This place has been a mainstay for me all pandemic long and I feel bad for not reviewing them sooner. Great larder menu, alongside their mainstays of baked goods and sandwiches. So much well sourced local product - fruits and vegetables, seafood like oysters and meat as well. The ordering g process is easy, the staff are friendly and efficient and they’ve been a neighborhood hub in a whole new way (they always were).

Pricey but delicious! Most remarkable sandwich is the Mahatmas Glove. My only real complaint is the coffee and espresso. Used to be such a treat for me but lately they just taste watery. I keep giving it a try, each time vowing never again. Overall still one of my favorite foodie stops around.

As of May 31, customers still cant go inside. Have to order at door or thru app. Im told it wont fully reopen until fall?I do like that cookies and a mini chocolate tart I bought are often fresh or no more than two days old. Some or many places sell items that arent always so fresh, right? They say scones and I believe muffins are fresh daily.Great place, as it seems much if not all is baked on site!

Food was delicious — we got a chopped salad with roasted chicken and braised short ribs.WARNING: Short ribs are described as being for 1-2 people but it’s barely a serving for 1 person...My BF ended up having to get something else to eat because this was not sufficient as an “entree meal”. For the price of $17 we were expecting a bit more...If you do get it, consider it for 1 person and get multiple sides.

The staff has always been aloof when I’ve gone in. I guess because their bread is “artisanal”? Anyways, much of there food is mediocre tasting. I didn’t realize how mediocre until I started going to the new bakery down the street on Concord Ave. Amazing! So much tastier and the staff are supper warm and nice.

Another one of those yuppie shops that puts more effort into sounding fancy than making something worth the high price. I got a sandwich that had reasonably tasty ingredients, but was about 3/4 bread, 1/4 filling.

This bakery makes some of the best quality bread and sandwiches I’ve had in the area. However, I’ve noticed some disappointing changes over the last years. 1) their sandwiches got smaller and more expensive (way above average high-end bakery prices), and 2) some of their breads are not freshly made. I’ve experienced at least day-old bread when I ordered their corn bread, cinnamon swirl, and brown bread. If I wanted old bread to make toast, I’d buy bread at the super market, not a bakery. I know these are tough times for food businesses, but freshness is a non-negotiable, especially for their prices. I haven’t had any issues with their potato bread, ciabatta, and “rustic” style options, so I suggest sticking to those.

This is our favorite bakery. My husband still drives over once in a while, even though he keeps no carb diet. Their home made jam also beyond words... yes they are expensive, staff not very friendly, and often packed, and parking is not easy. But still our fav. (Also their wine and liquor selection and my tastes don’t agree, but hey it’s a bakery.)

Went here for breakfast and it was worth the trek!! We went on a weekday at 9 and it was still pretty packed so Im sure its bustling on weekends. We got breakfast sandwiches that were phenomenal, mini banana muffins, a ginger cookie and a chocolate cone to go plus a loaf of the Pain dépices for my family I was visiting. Yes we spent about $50 on baked goods and breakfast but it was delicious and expertly executed 😍😍☕🍰🤤

Ive been here dozens and dozens of times. Over the years the staff have been consistently rude. But whatever, I still go because theyre the only coffee option on my walk to work. I finally just had the last straw, though. They charged my card but then wouldnt give me my food because their computer went down. So I get no food and paid $15. They were, reliably, rude about the whole incident. All they could offer was that they wont give you something for free. Enjoy my $15. I hope your business fails so a new owner can take over your space. Last. Visit. Ever.

It is rare I give one star, but we honestly didnt know what to think when we left this bakery. When we saw the prices, we thought they would either be huge, or bursting full of high end ingredients. When my half sandwich arrived I almost asked if there was a mistake with my order. It was a normal sized piece of bread cut in half with some salads and cheese in it (tinnnny). My husbands full size sandwich wasnt much bigger and the meat was oily. They were nothing special, and for the price I was absolutely shocked. Again, I dont want to leave a 1 star review, but the prices at this place are crazy for what you receive, and I was really surprised that had not come up in the reviews before. You can get a similar sandwich at the supermarket for half the price.

Review №22

No star? Why is this bakery still in business? Before Covid, I already saw them as overpriced, over-vipe, over bad customer service. But there is no other coffee shop in huron village. so here I go again, and again fail. You cannot order in person, while being there. No, it has to go on their website. So they let you order on their website and make phone calls to your bank to make sure the charge got processed in order to save you. Of course, there is no good gesture for any costumers and they make you wait long time for a coffee and a pastry (including moms and infants in the heat). Long wait time outside, by the way, during COVID, is not great.I am french. I make my own bread, baguettes, croissants, and everything. Covid made most people step up their game for baking. Do you think that a bakery would try their best to improve their service to stay in business? No, not Hi Rise. Hi Rise is well located. Because it sells baguettes, it is seen as fancy. Because it is largely overpriced, it is perceived as high quality. But i guess we are stuck in Huron Village, without a coffee shop. But come on, i know you are a Company, but you really do not provide a good one.

Its just an OK place to have quick breakfast or lunch. Theres nothing quick about as it takes pretty long to get your order.Seating is limited, so it will be hard to find a place to sit during your visit.Portion size of the sandwiches again are OK but not generous. The ingredients are good though. The prices are high for the place. You can justify the price of a sandwich to be high in Cafe on a Newbury street in Boston with some fancy decorations. This place is not a place like that.We really got annoyed when we noticed the dirt on top of the ventilation pipes. That dirt is basically rains down all day on your food.

In truth, this place bakes good (though overpriced) bread, Perhaps great bread. But honesty also demands I ding them hard for the, insolent, unaccommodating -- and not particularly hygienic-looking workers who bake and serve food here.Today, I asked the register clerk if she would kindly slice my baguette in two. Unreasonable request, I guess.$4 bucks for a loaf of flour, yeast and H20, but one simple slice of a blade was apparently too much effort for the uninterested slacker. We dont slice bread here, she sniffed. Stunned, I managed, Actually you must ...in order to make sandwiches, she just stared as if I was speaking Greek, so asked why not? Its against our owners philosophy? This place is the bakers analogy to Seinfelds Soup Nazi. Stay away unless you enjoy insolence with your loaf. Owners bread philosophy, indeed. The whole crew needs manners training; its a service-oriented business.

Good but expensive. If you mainly walk around Huron Village and then occasionally muster the energy to go to Harvard Square... and a big trek is Central Square then you probably think its okay to pay twelve dollars for a veggie sandwich or nine fifty for avocado on toast... or four dollars for a shot of soup. Luckily youre surrounded by other people in an ambiance of peasant-chic who think money is for wasting. That being said... if burning cash keeps you warm inside- buy the eight dollar yogurt or the nearly twenty dollar salmon sandwich. That is sure to leave you still hungry and wondering why you didnt wait and buy some decent bacon at Formaggio.
