Darwin’s is three places in one.1) It is the place you want to go for coffee and a pastry or breakfast sandwich to sit alone and read or catch up on some work or catch up with some friends or colleagues.2) It is the must try sandwich shop. If you are local, you’ll be picking up lunch regularly. I used to stop here after the gym at night and pick up sandwich orders for myself and fellow teachers to eat at work the next day. There is a sandwich for every type of diner and more bread options that anyone really needs but it’s all so good.3) It is the little corner store and wine shop where you stop in for something to serve unexpected guests with a glass of wine, some cheese and crackers. Of a place to run to because you need some eggs, milk and a head of lettuce.

Sandwiches are great, service not so much. Was waiting around for 15 mins (standing outside the door) walked in to look at the readied orders sitting on the counter every 2-3 mins for my name.Nobody (out of 3 ppl) had the courtesy to ask the name on the order, while the order was waiting to be picked up on top of the oven to the back side. When I asked for the name and got the order, I said - seems like its been ready for a while - the response was yeah, we keep it warm for youIf they had asked for the name or noticed that someone was waiting looking around the front counter, would have not lost 15 mins.

Great service and sandwiches. It would probably make life easier for the employees to have some signage to say where you order food, since its separate from where you order drinks. But overall a good experience.

Generally a good coffee shop BUT if you call and they say that they have “indoor seating” what they mean is only for 30 minutes, and no laptops are allowed. The three stars are for the somewhat false advertisement which lead to an unnecessary trip.

This place is great! A cute little shop and coffee and breakfast place all rolled into one. They had some awesome drink options including a great tea that we tried (in the picture). Darwin’s is also such a great atmosphere whether you’re there for a chill breakfast or to hang and study or even to have a drink with a friend. It’s got all you need rolled into one cute spot!

Terrible Service and Mean Staff at Mt. Auburn St. Location. I placed an order at 11:15am, asked the cashier if I should wait inside or outside. She directed me to wait outside, and said they would call my name. I waited outside until 11:45am, came in, and asked if there was an issue. A different cashier handed me my order (from next to her), said it only took 5 minutes to make and that she was waiting for me, and that I should have waited inside for it. I told her I waited outside (like I was instructed) and waited for it to be announced, and she rolled her eyes and said: We dont have a speaker, we dont call outside. (In addition to this contradicting instructions, I had also seen them bring out and announce others food.) Breakfast was cold, I wasted 30 minutes, and wasted $10. All for attitude for just following their instructions. I will not return and will recommend that others avoid. Plenty of other good food in the area, and without the nastiness and time sink.

The Irving sandwich on a French baguette (see pic) is high recommended. Great space, music, coffee. However, the packaging of the sandwich we ordered was pretty greasy, which may not be always the case here, so you need to be careful about grabbing it or mixing it with other personal stuff.

Come for the sandwiches, but stay for the cookies!! We always lament Darwins being so far away from our neck of the woods, but unlike other places that start out strong, Darwins has not deteriorated in service or deliciousness. They also have a well curated collection of unusual wines. They offer delivery through a service and you can order ahead online. A small sit down area is available. Love this place!

Got the absolute worst sandwich here this morning. Ordered the mem drive (now Harvard) breakfast sandwich and it had no avocado on it, hard bread, hard egg, everything was dry and gross. So disappointed. Used to come here a lot for this sandwich but whoever made this at 10am on 9/2/18 needs to step things up. $13 for this sandwich was robbery. They also didnt cut it in half--I just cut it myself.

Delicious sandwiches and cookies! Each sandwich is named after a location: the Mount Auburn (my favorite: its an amazing chicken salad), the Cambridge, etc. They use top quality ingredients and artisanal bread to make some of the best renditions of popular sandwiches around. About as good as you can hope for as far as a sandwich is concerned. Great atmosphere and selection. Wait time can be about 10-15 minutes once you order if you go at rush hour though (after waiting about 10 minutes to place an order). If going around lunch, be sure to not be in a hurry.

I want to like this place but I usually walk away from this place dissatisfied. When I come here, its usually around lunch time and the wait is unbearably long. The servings are small and find myself in need of a second lunch. The saving grace is the food tastes great and I know Im getting a healthy meal in. I’m a barista, I get it, half-caff lattes are annoying to make especially when you’re pulling from two separate handles. But to visibly show that you’re annoyed with the request isn’t cool or professional. And when I asked if it would be easier if it weren’t half-caff, the person who was helping me told me that my drink would taste bad. As someone who works in the service industry, I understand that customer requests can be annoying, but I would never make someone feel bad about it in front of their face. This review is 3/5 stars because the latte didn’t taste bad.
