Best Veggie Danish in Cambridge. Recently dropped by to get their egg + veggie Danish, cinnamon roll, and chocolate hazelnut financier. All the pastries were amazing and they were definitely good as any other famous bakeries in Boston. The Danish was more like a croissant sandwich but presented as a Danish. Nevertheless, it actually made the experience much better: able to enjoy all the toppings in every bite. The cinnamon roll was nice and crunchy (may be too sweet with vanilla frosting on top), and they overall did a phenomenal job with everything.
We decided to try Cafe Beatrice on a nice Sunday morning. We did a few rounds to find parking. You can also choose to park in the validation garage near by if you can’t find parking. That was why it was 4 stars instead of 5 stars. Once parked, the rest of the 4 stars came along. We walked in the park towards the cafe direction. It was a nice little green path. We ordered 2 cups of Cortado and breakfast danish. It was all good, especially when you can sit outdoor and enjoy the sun.
Ive never had a Danish before and Im in love! How do they keep the egg so perfect like this?! I think this place beats any restaurant brekkie in CA. Boston is amazing. YOU have to try this before you leave Cambridge at least once. I wish I ate indoors but was on a run so did take out. Love love love definitely coming back
SO glad to have Cafe Beatrice in the neighborhood. Their coffee, breakfast sandwiches, and creative pastries are the best in the area- by far. The salads and sandwiches are always great as well. My husband and I are here several times a week, and have never had a bad experience. Highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area. You wont regret it!
I tried multiple times to give this place a shot and gain the positive experience that everyone else posts in their review. Its not meant to be. I have walked in at opening to a staff that made me feel as if I inconvenienced them by coming in. Maybe its too early for some and theyre not quite up, but I dont think that this is a sentiment that should be passed on to patrons. The lack of service paired with a lack of urgency is my biggest concern. I have patiently waited for a breakfast sandwich more than 20 minutes on numerous occasions. To try and be helpful and considerate to both the cafe and my need for a quick bite, I tried to order ahead. This resulted in a 45 minute wait, after walking in to pick up my order beyond the quoted time. I understand things can go wrong, but its also discouraging and hard to get behind a place when the staff doesnt address the delay or at the very least display a sense of urgency. As much as I wanted to be supportive of a small/local restaurant, I am glad that Tatte has opened a few steps away. I get my coffee and sandwich on time, and so far everyone has been welcoming. 2 stars because the person who usually makes the coffee orders in the morning has been pleasant and engaging.
The coffee: I tried the cold brew. There is no station to get sugar or other fixings for your drink (this is totally OK by the way, just an FYI so you know to ask the cashier beforehand!) The coffee however was average, and look, i’m not a penny pincher by any means, but the size of the LARGE cold brew was maybe 12 oz WITH ice. I see they’ve been inspired by Tatte, who also deserves backlash for their sizing. If i’m tired in the morning, the 12 oz won’t cut it, i would actually need two of these or a red eye to really wake up. Not to mention it was $5 (same pricing as their competitor and clear inspo, Tatte). The staff there isn’t great or particularly professional, at least not what it should be for these prices and the ambience they are trying to set here. The food: My partner and I both ordered breakfast sandwiches. These were really legit, I won’t lie. The melted cheese reminded me of raclette, and the everything bagel was fantastic. I would say my Bacon, Egg, and cheese was well worth the $8. I’m a little annoyed that my partner, who is vegetarian, didn’t have a lot of options to put on her sandwich, and was left with just egg and cheese. Honestly this would be okay if not for the fact that her sandwich was the same price as mine, and for what she got, definitely NOT worth $8. As a suggestion, it would make more sense to have a base price for the egg + cheese sandwich, and then an additional charge ($2-3) for the added meat, etc. Just didn’t feel right paying the same, but for explicitly less.Overall: I felt like the service I got was somewhat on par with Dunkin Donuts, and the space was a little cramped. The cold brew was around Starbucks level, and the sizing for their large was a small everywhere else on earth besides Tatte. The breakfast sandwiches were great, but the price structure could use some work to make it more fair for those wanting a more basic sandwich. This breakfast cost me $30 + tip and I wouldn’t consider paying over $20-22 for this. As someone who lives in Cambridge Crossing and really loves coffee (source: was a barista at a nicer spot for 5+ years), I can’t recommend Cafe Beatrice beyond getting food for takeaway. I will be coming back to try their pastries and compare to Tatte across the street!
Edit July 2021: sadly removing a star. Live nearby and go here all the time. In my opinion breakfast sandwiches are still great (but I found the quality becoming more inconsistent particularly during busy times were a few sandwiches have felt slapped together) but the lunch menu for the summer leaves a lot to be desired vs the previously excellent lunch menu. They removed the Cuban which was probably the best thing on menu and replaced with things that in some cases feel like they are imitating Flour Bakery, particular the roast beef with crunchy onions, which flour has had a version of for awhile. Sandwiches for lunch are premade sitting out on the counter, even at 10:30 in the AM on a recent visit. I would definitely prefer if the sandwiches were made to order and the ingredients were kept refrigerated and or sealed until ordered. Tatte just opened next-door and their sandwiches are a few bucks cheaper so hopefully this will spur some focus on more interesting menu items and made to order.
Great new spot & Superbly tasty foodWe’ve partook in their summer outdoor series a couple times as wellThe main reason this isn’t a 5 star review is pricing seems 10-15% more than needs be-A fried chicken lunch sandwich is $15 which is steep for a cafe lunch with nothing included- a possible addition of crisps or chips may soften that.It would be great to see more daily (affordable) lunch options available at this location which would make this a daily go-to vs a once-a-month-treatWill definitely return, and recommend!
Best value coffee I’ve had in a long while, sandwiches and cakes/biscuits are imaginatively delicious too. The staff are very helpful and responsive to customer requests and clearly enjoy what they do. To cap it all there’s plenty of (clean) indoor and outdoor space in which to enjoy it all.
Everything here is go way out of your way good. This place made me realize I had never had a good pastry before. 10/10
Café Beatrice needs to open earlier. At around 6:30 AM you start seeing people trying to open the front door only to find that it’s closed. Everyone prefers Beatrice over Tatte as it’s better coffee, better service, and better baked goods.
I can not wait to return here! I stopped by for a sweet and tea, and ended up getting a toffee chocolate chip cookie and the hibiscus tea. The cookie may have been my favorite chocolate chip cookie I have ever had - and I am pretty picky when it comes to sweets! It was moist, crisp on the edges, gooey in the center, the chocolate was melty and it was even more perfect with some flaky salt on top. The hibiscus tea was great too. On top of amazing food, the park area outside is incredibly peaceful. I will be back soon!
Decent coffee. The breakfast taco was bland and very edible. Prices are okay. Overall its an okay place, not the best in the vicinity.
Best breakfast! Looking forward to trying their lunch options- Breakfast sandwich and pastries are all amazing- Portions are large. For example they put so much smoked salmon in ours, which we really appreciated- The online order/take out experience was impeccable
I would give more than 5 stars if I could. I don’t know what kind of sorcery goes into their pastries. Honestly just go in and look at whatever they have available and pick whatever calls to you, it will definitely be VERY good. I’ve tried the sticky bun, everything danish, chocolate thimble, maple kouign aman and can recommend every single one of them. The cuban panini and the egg sandwiches are also very very delicious. Also definitely worth paying the extra dollar for the homemade chips. I will probably be coming here every day.
Great coffee, nice seating and one of the nicest breakfast sandwiches! Don’t even get me started on how much I LOVE their puffs.
Fantastic! The Cuban was bright and flavorful, and the Yuzu-Strawberry Brioche was delicious. I dont remember the iced latte, which means it wasnt particularly noteworthy, but I will definitely be returning.
I was really hyped about the great reviews, but my experience here didnt live up. I came in just before the lunch rush on a Tuesday. The kouign amann tasted like it was delicious yesterday, and the bread on the chicken sandwich was stale. Similarly, Im not sure what was going on with the fritters that came with the zucchini sandwich - they were soggy and unmelted on the inside. The iced mocha was just all right. They have nice things on the menu and given all the good reviews, I believe that theyre often executed well. But the quality and freshness of the ingredients definitely put a damper on my visit.
Creative, rotating supply of baked goods mixed in with staple breakfast fare. The egg sandwiches are huge and to die for. The coffee is also well above average, their normal drip coffee consistently delicious, a versatile medium roast with nutty and fruity notes. The atmosphere is also very relaxed.
Excellent sandwiches! Lunch sure to satisfy, pastry need more work. Great Ideas are there, skill is there, taste is not.. not consistent, not yet anyway.
Very good breakfast sandwiches. I got the Ruben breakfast sandwich (pastrami, Swiss, thousand island) and it was great. Baked goods were great as well.
Very tasty food, friendly staff and Beautiful and comfortable space!🚀
This place is awesome, although monday is probably the weirdest choice of day for a cafe to be closed
Its become my Friday afternoon delight to get a sando, a pastry, and a mocha from here. Recommend any sando, but for the broccoli melt or roasted pumpkin grilled cheese and youre not vegetarian, add bacon! For pastries, can never go wrong with the creme brulee nor the fruit brioche! The rueben danish too! Taste as good as they look!
Just a lovely selection of French-inspired breakfast munchies and coffees with an idyllic urban-planning-on-overdrive city park setting.
Breakfast sandwich is delicious - the brioche is yummmm
Killer pastry and savory options in an exciting new area. The bagel with charred onion cream cheese was delicious and the cortado was the best I’ve had in recent memory. Large covered patio area for outdoor seating. Excited to come back!
Friendly staff, very clean and modern. Just loud construction around the cafe
Best in the city for pastries.
This was easily one of the best lunches Ive ever had. The cubano was insane. The pulled pork and the bread was perfect. We also got the broccoli cheddar melt which was heavenly. Great, fast service and the pastries are also great. Cant say enough good things!
Pastries are incredible.Sandwiches are incredible.Coffee is good.Chai is mediocre, not as strong a flavor as I would like.
Delicious sandwiches, plenty of space to dine outside.
Really fabulous pastries here, perfect almond bun thing, fruit bun and an awesome kouign amann. Our lattes were great too! The building and space is absolutely beautiful (and you do pay for it a bit - but it is really worth it). Really looking forward to coming back to try everything else.Update: we’ve been back many times since, always perfect and everything we’ve tried has met our first impression or been even better.
Food, coffee, pastry… all is great!
Beautiful building, good coffee and healthy breakfast options
Food is delicious but they charge $5 for a tiny iced coffee, which is absurd. Hoping they adjust pricing to align with the actual product offered.
So many options, online orderingDef reccommended the reuben crossiant.
Beautiful, delicate decor and delicious pastries and coffee. Cinnamon roll is to die for!
Amazing pastries and a lovely bright, open space
Great and reasonably priced desserts.
Cautiously optimistic that this place will become a new favourite! Only had one visit but everything was really good - bagel sandwiches, pastry and coffee all tasted fresh at midday.Specific call out for the pastry: Kouign-amann is generously sized and very well baked - dare I say it’s much better than Tatte’s version?!Will be back soon.
Excellent food. The breakfast sandwich is top notch.
We ordered breakfast for our staffs first day in our new offices at Cambridge CX - the order was ready when expected and the food items were very good !!The quality and presentation were great - Beatrice’s will be our go to- can’t wait for the Lexington to open soon !!
Great cold brew (Strong and smooth). Pastries are tasty and the grilled cheese was so so good!
One of those $3 coffee / $12 sandwich places where everything tastes phenomenal but you wince every time you look at the receipt.
The Cuban sandwich and an espresso hit the spot for lunch. And the almond crunch bun was great afterwards.
Weve been to Beatrice twice now and its been honestly meh. To disclaim, weve only tried the breakfast menu so far:The first thing we tried here were egg sandwiches. I got the rapini/mushroom/muenster and my husband got the pastrami salmon/tomato/avocado. The rolls for the sandwiches are really great, but they werent sliced well so I had a huge issue with my sandwich falling apart. Both sandwiches were honestly sort of bland and could really have benefitted from a little salt+pepper at the least. The vegetables on mine were still really watery and the whole thing was sliding and falling apart; it was pretty unenjoyable to eat. The salmon one was fine, but you can get a far better one at Mamelahs for a similar price. Another issue was that we both felt the sandwiches were too large (they are very generously-sized) as we were bored of eating them about 2/3rds of the way through. For the money, its a lot of sandwich, but Id much rather have a smaller sandwich that has enjoyable and well-balanced flavors. Thats not to say these sandwiches were bad, they were just a little disappointing. We also got the hazelnut sticky bun and while we both enjoyed its components, we wouldnt call it a bun. The pastry is this awesome flaky, crispy pastry, and the hazelnut caramel is great, but for me they didnt really go together. The caramel topping would have been better on a fluffy risen dough, and that flaky pastry (seriously an awesome flake) would have done really well with a berry jam and maybe some kind of cheese custard? But thats me.Anyway, we did decide to try Beatrice again since they just opened and we live right there. This time we got a bagel and the breakfast brioche and a kouign Aman. The bagel is locally made, so I presume they didnt make it (which is fine). Since the have an option to have it not toasted, but no option for toasted, I assumed it came toasted by default. It did not. The charred onion cream cheese was very good, not too heavy on the onion, just enough to give it a really enjoyable flavor. The breakfast brioche was again, just okay. The tomato jam was WAY too sweet and unbalanced. The pastry itself was well done. The egg was a little weird, and seemed almost underdone even for a jammy egg.The kouign aman is really great. Whoever is making the actual pastries at Beatrice is pretty on-point, but weve been put off by the flavor pairings and other cooking being done.Anyway, will we go there again? Probably for a pastry. But if I didnt live around CX, I wouldnt go out of my way to get them.
Excellent cubano and pizza.
Excellent sandwiches.
The everything danish is just delicious, perfectly balanced flavours!
The pastries are great but I wasnt impressed with the sandwiches..the pumpkin grilled cheese was cold and barely had any cheese, the cubano was also cold.
Amazing food and a beautiful location
Great unique food!
Fantastic coffee and cute spot!
Amazing pastries and beautiful space!
Very friendly staff!
