was just alright. All the servers Ive encountered were friendly!
This review is a much overdue review for one of my favorite places in the greater Boston area.Ive celebrated many life events here, from anniversaries, family/friends visiting, graduations... it was even one of the last restaurants I went to before moving away from Boston. The reason I frequented Pagu for these events in my life was because of the special experience I had here each and every time. The menu is innovative and constantly changing. I wont even try to review every dish in my photos; the important part is that each one is well thought out and delicious!! Since leaving Boston, I have not found a place like Pagu that always made me feel so at home while providing me with an incredible dining experience. It saddens me to know that they are getting a lot of hate for requiring proof of vaccination to dine in. I believe that the Pagu team is just doing everything they can to keep their customers and their staff safe. I hope we can all have empathy for others, especially during this unprecedented pandemic.
DisappointingFusion. Their menu is all over the place !?Might work for some, not for mePortions were super smallThe housemade flat noodles (those 2 bowls are one portion kindly split by the kitchen)We asked if this was spicy as that what the menu states and they said it was all fineIt was super spicyMy friend and I could NOT eat itAlso when preferring drinks they recommend wine by the glass from the bottle menu. So I ordered that and after 1 glass they initially could not offer me a second glassWas really weird for them to really get me that wine and then not being able to refillEventually they “found another bottle”Will not recommend
It is hard to get to all great places in Boston. There are just too many. But Pagu should be on your list! The place is very inviting with a very generous outside seating area. The atmosphere just perfect for a date night. You can actually hear each other talking, sitting across from each other. The staff is amazing and very helpful. I loved the app selection. The pork steam bun should be my last meal. The roasted Brussels sprouts with some super tasty aioli were the big surprise for the entire table. Just perfect and delicious.I don’t get the papaya salad. IT’s not exciting to me. But I never bought a papaya at a farmers market in my life. Maybe just not my thing.Salmon ceviche… out of this world! I was surprised that the salmon was sliced that thick but it worked. Add this to my last meal list…When the black cod on cedar hit the table I could not wait to taste it. The smell was already heaven. And the cod was like butter. Very, very good butter. My vegan Paella was the best vegetable paella I ever tasted. (Sorry Spain!)Thanks to the entire team for a great meal.Chef Tracy Chang, I’m a big fan of your work!!
Staff and ambiance were great, so my review is not a reflection of the service at this establishment, but this was the most disappointing dinner Ive had in a very long time. Maybe it was because there were so many good reviews on Google that my expectations were high, but I dont think the food here would even live up to low expectations.Squid ink unagi baos: bun was dry and chewy.Salmon ceviche: fishy. Very unevenly chopped and we got some chunks that were pure fat. Needed salt.Miso black cod: cooked perfectly but needed salt. The seaweed salad it came with also needed salt. Which is like...unusual, I mean its seaweed.Koji steak: probably the best dish we tried, but the fries it came with tasted like reheated frozen fries. Steak was seasoned and cooked well though!Kyoto temple: this cocktail was probably the saving grace of our entire meal, it was great! Wonderful smokey flavor and sweet aftertaste.Overall the food was just really underwhelming. I had to ask for salt to season things to taste, which I can honestly say Ive never done before. I felt like I could tell what the chef was going for with each of the dishes, but none of them were quite right. Even the plating of the dishes didnt feel like there was much attention to detail — hence why I only have a photo of 1 of the dishes out of 4.
The atmosphere, energy and thoughtfulness that is put into the menu always has impressed me about Pagu. I went a couple of days ago and tried the ramen for the first time and it was outstanding. The drinks are unique, delicious and different. Im impressed by Pagu because they offer a great spin on traditional classics.
Amazing experience. We had incredible food and a really nice atmosphere. The reason we we t is because they are one of the first restaurants that require proof of vaccination! I wish more places did that, bit for now we will keep going back to Pagu!
The waitress told us everything was made fresh every morning... Seconds later we saw the cook throwing frozen fries out of a plastic bag into the fryer. Needless to say, these fries did not taste good. Real lack of transparency and not worth the price.
Most disappointing. The service at the bar was indecipherably bad (the ladies were occupied with their cell phones, chatting, and eating rice behind the bar with their masks off in front of us). The food arrived cooler than lukewarm but more importantly lacked any specific depth of flavour. Mapo tofu was wet and tasted like Panda Express fried rice. Squid ink unagi Bao was unnecessarily contrived and the eel was disappointing in flavour. And don’t even get me started on the duck confit: $28 for a grey, dry leg from an emaciated duck with some sad arugula on the side? I don’t even want to deign to give the other dishes the time of day. I fail to see any inkling of the groundbreaking fusion of Japanese and Spanish cuisines, as has been touted by other reviewers. Needless to say, we won’t be back and we apologize for imposing on their open ended break time.
Got the Katsu Chicken. It took 50 minutes to come out. The server blamed the kitchen but it was clearly not the kitchens fault because it was completely cold, despite the server saying that it had just come out as she was setting it down. I dont like that she blamed the kitchen for her own misteps. Not cool. The Katsu Chicken was extremely bland. It looked nice (pictured) but it tasted like nothing. I dont think Ive ever had chicken that bland before. Honestly, H-Marts is better.Got the sangria but it just tasted like blueberry juice.Overall, not a great experience. I overpaid for the worst chicken Ive ever had.Would have been 2 stars but giving 3 stars because the waffles were good. Get those if you go.
Great place for vegetarian options. Delicate flavors and fantastic textures. Outstanding menu. Cocktails were good but not amazing.
I had a wonderful meal at Pagu with my family (actually third time eating here). All the food was terrific and good wine list to pair with it. Definitely need at least two plates per person as it is tapas/pintxos style...with all the tasty options its actually a good thing you have to chose multiple. The black cod was outstanding as was the salmon. Will be back!
Great as long as you have your papers and the vaccine plus boosters. otherwise sit outside in the cold. its for your safety
Pagu is one of my favorite restaurants. Food is great, there is a lot of work on the plates. The drinks are always on point, the liquor selection is amazing.
High quality meal, everything we had was yummy. The tempura Brussels sprouts were great and I really liked my Lei it on me cocktail.
Writing a first-ever Google review due to an awful experience. Food was incredibly under seasoned, ordered 6 dishes between 2 people and 4/6 were so unflavored they tasted like nothing. Ended up sending the last dish back after it was sitting on our table basically untouched for several minutes. The manager then came to the table and was extremely rude, saying tjat if we had an issue we should have said something sooner and that it was our fault for not mentioning issues to the server prior to sending the last dish back. Refused to remove menu items from the check despite saying they were inedible. Upon leaving, we overheard the servers/hosts speaking negatively about us, laughing at us as we walked past because we complained. DO NOT come to this restaurant.Edited to add: ended up calling the restaurant after the fact to mention being laughed at by servers/hosts. Was told by manager they would “look into it” without asking for any clarifying information about who our server was and who the people were pointing/laughing at us were. Terrible end to an absolutely awful experience - it’s one thing to not have great food, but it’s an entirely other issue to handle a complaint so poorly.
Incredible food, drinks, and service! We are in Boston as part of our east coast honeymoon tour, and this has been by far one of our favorite stops! When they found out we were on our honeymoon they comped us pretty much one of each of the desserts, which were AMAZING. Were thinking of coming back tomorrow! Get the marinated steak, you dont even need a knife to dig in!
Literally some of the best food I’ve ever had.
Fantastic food and very original preparations. The cedar campfire black cod was the highlight for me.
The staff was very good and the atmosphere was nice but the food was not good at all and expensive for what it was. Three people at my table got the ramen and only could get two bites in and the calamari was the worst I have ever had. The portion sizes were very small. Super disappointing
My first time here, and I decided to try the tasting menu. While the food was delicious and well-presented, I thought the presentation could be better - there was no explanation of the plates, and the waiter just dropped off the food without a word. I feel that I was expecting at least some form of presentation, and that would have greatly improved my understanding and appreciation of the plates. Because of this, I consider this a good meal, but I would not come back again as I did not find the experience special.
Acquired taste for some but good nonetheless. Value is fine but not great.
The small plates are generally very interesting and enjoyable. Asparagus, waffles, and several interesting steamed buns are all solid. Ramen is varied, different, and worthy. But the star of this show is the dessert menu. Smoked purple yam ice cream, Milk and Cookies, Coconut Lime Soft Serve, and Walk In The Woods were all very different and excellent in their creativity and execution.
Definitely a good place to go to on date night or with a friend on a week or weekend night. The overall atmosphere, service and drinks are good. Their ramen is really good!I wasnt very impressed by their small tapas plates, they werent that special.Definitely a bit expensive. But still worth going to.
We went there for my birthday meal (with such high expectation and hype)! Usually I start with 5 stars and deduct. However with Pagu I would say the stars were for the environment and the service (even though they had a 4% kitchen convenience charge so do I tip 15 or 11%?). The food did look nice however they werent to die for so I dont think we will need to go again.
Some of the food was good but considering the price, the meal was nothing special. The ramen was very fishy for a pork ramen and cabbage was soggy. The croquettes were the best thing we had but were just good. Meal was 150 for two people and we did not get alcohol and left still hungry. Sort of disappointed.
This is the only place I will eat at in Cambridge!! Thank you for requiring vaccination for indoor dining! Thank you for keeping employees and customers safe!
Thank you Chef Tracy for requiring proof of vaccination. I agree that this is important to do for indoor dining right now and support you!
Expensive. Specialty drinks especially were priced higher than the quality dictated. A limited menu, but with some fun combinations. Tapas style you order a few plates. The oyster in squid ink bao is probably the showstopper, but the traditional pork belly bao with cilantro was worthwhile too. Other dishes and drinks seemed pale in flavor comparably. Large and open yet comfortable space and genial waitstaff.
Chicken Katsu was boring. The aioli was plain flavored. Brussels sprouts were great though
We had a delicious meal. Food is a mix of Japanese small dishes with a tapas style twist. The staff was excellent. Food was very tasty from the sashimi to the Ramen. Drink menu is excellent as well. The place is on the pricey side, but worth it as everything is carefully prepared of very high quality.
With friends in town who love Asian food, I was between here and Myers + Chang (as small plates are my favorite way to try a bunch of different things). I had already been to Myers + Chang so we decided to try something new.Made a reservation for 8:30 and we got there a little early and were seated by 8:40. My friends got cocktails (Sanguina Y Tonic) which they enjoyed but I was here for the food.SETTING: Very dimly-lit (as you will see from the pictures below) but vibrant setting. Really cool bar with the bartenders in aprons. Lots of high-top tables that are pretty close together. There is also a counter where people can sit and watch the kitchen.FOOD: Ill list everything we got in order of what I would recommend. I realize we got mostly fried food but fried food is good.Tempura Brussels Sprouts - Brussels sprouts, either pan-fried or deep-fried, are always a must. The hot sauce and aioli were delicious too. The best thing we ate.Squid Ink Bao - A unique take on a bao bun but its pitch black (due to squid ink) with a fried oyster on it. Definitely a small bite but a very delicious one.Cedar Campfire Black Cod - This fish melted in our mouths. The portion size was quite small for $23 but damn it was good. The seaweed salad wasnt really a value-add to the dish.Fried Goat Cheese - Covered in pistachios and on top of arugula and beets, this was a delicious salad. The richness of the fried outer portion helped offset the tartness of the goat cheese within.Cheesy Wafflato - A thin waffle with cheesy and caramelized shallots. Tasted pretty good but given the description, I wish they were bigger and oozed more cheese. Could have been better.Curry Crab Croquetas - I am candidly not a big croqueta fan so I am biased here but these were just meh. Nothing special compared to the other things we ordered.PRICE: Definitely on the more expensive side for the portion size but I was very happy with the meal.Probably wont be back soon but definitely a good option for Asian small plates in Boston.
Food was great, unfortunately the lunch service was puzzling. We were asked repeatedly on no less than four occasions if our table had food allergies. Then our plates were cleared without asking if were done. And after sharing that we werent done as there was still food on the shared appetizers, the wait staff was still going to take the plate away and after more insistence put it back down but took away my chopsticks. Definitely unexpected. The ONLY food issue was that the miso soup was super salty. We ordered spiced pork croquettes with cilantro aioli and tempura brussel sprouts with hot sauce, aioli & togarashi. For mains, we had Cedar Campfire Black Cod with shiro miso, sake, seaweed salad, sesame and miso soup and Teriyaki salmon with XO bok choy, ginger and sesame. Then closed off the meal with the chefs matcha chocolate cookies and a cortado.
This review is for our brunch experience. We were seated at the counter in view of the kitchen, which was pretty fun since we were able to watch all the dishes being prepared. It was probably good that we had that to keep us entertained because the service was a bit on the slow side. The restaurant was super busy, so it was understandable at first. All our dishes were fantastic. The patatas bravas were scrumptious, I ordered the crispy soy egg with jamon (so flavorful!) and my husband had the okonomiyaki. His only complaint was that it felt like the pork topping was small in comparison to the side of the frittata so it didnt feel completely balanced, but overall was yummy. The highlight was our drip coffee courtesy of local roaster, Gracenote. Best cup of coffee Ive had in a while.Once we received our food, our server was never to be seen again, which was a little frustrating because we would have loved some water and coffee refills and we had contemplated getting dessert. I looked around a few times and Im not even sure what happened to her!Eventually someone else came by and ask if we needed anything else. By the time we were a bit bored and ready to head out so we just asked for the check. A bummer because everything up to the point where we got our food was great! Thus, Im forced to knock off a star.Well come back for dinner though, the menu is too tempting not to try again.
Food was good, the pork bao was good and the oyster bao was nice and crunchy, the place looks really nice. But service was a little on the underside, at one point for about 5-10min there were absolutely no staff members to be seen anywhere in the restaurant The people next to me paid their bill but never got their credit card back and were waiting for the staff to come back to get their card, the girl got so frustrated she went to the cashier and pulled her card from the machine and left. If Im in the area Ill try and stop by again and see if it got better. This was on a Sunday afternoon.
Tapas style restaurant serving modern takes on traditional dishes from various Asian countries to varying levels of success. Our waiter was not the most sociable and only explained menu items minimally, but we did get a chance to interact with other waiters and many of them were engaging and helpful.Definitelu recommend the campfire black code (but unfortunately not the miso soup accompaniment)
Dont get to eat there often living out of state, but great food and atmosphere. Also care about health and safety of customers.
I keep coming back to PAGU because I want to love this restaurant more than I do. Everything is tasty but its always a smidge less tasty than what the description leads you to believe. The portions are small (they are tapas style so when you order the ramen, dont expect a full bowl of ramen despite paying $16), the prices are high, but the vibe is so awesome that you always want to come back. Really, PAGU is a masterpiece in marketing and design. On a Friday night, they were buzzy but definitely not crowded -- lots of open 2/4/6 person tables available and spaces at the bar. The crab, tomato, and corn mazemen was under-salted and kind of bland, lasted about 8 bites. The togarashi brussels were yummy but borderline over-spiced -- I eat pretty spicy and I could feel the itch in my ears. The chicken katsu looked like a satisfying portion size. Everything -- even the brussels, ran $13-18 per dish.Dessert was quite innovative. We got four: the dorayaki affogato (interesting idea, standard taste), the walk in the woods (definitely the best -- shiitake mushrooms in dessert is crazy good), the sheeps milk yam ice cream (funky and tasty, but a small scoop), and the sichuan chocolate cake (spicy and mouth-numbing). Desserts will run you $6 to $12 per.Overall, come here for the vibe. Get excited about the innovation in each dish but dial back your expectations a little, and youll have a grand time.
This was a really delicious, fun and inventive menu. Everything was beautifully executed and plated. They have a beautiful wide open kitchen and I highly recommend getting a seat at the bar. Cocktails were fantastic and the small dishes are great for sharing. We were a party of two and split 6 dishes - my favorite was the ramen, and the jamon croquetas.
Service was great and food was good but small portions for the price. The servers we had were great and no issues there. Always around when we needed something.Food was good but not worth the price. Too expensive for what it is. There were flavors in my food but I still felt hungry after eating from there.Desert was good.
Been meaning to try Pagu, the Japanese word for pug, for some time and finally got around to it for a special occasion. We sat by the open kitchen and enjoyed watching our food get prepared.Loved the cedar smoked cod and while they looked amazing, was a little underwhelmed by the Squid Ink Baos. Next time, Ill probably go for the pork belly Baos but couldnt resist the hype + photo opportunity.Only criticism is that some of wait staff seemed a little unknowledgeable. Overheard another table ask what Chirashi is and the waiter just read off the menu ingredients.I did appreciate the prompt service. We were in/out in less than hour but could have stayed longer if we desired.
What a wonderful place. I find most restaurants in Boston to be not worth it - I could make a better meal at home, or its stuff I cant make, but someone is trying too hard: novelty without purpose, differentiation for its own sake. Not so here. The food is opinionated, coherent, satisfying, and absolutely delicious. Not a lot of places I can say that about! Sophisticated but unfussy. Nicely designed space and a team that loves what they do. They also seem to be doing a truly best in class job when it comes to COVID protocols/precautions. Big fan of the house spicy noodles, the superb steak (reminds me of a japanese take on steak frites), and the ramen. But everything is honestly really, really good. I will be back.
Pagu could be my new favorite dinner spot in Boston. Everything from the food to the friendly staff made for a great experience. The black cod over the burning wood base and kelp was amazing. Plus the salmon sashimi melted in my mouth like butter. Our waiter brought us some matcha chocolate cookies for dessert which was the perfect way to end our meal. Lastly the location allows for easy access from all over Boston and Cambridge
I didnt have very high expectations going in because fusion food typically has been pretty subpar. Unfortunately Pagu failed to meet my already low expectations. The food wasnt bad per se, but the dishes we got were just very hit or miss. The flavors also werent exactly authentic Japanese nor Spanish as far as I could tell. Moreover, I would say this place is a $$$ price rating; dont be expecting to be full off of one or two dishes. As for the food itself, starting off with the positives, the Squid Ink Oyster Bao was delicious. The oyster was tender and well seasoned, complemented by the squid-ink bao (though the flavor was light in the bao itself). The Salmon Sashimi was absolutely top notch. Juicy, tender, and full of flavor, this dish was definitely the standout of the night. The Island Creek Oyster Shooter was a simple oyster shooter with a ginger twist, which worked well together. The Chilled Steamed Littlenecks were just okay though; fun but nothing standout.Onto the negatives. The Lobster Roll, while adventurous, failed to leave an impact with its unique blend of pear and lobster. I did like the lobster, but the brioche was a little too hard and the odd flavors did little to salvage the roll. I think the lobster was the only redeeming factor here. The Steamed Halibut was really quite dreadful. It was a slab of steamed fish that was just okay if you ate some of the tender parts, but most of it was dry, tough, and flavorless. The vegetable pairings of bok choy and enoki werent exactly fresh and the plating really could have been better (I tried really hard to take a flattering photo of this dish, to no avail.) Unimpressive would be an understatement for this dish.Overall, the quality was inconsistent, especially for the price range, and I would be hard-pressed to return
Pretty good food, but overly pricey for how small the plates are. Theyre unique, Ill give them that, but the sashimi plate is literally 4 slices. Thankfully the waiter explained the sizes and the lunch specials were enough to fill is up. The place itself has a cool atmosphere and the service was prompt. I would say this isnt that unique or interesting to come a second time and pay the prices.
Food is definitely good no denying that. However portions are small since its a tapas style restaurant so expect to order at least 2 dishes per person and spend at least 40$ per person to be full.
Made reservations and didn’t know I needed my vax card. told them I was vaccinated but they didn’t believe me so they asked me to leave. I won’t be returning. Very rude.
Right now Pagu has great provisions - take and bake cookies, or already made cookies, cocktail club subscriptions and delicious edamame hummus as well as meal kits.
Post Covid the food is lacking. Flavors for the Koji Ribeye were not there, coming off as bland. The Katsu needs more spice and seasoning to pair with what is an otherwise well cooked Katsu fillet. Bao is very good but the price is high for the amount. However, cocktails are amazing.
Everything was delicious and we totally intend to come back here to try more dishes. We had the salmon on a bed of perfectly cooked bok choy, the chicken katsu, the pork and crab croquetas, and our deserts - milk and matcha cookies, dorayaki and affogato and the purple yam ice cream. Everything was great, and I especially recommend the fish. Will be coming back.
We had been wanting to go to Pagu for quite a while- and we were happy we went! The food is good, nice flavor and service is superb. The ambience is so nice, the bar seating around the kitchen is awesome. I had the ramen- just beware it’s a much more fishier broth than I expected (too many bonito flakes maybe?). We had the pan con tomate y boquerones, it was just ok. The tomate soaked through the tiny piece of bread and just saturated any crispness and variety in texture the little toast bite could offer. Also $7 for two little pieces of toast and two little fishes is stretching it. I lived in southern Spain one summer in-between my undergraduate degree in the UK and I could go out and get pan con tomate for cheap for breakfast. Simple and inexpensive ingredients, but still delicious. Finally, for dessert we had the cheesecake and chocolate cake. The shining stars were the ice creams- I recommend just getting those as the Japanese cheesecake was quite dense. The matcha ice cream was wonderful and my boyfriend’s Szechuan pepper ice cream was SO good. Would go back just for that.
Food was so good, we never thought to snap a shot - just wanted to dive in. Cocktails were well crafted, Dirty Harry had wonderful smokiness and smooth finish while White Walker was fresh and just sweet enough. Fried rice was the comfort food I needed. Warm green tea matcha cookie was amazing finish. Great for friends and date night: nice ambiance, thoughtful service, and not too loud.
Came here for dinner. Has a fun atmosphere with music in the background and open space. Their menu is more Asian fusion style. For appetizers we tried salad, charred avocado (it was just an avocado 😂), the three different baos they have veggie, beef and squid (beef and squid were delicious), some veggie hummus dish (wasnt that great). For main course I had the beef short rib. It was very moist and soft but was ok. Looked better than it tasted haha. Their drinks were also great I tried several of their cocktails like pica pika, the whiskey based one and a 3rd I forget. For dessert we tried 3 different ice creams, one was matcha, another berry and the third vanilla. The matcha was my favorite out of three, it came with some chocolate in the side, pretty typical nothing out of ordinary. Overall it was a cool place and worth checking out.
Great food, venue and peoples.
Terrible food, bad enough for me to take time and right this review. Would go to McDonald’s before venturing near that kitchen again
Great place that I would go back again. The decor is modern, bright and inviting. The baos and sliders were little flavor explosions in my mouth - loved, loved, loved it! I would not order the mushroom mazemen again, that was just ok.
They have Iberico ham! We just came back from Spain and enjoyed that delicious meat as often as possible. Never thought wed see it here and its just as good. Everything we ate was delicious from the Bao, to the brussel sprouts. So well done. Good service, cool ambiance. Well be back.
Food was excellent and we felt very safe in terms of Covid safety. The flavors were very balanced and the menu was very unique giving us a chance to try different things. Everything was great and had authentic Japanese and Asian flavors. Will definitely be back and strongly recommend a visit to Pagu!
Over priced and not that good an experience
-Outdoor heater wasnt working at our table. Okay, annoying but understandable.-Sake was clearly labeled as 8oz on menu. Was served 4oz. Had to ask to be served the rest of it...-Main courses were served at very different times rather than coming out together (~20 minutes apart)-Pizza was undercooked (cheese wasnt even melted) and had a PIECE OF PLASTIC in one of the bites.-Asked for boxes and a check and waited a full 25 minutes before being brought the check. There were not many tables at this time and no idea where our waiter was.-Built in 20% gratuity for a table of two WITHOUT ANY INDICATION OF THIS BEFORE THE FINAL CHECK. Normally during covid would be fine with this but the service and food was atrocious and overpriced as it was.Very disappointed overall with the experience.
We had a very terrible experience the past Friday evening. Although we had a outdoor table which was clean and maintaining COVID regulations the service was poor. The hostess stopped by our table to get our order after 15 mins, after 30 mins we received our drinks. 15-20 mins after we received our dinner items( we ordered only two). We wanted to place a second order for our drinks and had to wait for almost 30 mins for someone to stop by our table. The food items were served cold to us. Despite reporting this to the hostess, she apologized and brought in another dish mentioning “I made sure it is served hot”, whereas it was cold as well.Overall our experience was very unpleasant as there were only 3 staff members taking care of 20 tables (yes we counted them). We made sure to convey this message however, the hostess was rude and told us “what else would you like us to do?” They are also charging 20% COVID fee for sanitizing/cleaning ( we did not spot any sanitizers or frequent cleaning in between new guests). We were so looking forward to the place and trying it out after reading the reviews however we were very disappointed. We will definitely be not visiting again or recommend at least during COVID.
Wonderfully inventive menu that blurs international borders. Dont want to choose what type of food to eat tonight? Go to Pagu and get one of everything so you dont have to. The food is homey, comforting, and unpretentious despite having one toe over the line into the realm of fine dining. The squid ink uni bao are a work of art and the black cod on burnt cedar is a treasure. Great takeout option during Covid times and they also sell their sundry goods in their online grocery store!
Great meal. Went with a friend who lives in the area and had been before. Interesting flavor combinations. Their tapas style dishes allow you to try multiple things. We had several appetizers, two different ramen and bao. Overly attentive staff but that wasnt a bad thing.
Probably the worst ramen that Ive had. The noodles were overcooked and the pork was hard and chewy. The broth was briny and nearly inedible. Overall it was an expensive bowl of ramen that wasnt worth it even if it were much cheaper.
Amazing noodles. Amazing staff. Amazing experience... I’m proud to support excellence.
I celebrated my nomination earlier this evening in this fine place. Well we enjoyed a fabulous evening and the venue was no doubt the reason for that fruitful celebration. The crew cooperated in a splendid way, the food was tasty and my buddies were extremely happy. We shall definitely come back again for more joyful events. Thank you very much.
Great meal on the verge of excellence.Visited Pagu with a party of three and we all left happy and satisfied. The waitress recommended 2-3 plates each and that was the perfect amount of food. The Pork Belly Bao Buns were the star of the show, followed closely by the Short Rib and the Brussel Sprout Tempura. The Ramen was also delicious, with a complex broth and tender chashu. The Chicken Katsu and Pickled Cabbage dish were less successful. The Katsu was just a little plain, I was expecting more depth of flavor from the curry sauce. The Cabbage almost had the opposite problem, it was smothered in an aioli which was tasty but a bit too plentiful. Neither one was bad, but compared to the other dishes they were lacking. The cocktails were delicious and unique. The wine-drinkers in the party also enjoyed the suggestion from the waitress.All-in-all it was a good experience and I would go back, but based on the price and the expectations going in the meal felt like it was just short of a 5-star experience.I think the best way to enjoy Pagu would be to sit at the bar, get a couple cocktails and few of the best small plates (bao buns and tempura). The high points were definitely high, but there were also some middling dishes that brought the overall quality down.
Got the GMR lunch set and the Liam Nesson drink. Fantastic food. Quick service.
Chrysanthemum sake hand picked by the owner. Shows the level of detail and perfection executed by the owner and manager wow
Great staff and very interesting (and tasty) cuisine, but perhaps a bit pricey for what it is.
Excellent food an service!
Nice atmosphere and good food. Do yourself a favor and make sure you try the pork belly bao :)
Love the fusion balanced
Ever since I moved out from Cambridge, I Miss their ramen and fried rice. The oysters bun taste so good too! Hope I can go back once have chance again!
Great food, great service. Plus I liked be able to try new things and flavor combinations without getting too far out of my comfort zone.
One of the finest dining experience Ive experienced so far. I also love how the menu is categorized in such way that it makes it easier to order; the little dictionary is extremely helpful, too. What would happen if Spain and Japan where two adjacent States in the same continent? Well, you could imagine Pagu as the true culinar hinge between the two.My favorite dishes: Fried Oyster Bao, Pork Belly Bao, Salmon Fried Rice, Shiitake, Crispy Smoked Cod...The list of cocktails is also fenomenal.
One of my preferred places to grab something to eat. very good location, neat, and awesome customer service. I recommend this place!
Bad service, bad food! On top of that they charge 20% gratuity on the name of PPE to every table regardless of the party size! What a joke! While I write this review I am still waiting for my noodles which the server forgot to tell kitchen! Each n every dish which arrived the table was cold, not even warm! She offered one dish waffalito on the house and ALAS that was also cold! Waste of time! Don’t come here, at Leats in pandemic times!! One weekend night wasted!
Amazing cod !!!👍👍👍
The food and service here will slay you. Terrific! Memorable. Yum with great wine/cocktails.
Great Vegan options!
Great staff and tastey food - perfect combination!
When Spanish food and Asian food meets.Amazing taste combination, very elegant and interesting atmosphere.Quite wide range of vegetarian and vegan options.Staff was super nice and the location is optimal.
The food is consistently well prepared and yummy, workers provides good service. I loved how clean it is and ambience. I highly recommend this place.
The food here was absolutely delicious. I loved their cheesy mini waffles. The fish was cooked absolutely perfectly. The ramen was so yummy. I would absolutely recommend Pagu.
We waited for 20+ minutes before someone came and take our order and another 30+ minutes for the food to come. The food was ok, but not worth the price I am paying for.Plus, they are charging 20% for the so called COVID Response I dont know about that until we saw the receipt. This is ridiculous, I am supporting the local business by dining in and have to pay for an extra 20% for the so-called COVID Response??Would not recommend it. They are just trying to maximize the profit.
