Repair to the vehicle was significant, and John provided worthwhile alternative repair options. The option agreed upon was slightly more expensive than the minimum, but added significantly greater value to the vehicles worth. Most satisfied with the quality of work.

When I dropped off my car at 8:40 AM on 7/30/2021, I didnt receive a call about diagnosis until 2:18 PM about my check engine light diagnosis. The mechanic was way to slow to diagnose my car. When he called me on the phone, he recommended the following services: remove cylinder head for valve job, replace cylinder head gasket, cylinder heat bolts, spark plugs & thermostat, change engine oil and filter and refile engine coolant all for $3690. That is super expensive. Also, he said this repair would take 3 -4 business days, which is way too long for me. Thus, I had to decline this repair. If anyone has major engine issues, I dont recommend this place.

Great service, friendly staff, and affordable rates. Their personalized service is the best in county. I was preparing to drive cross-country and needed several preventative maintenance procedures done. Camarillo independent automotive performed it at half the price the dealership quoted me for and got my car operating at full capacity with warranties. They ensured that my car remained reliable for the 2,500 mile test. They also offered shuttle service while I waited.

Came in with my car overheating after changing out the water pump and thermostat. They got it fixed within 24 hours. Turns out I’m a moron and put my thermostat in backwards. Simple fix. They did the job and didn’t kill me in price. Great customer service. I’ll be going here from now on and would recommend these guys to anyone.

Difficult review to write. Lots of good things. All staff I met were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I had emergency service done and it was done quickly and at a fair price. Overall the work was good, but there was an error in my service that forced me to stop and do my own repair and a service was recommended for a part that doesnt exist on my vehicle. They were willing (actually eager) to correct problems, but since I was on the road that didnt work out. I would say that I would recommend this shop over most others I have tried, but they again demonstrated why I do most my own work. I make mistakes too but the dont cost $50-$100 dollars in labor charges.

We first used this place when we first moved to CA and needed smog checks. Then, we discovered that the people who work there are great diagnosticians and mechanics. We used to go to the VW dealer, but I felt the dealer ripped us off of thousands of dollars. CIAR is where I will be going from now on for any car problem! They fix it right and are very reasonably priced. They drove us home when we found out we had to leave our car there until parts arrived. Very nice people. I feel lucky that I have found a trustworthy and reasonably priced auto mechanic!

Im new(er) to the area and was referred to Camarillo Independent by several locals, not to mention Enterprise Rent-a-car. They performed a regular service on my Nissan with 170,000 miles, recommended an air filter change and another $150 service that had not been done since new. Very reasonable and honest along with prompt and friendly follow-through.

Have been going to Camarillo Independent several years for my yearly checkup. Would not even think of going anywhere else! I have a 13 year old 2005 Ford Explorer Hybrid and they have taken care of it as if it was their own car. Their charges are most reasonable and their honesty beyond reproach!

There is a business model decision that one must make when one services products. You can either fix only what is wrong, even though other things in the same area are aging. Or you can replace all of the potential failures even though they dont need it right now. Low-end shops do the first and high-end shops do the second. There is usually a middle ground which should be explained to the customer for his/her decision. Camarillo is not particularly good at this.At Camarillo they look for everything that may (or soon may) need to be replaced. Their idea is to bring the vehicle as close to new as possible. In this way they also make the most money, but for people who fear car breakdowns and can afford it, its the right thing to do.From what I could perceive by listening, talking and watching, the owner appears burned out. He seems to have a nice lifestyle, but seems tired of his business and wants to maximize the profit on every job. OK. One just has to understand the difference in business philosophies. They clearly have a successful business using this model.We brought in two vehicles. The prices were very high and we ended up at a different shop because I am lower on money than fear.

I dont normally write reviews and dont always trust sites like this where it is so easy for people to write really bad or really good reviews. I am writing it because I see so many bad reviews that I dont agree with.I started coming to Camarillo independent a few years ago when I got tired of the Toyota dealership telling me things I did not agree with. I have brought two Corollas, a Plymouth Neon and a Toyota Tacoma to the shop and have not been displeased with their work. Is the place posh? Of course not, why would I want that? Did they do the work I asked them to? Yes. Did they try to sell me other things I didnt bring the vehicle in for...well, yes, but that is part of their job. I dont know that much about autos, but I am not entirely stupid about them either. I was told the Neon needed $2000 dollars of work to make a car worth $1000. Did I believe that...Yes. I just got rid of the car. I bought a used Tacoma truck and had the Toyota dealership check it out (expensive, but for the first time...eeeh). The truck was fine, but did seem to handle oddly sometimes. For the next service I brought it to Camarillo Independent. One of the things they pointed out is that I was driving on three different sizes of tires!!! I probably would have bought the tires elsewhere, but I was so grateful, I purchased the tires from them.All in all, I am pleased with the service I have gotten from them.*************************************************************************************************OK, two years later and I am still coming here. I still dont believe the negative reviews I see here. Is this the cheapest auto repair around here...no, you can get cheap work done badly in many places. Not a huge fan of this place. Went in with a couple issues. Mainly codes stored in my pcm. I have an app and obd2 monitor but was still new to it and hadnt quite figured it out yet. They told me its $110 for diagnosis. Kept it all day, didnt tell me they wanted it overnight. They werent gonna tell me, told me they were gonna call the next morning. Luckily I called 45 mins before they closed. Ended up telling me I had a couple bad sensors and my cats were clogged. Ended up doing alot more research. Completed my drive cycle, got all the codes cleared, looked at everything they told me was bad. All the indications were good once I figured my app out. I had zero issues, just needed a drive cycle. But if I wouldve let them talk into repairs they wanted 500 for the sensors and 2000 for cats. When all I needed was my pcm reset and drive for 30mins. These guys are money hungry, all I wanted to do was pass smog lol.

I have been using Camarillo Independent since 1992 for both of my cars.They have a shuttle that takes me home and comes back to pick me up. Thats a great service.They call me to give me an estimate and they also notify me if they found something else that is not functioning properly or has very little time left.It is the best shop I have found in West Ventura.

DONT. Do not go here. They are bad news. They will suggest expensive, unnecessary repair jobs, and repairs that cost way more than just replacing a major part. They have suggested 1,000.00+ repairs that other shops have deemed unnecessary. They did a head gasket repair inadequately. All the work was 2,200. I was not satisfied with the meager parts they showed that had been replaced. Another mechanic told me that the head gasket repair had been incomplete. They sealed the head gasket only, then they asked me to come back after 1,000 miles, probably knowing that the lower seals would begin to leak oil because of pressure upon them since the upper seals were replaced. So, when I came back when that happened they said I needed another similarly priced repair. The other mechanic said that it would have been much cheaper to put another engine in, which would have had many fewer miles on it.Just as bad is their customer service. Should you have a complaint that you take to them, and you ask them to explain the procedure, they will use intimidation tactics. Both of the main guys there, John and Brett, are each over 64 and 300 lbs and they will use this to their advantage. John gets louder and louder as you ask him questions about the repairs. I was going to agree with him and come back to have the work done the next day, but as he walked away, he shot a derogatory comment about me to another male employee. I immediately told the pleasant customer service rep that I could not in good conscience patronize such a business, and keep my self-respect.Sure the shop looks clean and is in a nice part of town, but those two need a both an attitude adjustment and customer service overhaul.Or total replacement.

Having been a customer for the past ten years, my loyalty has truly been earned. I have been treated courteously and professionally through all aspects of the repair/maintenance process. The open communication and progress updates were especially appreciated. I knew that my Acura and Toyota were in good hands..... but the real challenge was when I surprised them with my 1974 Datsun 260z (a beast that caused other mechanics to run in terror!!).. Surprisingly, they welcomed the challenge without hesitation and the Z (which had not run in 20 years) is now back on the street...(THANKS ANDREW!!!!).I heartily recommend Camarillo Independent for you automotive needs. Sara(the girl who helped me when I droped my car off) is the most helpful and professional person. She called me about 15 minutes after I left my car to let me know that they were going to start working on it and when it would be finished. If I could give them 10 stars I would. I had a terrible experience with this shop. They promised me my car back by Friday afternoon but did not deliver. They kept delaying the completion date/time but never gave me the courtesy of a call to give me an update on their progress. I always had to call them after they failed to make their stated completion time. When I did have to call, I didn’t appreciate the tone of voice that I was given. The “we’ll call you” attitude didn’t set well with me at all. I explained to them that my son had to get back home and needed the car ASAP. But rather than work with us and complete the job Saturday, they said that they didnt like to let other mechanics complete someone else’s job. Fine for them, but three days of work were missed because of their refusal to make adjustments in the spirit of customer service. They told me that the plugs, cap and rotor were “completely shot” but they had been replaced within the last couple thousand miles. I don’t think that was anything more than an attempt to pump up their sales. How could I trust what say when they do things like that? To top it off, when I did come in to pick up the car I learned that they dont include sales tax in their estimates. So the quote they give over the phone is less than the amount you owe when you pick up the car! This is very deceptive in my mind. No reputable company does this - none. I felt very deceived throughout the entire process. I wont be back.

We have been going to Camarillo Independent Honda for over 25 years. Bret has always been patient explaining things, (never belittling me as being uninformed in auto mechanics) and, in the past, when work was more than I could afford at the time, was agreeable to holding off on something later. (everyone was hurting in the recession and with 4 kids, we have alot of cars) Work was always done the same day unless a special part was not readily available. Maybe two or three times over the 25+ years have I taken a car back that something was not fixed or attached right and they have fixed it for no charge or did not charge me for a replacement part, or gave me a discount. . They are through in their assesment of things rhat need repair and I have found that if you say it is not necessary, you end up repairing it 3 months down the line. So its up to you if you want preventive maintenance or waiting and getting it fixed when you really need the car.

I wish I would have read the Yelp reviews before I took my vehicle to this shop. DO NOT GO HERE! I not only had horrible customer service from the shop manager, John, but I had the owner, Brett, call me and essentially tell me that his shop is only there to make money and not help the customer.I dropped off my vehicle to get an O2 sensor replaced and was quoted about $100 to do so, even though it shouldnt have taken more than a few minutes to complete (in normal circumstances). I was ok paying for it because I didnt have the right tool and desperately needed to use my vehicle and get it smoggedA few hours later, I received a call from John, the shop manager, stating that my vehicle cannot be repaired without paying an additional $800 because they would need to spend an additional 7 hours on the vehicle. I could not afford that kind of money right now and told John that I would pick it up.I attempted to pick up the vehicle and was required to pay the full amount of the repair, $90, even though there was NOTHING completed. I understand that the mechanic spent some time trying to figure out how to replace the O2 sensor but that seems to be my problem. Because I did not receive anything by bringing the vehicle to the shop, I asked for at least a discount because I know that the mechanic “tried” to make the repair. John’s solution to my problem is offering me a discount using AAA. It felt like a slap to the face... He tells me that when I bring it in to get repaired for $800 he will credit me the money I already spent. Why would I want to take a chance on them spending 7 hours on my vehicle and have them say that it is going to cost me $1600?I receive an email survey shortly after the transaction and type in my feelings. A couple days later, I received a call from Brett, the owner, to discuss the work. Instead of actually listen to me, he told me why the shop could not complete the repair and why he deserved my money. He asked me if I felt that his employee should not get paid for the work he performed and then he asked me if I would go back to his shop to show me why they couldn’t perform the repair. I already understood why they couldn’t do the repair but I did not understand why he felt that the business should still get paid for the work (there was none). To make things even better, he asks me if I knew so much about the repair, why didn’t I just do it myself. I respond by stating that I would have if I had the proper equipment such as a lift and air tools and he then interrupts with “that is the reason why you gave us the money.”
