LACK OF INTEGRITY!!UPDATE - we left our customer copy of bill at the table. The restaurant decided to tip themselves more than what we had tipped them. Lack of integrity and honesty. Never seen any other restaurant do this. Pathetic people. Never going back again and will NOT recommend anybody to go here.Reducing from 3 star to 1 star.Previous review!!Quite unhappy with the restaurant.I have had Ethiopian food in NY, Boston & DC and this place was not as good. I had ordered vegetarian combination platter and the quantity of each side dish was so much LESSER than what is usually served at other Ethiopian restaurants and nobody charges for additional injera when you purchase a combo platter. I was charged extra $2 here. I also ordered samosa and only 1 mini samosa was served for $3. Other places serve 2 samosas. The restaurant was otherwise well maintained. The food was served quickly. Washrooms were clean, injera was decent and the side dishes were okay( Curries were not creamy ). One side was missing but they served a boring salad instead. Not going here again. If you’re trying Ethiopian for the first time this is not the place to go.

Update:12/2019So I got 3 orders for takeout and the two lamb dishes (Key Wot and Alicha Wot) are so over and chewy and my beef Key Wot is so over that the best way to describe it is rehydrated beef jerky. Its stringy and gritty. They should probably remove the salad from the dish because I mean its literally only a square inch of lettuce and it doesnt transport well in the container. (Fork in photo for reference)Hopefully this is just a unlucky miss and wont happen again but again this was $66 worth of food that just doesnt taste that great.6/19This place is really good. I just wish their dishes came with the lentils for $20+. Their depth and flavor really shines. Make sure to get their stews and youll really enjoy it.

Finally got to have Ethiopian food for the first time in ages and was not disappointed. Reasonably priced, super fast and friendly staff. Samosas were absolutely wonderful and the combination platter for 2 was a taste of everything. So happy to have them in our neighborhood.

I want to give an A+ for service alone. This place has been consistently friendly, fast, and welcoming for families. The Ethiopian music videos are a nice touch. Definitely worth the trip.

Really excellent Ethiopian food with super fast and attentive service! We got the ultimate platter for 2 both times and EVERY item on it was delish!Only drawbacks are that you dont get a lot of food for the price, and like others said, the injera is cold so it cools the food down pretty quickly. They also dont have a sign up after 6 months and its very small and easy to walk by, so hopefully theyll boost their marketing a bit!

The waitress was polite and fast. There was no drink available except for water, wine and beer. The food is disatrerous across the board. Bretmitad tibs wasnt fresh. The lamb tibs tasted like it was washed out of alicha wot. The butter in the kitfo was so bad that the after taste couldnt go the next day when I decide to write this review. Chef (if there is any) and manager were not willing to speak. We felt bad for the waitress who was taking the fire at the front while the manager is hiding behind.

I like Ethiopian food and wanted to like this place, which could be a great addition to the neighborhood. But the veggie combo came with 4/7 of the dishes that were advertised, and for $18, it was just not enough food— less than half what you get at the Ethiopian places in central or fenway or malden. The injera was pretty sour and the food arrived cold. The gomen, fosolia, and atakilt were missing... if this wasn’t the most expensive veggie combo from an Ethiopian place in Boston, then I wouldn’t be complaining.

They serve an amazing Veggie Platter. With balanced spicing and a set of four different fillings - 2 types of lentils, collard greens, and, my favorite, potato - this is a perfect, filling, and healthy dinner for a vegetarian. I loved the flavors and will be coming back because its a 10 minute walk from Davis Square. Its good food to take to-go - theyre open for takeout during the lockdown.

Coming from someone who is Ethiopian and eats Ethiopian food regularly I must say I am very disappointed by the food and tastes. I keep going back just to give them the benefit of doubt but everytime they fail me. Never again I will go back to that restaurant. The last time I order the combination dish the egg was going bad and it was almost black in color. Save your money and find another place.

Small, unassuming Ethiopian restaurant located on Massachusetts Avenue in North Cambridge. Friendly, but inexperienced, staff. Excellent food. This is the best Ethiopian food I have had in the Boston area. I look forward to going back. Limited, on-street metered parking available.

This is a great addition to the North Cambridge dining scene! If you like Ethiopian food, you will love this place! If you are looking to try Ethiopian, it has many selections from which you can choose.Whether you are familiar with Ethiopian cuisine or not, I suggest trying a combination platter. We had the Ultimate Combination platter, and it was delicious! There were many dishes on the platter and enough of each dish to be satisfying. There was a sweet taste to a couple of the dishes that we had not experienced at other Ethiopian establishments, but it wasnt an overpowering taste. We also had the Tomato Fitfit appetizer, and it was excellent, too! It was very spicy (which we like). If you dont like very spicy food, they might be able to reduce or remove the chopped chili peppers. The service was great, and the owner is very friendly. If you have the time, ask him to tell you about the pictures and paintings on the wall. He will be happy to tell you about them, and youll learn a lot about Ethiopia, past and present.

I rarely leave reviews of restaurants.Sheger is an incredible addition to the restaurants in the area. The food is incredible, reasonably priced and always tastes remarkably fresh. The Injera is delicious and all of the appetizers and main dishes are delicious. If you are reading this and considering whether to go, you should. You will not regret it.

Sheger Cafe is very friendly staff and good quality of Eithiopian food. I will recommend to anyone who want to try easten of Africa food and from mother of land. Food taste delicious. Quantity is good. But they need to work more adding enough ingera. The location is great and inside atmosphere is cosy and comfortable. Is lot of pictures presenting Eithiopian culture.

In the last 10 years there has been a growing availability of Ethiopian food on the Boston area. Two restaurant have separated themselves from the rest not only for the amazing food but also the great staff, and Sheger Cafe is one of them.I would highly recommend their shiro. Sheger has the best shiro in Boston!

We are so excited that a delicious Ethiopian restaurant has opened just around the corner from us! Food was fresh and hot and fast. We had the big combo platter- everything was yum! Notable items: lentils were perfectly cooked and spiced, the chicken was tender and savory with just the right kick, and collards were perfect. Past reviewers complaints seem to have been worked out. This place a gem.

My wife and I are big fans of Addis Red Sea here in town, so we wanted to try out the newest Ethiopian place in town when it opened this weekend. Food was tasty and we were served relatively quickly. CELIAC BEWAREAmazing food!!!! Authentic injera made of pure teff. However I have celiac disease and I got very sick after eating here. Also the service was very slow due to a catering order and communication with staff was difficult due to langue barrier.I would not recommend this place for a date. The ambiance is definitely lacking. But if you want amazing Ethiopian and can handle some gluten then check it out!!!

This place is nothing to write home about in terms of decor or service, but the sampler platter that I ordered with my date made this a 5-star experience. It was my first time at an Ethiopian restaurant and I was amused by the fact that I was not given silverware, instead tasked with scooping different stewed meats and veggies with an extremely spongy flatbread (injera). It was really a terrific way to eat -- there was no silverware temporarily wasting space in my mouth, it was all delicious food. There was a wide range of spices used in the different dishes, most comparable to Indian food, and the level of spiciness was just right for my moderate American pallet. The waiters werent refilling our waters or checking in frequently, even though it wasnt busy, but I think this is just because its a laid-back, no-frills dining experience centered around good food.

Vegetarian food was boring and not as good as other Ethiopian restaurants. Service was very slow. We had to ask for water multiple times, and refills of water were also very slow. The only reason this wasnt one star is because the food was edible, even though it was not good.Save time and money and go to a different restaurant.l

I was absolutely delighted to have pure-teff injera. I love Ethiopian food, but most places in the US serve injera made with wheat, and gluten-sensitive me--Ive had to go without. Also, I am dairy-sensitive, and they accommodated me wonderfully. Excellent food, amazing flavor, and this place was highly recommended by people from Ethiopia, so you know its authentic.

I waited patiently, though this place sadly rarely opens on time. I observed two employees go in before noon, only to leave with food for themselves. They never opened the restaurant for its noon schedule. The owner never bothered to setup the store phone with a voice-mail, which should specify their hours of operation. Nor are their hours listed on the door. Its a decent Ethiopian restaurant, though the lack of professionalism should make you avoid this place.
