Best source for old maps. I have ordered many and been beyond pleased.
I had a great experience here! My boyfriend and I visited WardMaps with the intention of buying a fairly specific map. We wanted a large map of Newton, Massachusetts. One that included our street. Since our street is on the edge of the city limits this proved a bit difficult. The young lady working (unfortunately I forget her name!) was so helpful and informative. Since we couldnt find what we were looking for on display, she showed us their online database. She explained how the database works and what we should search for. They have a large monitor set up in the shop so we were able to do the online search together and with her guidance. She gave us time alone and checked back in on us which was appreciated. In the end we found exactly what we were looking for! We ordered the map to be framed by WardMaps (framing was reasonably priced!) and were told it would be ready within a couple of weeks. We now have the map and its framed and hanging on our living room wall! WardMaps is a gem!
I dont live anywhere near WardMaps, but the folks there were able to help me via email to find an old map of Providence RI that I had been digging around for in order to give as a gift to my fiancé. They were so patient and helpful, and the map made for such a meaningful and personal gift. The folks at WardMaps are knowledgeable and kind and I highly recommend them!
I ran across WardMaps when looking for an 1890s map of my town for a local history project that I was working on. I found a suitable map on WardMaps website and was quite surprised and pleased to see that several sizes were available at reasonable prices (I do realize that these are reproductions). I ordered and in less than a week the map was delivered. Wow. The quality of the map was fantastic. Beautifully printed on sturdy card, totally ready for framing. I was also impressed by the sturdy envelope it was shipped in. Nearly unbendable, it ensured my map arrived in excellent condition. I really do feel that what I received was a great value and I do look forward to doing business with these folks again. Super job!!!
What a great little gem. Was able to find several great, old maps that we were looking for and had fun spending several hours just looking at many other of the older maps from not just the Boston area but around the world.
A really cool place! Pretty small shop, but I could easily browse for a while looking at old maps and new renditions of tons of places in Boston and surrounding areas. Have bought a number of things to decorate my walls here.
I am not good at buying gifts for people. The great thing about Ward Maps is that they have fun items that no one else has.Even better, though, and no one else here has mentioned this, is that they can make customized products (which truly no one else has). On 2 occasions I ordered custom journals, with a section of a historic map (of significance to the individual) on the cover of the journal. In both cases, the person who received the gift was overjoyed with it. Ive never gotten that kind of reaction from any other gift. They take custom orders on the Web (and, indeed, they are better at publicizing this great service on their Web site than in the retail store), but I found it helpful to go into the store to get help from the staff with the customization.I also got a gift for myself, a custom coffee mug, using a digital image that I supplied. Like the people who received the custom items as gifts, I, too, was overjoyed with the result. The custom journals and coffee mugs are surprisingly inexpensive, too, and it only takes them about a week to make them.
A huge range of maps in all price ranges, plus a great collection of T memorabilia. Prices are more than fair
Great place for vintage maps and transit history. You can find a lot of unique items in this store.
Awesome little store
WardMaps is a very small, unique and niche store which, as you might have guessed it by its name sells maps. And various other street and MBTA memorabilia as well. From mugs, magnets and t-shirts to small and larger maps, theyll have you covered and they can also custom-print specific maps from their online (and offline) databases as well which can make for some very unique and interesting presents. The friendly and helpful staff will assist you as you geek out and can also answer any of your questions as well as give you quotes for miscellaneous jobs that they can provide. All in all, Ive had good experiences there and love to walk and peruse their selection and geek out.As far as the location and convenience, the store is located right on Massachusetts avenue, outside of Porter Square and almost in between Porter and Harvard. Its a pretty convenient location however finding parking in the area can be tricky.
Wonderful, friendly little store with great gifts and fascinating maps. I went a few times and was made completely welcome, both alone and after partnering with a service animal -- not the hostile reception small stores often have to a service animal (one kind word about her manners and skill in navigating the aisles with me, much appreciated as I had been knocking into things instead of the dog and they chose to focus on her grace instead of my clumsiness!). The shop itself is a lot of fun, good conversation with the owner or employees if you want but never pushy, happy to let you just browse.Great maps, fun MBTA tchotchkes (I now have two T station magnets), great selection, wonderful, well-informed, helpful, top-notch staff. Highly recommend stopping in if youre in the area; its a really fun place to browse even if you end up not buying something that day.
Awesome store, really interesting items for sale.
I have purchased many items from Wards for both gifts and for myself. I have had many prints framed that I purchased from Wards as well as prints i have purchased elsewhere. They have always done a great job with the matting and framing, right down to the wrapping of the finished product. I highly recommend this local biz.
I love this place! It has an impressive selection of fun MBTA merchandise, plus untold numbers of vintage maps, postcards and other ephemera. Its definetely worth stopping in!
Ward Maps has something for everyone. Gifts for kids and adults who love transit, MBTA signs, maps, magnets, and ephemera. Maps of all kinds.
Great collection of local and global historic maps. Owner is very helpful and knowledgeable.
Fun spot to find vintage maps and ephemera. They have a huge selection of reproduction and true vintage maps and other interesting items of history.
Amazing maps collection. I bought 3 maps form this place.
Good service but very small selection.
Every map and transportation enthusiasts dream store. This cute little shop tucked away right outside Porter Sq. has vintage and modern maps of Boston, Cambridge and most cities and towns in the greater Boston area. There is a fair amount of NYC themed items as well. In addition to city maps, they have a vast amount of customizable gifts; coasters, magnets, mouse pads, mugs, you name it.A dear friend was moving away and as a parting gift I compiled a set of coasters with what I considered City Highlights. They have a good amount in the store or you can select from hundreds online. The guy in the store was very helpful with helping me place the order. They ended up being a big hit!
Wonderful niche shop - I am obsessed with maps, transit, and urban history, and this store has it all. WardMaps also doubles as the MBTA gift shop, and God knows while the T has caused so much anxiety, frustration, and partial deafness, its also so woven into our identity as Bostonians/Cantabrigians/etc. Now that Im finally leaving Boston, Ill finally have space to display the memorabilia you can find in this shop! I had a lovely chat with the store owner about historical transit proposals while browsing. Definitely worth a visit!
One of my favorite places ever!! Very unique stuff.
For a truly special gift, you cant go wrong with Ward Maps. Their selection is impressive and the pricing is fair.

WardMaps LLC is a store full of maps of all kinds. Here you can find and buy an old vintage maps of your old Somerville neighborhood (including who owned the property in the early 1900s). Unearth old posters and postcards to frame or put to use in your next homemade art project. WardMaps also has city or public transportation themed coffee mugs, coasters, t-shirts and mousepads. For modern mapophiles, I recommend the shops series of ORK Posters which show the names of city neighborhoods or towns on a map — in the shape of the city. At around $32, these stylish posters make great gifts for transplants who wants honor their new city, or for those who want to remember where theyre came from, whether that be Portland, NYC or San Francisco.
