I had a wonderful experience here when I brought my car in. I scheduled an appointment online and they took my car right on schedule and fixed it quickly. The front staff was super friendly and kept me updated on the technicians progress. Will definitely come back with any more car needs.
Slow but decent enough prices. The middle area for easy car stuff, tires mounted, oil change, lube etc. Dont recommend it for much more unless you have a book youve been dieing to finish.
I called around 510 Monday, unaware they were still closing at 6, spoke with a gentleman named Bob who, along with the technician was kind enough to stay long enough for me to get my parents car which was in desperate need of an oil change cared for. Both looked like theyd been working hard all day and if was greatly appreciated. My parents guy, stopped doing oil changes, so despite living in Martinsville, its pep boys in Bloomington from here on out.
Don’t bring a hybrid here. They’ll let it sit in their parking lot for 3 days before calling and telling you they actually can’t work on hybrids. Would’ve been nice to know, guys.
$110 to diagnose the issue. Wanted $1400 to change a fuel pump. I can get a transmission rebuilt for that. $129.99 for the fuel pump at AutoZone $10 for impromptu tools. Two hours in the parking lot. NEVER again shall we grace the doors.
Fast service for my oil change
Hey went to get a serpentine belt they had one well they had one I needed but it was more expensive than what I had the guy cut me a break not the price down for me since I do some shopping in there every once in awhile was much appreciated Ill go back for sure good people there that know their stuff. In that what we all want not to get home and get the wrong part you been there and I know. But if you go to Pep Boys. They will care of you

Prices here seem to be a little higher than other auto parts stores however they are going to be closing part of their store and everything in front of the counter like oil, oil filters, light bulbs, tools and more are all 50% off
Set up appointment in advance, told them I was using silver rock. Was told it was no problem, see you Sunday morning. Gave them contact info and set it up. I get there for my scheduled appointment and the guy says sorry, he can’t do silver rock without his manager. Way to have me drive all the way across town with bad breaks just to waste my time.
Have used this location for years and had very good service, however today was more than beyond frustrating with prices and service being confirmed over the phone for 2 different vehicles, then having a completely different price being charged and blaming it on miscommunication. Not one single offer was made to try and rectify the situation, and I have been a long term repeat customer. Today was my last visit to Pep Boys, at least this location.
I’ve used this pep boys on and off for simple things like oil changes and tires over the years. I made an appointment for 2pm and dropped off my car to have the oil changed and they said 45 min to an hour. No problem, I said. I work close by and will just ride my bike back to work. By 4pm I haven’t received a call back; I call and no answer. 6pm I call and they tell me it’s ready and that someone should have called to let me know. They were apologetic for it, of course. I go there and pick up my car, pay, and go back out. There is a mark on the tire wall that I took notice of before dropping off the keys because I wanted to make sure the tires actually got rotated. The mark was on the same tire so it had NOT been rotated. I went back and and the manager Larry offered right then and there to rotate the tires but it would have taken 20 mins and by this time I needed to be home. I was pleased that he didn’t argue, and just tried to resolve the issue right then and there. I had to come back on my lunch the next day to get this done, which was inconvenient, though. While this isn’t. A huge deal, for me this calls into question the integrity of the workers here. I thought that this might have happened before on a previous oil change, but I thought maybe I was wrong. Seeing it happen again makes me feel this isn’t just an accident, it’s how business is conducted. If they cutting corners here, where else are they doing it? I won’t be using them again.Edit: reducing this to 1 star now. Didn’t know this until doing a little research but my tires are non-directional which, according to pepboys own website, should be rotated from driver side front to passenger side rear. Pepboys just rotated the tire straight back to driver side rear. Not sure if this is just ineptitude, laziness, or spite... but yeah not coming back.
Wanted to buy 4 tires however the gentleman told me one thing so I ask for a print out so I could see exactly what I would be getting for the money. Then changed his mind you cant have those tires. Daughter made appointment for oil change. Tire rotation was to be done and included in oil change price. I had my daughter mark tires before going and tires still in same place and not rotated after oil change. She want back the next day to have rotation done and they gave her the run around. I would avoid this place as apparently they skirt around doing this maintenance issue and hope you don’t notice. Total BS! I WOULD AVOID THIS PLACE!!
It is generous of them that I can bring my car for an emergent repair at the late evening. But I just wish the price was not so high. Although I appreciate they changed my tire around 8pm, I just didnt care for the replaced tire, since it was very leaky and I had to fix that separately...

Ive always gotten the right part the first time I mean its possible that I could sometime in the future get the wrong part but so far Ive never had to make a special trip back up to exchange a part which I believe is a big plus when you try to do something for yourself I like the people there theyre always friendly and they always try to get to you as fast as possible
A potential buyer took my car to this place for inspection. The car was returned in a condition that is worse than before. Car makes a sound from the front while driving. They probably messed with some part that they recommended the buyer to replace. Would avoid this place at any cost in the future
Best oil change for the money
I came in because I had a tire with a slow leak and another with a TPMS sensor problem. Everyone I talked too was as nice as could be, and service was very quick.
Pep Boys is a great place for carports and accessories. They also have great prompt service. Had to return an item that didnt work and but I forgot my receipt. They were able to look it up under my phone number and gave me the refund. I recommend this for all.
Called and made an appointment for 1:30 and came in at that time to be told quickest they could get to me is 4:30. He responded with “well we got busy.” What was the point of scheduling an appointment then? Terrible will never be back.
Ridiculously unprofessional and terrible customer service
I took my car in for an oil change on 3/11, and then on 3/19 my car started rattling when I was accelerating. When I stopped, my oil light came on and when I checked, the dipstick was completely dry. I called, and the manager, which is who performed my oil change, asked me when I could get it to him. I said I could be there the next evening as I work 2 jobs and couldnt make it that day. When I get there, the manager isnt there and the kid working asked if I wanted to leave my car overnight or bring it back the next day, neither of which I could do because I have 1 car and work. After getting stern with him, he checked it out. Come to find out, the managed put the filter on incorrectly and it broke while I was driving. They fixed the issue, but when asked about a refund I was told I would have to come back when the manager was there. I should be refunded the price of the oil change, and reimbursed the $60 Ive spent replacing oil over the past 2 days. I will also be having a mechanic check my car out to make sure no long term damage was made. Be careful going here, could cause a lot of extra, unexpected problems.
I called Pep boys and the store manager picked up and I asked him if they had availabity for today? He said when can you bring it in I said now and was at the store in 20 minutes. Sadly the store manager didnt fully comprehend capacity and the store did not have the capacity to work on my car that day. Thus, after talking with the guy who actually works in the shop he said bring it back tonight and leave the keys and we will look at it first thing in the morning at 7:30AM when we open. He also informed me he would call me no later than 9:00AM with an estimate. I told them I needed front and rear brakes with front and rear rotors..... Finally at 10:30AM I go into the store to check on the status of my car. Yet again I talk with who I presume is the store manager because they have the same name. He is unable to give me a time or price estimate. Finally I get a call 5 hours and twenty minutes of them looking at my vehicle to only tell me I needed my front and rear brakes done along with my rotors done. At this point I fully comprehended I needed to get my car and take it elsewhere if I wanted to get work done on it in a timely manner. I would NOT recommend this location due to their lack of urgency and customer service
The last two times Ive been in there people seem to unfriendly. The guy at the service counter was pretty unpleasant and didnt want to go beyond the Yes or No answer. A smile or a hello, how are you today goes a long way. Prices are pretty high here too. Dont get me wrong, they have a bunch of stuff on hand there, which is great but usually can definitely get better deals if you shop around.

Dropped my car off for an oil change. Asked for the Managers special which was $29.99. Left and got a call later saying it was done, but it would be $75 instead of the $30 because my car required synthetic oil. I didnt care that I did not qualify for the special, it was no one called and told me anything before the work was done. What if I didnt have the money? A courtesy call letting me know beforehand would have been nice. Also, I requested my washer fluid be filled. I was told it was part of their service. Go out to my car and it was dry. I walk in and without saying a word, he knew why I was in there and told me to pull around. All of my dealings were with Larry the Manager. Hope the $45 was worth a returning customer that will not return again.
Ordered a part online to pickup in the store to save time. I get there 2 hours later and the clerk was on his phone surfing and had not bothered to have my item ready. He spent 10 minutes looking for the item and then said I guess we don’t have it although inventory said they do. I went there because they were cheaper than O’Reilly’s but it was a big waste of time - ended up getting it at O’Reilly’s after all. Disappointed and a sheer waste of time.
Overall a poor experience. Attempted to get a tow hitch installed over the span of three days and was left with we dont know when well get the part in again so we cant really help. Multiple trips there and an hour after I dropped the car off each time Id get a call saying that there was a problem with the part or that they didnt have staff to put it on. On a positive note the customer service was great in person, on the phone however I had a guy who was extremely rude and inconsiderate.Went to Nissan dealership in town and they measured me for the part and ordered it for me within a day and put it on so in the end Im sorted out, just wont be visiting this location again any time in the near future.
I purchased 60,000 mile tires there. Took my 60,000 mile tires in at 20,000 to rotate. They wouldn’t rotate. Said the tires would need replaced soon. But they did offer to sell me new tires...
I brought my car in because it was making a strange noise. They refused to even look at it because it is a Mercedes. I had brought it here before and they had worked on it then, so this was really upsetting. We have been bringing both of our cars here for the past 3 years and now I will not be returning. I understand that Mercedes are difficult, but they wouldnt even look. So I took it to micro motors and they fixed it for me. It was a simple fix, I just needed power steering fluid topped off. Maybe I am wrong, but it seems like something they probably could have done. They were rude and when I asked where I could take it in town they insisted I could only take it to a Mercedes dealership so I would have to drive all the way to Indianapolis. The customer service there is bad. End of story.
I hope, never again. Went in for a battery test. Clerk short on the phone. Required to schedule. Okay, I schedule. Pleasant clerk in the morning. Bring my car in for test. I ask about testing starter and alternator. $15. Ill hold off till results. Calls, says battery is fine. Would I like to go further? Starter/alternator is now $15.99. I guess Im done. HANGS UP ON ME WITH NOT ANOTHER WORD. Calls back, were done with your car. All polite. I come back and get the keys, polite. Get in my car, COMPLETELY DEAD BATTERY. Thanks.

The customer service and management (Larry, in particular) is TERRIBLE! What an embarrassment to your company! Never going back or recommending this business! That’s aside from the lies they gave me regarding my vehicle.
I have to lower my review to 1 star.I made an appointment through the web for last Saturday. When I got there, the guy said he had tried to call me to tell me that there was no mechanic on duty at my appointment time and that I would have to reschedule. I never received a call, voicemail, text or anything, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and moved on. He was kind enough to schedule another appointment for me for today. I arrived 5 minutes before my appointment time and the guy (different guy) tells me that I am not on the schedule. I told him the situation. He didnt care. I could wait until he could work me in - probably a couple of hours (his words) or schedule another time. Forget it. Bad customer service experience all around. No more Pep Boys for me.
Always happy to go here. My husband brings his car to Pep Boys for brakes, tires, oil changes, etc.. they always treat him great and have him in and out really fast.
Only stocked one gallon of diesel oil. It takes 3 to do an oil change. They said buy the one, come back in a week and get another when its restocked, and another week to get the 3rd one needed...
Got a fantastic deal on 4 tires! Nobody in town could even come close. Service was top notch and installation was fast.
Highest labor rates in Bloomington and some of the worst service. May be fine for a simple oil or tire change but DO NOT let them touch anything else on your car. Charged me way more than it should have been and they ended up leaving my car in worse condition than I brought it to them in.

Three strikes and youre out. Ive had three separate, terrible experiences with this place so Im just done.Trip 1: Arrived at 8:30am for my oil change which was guaranteed to be done within a half hour - I didnt get my car back until 3pm. They said they were busier than usual which I would have bought EXCEPT for the fact that I was the second appointment of the morning and they started on my car a freaking half hour after they opened.Trip 2: I went back for an oil change and to have my coolant topped off. This time they were done within an hour. Later that day, while driving, I noticed my coolant light going off. I pulled over to investigate and found that they had left the cap open to the coolant tank. They also failed to reset my oil light on my dash (which I specifically asked for). I took it to the Quick Lube down the street from me the next day and found they had also failed to change my oil filter, a service I paid extra for. I called the store twice to speak to a manager, each time there was none available and though I was promised a call back this of course never happened.Trip 3: I was getting ready for a long business trip and wanted my oil changed before I left. I booked an appointment at 6pm on Friday so I could have it done after work and before I left that weekend. I even called to make sure they took appointments that light (I booked online). I received a text and email confirming my appointment. To my surprise, at 4pm on Friday I got a call from the store saying they were booked up. I called, reiterated that I had an appointment, and was advised that they wouldnt be able to get me in until Monday.Complete and utter joke of a business. This place needs to go under, give your money and patronage to an auto place that deserves it.
Took my car in on Saturday to get tires put on. They ended up breaking a piece and told me they had to order it. Now it’s Thursday and they cant seem to find the piece with FedEx. They also tried to charge me for this piece that THEY broke and gave me attitude when I told them that wasn’t fair. Honestly awful service, and super expensive. Should’ve taken them an hour and now it’s almost been a whole week. Never going back.
Took a loose wheel for a new tire while getting two new tires on my car. Chris was very patient explaining my options for all three tires and delivered great service.Professional from start to finish.
Their online service said they had several appointment slots available. When I got there to request a tire repair and oil change he said they cant help me. I verified with the website, and they still had slots available. I took my business and money elsewhere.

Got a full synthetic oil change with oil filter replacement for my 2014 Chevy Spark in about an hour & thirty min. Lots of places to shop in walking distance to pass the time. Employees at pep boys were courteous & helpful.
Got a flat tire and long story short it turned into a nightmare when I stripped a lug nut. Had it towed to pepboys and they told me the would get to it in 3-4 hours. I went to grab lunch and as I was walking back when I got a call saying they had gotten to it early and replaced the tire. Fast service, friendly staff, good at what they do, and a reasonable price. If you arent looking for those characteristics I suggest you go elsewhere.

Called and made an appointment for 8:45am and was told it would take a couple hours to diagnose the problem with my truck. Dropped it off at 8:45am and left. Had not heard back by 12:30pm so I called. I was told that they have been busy all morning and are about to look at it. That is some bullshit. Went into the store in person an hour and a half later, and was told they are just now looking at it. Since then it has been two hours and I have not heard a word from the store. Slowest repair service and one of the worst customer services in Bloomington. I DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYBODY LOOKING FOR GOOD MECHANICS.

I was told they would be able to bolt on a hitch and install 8AM on Saturday. When I went in, they said we cant do this truck because it requires drilling. I had informed them that I knew the class III from Reese did not direct bolt but still was told theirs would. Very disappointed I was told one thing over the phone and showed up early on Saturday to be told differently. Take your tow package needs to Alexanders in Bloomington. They are more knowledgeable and will do the right thing.
3 times I had to take my girlfriends car in to have an alignment. They completely blew off my 11 am appointment and rescheduled at me 4 pm as a way of correcting the problem even though I had plans. The manager rob didnt even have the guts to call me to reschedule. The area Mgr at least called me right away after a different store gave me his email address. Im going back 1 more time just because Im getting the last 2 tires I need at cost and I dont care what they think about it.
Had an appointment to check heating Pawn them and Alignment, get Toad the Master Mechanic wasnt available and his assistant would look at my heating problem. Assistant did not find anything. I did not know how to look for it. Alignment was lifetime warranty and was done but was told there was other problems with my car. Cashier did not charge me for the cooking at the heater.

A little frustrated and confused that they wouldnt give us a price ahead of time for an oil change. So we left without it.
Terrible experience. Replaced alternator in BMW. They couldnt reset the electronics and the voltage regulator on the new install was bad. Two billing mistakes: charged for new battery and refunded because they didnt install the battery. It all worked out in the end but I had to fight for it. And their mistakes cost me a trip to Indy and a second alternator. Never again.

I made an appointment to drop my car off at 8 am to get the brakes looked at. They told me theyd get it right in. I call back hours later to find out what the status was on my car, and it still hadnt been looked at! Fast forward two hours later when I called again theyd just gotten it in the garage! This was at 2:30! Glad I planned a whole Saturday to get my car fixed!
My car was overheating really bad driving from Indianapolis to Bloomington. I got it to Pep Boys and they ran radiator diagnostics (estimate around $40). Turns out, I had some blown head gaskets. My uncle offered to help pay for things if I towed it to his friends shop. Pep Boys not only let my car stay at their shop for three days while I was out of town, but ended up not charging me for the diagnostics.The entire team was friendly, helpful, and informative. When I asked questions about the problems, they took me out to my car and showed me what exactly they were doing. I was frustrated and upset, but their mechanics and office manager Javier were absolutely fantastic people.
More of a selection than other auto parts stores. The gentleman who cashed me out was informed and helped me sign up for their rewards card. I will be going back.
Went in to get an oil change in my IU students car, and was told $32, while walking around the store my phone rings, and I was told that there is an up charge to $50.12. I had refused all upgrades to the package, so I asked the rep on the phone to explain the increase in price. I was told the oil filter cost $10 not $3 ($3 is cheap for an oil filter) and that 2 quarts of oil cost $10.00 (which is expensive for bulk oil). I showed up an hour later, which is how long it would take, the car was not done. So I sat down and texted for the survey. I guess some one saw me read the poster and text to the number, amazingly my car was done 5 minutes later (hour and a half total), and the bill was reduced to $37 and change. Surprised me that the price was reduced, it turns out they took out the price of the oil filter built into the price and reduced the price of the bulk oil.Thanks to the poster I was saved from over inflated pricing.
If I could give a worse star review I would. I will start with saying that I have a 20 service vehicle fleet. I was made several assurances when a Pep boys district manager came asking for our business. Nearly every time there is a problem, either they cant fix the issue or they say they fixed it and the vehicle is ready for pickup just to find out that several dash indicators are lit up and the vehicle is virtually unsafe to drive. I have left clear instructions not to repair anything until an estimate is provided to me either by phone or in person....that never happens, they just throw whatever they want at it and expect payment. When I call for a manager he is always gone and the people behind the counter just say how they are not the manager and that my concerns are the managers job. I tried to call the corporate line to get the phone number for who ever is in charge of the stores in my area and was bounced from one dept to another all stating that they didnt have that information and could transfer me. Ridiculous!!

Had my car towed in because it wouldnt start. I was called a few hours later and told that they knew what the problem is but they didnt have the tools or part to fix it and that I would have to take it to the dealership. They also told me that it started for them. It still wouldnt start. I was charged $142 for them to tell me that they could NOT fix my car. Thats how much I would expect to pay if they actually FIXED my car. We complained to the manager and asked who his supervisor was and he said that he IS the supervisor. Horrible experience to say the least. Last time I ever use pep boys for parts OR service.
They usually have the parts you need,but to me the staff almost always seems unenthusiastic about their jobs at the counter. Use the service department for friendlier service.
