We had an excellent visit except when leaving the girl closing the museum was rude. As we were leaving the museum (through the gift shop). She told us ‘I’m locking up now’. It was uncomfortable - I tried to explain that we weren’t trying to enter the museum and that we were leaving after viewing. There’s also a cafe here. I ordered some yummy fries and my partner ordered chili fries. If it weren’t for the rude service when we were exiting I would definitely recommend visiting this place if you have an hour so spare. Also if you’re from out of state you get a free instant potato packet. If you have AAA or military ID they offer a small discount on admission.
Okay dude straight up this museum was awesome! I never knew how important potatoes were to every day life until I came here for a visit and man let me tell you it was definitely worth the stop. They have alot of information on the Is process of farming potatoes but they do it in the most creative ways. It wasnt boring or stale at all my wife and I had a great time. From videos on how to make science fair projects out of potato chips to the worlds biggest potato crisp to the singing potato family that lives under the museum (Im not kidding) this place was so enjoyable and entertaining. Id come back forsure and if youre anywhere near Blackfoot you should pay them a visit! Also try the potato ice cream!!!! It was top notch!
This place is SICK!! A really well done museum! So much to see and they even had virtual reality AND a cinema! I bought a lot of great potato merchandise and was really impressed by all the fun potato facts and information. The woman at the front desk was also really nice and gave us complimentary mashed potatoes! I WILL BE BACK.
4:30pm. Drove in from Yellowstone, after months of rave reviews from our coworkers, friends, and guests. My friend was so excited for these potatoes. And then. Disaster struck. Closed, half an hour early. My friend was devastated. We asked at the gift shop next door and learned that our worst fears had come to life. (the gift shop lady was nice tho). The Potato Station Cafe was closed early, and would also not be open the next day, as it was Sunday, and they don’t serve potatoes on the Lords day. She began to cry. We are devastated by the lack of potatoes to be had in Blackfoot Idaho, on a Saturday, at 4:30pm.
Fun little stop if you are in the area. They have a VR thing where you can see what its like to be a potato farmer, a Potato Head toy exhibit where you can put together a Mr. or Ms. Potato Head, some tractors, info about potato farming, and more. Dont skip the Cafe! The have baked potatoes, potato soup, fries, and potato bread! Plus, you can get some huckleberry ice cream. I loved the potato soup and bread. Very tasty! I think it wad $6 per adult to get in.
On the way home. We had to stop at our nations finest establishment dedicated to our favorite starchy vegetable. The Idaho Potato Museum. I was able to learn about the potato’s origins and eventual rise to power. Pictured here are early tools used to harvest potatoes, potato fashion, cooking methods, evolutions of the potato harvest, different species of potatoes, Mr. Potato Head, the worlds largest (at the time) potato chip, and even potato VR. We ended the day with some fries and they tasted like fries. The staff was friendly and were tater tasting. I’m am proud to have visited this spudtacular piece of potato history. This is a must visit for anyone who has eaten a potato. If you don’t like potatoes, you will after you visit here.
Worth the stop. Who knew television had its “roots” originally inspired by a 14 year old kid working on his uncles potato farm! The cafe attached serves made everyday fresh cut Idaho fries, baked potatoes, potato ice cream. We had each of these and it was delicious. Be prepared to wait 5 to 10 min for your made to order but well worth your patience.
This museum was very nice. It is quite a small museum however, it was also cheap at $6. They had videos which showed how fries are developed but backwards. The small restaurant they had offered a few itmes which contained potatoes such as Potato Ice Cream. The list they had was small compared however it wouldve been nice if they had a larger variety of items which contained potatoes. Nevertheless, it was a good experience and enlightening to attend.
My family loved it. We actually spent quite a bit of time there. It is a small museum but my older ones liked the VR glasses and the computer video game. My four year old liked making her own potato head and my 8 year old liked racing them. We ate baked potatoes, potato ice cream, and Reeds chocolate milk at the Station cafe which is attached. What such a fun time learning and looking at everything potato.
Great fun for a quick stop. The cafes baked potatoes and french fries are really fresh. It was a lot of fun. Where else would you see a potato family sign to you from the basement.
Great information as far as history of potatoes is concerned but disappointed with restaurant.. we can get fries and stuffed potatoes much more testier outside.. found little overrated but can be visited once..
The Potato Museum is rather dull. I was expecting a lot more for the money we paid to get in. Its ok, but definitely nothing to brag about. They do have a pretty good gift shop.
So much fun and so cute. The gift shop has lots of shirts and potato/Idaho themed thing. The workers are very nice.
Everything you need to know about patatoes are inside! The potato family was funny. The cafe has a lot of potato options.
Visited here on a family vacation and really enjoyed the displays and the cafe. My hats off to the two teenagers who were swamped at lunchtime and still managed to get the food cooked and to our table. Be sure to watch the singing potatoes in the cellar and try the VR goggles.
Fun stop! Worthy of your time!Potato ice cream 🍦 Muh.Papa Dan
A fun museum in Idaho. Its a quick stop, but very interesting.
Pretty nice place. Alot of history.
Pretty cool little side trip. There is more to the humble potato than you know... Potato bar closed at three, so we missed our chance. Plan ahead!
Had a great time learning about the potato! And there was more to this museum than just potatoes!
Interesting history about potatoes. Baked potato bar was good. Be aware it has to ordered two hours before you arrive. Liked it.
We stopped by for merch and pics, but didnt go through the museum. Felt a little overpriced for our taste, but you do you. Great place for photo op and they had some cool merch. Disappointed we couldnt buy potatoes...
A great little museum. Lots of pictures and facts about the history of potatoes and how they are grown. The little cafe at the end is great too, with a potato bar and even potato ice cream!
We werent expecting to much from such a small museum but we ended up spending 3 hours there. It was lots of fun and very informative! Well worth the visit.
Great little musuem with a variety of fun and informative displays on the history of potatoes, potato cultivation and other fun potato facts. Small, hands on area for kids. Great gift shop. My family spent a little under 2 hours exploring. The cafe was closed when we visited, but the cashier in the gift shop was able to get us cups of potato ice cream. We especially liked the Eagle Scout project out front that held your phone for pictures with the giant baked potato. They had some interesting flow charts on potato production, but they were not labeled well and hard to follow.
Cool little place. Saw it driving by so I stopped in. The little diner was reasonably priced and the food was good. I would not go out of my way to see it. But it is right off the highway. Nice staff too.
Fun museum!!! Coming from California with lots of big attractions, this is definitely a place I stop by again. Interesting information about the potato state, interactive VR games, and the staff were super friendly. Sadly didn’t get to try the cafe but it smelled so good, definitely stopping by again.
A quirky museum made for tourist as we all know Idaho for its potato. Only $3 to visit the museum itself and its really really small. The gift shop has all potato gifts and the cafe has you guessed it potato Fare. The baked potato was surprisingly good. You can honestly visit this within 45 min max if you are pushing it.Also the sign with the large potato out front and a little device to take pictures which is AWESOME!
When in Idaho, how do you not stop in at the Potato Museum? Cleverly done, interesting and amusing tongue in cheek look at Idahos state crop. Well worth the visit, doesnt cost much or take up too much time, great rest stop.
Admission is $6 or less and the museum is more informative than youd think. The cafe is potato-themed and reasonable
The people/staff were very friendly and helpful. The potato 🥔 ice cream 🍦 was great. The deep fries 🍟 machine was out of order 😒. There bake people was cold. Overall, nice stop to visit.
I honestly had low expectations, so perhaps that contributed to my enjoyment of this packed little museum full of potato trivia. Lots to read and goofy entertaining touches, like the talking potatoes in the cellar.
It appears that potatoes are the basis for all modern-day technology and civilization. This museum documents it thoroughly.
Really excellent stop while passing through Idaho. I big expectations and they were met! There’s a wealth of information about potatoes, the history, and every aspect you can think of that somehow relates to these delicious tubers. The cafe was nice, but my French fries could have used a few more minutes in the fryer. 10/10 would go again. Don’t miss this excellent stop. Also, the staff were extremely diligent about COVID.
Short but sweet, the kids loved it, and the cafe attached to it has some quality food!
Definitely the kitschy tourist spot youd expect. The large baked potato out front is awesome for photos.
Built from an old train depot, the Potato Museum is a fun, quick visit, to learn about potatos and its historic importance to ID and world wide. Also, get a fresh baked potato or fresh french fries in the cafe!
Great little museum! Fun and educational at the same time. Tasty potato bar at the Cafe. Lots of cute souvenirs to be had at the store. Nice people and worth the trip!
Interesting history of the potato. Got to see the Worlds Largest Potato Chip 😁 also had some potato ice cream!
So much information! Learning about harvesting potatoes was so helpful before I traveled the country roads and actually seen the farmers working the fields. Plus there is a cafe where you can eat baked Idaho potatoes.
Great place to learn a unique part of Idaho (and the worlds) history. Also has fantastic artifacts/items to see.
Lovely place to stop well worth the short detour. After walking through the museum ($5.50 fee), stop by the kitchen and get some really delicious and interesting food.Potato Ice Cream anyone? It was really good... And you eat it with a potato starch spoon!
Fun spot to bring kids. Learn all about Potatoes including some interactive displays, movies, etc...Also a gift shop and snack bar with all kinds of potato related snacks including potato ice cream.
Great place to learn about potatoes of all types. Fun potato foods/snacks. AND a penny squishing machine!
Unique GROUP stop with a neat museum where space was well utilized. Fun gift shop. We had prearranged box lunches with potato featured items and it was good. Thanks for hosting groups well!
Lots of fun, interesting factoids about potatoes and a potato bar. Yum.
Get a baked potato! It was so smooth and creamy. All the workers were sweet and helpful. I really appreciate the camera stand Infront if the huge potato outside to help get the perfect photo for our trip! The gift shop was fun and oh dont forget potato ice cream!!! 🥔🍦🥔🍦🥔🍦
Definitely worth the visit if you are close. Especially good for kids, super to know about their food. There is even a virtual reality tractor ride. Its also a good visit for adults. Enjoy patato ice cream and extremely creamy milk with patato flakes. Take it for what is and ENJOY.
Nice little museum. The gentleman in the gift shop is sweet. Purchased t-shirts for my godchildren and the bag is a potato sac! Fun story about Marilyn Monroe too!
I actually really enjoyed this. It is rather small, but Im not sure what more there would be to say about a potato. Very educational. They had stuff that would be interesting to all ages. The potato cafe had all sorts of offerings. Potato ice cream anyone? Was actually pretty good. I really appreciated the gift shop- all purchases are placed into a mesh potatoes produce bag! Plenty of on-site parking, very easy to get to. They give a AAA discount.
Fun place for a stop. Although you have to pay if you actually want to access the museum (which is, by the way, pretty small...), you can go to the store and bar/cafeteria for free and buy gift/have something to eat drink. They have as expected potato-based stuff that is quite tasty. Check also the auto-selfie device in front of the sign outside, it was quite fun using it!
Wow what a cute little museum. This was on my list of places to stop at while staying in town for my half marathon race and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. It was cute, educational and everything this potato loving girl could want. The Cafe at the end was definitely worth eating at. Let me tell you, Sally makes the best potato soup in the entire world!! For someone that loves potatoes, her soup has by far beat all the restaurants I have ever tried (black angus, longhorn etc). She was super nice and put a lot of love into her soup. The fries were also fresh tasting and the perfect balance of crunchy and soft. If you are ever in town or pass by..make a stop here and enjoy Sallys potato soup.. you wont regret it
Didn’t make it in time for the cafe but was super educational. Get the potato ice cream!!!!
Well organized, and well kept little museum. It feels bigger on the inside with so much information in there.
Something fun to do as you road trip. The cafe serves the best food, all potatoes of course. A quick fun tour on potatoes and worth the admission price. The best photo with the giant potatoes with camera stand for your photo timer.
A museum dedicated to POTATOES. My favorite vegetable and favorite museum! Great that we stopped here on our way to West Yellowstone and learned so much about potatoes!
I was a bit disappointed but, maybe I had my hopes too high. The staff are really nice folk. They also have a penny roller with 4 prints.
Initially, I was upset about the admission price; having no idea what I was getting into... But paid it anyways because you HAVE to stop at the potato museum when travelling through Idaho. Potatoes are kind of their thing. This was a road trip highlight for sure; so unexpected and kitsch-y that you cannot help but love it.A nice break from the road.
Just loved this museum. Didnt know what to expect. Yet loved everything we saw.
It was so much fun, you have to try the potato ice cream. We will be back
Cute, quick stop. The cafe is open to the public without having to go into the museum. We got the french fries just to say we ate Idaho potatoes in Idaho! They also had many other potato items to try. Nice stop in a cute, old town.
Way better then we expected. Lots of really interesting info and very well presented. One of those roadside oddities that should not be missed.
Absolutely loved this place! It was super fun.
Very interesting. Loved the McDonalds French fry video. Great gift shop and loved the potatoes in the Cafe. Enjoyed my visit and look forward to bringing friends next time I am in town
What a fun little museum! Cool info about the history of potatoes in the world and in Idaho specifically. They even have virtual reality goggles! Definitely 5 stars. And the fries were delicious!!
This place was great! Even grave you free spuds on the way out! Came here right after Yellowstone! Amazing history!
Tour? Not-so-much......Loaded potato and a ginger-beer? Absolutely!!!! Food was fair priced and really good. Here is a picture of some pico de gallo i made the other day....It doesnt have anything to do with the potato museum.
Really fun and informative. There is a cute gift shop and a Cafe serving all things potatoes. Order online ahead of time to enjoy a fluffy baked potato with all the fixings. Save roo. For the potato ice cream.
We had a good time learning about the history of potatoes. The children had a great time too with the interactive things that the museum offers. The museum cafe is a nice place to end the experience. They offer, homemade fries, a baked potato and potato ice cream. I will definitely go again.
Was more impressed than I thought I would be, the museum ticket was worth it as there was LOTS of info about potatoes. We had called ahead (like they advise too on their website) and the potatoes were ready after we were done with the museum. The staff was exceptional. The potatoes were SO yummy.
Good stop. Friendly staff and good history of potato farming. A little small, but a good experience overall.
This is exactly what you expect. A monument to potatoes, sure, but really a vital piece of roadside Americana. Make your pilgrimage. Worship the tater.
Great place to learn of the history of where potatoes are originally from and how the got to the USA and how they are working on getting them to grow on Mars like in the Martian movie.
This is a fun little place to visit. Loved the potato cafe. Good place if you like potatoes.
Pretty boring but hey its potatoes. The kids enjoyed it because they love quirky small town museums/shops. The french fries in the attached cafe were tasty. Could you imagine if they sucked? At the potato Museum? Anywho, a funky little stop if youre into that sort of thing.
It was fun. Learned a lot. Nice gift shop. Visit the candy jar across the street to.
This was one of those unusual touristy things....and in a smaller town, away from the city. But also very informative and admission is reasonable. Just knew I wanted to see and learn about something Idaho is famous for.....🥔🥔🥔 potatoes!
Did not go into the museum but tried the potato ice cream and it was pretty good. Good photo op on front yard too
The Idaho Potato Museum is the perfect combination of light hearted and informative. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and quantity of the exhibits. Dont forget to stop in the cafe for a baked potato. Its inexpensive and delicious. Oh, they also send you on your way with freeze dried hash browns!
Little quaint museum with a lot of meat information. Good food too, baked potatoes are like $2.00
This place is stupendous! The history of the common potato is presented wonderfully! Really a place to support and give a short visit.
Went there with 4 of my grandkids and my son and daughter in law. We all had such fun from oldest to youngest.
