I had a much longer tangential rant, but I decided to give the shorter response.I dont feel welcomed when I walk in. Out of the handful of times I have visited, my head nods/hello/smile/wave have been met with blank stares or seemingly glares. I expect that from other customers, but not from staff.Trash cans are scarce in the store, except the one by the front door. I apparently need someone to help me see with my poor vision because I couldnt find any baskets. Things around the store are poorly located, hard to find, or not set up in a very strategical manner.The reason I started this review was the absurdity that after checking the: 1) deli cheeses, 2) the sandwich meats/Lunchables section, and the 3) apparently vegan foods and cheeses section --- BTW these are all in distant sections from each other in the store --- that the Kraft Singles I was sent on an errand mission for, were like, next to the juices, on the opposite end of the milk aisle. Obviously, I dont expect the struggle slices to be with the premium cheeses but... Why was the store planned like this??Its 3 stars because although I did see mold on some of the fruits during my trip today, it still is cleaner, has a decent selection, and better kept than other grocery stores in the area. Also, the times Ive gone to self-checkout it wasnt problematic. If I could go to a better store though, I would.

Just tried calling in a seafood order at 4:45 pm. Wanted Haddock- Yep, Sea Scallops-Nope! Okay no worries.How about Sweet Potato Fries......ummm....let me go check.....yep! Okay how about Clam Strips-Nope! At that point I said forget about it. Ill go somewhere else....

The construction is in full swing. It will be a fabulous store once completed. Now it’s just learning where the stock is now.

Would like disclosure in fish department on everything fresh, frozen or previously frozen discerning any and all chemicals, sodium additives or any seafood additives.. You need to disclose this information,, as food additives affect the the allergic to those. Allergic.. Certify the quality! Love your store, shop everyday. Nice and clean, S andas like stepping back in time to a third world country.. I buy seafood with you but I am very carefully.. Lets see a certification. See you guys again tomorrow..

Manager Daniel and associate Joe was very rude and nasty with me at 9 in the morning all because I needed to make a return. He yelled at me and belittled me for making a return. Both men are a disgrace to customer service industry and big y as a company. Awful people who should not work in customer service since they can’t talk to people nicely.

Always have what I am looking for at great prices.

Cost me 34 dollars for a pack of burgers, smallest ketchup and mayo avail, and a pack of buns.. totally insane prices, weird setup compared to every other place Ive been to, would recommend trader Joes, which is cheaper and organic.

This is a one stop shop for everything grocery. The prices are pretty moderate too with amazing customer service.

Store remodel in full swing,,Store looks great,,however same rude,unprofessional management which trickles down to the staff. You can put lipstick on a pig!!

They are remodeling and switched the products in different aisles. So it takes awhile to find the items Im looking for. Hopefully they will be done soon remodeling.

Prices a little high for my budget, but some of their sales are impossible to stay away from. Best coupon policy in the state.

They have delicious sushi, but sometimes its just weird here.

One of my all-time favorite grocery stores. Has a local feel but has very high quality food. So many selections. Pizza take out is delicious as is sushi and sandwiches. The seafood counter is always fresh and delicious. Beer selection is great and produce is organized and tasty!

The best place to buy flowers that will last for 2 to 3 weeks and pastry (cakes, bread and in between) are delicious and very low cost. Everything you buy is at really good price...probably not as low as Walmart but that is why you buy things where are better for you but in my opinion BigY is better in organization, customer service and checkouts are very fast and paper bags are more ecofriendly.

This store is great I bought some fish and chips, scallops, a calamari, and shrimp on Saturday the person that cooked the order was awesome he offered specials and prepared the meals perfectly I didnt get his name but thank you. Branford is always on point!!!!!!

They are remodeling but service was still great as always

There have been long lines at the Big Y, Branford, bottle return room every day this week. Today no line, but one person at a plastic recycling machine with a huge bag of bottles. The sign said one person in the room at a time. The second plastic machine is 6 feet from the first. The attendant agreed but insisted a rule is a rule. She came to within three feet of me to explain her irrationality.I left the return area and shopped. Placed my bags in the loading area. A store employee walked to within two feet of me to bag. I asked the employee to distance and said I would bag myself.I still have those bottles. Id appreciate some safe easement of the bottle return area and some real distancing. Tough times made tougher by nonsense and pretend compliance. No headaches, no fever, no big deal.

Just go there to return bottles

A bit narrow for the carts when they over pack the aisles. But does make the rapid shopping experience more exciting when things are falling all around. Every now and then the cheese selection compares to other stores. Good olive bar.:-)

The store does not recycle plastic bags/plastics any more.The question is why?Big Y is more expensive then other grocery stores in the area so they should at least do plastic recycling.

Very nice place..prices are a bit higher then Im use to..but there customer service was really great and very helpful. Will go there again..just with a bigger wallet..lol..

Instacart delivery. Aisles one way. Spacing marked on floor. Masks required. Oh yeah especially good for fresh vegetables and fruits, seafood and mear.

Good spot to do your grocery shopping. Always sales on the things I need like meat and cheese. They have nice people for the most part. Pretty good hours and plenty of parking.

Service here was great. Always someone to answer a question and help you in any way they can. During my shopping trip, I met Daniel. He was helpful with a sense of humor. I used to shop at the Big Y in Rocky Hill but have since moved to New Haven. When I can get a ride, this will be my go-to store in Branford. Im not related to Daniel and just met him today but he demonstrates how service should be taught to every kid.

Great prepared food, clean store and great prices.

It was easy getting our grocery shopping done and through the check out line. I was happy to see all registers open with baggers. In addition to the 12 items or less registers they also had a cash only register. There were loads of fresh fruit, vegetable and protein options. They had only green bananas and thats surprising considering its Saturday.

We like this location. The store is clean, they have local options, and the staff is friendly and helpful! On the other hand, there is only one kind if tofu so I guess thats not part of their primary demographic profile.

I wanted to buy fresh hot soups but store doesnt sell it to customers. Disappointed

Theres nothing wrong with the big y but Im reluctant to give it 5 stars since its not really a stand out grocery store. You go there because you have to, not because you want to. I can usually find what I need in there, the people working are nice, but its a super market- and you will end up spending more time in here than you expect. I like how it opens to the fresh produce and flowers.

The prices are fair. The produce is good but lacks the quality of the other markets in our area. Parking is also a problem at 2 of the 3 local Big y stores.

Go to big y only for the sales. Got my hellmans mayo and a nice watermelon. Also had my fish and chips, which I havent had for a while. They got skimpy, but were still good as I remembered

So there is a plastic bag ban i understand.. But charging a dollar $1.00 for a paper bag is ridiculous and a rip off. I was told a one time use paper bag should be 10¢ not $1.00?!?What a complete scam, con, thievery! I see why people are hitting the road and leaving this state...ridiculous and pathetic we have become. Everything you say and do will be taxed in some way. Time to invest in paper and plastics and hike those prices too lol. Cant trust no one anymore... Sad..

Staying in area for a wedding. Picked up some items for 6 of us to have lunch. More intimate Big Y than our Big Y in Groton, CT. Same great quality and service. Ordered two 30 grinders from sandwich area. Crewmember was extremely helpful. Picked up other items, to also eat lunch at hotel. Grinders items and bread were fresh and tasty.

Great service. On my visit there I I bought some groceries and forgot to user there discount card and I actually lost a receipt but when I went there and ask the store manager to reimburse me he actually work with me until he found on their computer my shopping record and made sure that the discount has been applied to my debit card. Great service!

I cannot believe how unprofessional the manager is. She was directing long lines due to covid and straight up hit a customer with, “move to the right, your other right.”

This store is a disgusting disaster. I will drive the extra 10 minutes to the North Haven location that is actually clean, takes pride in its appearance and isn’t insanely rude to its customers. The deli’s customer service skills are poor at best, lecturing their customers about “respect” instead of doing their job. Hands down worst grocery shopping experience of my life.

I love the convenience of the location. The store is always clean, great sales and fast service . The deli line is always moving and I can get in and out in my time. I just wish they had a better produce section.

Deli meat brands are Big Y Brand OR World Class Brand, both are store brands, one just inexplicably costs more and both brands seem watery?? Sushi is always good at least, they are independent. Go with a unionized grocery store.

My husband and I have been reading all of the reviews about big Y!!! we cant wait for our shopping trip here at the Branford location and we are happy to have read the reviews and know that the store is actually at least 4 stars or more Ty for the reviews andthank you for your inputs.... and we cant wait to give you our own opinions about your store...being new to the area we are very interested in learning and seeing all of our local grocery stores shopping plaza and any and all types of shopping of any kind we are a very open minded and curioust of people that like to try out any and all new things especially in the areas where we are just moving into thank you and we cant wait to try it out stay tuned for our review

Never been to this Big Y until today, definitely a good experience. Staff was friendly and helpful! Will come here again.

At one time prior to becoming the big Y store this was the worst place to go. Thankfully that has changed and after vowing never to go back there again, Big Y has really done some great things and made the store very nice and inviting. Staff there is really great, with the exception of bottle returns. Did have an issue with one person (manager) in regards to there policy. They really need to rethink the policy about bringing back bottles and using a shopping cart. Thankfully I do not see that staff person there any longer and there have not been any more confrontations.

I love this Branford, CT grocery. Their Petite Baguettes, garlic salsa, chocolates, huge rotisserie chickens and very friendly service people make them special.

Produce section leaves a lot to be desired. Often dont have advertised items. The store though is kept clean and the staff is helpful, friendly, and polite.

I am happy to report that the wounded warrior parking spot is now back and it is not a handicap spot. One of the big reasons that i shop here is simply they respect everyone. Thank you for whoever fixed the problem. I am not alone when it comes to being a wounded warrior and isnt handicap.

Not only is this place the most expensive grocery store I have ever shopped, they can not take care of their meat. I have bought meat from them 3 times, and each time I have bought it from them, the meat is bad. The date on the package is good, but the meat smells horrible. I dont think they keep it at the right temperature. Word of advice go elsewhere to get your food and meat.
