Worst experience of my life, hands down.The owner smelled like body odor and had coffee breath. I seriously doubt he had showered. But anyway, he offered me 300 dollars less than spot for a gold eagle 1oz coin. Despicable.He’s really giving his people a horrible name.Not to mention that he was hitting on my young daughter the whole time, stooping so low as to inquire on her marital status. Despicable.Only positive thing about this place is when you leave and the employees.

Its just business but i wouldnt go in there uninformed of the difference between grams & pennyweight (dwt) to calculate worth, they use the ladder & will low-ball you for less than the actual value if not privy.

You guys are away off on your scrap gold buy. You’re basically paying 65% of the melt value. This is store horrible with the gold buying price. I will not return to this store. There are other stores nearby that gave me higher quotes.

The bad attitude complaints are 100% spot on. These guys act better than you when in fact they are trying to oversell low quality items. Over the years I have had to come here and I can say my last visit will truly be my last visit. So sad as when the father owned it they at least showed respect and were trustworthy. Now I advise to avoid with caution - there are plenty of better dealers in the exact same area.

Stopped in this shop... And Im so glad I did!The staff was friendly...and funny. The Younger man took a lot of time showing us various coins, letting us handle each one, and teaching us their history.The older gentleman smiled as he showed us intricate Japanese carvings that were over 100 years old. Each line of the bottom of the sandals was hand carved into it.Here’s a secret: they are opening a museum upstairs in a couple of months. Finally, a space opening up in Boston offering something we dont already have... a money museum!THE DEAL: Currency is the key to our history.We must never forget our past, lest we repeat it.

I think this is the best place in the entire city to sell gold and silver. Ive been coming here for over 10 years and still I find these guys to give the best prices. There is a fellow here I believe is the owner and he always treats me kindly. I went here last week and sold them a small bag of scrap gold and got $160 and the same bag was only going to get me $100-$120 from the other dealers in downtown, including the jewelers building.

I am reviewing my dealings with LouisMichaels from whom I purchased a lovely opal ring for my daughter ‘s wedding gift. It was so pretty but unfortunately the opal itself fell out. Louis generously replaced it and sent it back to her very quickly. We are very pleased with the results and the service.

Ah, what can I say. Terrible experience.1) Very nonprofessional on the phone.I need a 1 oz silver coin to make a set of series, and send it as a gift to my friend. It is kinda urgent. So I called locally to this shop. Some one said they have it, but they do not want to talk about the price on the phone and I need to come. Thus I went there in a hurry. It took me some time and effort to be there before they close.But it turned out that they do not have it. And the owner just said, it was not me on the phone. but with no apologize at all.I have no word to say about this. They should really check while still on the phone, or say it honestly.2) Very poor collections on at least some of the coinsThen I said, ok. I am also interested on other coins. I do not want to come once but take nothing back. They took year 2017 ones. Those capsules of the coins are worn out like s**t. I asked them, why the capsules are like this? But he just said, You want it, or not? I have no time to spend a whole day on this!I said, as long as the price is good, I would consider other years coins. But he answered: what price is good price? and give no price suggestions for the coins. I took two to check; they both are in very bad condition. Also the coins are with no price labels.3) Very rude and i wonder if the owner is something wrongI was then about to ask the price (with no offense at all) He just said, I can not spend a whole day with you. This is too aggressive. And took back the coins and left me. (Nobody besides me in the shop at that time, and later on there was just one customer and was taken care of by other clerk already. I did not spend him more than 3 minutes!)I thought maybe there was some misunderstanding. So after I left 5 minutes later, I called the owner and told him on phone again that, it is some one there had promised me that the coin is here that I came to buy it. That was why I was a little shocked when I did not see the coin. I have no offense on him and I wonder if he understand the situation.Then he just said simlarly as before, OK, but I can not spend a whole day on this small coin... Look, I do not want to talk more, but just answer me, D-O Y-O-U W-A-N-T T-H-E C-O-I-N O-R N-O-T?This experience leads me think a lot. One thing I feel is, the shop is old-fashioned and one should not expect too good on it.By reviewing the reviews previous here, now I doubt if he is a racist.

Absolutely excellent! I went here a while ago and the staff there helped me all while being polite and with smiles on their faces. I bought a few great coins and foreign banknotes at great deals! If youre into US and/or foreign coins, I would certainly recommend this store!

I came into the shop last week to sell some gold, I hadying around and was Pleasantly Surprised with the help i received. I would go back in a heartbeat if I had anymore jewelry to sell. The Gentleman running the shop was extremely polite, respectful,honest and Patient.

These guys have BAD attitudes!!! Especially on the phone there famous for that! Cheap costume jewelry, over priced! And low balled as far as buying also! Highway robbery not a good stop people keep it moving try somewhere else I guarantee you’ll be wasting your time.......

For some reason there are TWO different listings within Google currently for the same business. Which is an error on Googles part. This review too is also not right for a few reasons. First, the reviewer is upset because Colonial Trading Co. moved from the top of Bromfield and Tremont down to the middle of Bromfield. Wow..and this reviewer gives a one star review because he was not happy they moved. Childish to say the least. Second, this is one of the best antique dealers and Gold buyers in all of the greater New England area. Go in and check for yourselves. You will not only be amazed but well taken care of. So hopefully the one star review will finally be removed for the simple reason that it is making someone that is great look like they are not. It is deceiving and therefore should be removed. Colonial Trading Company has been the best jeweler and antique dealer in Boston for decades. I have never had less than 5 star service from Lous team and would recommend them to anyone.

As I am writing this the current value of gold is $1277.60/troy oz. 18.8 grams converts to 0.6044 troy oz ($772.18). They are trying to sell a used/pre-owned 24k gold band ring for $1999.00 (a ridiculous 258.87% markup) and are not willing to negotiate with the price with a PRE-OWNED piece of jewlery, no jewels, just a simple hunk of gold turned into art.

A very honest and forthright coin and jewelry shop to deal with. I have had great experience with lou at the shop.

First time review...Some guys are ok, but owner is sooooooo rude

The man working took a picture of my ID on his phone, so very uncomfortable with that. I had to buy back stolen items, they told me the transaction was not even logged, this was 3 days later, they had to back date the transaction and then sell back to me. The owner would only call the store and talk to me and would not give his last name, why would an owner not disclose his name? The man working said he was just a slave to his boss and kicked the furniture when I asked why the transaction from 3 days prior was not logged. it was bizarre. It is sad people like that run businesses.

The owner was one of the rudest people Ive met. I called to see if theyd give me an appraisal on some items, even said Id pay for their time and he just said yes yes and hung up. So I went in and immediately has an attitude, saying, and I quote, he has other things hed much rather do than waste an hour with me. His shop is trash and he is a garbage person, if there was less than 1 star hed get it.
