These guys dont just specialize in in Subaru, they specialize in LOVE. It took me 5 years to take my Forester back to this shop, because I do a lot of my own work. I went in to get diagnostics on my car after killing in up in the mountains. I got a lot of bad news, but I had the honest truth when I left. I had the car towed in, and drove it home with piece of mind. My bad news was east coast weather made my repairs on the brink of imposable. But they told me. I love these guys! I took my 06 Subaru outback to Autoworx after numerous attempts to fix my problems to no avail. Took it to other mechanics as well and they could not diagnose the issues. Had engine work done on older Forester a while back. Was slightly less expensive than quotes, and has been solid. Just took it in for brake concerns (noise) that cleared before the appointment. They did not try to charge for unneeded work, and let me know brakes are in good shape. Trust them with my Subarus.

The brush guard on my car came undone on a Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. Alternative was busy with other customers, especially since it was a short holiday week. Because the repair to my car was minor, and didnt require a lot of time to fix, I was able to get my brush guard reattached the same day. The folks could have told me to wait a day or so due to how busy it was, but worked me in and were professional and courteous about it. If I had another issue with my car, I have the faith and confidence to go back knowing that Alternative will do an honest job.

I went to Alternative Autoworx because the Subuaru dealer in Boulder told me that I needed new front struts for $1100. So I called AA to get a second opinion - not only did they come in WAY lower, but after they took a look at my car, they assured that I actually DIDNT need new struts on my Subaru! What an honest company!! I will recommend them high and low for being so honest and trustworthy.

I had a1998 Subaru Outback that Joel worked on for many years. I just bought another Outback and am so happy that I can once again have Alternative Autoworx work on my car! This is a very trustworthy outfit, and they do excellent work.

My wife and I have been customers of Alternative Autoworx since 2015, for both our Subarus. I initially came across Alternative Autoworx when I took my vehicle to a local dealership, to fix a loud noise out of one of the front wheels. Despite the obvious loud high-pitched noise, the dealership tech dismissed me, stating the vehicle had no issue. When I brought my vehicle into Alternative Autoworx, it took Joel all but a minute of a ride-along to diagnose my front wheel bearings had needed replacement. As another recent example, we had a different shop, much closer to our home and more convenient, perform routine maintenance on one of our Subarus. The other shop failed to properly align the engine on one of the mounts after several attempts, leaving us bringing the vehicle to Alternative Autoworx to correctly fix the problem once and for all. Alternative Autoworx and its techs are very capable and are true specialists in Subaru vehicles. They do not skim on their work and parts and advise customers as to the best approach to facilitate greatest longevity for affected components, leaving your vehicle out of their shop to spend more time on the road. Based on our experience, we sincerely appreciate Alternative Autoworx staff and their craft and would recommend this shop to anyone, looking to fix or service their Subaru.

The crew at Alternative Autoworx have been taking great care of my Subaru Legacy maintenance and repair needs for years. We were on our way to the mountains for a Thanksgiving holiday years ago (literally end of day on Wednesday) and one of my tires was leaking and need air multiple times that week. Apparently, I hit something and somehow the wheel was bent and lost a strong seal. The Sub dealership looked - said it was not repairable, it would take days to get a pricey new wheel in with the holiday. I randomly called Subaru places with great reviews and Joel (owner) told me to bring it in for them to look. They fixed it in minutes (never had another issue with the wheel), didnt charge me anything and sent us off to enjoy our family time. Excellent service, Customer Service, improving your existing Subaru and pricing reduced compared to Dealer Pricing with better parts in some cases. I have a 2004 Subaru 2004 Legacy Wagon they improved for another 100,000 miles. Go there first if you want, but compare here to be impressed.

My first interaction with Alternative was a few months ago when they diagnosed a problem with my wheel bearings when Mike Shaw wanted to replace my transmission! This most recent taillight bulb replacement was handled in fine fashion at a great price. I will always use Alternative, so glad I found them. (This was written last November, dont know why it wasnt posted then).

I went to the Dealer and was shocked of the price they gave me on what I had to have done. Alternative Autoworx prices were a lot better so I had some other things taken care of, the mechanic explained everything that was done, the service was so much more personable and was done in a very reasonable amount of time. They will be taken care of my Subaru for a long time.

Had an oil leak with my car and had it towed to Joels shop. They took care of everything and showed me exactly what had happened. Honest and friendly guys that do great work. I will definitely bring my car here for future repairs!

I previously rated these guys at two stars, and had to change it.Originally I went in for a clutch replacement on a manual transmission. After the made the repairs I started having issues shifting (it would get stuck in first gear and wouldnt go into second gear with out double/triple clutching). I brought it back to them, they flushed the transmission and sent me on my way. That didnt fix the problem but I decided to give up and didnt really push it farther.A few months later it really started bothering me. I brought the car back to them and they pulled out all of the stops to fix it. They did a bunch of work on the transmission without charging me labor (replaced a few syncros and a shift fork); however, I dont think anything in the transmission was an obvious culprit. They also replaced the hose going to slave cylinder. In hindsight it was probably the hose more than anything, and all of the transmission work was potentially unnecessary.In the end they worked with me and got the car fixed. My only complaint is that it took a while, but I dont think there is much they could have done better or different.

If you have a Subaru that needs repairs done, take it to Alternative Autoworx. Joel and his team are honest, good, trustworthy people. You won’t find a better shop anywhere.

Having had some shady service experiences before, especially with the BIG places, I sought out an independent shop for my new 2006 Subaru Outback. My biggest concern was whether or not the head gaskets had been changed. I read of one bad experience (elsewhere in the country) where a person was told their head gaskets were changed, but in fact, were not. Im always worried that places will give you a laundry list of things you need done but that dont really need done. The folks at Alternative Autoworx scored some big points with me when the 1) were exceptionally helpful on the spot 2) verified that my head gaskets had not only been changed, but were high-quality and that whoever did the work was top notch and 3) gave me an itemized list of high-to-low priority fixes (some good to do now, some for down the road). I REALLY appreciated being told this, and not that everything HAD to be replaced then and there, or it would all be doom. So grateful for the honesty! Ill keep taking the SuperRuby there. Joel, Alexander, Jesse - good people! Oh, and I love a shop where the owner is actually on site. I think thats always a good sign of a good local business, and I hear he takes good care of his staff.

Ive been patronizing Alternative Autoworx for many years. Joel (and his two other mechanics) keep my commuter Subaru running beautifully. Im up to 236,000 miles now on the original engine and trans, and many thanks go to Joel and his team. You will not find a mechanic who knows more about a Subaru than Joel.Originally I serviced my car at a local dealership until I was charged an exorbitant amount that did not fix the problem, and was assured I could bring it in again and they would credit me 15% of the previous repair charge. I then found Alternative Autoworx. I have never been disappointed by the explanations, reasonable charges, and expertise at this shop. Next car will still be a Subaru and it will still come to this mechanic.

This shop does specialize in Subarus, but I took them my Mazda because of a crazy noise I kept hearing. Turns out I needed a wheel bearing. Jesse went above and beyond in finding a genuine Mazda part and fixing my car for good price! The mechanics were very knowledgable, and when they initially took a look at my car, they chose to show me what was broken and explain to me in detail what the broken part meant. Most shops Ive been to just give me a list without explaining anything. I cant stress how awesome this crew has been in helping me out especially since they went out of their way to help with a car that isnt their specialty.

I just moved to the area and was lucky enough to find Alternative Autoworx right away. Im always nervous taking my WRX to new places specially for clutch problems but they made it pleasant and affordable. I had my car back the next day running like new.

Cant say enough good about these guys. For free, they checked out my leaking head gasket (too common on Subarus) and watched it over the next 1-1/2 years until it was bad enough to fix. How many shops do free evaluations and then turn down business? They were recommended by several friends who own Subarus. They even have some loaner cars to share under some circumstances.

Several years ago I found Alternative Autoworx in a google search. A call to them sounded like they knew their business and what I needed done might cost me less than where I had been going. It turns out both is true. These guys know Subarus! They will tell you everything that is wrong, and will let you know what should absolutely be done. They explain the whys and what ifs of any problems with your vehicle. They use top quality parts so you dont come back in a few years with the same thing broken again. They will also give you suggestions of what to try to see if that will possibly resolve a problem. And of course come back if it doesnt and they will take care of you. They are very reasonably priced in their repairs. I once spoke with a parts man at a Subaru dealer, who they often order parts from, and he said Joel really knows Subarus. He had high praise for Joel and his crew. I highly recommend them.

Joel is very nice and genuinely wants to help you get out of there without losing your shirt. I had a difficult problem to diagnose because the problem wasnt always happening and he and his crew were patient and very helpful.

I recently moved from TX and as a result encountered a severe oil leak. After reviewing various local independent mechanic shops, Alternative seemed to have great reviews and had a high rating with the Better Business Bureau. I took my Acura into the shop for repairs, but they indicated that they specialize in Subaru repairs. However, they transferred my car to another reputable shop that completed the repairs for an extremely reasonable price. They could have easily denied helping me out, but they went the extra mile in making sure I was taken care of. Shortly afterwards, I purchased a used Subaru Forester from them that had a new engine, timing belt, gaskets, etc. for a very reasonable price: with a 1 year warranty. They even facilitated the sale of my of my Acura! I plan on continuing utilizing them as my prime mechanic solution since they have expert technicians that can continue to service my Subaru. Dont go to a Subaru dealership (unless you want to get ripped off) - - I strongly encourage you to utilize their services. Jesse (administrator) and Joel (owner) have been a complete pleasure to work with.

We have a 2008 Suburu Tribeca. Jesse, Joel, and their team of mechanics have taken care of things that break down on an older car, e.g., a master window switch, head lights, fog lights, as well as regular maintenance. These guys are honest, trustworthy and always take care of any problems very quickly. They are a lot less expensive than taking our car to a dealership. If you own a Suburu, we would highly recommend that you give Alternative Autoworx a try. They have told us that they will be expanding their service, to Toyota, I think, when they move into their new shop near Kohls on 120th Avenue and Sheridan.
