The clothes are cute, however they are not size inclusive here at all. The fat shaming comments the owner posted on Facebook two years ago further support that. You would think after that and all the backlash given, she would make an effort to provide cute clothing options for all bodies. Her lack of action further demonstrates her views and morals, and for that, I will never shop here again.
I stopped in at j.ella today in search of a new outfit for upcoming family pictures. I had SUCH a wonderful experience! The staff was so welcoming and helpful. Haley assisted me as I tried on dozens of tops, jeans, accessories, and was extremely patient and sweet. Just wanted to say thank you for the experience! Cant wait to go back in soon!
One of my all time favorite boutiques! Every time I walk into the store I am not only in love with all the clothes, but the employees are so kind and helpful. Also, the owner Jael is someone who I admire so much! She is not only an amazing business owner but an amazing mama to her kids! One of the sweetest person! I can’t say enough about this boutique! 😍

Unfortunately, I stopped shopping at this establishment recently because the owner does not care about helping to stop the spread of COVID. She doesnt encourage her associated to wear masks. The times I went into the store, no one was wearing them and they were not socially distancing. She doesnt follow local government guidelines and require either masks or social distancing while in the store. She has clearly allowed her own personal politics to influence the safety of her business and those that would like to shop there. She believes wearing a mask hurts business, when, in reality I dont shop locally where they arent required because I dont feel safe. She has that backwards too. I REALLY LIKE HER MERCHANDISE THOUGH, so, I tried to shop online only to find out that nothing I wanted was in stock. Which was the nail in the coffin for me.

BUYER BEWARE!!! The clothes at this store are very cheap quality and flimsy material. One wash and its gone! Not to mention the clothes and jewelry here are WAY overpriced. I was very disappointed at the pilling on my sweater after one wear and my blouse lost a button after one wear. I wish I could return my stuff, but the store has an impossible return policy. Its like, in store credit only and you only have 5 days or something unreasonable like that. I searched this stores website and literally EVERYTHING on the site... EVERYTHING can be found on Amazon for almost 20 dollars cheaper! They probably buy straight from Amazon and mark it up in the store. I would never shop here, this store is literally robbing you!

Ive ordered several items online from them for gifts and for myself. I have NOT been disappointed nor have the people I ordered the gifts for. They are prompt in responding when they receive the orders and getting the items shipped. They call if they have any questions on your order-now thats what I call customer service. I will continue to support this wonderful small business!

I have gone into J.ella boutique Brookings a couple of times in the last couple of months. Excellent customer service. A tall blonde gal helped me both times. She was very helpful and kind. I also was in one of the times that the owner herself was in . She was also very helpful and kind. I got some clothes for myself and a couple of gifts for my granddaughter. All very good quality! I am big on shopping local and customer service ! Lucky me I got both. Thanks for the positive experience 😊👍🏼. I was doing some online shopping for SDSU swag (GO JACKS!). I read that the first time you subscribe to the newsletter you will receive an e-mail with a 15% discount. I never received the e-mail. I called and spoke with Haley and she went above and beyond to accommodate me. I was very pleased with her friendly and time efficient help so I could place my order! I will for sure order again!
J.Ella always offers a great experience. I was running late and needed a birthday gift so called the store to see if they could set aside a gift for me. I gave Haley some insight to what I wanted and she even texted me a few pictures to choose from. When I showed up to the Old Market, the gift was set aside and beautifully wrapped complete with a signed card! Haley was a true joy to work with and delivered an exceptional customer service experience!

Shopping with my toddler and she was really struggling with not having my full attention - the staff was AH-MAY-ZING!!! Bringing me sizes and making suggestions to save me time while Haley sat and read ‘Pete the cat’ to her. They’ve really nailed providing a mama friendly shopping experience. The owner made light of negative comments, towards women that amounted to fat shaming by her partner, in public. This behavior makes me no longer comfortable to shop in the store. I have shopped here since I moved into town and I honestly always find something that suits me very well. The staff have always been kind and seemingly non-discriminatory towards me. I respect the owner’s rights to their opinions and perspectives. However, it is within my right to stop supporting this establishment any longer, I am taking my business elsewhere. Furthermore, I do not wish to be seen as a women that supports these remarks in my community and in general. I fear that If I continue to do business there, the young women who work for the owners might believe the comments are okay and that I am okay with them. I am not. Discrimination is not okay for me, my family, or our community. People are different and shouldn’t be shammed for having different body types. I encourage the community to continue to protect diversity and work towards inclusivity. We are a small community and this exclusive behavior hurts.
This store is gorgeous and in addition to all the beautiful things I love for myself, there are adorable baby and children’s items. I have also had a great experience shopping online!
I would like to give 0 stars. The owner of the establishment and her husband engaged in a public display of what they call “hick hopping.” Where they go to local bars, drink, and make fun of people. This has been a long standing tradition of these people. Well, instead of keeping it private the owner posted about her rude husbands comments when they were in ND. The local community spoke up about this incident due to the fact that she claims to be “inclusive,” yet makes light of her husband’s “Fat shaming” comments. She removed the “reviews” tab from her facebook page. Thus I am posting here. Public discrimination isn’t okay. Take your business elsewhere.

I can’t say enough good things about this business. Jael and her stylists have helped me find the perfect pieces for countless occasions. Most days I walk out of my door wearing an entire outfit bought from J.ella with no shame whatsoever as I walk back into their store. They have a great variety and a unique style shoppers can only find in locally owned boutiques. Love love love this store!!!
I am often at Old Market Eatery, which is in the same building as the J.ella Brookings location. I love to pop over and shop with Haley, she’s a doll! J.ella has the cutest SDSU clothing in their Gameday Social brand, and I love the baby clothes and accessories. Also, this boutique is adorable, very well decorated.
The store was beautifully laid out, clean, and had everything we needed or wanted! Everything was well priced and the staff was so helpful!

The variety is great and Ive been able to find the perfect outfit and/or accessory for comfy mom days, vacations and going out. This place is a must to check out when shopping in Brookings!
Overrated and over priced. Not to mention, she and her husband body shame women who don’t meet their body standards. She shared the demeaning comments her husband made about women they saw while on a trip on her social media, and must have thought they were funny. I’d buy clothing from more inclusive local businesses in Brookings.
I had my senior pictures done here back in 2015 and I was definitely not the smallest I’ve ever been then. Knowing what the owner finds funny to joke about behind people’s backs (fat shaming) I can only imagine what she said about me after that. The owner is a female of a ladies boutique, shame on her over and over again. The fact she ever thought it was funny let alone sharing the post with the world is, beyond unprofessional, it is sad. I am happy to say I will never be shopping there again and I suggest any ladies who aren’t within her standards of being ‘model sized’ to take your business ANYWHERE else. Even Walmart would be better.

By far my favorite place to shop in South Dakota! The boutiques in Brookings and Sioux Falls are amazing and have a variety of styles to feel the individuals needs of everyone! The staff is very helpful at putting together the right look for any event or when just treating yourself to something new. They have a great selection of accessories and shoes to complete the outfit. I highly recommend the boutiques to all fashion lovers!

I loved the clothes i have bought from here, but I will never ever shop here again because of the comments fat shaming other women made by her husband and posted by her, her apology made it even worse, and the fact her husband continued to post more things on his instagram about his son saying even MORE fat shaming things. this is ridiculous, and i do not believe you can own a boutique and claim you’re inclusive of everyone but yet fat shame.
Jael recently did a family photoshoot for us and the pictures turned out amazing! I’d highly recommend her for your baby or family photos.

J.ella is beyond darling. I am a frequent mama shopper. I can find great gifts, last minute outfits for social events, and cozy tops for hanging at home. Jaels great style helps keep me trendy without much effort- Im too tired to keep up! I appreciate the ease of the shopping experience. My fav buy is usually denim or shoes- and awesome baby products.
