Visited the store yesterday and purchased a magnificent roll top desk. The store is carefully curated and the pieces are in pristine condition. Definitely a Boulder gem.The owner, Judy, was wonderful. We will definitely be back.Highly recommend!!!!
Was in here a couple weeks again and have been meaning to write a review. What a cool place! We were very happy to see the owner taking precautions to keep herself and customers safe and spread out in the store by limiting capacity. We never felt rushed and she was happy to answer our questions. We did not at all mind waiting outside for a few minutes while the previous customers finished up.Thank you for taking the pandemic seriously and doing your best with what you’ve got. It’s certainly not easy. We will definitely be back!
My wife and I stopped by after hearing the owner (Judi) on a Bee Gees podcast. She was the bands photographer back in the 70s! Classy lady with a great shop. Lots of neat items on offer. We picked up one of her photos of the brothers Gibb and will be back for sure. PS we appreciated the safe covid measures in place and those giving her poor reviews for that are just sour grapes, mask rebel imbeciles. Thanks for an awesome visit Judi!
Used to love this place before the pandemic! Went in after 8 months of quaran-times to look for a coffee table, simple. We approached the entrance and the store owner rushed out and said we’d have to wait while she removed the blockade. We’d been there before and are local so she let us in, and said we were the first ones she’d let in all day (it was 2pm). Upon entering she asked that we sanitize our hands and not touch anything, which was totally understandable. We were there for about a minute before another customer came to the door, and she started saying that we were going to hurry up and leave soon. Rude! The other customer looked uncomfortable with the owner aggressively explaining the store rules to her, we hurried up just so she wouldn’t be stuck listening to that. The owner continued to state how we were leaving, pacing between us and the other customer, so we did. We were only in for about 3 minutes, and couldn’t even consider buying anything. I feel bad because obviously the owner is extremely anxious about safety during the pandemic, but I’m sure she’s losing a lot of loyal customers and business with such a stressful store environment. It was the most uncomfortable and unwelcoming experience I’ve ever had, anywhere.
The staff left us standing at the door for ages and when she finally acknowledged us we felt as though we were an imposition. We were hoping to shop local for holiday gifts and love to support small businesses, but this was such an unwelcoming experience we won’t be returning. COVID can make you cautious but if you are terrified of every customer standing outside, you should probably just be online.
This store is extremely covid strict, which I understand, but the lady who works there is incredibly rude about it. Like you can be covid safe without acting like everyone who comes in is an inconvenience to you. Whenever I asked a question she would either snap back or act dismiss with every answer. Like I asked her how much something was because the price had been written over a couple times and I couldn’t tell what the numbers were anymore, and when I asked she snapped at me saying it was written on the price tag. I tried explaining how the numbers were ineligible, and in response she said “I don’t know, like twenty” in a dismissive tone. I will admit, I looked a little grungy because I had just been driving for a few hours on a road trip, and happened to see this place as I was close to getting home, but when she said “you know this place is an UPSCALE consignment store right?” While looking me up and down, it made me feel so embarrassed that I left pretty much right after she said that. Plus I was the only person in there, and another customer showed up after I had only been there for a couple minutes. The shopkeeper let me know she wasn’t letting the other person in until I left, which made me feel anxious to leave even more. So I spent no more then five minutes there total, and the whole experience was awful. Like I said I can understand covid restrictions, but I think that this isn’t the way to do things, as it makes the customer inside and the one outside both anxious and feel like they’re being a burden. Perhaps if she’s so anxious about covid she should consider hiring help to work at the store during the day for her instead, until the pandemic is over (if this was the owner I was dealing with, which based on looking at others negative reviews/recent bad experiences, it was)? Plus everything here is insanely overpriced. For example, they were selling a single antler for $65, when I had the same size antler at home, and I bought it for no more then $20. You’ll save money and have a MUCH better time at literally any other resale place in Boulder.
This place is awesome! We have always found something interesting here. They get new stuff in all the time, new meaning cool old stuff worth buying and putting in your home. Just going there to browse is a no go, youll wind up buying something. So all you people that like antiquing or like quality stuff from a time long past, check them out. If you go, buy what you like, otherwise itll be gone the next time you visit!
I was originally going to go to Boulder Sports Recycler near by but it was closed so I thought this place would be nice to take a peak. My friend and I waited outside for a few minutes because of covid which wasnt the problem. Once we got inside we looked around for a bit. The owner was checking out customers that were obviously of higher value to her than us since they were purchasing furniture. We were critiqued several times by the owner that we were in the way or shouldnt touch low priced items. My intent was to purchase a gift for a friend. I was squatting to look at some jewelry and was told to not hit my head on the flat glass pane. It was annoying to be so constantly critiqued by the owner when we were clearly looking to purchase something. This was the fourth or fifth comment from the owner as if I was 12 years old. We decided to leave without purchasing anything since this owner clearly viewed my friend and I as prepubescent teens instead of valuable adult customers. The owner was rude and agitating but maybe if you are a middle aged adult you might be treated with better mannerism. Looking at other reviews it looks like her behavior is bothersome to lots of customers.
Some okay pieces in the shop, but not worth the drive if you don’t live in Boulder. The owner is very flighty and does not accurately describe condition of pieces she lists online for sale. Drove 45 minutes to see a dining table she described as in “amazing” condition only to find it has water damage galore and the rosewood veneer was bubbling and flaking. What a complete waste of time.
Highly overrated place. Store is filled with vintage and antique items that are extremely over value price point. Store is much smaller than it appears. Staff seems quite rude to customers. Overheard several interactions where staff cursed at clients and told them in no uncertain terms to basically leave. Took me off guard. We left quite quickly. We will not go back and have advised our friends on our FB groups and such not too either.
I get that we are living in trying and scary times, but if you are very concerned about your personal safety then perhaps sticking to online sales is the best approach. The shop is nice and has good MCM pieces, some overpriced and some fairly priced. The jewelry is terribly overpriced, about double the price of most retail antique shops. The best word to describe the owner is kooky, but I wont disagree with other reviewers that she is rude. At first she was friendly and asked if wed been there before, but we said we werent local. When asked where we were from we answered Boston, and she said, Wow, long drive. The fact that we flew then set off a panic and she warned us that downtown Boulder was very crowded but added, But you obviously dont care, so I guess youll go anyway. Weve been imprisoned in our own homes for more than 3 months, and unlike the majority of people in Boulder, dont go out in public without a mask (and infections in our state are on the decline unlike Colorado, which is wonderful and lucky to have such a great outdoors). I said I care for my 90 year old dad so I care very much and walked out.
Very overpriced even though the owner said it was all 50% lower than the retail value. Personally, I didnt find the selection of items very interesting either. Finally, it was a very unwelcoming atmosphere, will not be back.
Wow what an amazing collection of art, art glass, mid century modern furniture, and vintage & art jewelry. Lots of rock & roll memorabilia as well. Excellent customer service...the store owner is friendly and worldly. Prices were very fair. Go here and see a life mask of David Bowies face. Very cool collection of vintage movie posters and rock and roll photos. This lady was a roadie back in the day. Worth the drive!!!
This is a great place in Boulder, there arent many cool consignment shops around here. The owner has been nothing but kind and easy to work with -- have bought several wonderful pieces from her. She is a savvy shop keeper with great taste: the shop always has lots of cool stuff to look at, and many of the pieces are reasonably priced. I love this place and highly recommend!
I like the amazing garage sale very much. Of course I also dont mind paying more for things that are worth more. Judy is fantastic, really a pleasure to work with. She let me buy some things on a payment plan, which enabled me to actually get some really nice gifts for my family.
Great store for unique furniture items. Antique posters, cameras, musical instruments and more
Nice used and antigue home furnishings, all very high quality.
Weve been customers here several times before and have historically watched the site for mid-century modern stuff. Its nice to support local business as well, so we try when we can. However, my wife, kids, and I stopped in on the way back from a short hike last weekend. We were stopped at the door by the owner (who paused her phone call to confront us). She explained that this was a high end consignment shop and told us adults to be careful and to not let our kids touch anything. Nothing like a we dont need your type here comment walking in...We have really well behaved kids who are used to going places like this with us. So, as expected, they politely walked through the store with us for a couple minutes. After feeling followed through the store and overwhelmingly unwelcome, we left. Both my wife and I were really offended by the confrontation and rudeness of the owner.Needless to say, we will never be going back. I recommend going to Mod-Livin in Denver, Mid-Century Mike, or many of the others around if youre looking for mid-century stuff. Not only are the price/quality better (and pieces more genuine), but they are way more welcoming and kind.
I enthusiastically recommend The Amazing Garage Sale without hesitation as a consignment operation is head and shoulders above any in the entire region. Assistance in helping me downsize twice was invaluable, providing expertise and effective advice as I sifted through several decades of foreign travel and generations of antiques and curios. Sincerely, Felicie Dillard
Well done enjoyed my visit and found something I was searching for!
This is the best furniture store in Boulder, and one of the top mid-century modern boutiques in the state of Colorado. Anyone who has criticism of this store is just ignorant, because it is the best on account of its great inventory and great prices. If you want to pay more for inferior furniture, or want something new, go to West Elm, CB2 or wherever people shop these days, while I and all the other tasteful collectors continue to get rock bottom prices on heirloom pieces at The Amazing Garage Sale.
Love this consignment shop. Ive been a customer for six years. Every purchase Ive made has served me well while looking gorgeous. The really good items move fast. If you are looking for something in particular keep an eye on their website or follow on Instagram. The designer pieces I got here were a quarter of the prices I found online. People who complained about the prices might not be aware of designer resale values.
Great ecclectic collection we were looking for mid century modern items there were several really nice pieces. ❇️
She really knows her stuff! Come looking for unique and brilliant finds, but be prepared - this is not a place where you will find a “steal”. Owner is super knowledgeable and personable and loves to share information on unique pieces.
Cool spot with great staff and excellent mid-century pieces. Will be going back!
Super neat spot. Tucked away in a mechanics book. Lots of consignment items and knick knacks. Treasures and trinkets galore.
Way overpriced is all I can say.Two stars because of price and the fact that there are doodles drawings for sale at $45-$75 bucks. I’m talkin’ doodles of hands that you’d see in a “learn to draw” book. I just had to mention those because as soon as I saw them I pointed them out to my husband. We both laughed and then left; it told me what I needed to know about this store.
A nice collection of stuff, if only the amazing garage sale had prices that were as amazing as an actual garage sale...
Great selection of items. Especially the jewelry! great place to get an unusual gift. Worth the visit.
Very uninviting, overpriced and deceiving. The owner went out of her way to let me know my child needed to be managed before I had even gotten through the front door. (We had 4 adults and one child, who I was holding, so Im pretty sure we could manage) The woman then continued to follow us around the store watching every move and continued to make comments. Several items that were listed online as being for sale were nowhere in sight. She said they all had just sold. Yet months later those exact items are still listed as being available. Pretty sure she just decorates her website and Craigslist with photos of things she doesnt actually have anymore in an attempt to lure people in. What was actually there was overpriced and nothing spectacular.
Great selection of wonderfully eclectic furniture, kind staff and good turnover means that this shop is always a great one to stop in.
You will find unique things here that cannot be found anywhere else!
Very nice lady. Lots off cool stuff
I emailed back and forth on a product and agreed to come in to get it. I wrote a final email saying I was on my way, but after driving 1 hour to the shop, she told me she had sold it 10 minutes prior. Upon tweeting about my disappointment in wasting 2 hours of my day, the owner texted me to my personal number--instead of providing customer service, she told me that my tweet was unnecessary. I found the entire experience very unprofessional. I highly recommend NOT going here. It is a shame as some of the products are nice, though slightly over-priced, that the service and owner earned the place 1 star.
Lots of unique items, and the woman I talked to that worked there was very nice!
Fun collection of stuff. Not full of super bargains, but well-curated.
I found a silver compact and was talking with the store owner about how I loved it. I planned on buying it and wasnt expecting to haggle. It was marked $29. She then decided that she needed to check the makers marks. Shouldnt that have been done before it was priced? Then she decided that it should be $39! WTH???? I also questioned her about consignment of mid-century furniture/decor and she seemed to have no idea of common manufacturers ie. Hooker, Kustom Kraft. When I didnt buy the compact she couldnt get rid of me fast enough. Everything about this woman is fake right down to her fake English accent.
What an eclectic mix of items. Beautiful.
Had a wide range of knick knacks and collectibles and just stuff you might want around the house a lot of the whole made jewelry and other knick-knacks quite interesting to see with all that stuff thats in there and they have a wide variety of home stuff
I visited the store for the first time last week, and found some interesting pieces of furniture there, However I was a bit shocked to see IKEA furniture sold for for a 30% HIGHER price than IKEAs actual retail price! Maybe the lady did not know that when she bought it from craigslist...
Beware of inflated pricing and shoddy sales techniques. I bought a retro table and chairs for $300. It seemed pricey for the condition and I tried to negotiate to no avail. Anyhow, the look and size was perfect so I went for it. 3 chairs were displayed, the 4th in back in storage. After paying and loading the table + 4 chairs in my truck the owner brought the last piece out. It was in terrible condition. Had probably sat outside for years. My fault, I didnt do due diligence, didnt argue and went home with the set.Flashforward 2 years and Ive recovered, refurbished the entire set. It looks mint. I took it back to consign and the most she would give me was $100 from the sale, despite the history. I am not impressed.
Eclectic mix of furniture and nick nacks.
Neat items, overpriced, mostly furniture.
Kind hearted and awesome stuff
Interesting inventory.
90 Percent of the inventory is purchased on craigslist and then marked up.
Charming and unique
Lots of great antiques
Way over priced
Awesome selection
Amazing items
Overpriced
This is a concession store where sellers put their sales into the store.Lots of vintage costume jewelry, packed in a case that will show you when you ask. The overall number of products is sparse, but jewelry is fairly well stocked and is cheaper than $ 10 compared to antique stores such as Pearl Street and Concise Store. Others included vintage furniture, tableware, Native American ornaments, and garden decorations.I went to the end of June, but there is no narrow store cooling. The lady of the owner was very kind. He speaks slowly in English.
