The mushroom and ricotta danish I got here was the best pastry I had in Boulder by far. So much delicious mushroom flavor. The coffee is also excellent, and it is delightful that there are multiple coffees to choose from.Theres also plenty of seating, but there doesnt seem to be outlet access so its not great for sitting and working the day away. Still probably my favorite coffee shop in Boulder.
My introduction to boxcar was actually through their coffee beans. After loving their beans I went to the actual coffee shop for the first time. I ordered the cardamom rose latte and a spinach fetta croissant. The latte was hands down one of the best I have ever had. The flavors were phenomenal. You could taste each flavor without it overpowering the delicious coffee. Perfect balance of cream and sweetness. The croissant was also delicious. My husband ordered the pistachio and rose croissant and it was very good. Im sad that I live 45 minutes away because I would go to this place all the time if I could.
Excellent coffee and service. Additionally, theres a deli with cheese and meat in the same location. Ample seating inside as well.
Update - Im tired of driving all the way here to find theyre 100% out of single origin beans. Wasted way too much time trying to be a customer. Somewhere near half the time theyre out. So not 5 stars.Love that I can usually walk in and pick up some beans that were roasted within a few days of when I am buying them. Staff is really friendly. Ill always note queer-friendly businesses and this is one of them. To the coffee roasting people here: It would be great if there were more processes available at any given time. When Im in, usually every bean but one is washed. Would like more natural and honey options. Thank you!
The best around. Beans are high quality, fresh roasted, and baristas are pros. Pastries and treats are also incredible, if they dont sell out!Boxcar is my top choice for coffee in Colorado.
The coffee is pretty good, their seasonal drinks are tasty. The pastries were delicious! The everything spice ricotta croissant was one of the yummiest things I’ve had in a long time. The anise cookie unfortunately didn’t taste like anise, but had a perfect texture, it was light and crispy. Usually, cafes either do pastries good or coffee good, but this place does them both very well. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Awesome shop. Good coffee, I bought a good bottle of wine too. The staff was very helpful and pleasant
Best coffee in town and excellent pastries. Also next to Cured which makes for an excellent option to go get a sandwich for lunch and coffee. Stella blend coffee is one of my favorites for lattes. Feels like latte from Barcelona.
Ordered the chai and the in season homemade pumpkin spice. Both had just enough spice and flavor to not completely overpower the coffee. Yum!
Great service. Loved the pistashio rose croissant. The fritata was also good but would have been better if it was hot. Beautiful tasty latte.
The Cafe is good with very good coffees and teas. The sandwiches are expensive and pre-made. So the bread needs to be toasted before you eat it and if seating there for hours then it will not taste that good.
Delicious coffee and cozy vibes. The staff are super friendly and the coffee was delightful. Heads-up that if you’re vegan, they do not have any vegan baked goods, but that’s okay.
A pleasant atmosphere, and great coffee. Boxcar Coffee indeed gets great beans and knows how to brew it. Coffee lovers will appreciate the baristas’ skills and knowledge in coffee. The place, however, can get very crowded. It’s obvious because it’s the top coffee place in Boulder, but won’t give you that great “Quiet Coffee Time”. They also sell some fresh meats which is a bit weird because it’s a coffee house, not a chophouse. Despite my negative observations, this is the go-to coffee house in Boulder.
My favorite coffee shop, by far, in the area! The cappuccino is perfect! The food selection is creative, fresh and amazingly delicious! Definitely try the rose water, pistachio croissant. Whatever diet you are on, this is worth and extra session of workout! Highly recommend! I also recommend ordering ahead for pickup!
It was our first time trying Boxcar and I have to say we were dissapointed with the behavior from one of the baristas. The guy who rang us up was super nice and suggested I try the El Sal for my iced vanilla latte. It was too bitter and a bit sour for my taste so I politely asked the female barista if she could remake the latte with the Stella and I explained why but was met with a very rude attitude. She seemed offended even though I tried to be polite about it. So I guess we wont be coming back. I did end up liking the Stella but the customer service was just poor. I had high hopes for this place since Peets coffee recently closed.
Even though we stopped in while they were extremely busy, they are super efficient and ordering options are clear. They share a space with Cured, which pairs well.Because of the altitude they can boil their single cup coffee instead of the traditional pour over. It is cool to watch! The cortado was very good as well.
Normally we buy and grind our own from village roasters or a few other specialty coffee shops...We had to drive to Boulder to meet some folks in Boulder and decided to drop in a pickup a few bags...Both were horrible!! Very bitter and we even played with our Ninja coffee Maker settings and amounts of scoops for both bags... Couldnt fix the coffee. One bag bitter, the other flavorless.Im sorry if folks normally really like this coffee and maybe its a problem because of covid?? But honestly the coffee was horrendous.
My absolute favorite in Boulder. Wonderful expresso drinks, bread and cheese. Be aware that lines can be long and bread not available till 10.30 am. They also sell the rare and delicious canelé from Bordeaux.
Took a day trip to Boulder to do some hiking at Chautauqua and started my day off right with a coffee and croissant from this cafe. Great quality and really cool vibes. Would def be here a lot if I lived here.
Amazing coffee and great atmosphere. Got iced lattes and they were delicious. A lot of seating even though it was crowded!
Really good cheese, meats and they know how to make a real cappuccino.
TLDR: a funky cycle friendly cafe in boulder. Great coffee, service and DONUTS !We found this place by accident and fell in love instantly.A cycle friendly cafe they have some super cool cycle gear for sale. Carb load after a long ride with some tasty donuts and a good proper strong coffee! In the same building there is a deli which wasn’t open but had some great food available too.I’d recommend this place for a chilled coffee w friends or if you need to do some work - there were a few people w laptops open! Your only a short walk from the main centre of old boulder town so handy!
Another coffee house gem in Boulder, but wait, there’s more…on the right side, there’s also a fine wine shop, along with cured meats and wonderful cheeses.
Cute coffee shop with really great cold brew.
Nice place Great coffee. But i dont understand blocking off the power plugs.....wanted to stay but couldnt becouse my old laptop needs a plug.
Boulder is hit or miss… This spot is a hit when you’re craving good espresso!
Love this place for many reasons! The staff was really friendly and the coffee was great, but it was the pistachio croissant that made me go back again. Theyve also implemented a ton of extra precautions because of Covid--the whole experience felt very safe and I really appreciate the steps theyve taken to keep everyone healthy!
Best coffee in boulder for my money, and some really interesting pastries that are baked fresh. The pastries sell out quick, so get there early.
Always the best coffee in Boulder. Take home some of their freshly roasted beans!
Hands down the best coffee in Boulder and probably Colorado! Definitely take home some beans they are fantastic.
I’m a barista traveling from out of state and was super impressed! My boyfriend got an iced breve and I got an iced vanilla latte w oat milk. Super smooth and nice espresso with lots of chocolate and caramel notes. Also had a breakfast sandwich that was outstanding. Highly recommend if you’re in the area. Might have to grab some whole bean for back home! Also love the social distancing measures they are taking.
Cant wait for it to open the dining area but still amazing coffee and dang good sandwiches.
They had Salvadoran coffee and it tasted good, there was a line, but is Boulder, Im used to it.
Great coffee and great service
Iced mocha didnt seem to contain any chocolate. Breakfast sandwich was right-sized and tasty, but costs about twice as much as it should. $4.50 is way steep for a little doughnut, but it was very good and I wanted to try it. They also express their political opinions to everyone with a very obvious poster out front.
Boxcar is great. Always very clean, great drinks. A basic latte or eggnog latte are perfect when you feel like having something a little different from black coffee.
I started came here when it wasnt so popular and busy. Their beans are locally roasted and well known. I like to try their drip coffee and they only few tea selections, but they all are good. Although their drinks are really good, I wish theyd care more for pastries, because one time I saw flies were flying around pastries since they are just exposed outside.
Lame that they take your order and serve you at an unadorned table outside their front door. Service is slow, and they gave me two small coffees, but charged me for larges.
Coffee was amazing. A nice walk in the afternoon for some caffeine, the gal who took our order was very kind and helpful. Although inside seating is off, we werent bothered to wait outside for a short while for our coffee. A refreshing cold beverage for the early morning!
Gifting Boxcar coffee to our friends & vendors for Christmas. On the spot service, excellent pricing, great varieties to choose from. Boxcar coffee has always been a hit and were happy to give it again.
Ok -- super secret info here — Boxcar started offering Pumpkin Spice lattes this fall. I was way too cool to order one the first few weeks...but then I gave in on a cold Fall day. Omg Milli magic! This is not your average coffee shop bevy. Grab you one - I recommend with Oat Milk! Pronto!
Visited Boulder a few weeks ago and wanted to try coffee from a new roastery. Boxcar wasnt open for dining in, so just got some beans to go. The employee that helped me was friendly and definitely passionate about coffee. I Bought the El Salvador Finca Himalaya Maragogype, and brewed it at home via chemex. This was one of the best coffees Ive ever had! The beans are uniquely large and flavorful. I was so impressed, I ordered more beans online!
Killer breakfast sandwich here! Coupled with an awesome latte!
Best coffee Ive had in a long time. Respectful staff following strict social distancing. Cant wait to go back.
We get coffee here whenever we visit Boulder..never lets us down.
Overpriced, battery acid; served from an establishment that still forces you to cover your face with a mask.
I love this place and their AMAZING coffee so much I drive more than a hundred miles one way to get some at least a couple times a month!!
I was very impressed with the quality of the coffee here. It take awhile for them to pull all the shots, but it is definitely worth the wait. I had a double shot Americano and it was maybe one of the best cups I’ve had this year. The baked goods are fantastic and I would recommend getting two for breakfast since 1) they are a bit on the smaller side and 2) how could you possibly choose one when presented with a plethora of amazing looking treats!I can’t comment on the sandwiches, but I hope I can go back and try them out soon.
I was sad that I wasnt going to have the savory scone I ordered first, but all Im going to say is that the pistachio and rose croissant they recommended instead was A-Mazing. Cappuccino was on point too. You will NOT go wrong!
I go here everytime Im in Boulder.Coffee is amazing and so are the pastries!Great ambiance inside.
Best coffee in Boulder :) Staff is always super friendly and helpful! We love Boxcar Coffee!
Top notch coffee. Love the flavors and atmosphere. It’s usually a wait but totally worth nonetheless. All of the baked goods are always perfect and staff has solid recommendations. Even during times of long waits I feel like the staff gives me the attention needed while keeping things flowing.
Boxcar Coffee Roasters is hands down my favorite & go to cafe even if I dont live in the neighborhood!! I go to school down in San Jose now but whenever I do come home, this is my go to coffee shop. The ambiance is perfect for getting work done or just catching up with friends. My friends and I love coming to Home for a nice cup of coffee and to color and destress.
The best roaster in Boulder, bar none. There’s usually a wait, but it’s always worth it. I prefer to brew my own and when I buy locally there’s few other choices to compare it with.Recently tried a pastry and was blown away as well. This place can do no wrong, a second location would be great to alleviate the pressure.
Maybe I would have liked this place more if I hadnt read the reviews first, but I was not blown away by their coffee at all. Having spent years in Seattle and Portland the coffee flavor here seemed average, small portioned, and over priced.
Excellent baked goods. The sticky bun is a destination pastry. Ordered a normal coffee which was very good. Nice space to sit down and eat/drink slowly. Line gets a little long if you don’t show up right when it opens at least on a Saturday. This would be my go to coffee shop if I lived in Boulder.
Nice and smooth coffee. Quick service. Brilliant location.
Fabulous varieties of coffee, 5 Star customer service from Linnea and her Boss, easy-to-use website. Will be very proud to give this coffee for gifts...if I can bare to part with it!
The only whole beans we use in our Espresso Machine.
If you’re from Boulder, you already know this place, but if if you are visiting Colorado and love coffee as much as I do Boxcar Coffee is a must. For all you coffee snobs out there (my hand is raised) you will absolutely love not only the coffee, but the vibe of this place. Boxcar is a cool mix of artisan coffee paired with a small gift shop of local finds, a fine cheese and meat selection, and a wine nook in the back right corner. For all you fancy pants coffee drinkers, order the Boiler Maker Coffee with a lemon cookie👌🏼
Easily my favorite coffee place in boulder. The coffee and pastries (they do have some GF options) are delicious, and the atmosphere is great. They also have great sandwiches and gourmet food and wine for sale.
I went here on one of the very first few days they opened and I was in a hurry and thought - cool, a new coffee spot! and Cured wasnt even set up yet so I didnt get it. It took like 12 minutes to get my coffee and it was $4 and I was a bit shocked and thought this place will never make it....but then I went back when I had a moment and understood that this place offers amazing coffee pour-overs and they are total coffee geeks and this whole place - from the coffee to the meats/cheeses/gifts/booze etc... is SO AWESOME. Love this place and visit each time Im back in Boulder.
We ordered a boilermaker and a drip. Both were coffees any coffee aficionado would love, while being very different. The drip had a clean taste, while the boilermaker had a muddy look and more chewy taste. There is a large selection of interesting pastries. Both we had were yummy.Nice atmosphere. Nice people. They share space with Cured and a wine shop, making this an equally great day long stop.
Great coffee, Great Vibe
Favorite coffee shop, hands down. Knowledgeable friendly baristas, great atmosphere, insanely good pastries, beautifully simple menu, and incredible espresso. I go here often.
This is a very snooty place to get coffee. If you know someone, it seemed like they were friendlier. But being an Out of Towner, we felt very set aside. There is absolutely no reason for any business to act like that. First we have come across since being in Colorado. I had a hot chocolate - Ive definitely had better. Hubs coffee was drinkable but just okay.
Atmosphere is great.
Great coffee and service. Had a pour over today and it was delicious. Space inside is typically coffee shop but coffee is great:)
I love lattes and have drunk them all over the world, but they have the best latte I’ve ever had. Went back twice during my Boulder visit and I wish I could return everyday. Great chocolate chip cookies too- love the pinch of sea salt on top- and delicious pastries.
One of the best coffee places in Boulder! Highly recommend it! Also try some of their pastries or cakes. Always tastes fresh and delicious!
Good coffee and pastries, but expensive and often crowded. We got a coffee cup that had someone else’s lipstick on it. Definitely avoid coming here when the bike shop next store has group rides scheduled; it’s impossible to walk down the sidewalk.
Nice little coffeeshop joined with a Deli in the same space. Good drinks, tasty pastries, and friendly service. Good for to go orders or meeting another 1-2 people. Not great for groups (limited seating, and its busy).
This place is always crowded, with a very good reason - coffee is awesome! I love cappuccinos so I go there whenever I have time. Otherwise I would go to Ozo which is equally good.
Very nice place, super helpful and friendly staff, great pastries.Oddly, the coffee drinks were just meh.My double shot Latte tasted like warm milk with a hint of coffee. That hint had no flavor. As compared to Equator coffee in Marin, and a number of other renowned coffee roasters that would be four or five stars, the coffee was two stars.
